Walking into Nielsen's is like taking a step back in time. No self serve fro-yo here or flashy bright colors. But don't let the monochromatic decor fool you because the frozen custard is incredible. Today we opted for a regular sized "Tin Roof" which was a vanilla based custard with chocolate and peanuts mixed in. It good have fed a small village but we didn't dare let it go to waste. It was light, creamy, smooth and subtly sweet. I haven't actually gotten anything other than the frozen custard here so I can't speak to that but come on if you're in the neighborhood and looking for dessert. They have plenty of seating, a drive through and have a walk up window in case you really want to be old school. Yes it's true they only take cash or check so come prepared.

First time in Utah, and honestly... if you asked me what was the highlight of the trip was, I would say, "Great custard." We were overwhelmed by the selection, but I would say it was mainly because we didn't know what to expect. We didn't know what we could and couldn't order. If you're in a hurry, you can take the drive thru. There are concrete selections, and there are just plain selections (vanilla, chocolate, etc). They don't take credit cards, but that's fine. On a hot summer day, a cool creamy custard is just the right quick dessert fix that you need.

Their concretes are as close to heaven as many of us will get. ;) They don't accept debit/credit cards which has been frustrating to me, but the food, service, and custard makes up for it. Just be prepared to pay with cash!

If you haven't been to Nielsen's and live anywhere in Davis or Salt Lake county, then shame on you! Frozen Custard is NOT ice cream, it is a 1000x better, thicker, and creamier! An added bonus is their burgers and grilled ham & cheese are also delicious. AND this is one of the few places you can still get an Ironport - a classic fountain soda.

Everything is great about this place except for the fact that they don't take cards. Only checks and cash. It is 2015. Come on guys!
