I'm a bit picky when it comes to phillies. Now I don't know what makes a good one and what doesn't. But I know what I like and what I don't like. I got the #8 and it comes with mushrooms. Dustin D. got the Po' Fred and it comes with Italian Sausage and we were both happy. I wish the whiz didn't cost $1.50, I probably wouldn't get it again for that reason alone regardless of how amazing it made my sandwich. Toothpicks were good. (Fried onion and jalapeno straws.) Fries were okay, might add the cajun seasoning next time. Make sure you grab some hot sauce, I hear they make it in house and it is awesome. Oh and the bread is perfect. Texadelphia is a joke compared to this place. And it's better than Charley's and Donny's in Arlington. Fred for the MF'ing win. Will I come back? Every time Dustin D. has a hankering now, this is where we'll be.

Okay, I'll admit it; I avoided this place for the longest time because I was thinking to myself that the sandwiches weren't going to be that good. I don't even mean that in a snobby "This isn't the REAL philly cheesesteak" kind of douchery, I just mean every time I drove by it didn't seem to be that busy. But the reviews convinced me to try it, especially since they have fried pickles. And then I realized something. Every time I drove by it was around 8 at night and that's when they closed...Durr I ordered the #2 with cheese whiz and some fried pickles. It was during lunch hour and the place was packed! It actually reminded me of a lot of old Chicago eateries where the line is out the door, you order and then kinda just stand on top of each other waiting for your order number to called out like Food Bingo or something. The guy next to me seriously looked like he was going to cry if his number wasn't going to be called soon. I almost (ALMOST) offered him a pickle. Just one. The sandwich was not only a great value (9 bucks for my whole meal) but it was so good. The meat was tender, as was the bread. Even though I waited a good 25 mins (boy, they really do go in sequential order, huh?) it was well worth the wait. I appreciated how you can get your own hot sauce and the napkins on the tables so you don't have to get up. They also had a sign I liked that I was going to photograph (but was afraid of getting pummeled by hungry patrons) that said, "No Microwaves or Heat Lamps Here, All Fresh" or something of the sort. Now give me more aerosol canned cheese whiz on my sammy and fried pickles dipped in store bought ranch!

Cheesesteaks are my favorite food and I think I found my new favorite place to get them! I got a cheesesteak that came with jalapenos, mushrooms and onions. The jalapenos gave it a nice kick. It wasn't the best cheesesteak I've had but it was definitely GOOD. And their fries are amazing as well! Very filling. Come here now!

This place is so good and amount of food you get for your money is great. They are not cheap at all. Definitely will come again

Hands down, the BEST Cheesesteaks I've had since moving to Dallas from Chicago. Go with the large double meat & double cheese (provolone) Yep, they are busy at lunch, and yes you will wait in line...(they cook to order) but it's worth the wait for the piping hot, meaty cheesy wonderful sandwich that comes through the window. I'm hooked!

Ordered the shrimp po boy w fries...both were hot & satisfying!! The stores AC may be out (not sure if that is intentional to prevent orders to be eaten there) but I'll be back regardless. Staff is pretty nice!

This is my first trip to Fred's and it was ok. The irony is I lived in Plano when the first one of these was open years ago. Maybe it was just this location but I was unimpressed I'd much rather go fo a good hamburger, bbq sammie or burrito. I may eventually try one of the locations out by me in Plano/Allen but not gonna break my neck getting there.

Best Philly cheesesteak in Dallas. Been going there since Fred came to Dallas. There is no equal unless you go to Philadelphia PA. And that's a fact so try it out. They have lots of variety, but if you want the real thing the original is the one. If you haven't been there, your square.

  • B F.

I got the #2 with cheese whiz. I felt that they could have put a little more meat on it, but other than that it was really good and the bread held up without getting soggy. Give them a try!

  • Kacie M.

Dont expect anything fancy or nice when you walk in BUT the food is delicious! !!! We had a 21, 4, 6 and mushrooms burger with fries and onion straws. Everything was loaded, full of flavor and soft bread! This is the place for some real cheesesteaks!

  • Stephanie H.

The Philly cheesesteaks are really good. My sisters fiancé is from Philadelphia and he says he likes the Philly cheesesteaks from here. This is the best place to get a Philly cheesesteak because it's really good.

Store Hours: Mon-Sat 11:00-8:00 Sun closed We drive from east Dallas just to get a cheesesteak! Great philly cheese steaks. Always hot , delicious and made to order. They never disappoint. Full of flavor! my new favorite cheesesteak place. I've tried the pizza steak and its delicious, just wish they had pepperoni to add. My fav is the small philly cheese steak with wiz and fried onions, you can't go wrong with that. Staff is always friendly. Please fix women's restroom light fixture. Its been burned out for months. We will be back soon!

This was one of those sandwiches that made me want to gorge myself! I was out this way and hadn't eaten all day so of course I break out Yelp and find this gem! I walked into the empty restaurant, which usually worries me, but OMG the smell that hit me was heavenly! I felt like the cartoons that rise up and float toward the delicious smell of food as the scent taunts. A nice gentleman appeared behind the counter and helped me decide what I was going to get. I almost got the #2 and then he suggested banana peppers, so I went with the #6 with sautéed banana peppers. I had never had them like that and it was ridiculous good! I tried the house hot sauce. It's good but the sandwich didn't need a thing. I will definitely be back next time I'm over here. They have a fan in me! (Sorry Texadelphia)

As a Cowboys fan, I've never had the desire to visit Philly. But, I do love cheesesteaks. I can't say how authentic these cheesesteaks are, but they're GD delicious. I cannot believe how long it's taken me to come eat here. I've tried cheesesteaks at many restaurants and this is by far the best I've had. If you like philly cheesesteaks this is a place you MUST try. Literally everything about it is good tasting....

  • Tyler D.

Never been to Philadelphia, but this was easily the best Philly cheese steak I've ever had. It was hot, flavorful, and the roll was soft and fresh. The fries were really good as well. I also really dig the ambiance, it looks and feels like how a Philly cheese steak restaurant should. It is not overly polished and lacking personality like a lot of the chain places you will visit. I was rude and should have asked for the name of the friendly guy serving me, but I'll at least pay him compliment here... He greeted everyone as they entered, thanked them as they left, and was helpful when I asked for advice on what to order. Nice! I'm new to DFW and I miss all of the Italian beefs I enjoyed while living in Chicago. But, this has filled a beef sandwich void and is so far, one of my favorite restaurants in DFW. I will be coming back again for sure.

Since the Texadelphia in Addison closed, my SO has been searching for a Philly cheese steak place. This hit the spot. The 6" is good for a meal, the 10" is good for two people to share or two separate meals. He had the pepper cheese steak and I had the mushroom. Both were mostly meat and good portions. The place has a hole in the wall feel, with few frills. They have a couple sauces available, but honestly, the meat was flavorful without any modifications. We'll be coming back!

If you worry about calories, diet soda is not going to help. The food here is greasy good.

I'm not halfway through my Rocky Balboa Cheesesteak and I had to write the review so I give myself more time to savor the flavor. This sandwich is like a punch in the face of awesome from Italian Stallion himself. Now it's time for round two, i'm gonna take down the champ this time. Eat here.

Outstanding bread with superior cheesesteak. Nice small sub shop that is sparkling clean. Very fair prices on quality food choices. The only thing lacking is ice cold beer.

Welcome to a world filled of hoagies, and a wide vareity of cheesesteaks. Fred's Downtown Philly is delicious, and in my opinion, the closest we can get to authentic cheesesteaks in Dallas. It's a small mom and pop shop that is extremely popular, so expect to wait to order, get your food, and possibly obtain a table. They have daily specials that come with fries and a drink. This place does not disappoint. I have tired the original, chicken, steak and chicken, steak and mushroom, and pizza varities. You can either get it as a 6 in or a 10 in. For me a 6 in is plenty. Depending on what your order, it may be a tad bit pricey, but it is well worht it.

Alittle taste of Philadelphia in Carrollton tx. I love my sandwhich with their homemade hot sauce. I would probably ask for a different cheese next time instead of the american cheese but I would definitely go back. I could taste it all day!!

THE BEST 10 INCHES YOU WILL EVER PUT IN YOUR MOUTH!! No seriously the shirt says so! Best place to get cheesesteaks! I order the hoagie (think #7) pretty much every time and love it. The fries are good as well, I ask for the ranch and like to dip the fries in that. The decor could use a remodel but hey your coming here to get greasy dirty cheesesteaks not caviar. Writing this review is making me want one right now! The only downside is they are are only open to 8pm and closed on Sunday. You can call and order in advance to have it hot and ready when you arrive and avoid the wait. Freds never disappoints. SOO good!

Very friendly staff. I called in my order and picked it up. Everything was fresh including my hot fresh fries.

Checked this place out about a week ago. What a refreshing change of pace from the ordinary wannabe Philly shops. My only complaint is that it was a tad warm in there but the food more than made up for it. Best fried pickles I've had in a long time too. Well done

  • Wendy W.

This is the best Philly Cheese steak place in Dallas. I used to go to Texadelphia but when I friend from Philly told me about Fred's this is the only place I will get my cheese steak fix! They have other Philly favorites like Utz chips and Hanks root beer. During the week day lunch is busy, so you might want to call it in.

I've seen the place for a long time since I've been in the area around 14 years now. Well I've been missing the experience but now I'm making up for all those years every time a have a chance. Great service, food is delicious forget about the fast food taste this is the real deal mmmmmmm!

After the Texadelphia near my office closed and months without a Philly fix, I decided to give this place a try and was not at all disappointed. Had a cheesesteak with bell peppers and onions. Simple and delicious.

I'm a big cheese steak fan, so when fellow yelper Andrew H. told me about a legit place just a few miles down the road, I immediately bookmarked it to try. I visited during off hours on a Saturday and we pretty much had the place to ourselves, but with the small seating area, it felt just right. The interior decor is just as other reviews have described with tons of Philadelphia posters and signs around, giving it that man-decorated charm. They had quite a few witty adult signs, too, which just added to my new found love. There were only 2 employees working at the time, neither of which was Fred. Nothing special about their service, but this isn't a place you are waited on- they simply took the order and had it out in a reasonable amount of time. The pricing is fair...a little on the higher end at around $7/sandwich, but really what you expect for a good philly. I had the #4 as so many had recommended with a side of those crispy fries and a Hank's root beer to wash it all down. The bread was to die for delicious. Not too greasy or soggy with the perfect texture and flavor to compliment the flavorful meat, sauteed onions, and melty provolone cheese. I'm a bit of an abomination and love to add ranch dressing to philly cheese steaks, and theirs definitely passed the test. I think I'm going to have to come up with some more reasons to visit Carrollton again soon!

  • Britni S.

I had the mushroom cheesesteak and fried pickles! Not as good as Charley's , but it'll work. The food was good and fulfilling for only a 6 inch. It was good. I'd recommend. Might be a new regular spot for my husband and I.

  • Shams B.

I love a good philly cheesesteak, and after my favorite place closed Fred's got bumped up from #2 to #1. I usually frequent the Plano location, but I was closer to the Carrollton location and was pleased with my visit. Hot, greasy, yummy... what more could ask for? One thing I wasn't happy about was I asked for them to add bell peppers, and instead of banana peppers AND bell peppers I got only bell peppers and still got charged. If you're going to do a substitution and charge, then don't omit my original items unless I specifically say so.

Large selection of unique cheesesteak. High quality for low prices. Small place, not much seating, gets crowded for lunch. Overall fantastic sandwiches and quality of meat.

Juicy, flavorful and everything a Philly should be. Plus the homemade hot sauce sets it off perfectly!

  • J J C.

Fred and his staff KNOW how to make a real Philly. Start with thin sliced sirloin - cooked perfectly with onions and peppers and then put on a really good fresh Philly roll. Add some of Fred's house sauce and you'll be smiling after every bite. The daily specials are a good value and the Philly is the best in the Metroplex. Highly recommended!!!

    (5)
  • Corey D.

They have their bread shipped in from abroso bakery in philly! Had the #2 with cheese wiz (traditional Philly cs with onions) add bellpeppers. Nothing fancy here just very good sandwiches! Order at the counter and they bring it out when it's ready.

This is one of the best lunch spots in Carrollton and there's usually a wait so get there early if you're in a rush for your food. Everything is prepared to order and as they advertise - NO MICROWAVES. The food isn't fancy, but it's darn tasty and always hot and fresh. I've tried many of the phillies and they're all great. The fries aren't anything to write home about, but they hold up their end of the deal pretty well. There's a rotating lunch special Monday through Saturday that nets you a sandwich (6 or 10 inches), fries, and a drink for less than ten dollars. The six inch is filling enough, but the 10 will give you a snack later for back at the office. One odd observation, there's always some strange movie playing on the back TV. I've seen more shark movies while eating philly cheesesteak sandwiches than the rest of my life combined.

Truly legit cheesesteak!! Tried this on a suggestion from a friend- they've been in my area over a year now so it has to be decent right? Talk about the nicest service and helpful at the front counter- the guy said if you live this close you'll probably be back at least once a week. And he's right- I'm already planning our next dinner here. Meat and bread sliced and baked in Philly, not sure what the turnaround time is, but it tasted fresh and the bread was out of bounds. Got the regular cheesesteak 6 inch and hubby as well as my dad got the cheesesteak 10 inch. Only a few complaints: 1. Took a really long time to make three sandwiches and a kids nugget with fries. Like 20 mins. 2. The meat on my 6 inch was way less than the amount of meat on my husband and dads. When compared, it wasn't like my sandwich was just shorter- it was like it was 1/4 if the meat they had. 3. The fries were basically frozen and over fried. Like snap in half not even worth stealing one from the kiddo bad. Maybe it was just a bad day or bad oil. We will give it another try. Overall I want to go back and try about 15 of the 20+ other sandwiches on the menu-- cannot wait to go back and try the mushroom, then maybe the pizza, def the ones with peppers..... Yum! Can't wait.

I can't believe this place has been around the corner for years now. The guys are all friendly and answered all the questions this newcomer had. The chicken Philly was very tasty, juicy and flavorful. I added ranch to my Philly to make it even better. I went for the modest 6 inch and could probably have gone for the bigger one. As soon as our food was brought to our table a man was there not sure if he was the manager or the owner or maybe the cook, but he explained why they served honey with the sweet potato fries, he caught me in the middle of smelling it, trying to figure out what it was. It smelled like syrup but tasted a little like cinnamon and it was delicious paired with the sweet potato fries. The inside is very small and no frills, I noticed 3 or 4 tables in the front area and the same amount in the back area which also had a TV. I can't wait to go back and try other things they have to offer. Cheeseburgers, chicken club hoagies, wings and more.

Someone brought me a Philly and they told me its was from freds right down the street from me, (I HAD NO CLUE) lets just say I will definitely be making a visit I can't wait to see the entire menu, and give a true full length review. even after reheated this Philly was the best I've ever tasted. Fluke?? I don't know man this was seriously a good sammie... To be continued...

If you are looking for a good cheese steak this place will fill the bill. I am picky about my sandwiches.

So this little joint doesn't have the best decor, nor do they crank the AC down low so you really have to get adjusted... but honestly this is a Philly Cheesesteak joint. And that is the thing that they do get right. Excellent Cheesesteak, a bit greasy but then again what kind of excellent Philly Cheesesteak isn't ? The bread is soft and yummy, the meat is plentiful and the cheese is well melted and grilled. I thoroughly enjoyed my philly Cheesesteak sandwich. I also got a side order of fries to split with some friends. I must say, I have been to the Plano location and this location is actually almost exactly the same as far as food, decor, and setting goes. I really applaud that, a owner opening up multiple locations and they are actually comparable, it's actually quite difficult to pull off when you can't be there to manage them all the time.

Cheesesteak goodness. Love this place. I recommend the whiz. I mean their other cheeses are good but the drippy, messiness of the whiz is to die for.

This place is great! Nice guys, great food. The staff was really nice and i will make this a regular stop.

  • Celeste A.

First, this place is not where you go for aesthetics. Old Philadelphia photos and questionable paint decor abound. But do they make a really great cheesteak? Yes. Is it the best I have found in DFW for cheesesteaks? yes. Do I go here when I am in desperate need of food from home and there is no time to cook at home? A few times yes. I get the "Broad Street". Greatness. They also carry Hank's brand sodas made in PA and Utz brand potato chips made in PA. I agree with the reviewer who wrote that you need to order extra cheese.

  • Kevin M.

What can I really say about a cheesesteak place, in a strip center, in Texas? Well, I can say that this place puts out some seriously good sandwiches, that's what I can say. Sure the decor is kitschy, with faded photos of Philly landmarks and sports teams (boo Flyers!), and the paint scheme is loud and tacky, but really, who cares? I've eaten at Fred's several times, and the food has been consistently good, and the service consistently friendly. It isn't always fast, but I'm fine with that because they cook to order. I don't expect it to be lightning-fast. Don't get me wrong, it has never taken an exceedingly long time to get my food; all I'm saying is don't expect your cheesesteak to be sitting at the pickup window as soon as you've ordered and paid for it, that's all. The steak has always been cooked nicely, the cheese melted to creamy perfection, the roll warm with a nice "toothy-ness" to it. The steak has always been moist and flavorful, and has never been the least bit gamey tasting. The menu is rather large, which may be somewhat overwhelming and cause a bit of "analysis paralysis". I've managed to pick a couple items on it that have become my usual choices. Pricing is comparable to other cheesesteak places in the area, but this one is my favorite by far due to the quality and consistency they've displayed on each of my visits.

Well I guess it is about time to quit lurking and actually put up a review about something. So it is not a surprise that I start with a place that a friend of mine is the owner. Fred's is about as good as it gets when it comes to a cheesesteak outside of Philadelphia. I have been going to Fred's for a number of years and have been to many of the locations including the old one back on Inwood (once). For a good cheesesteak you need some good meat, veggies, cheese and the most important is the bread. Fred gets that from Amoroso's in Philly, and you don't get better that that. There are about 20 different cheesesteaks you can get, plus salads, cold subs and burgers. Of course he has some other Philly/ NJ staples like Utz Potato chips, Hank's Sodas and TastyKakes (which are now sold in Texas). Simply put, the food is great, the atmosphere is great and Fred is a good guy, when you catch him. With all the new shops popping open you never know where he will end up. And the Broadstreet with extra hot peppers is the best!

Ok so being from Philly we were excited to try Fred's, love the decor and fred is awesome! He made our cheesesteaks and they were amazing! Just like home! However on our second trip someone other than Fred made our cheesesteaks. We got home and I opened my car door, the grease had soaked through the paper bag and both cheese steaks fell out of the bottom and rolled down my driveway. So disappointed! Will definitely eat there again as long as Fred's making our cheese steaks!

I'd go here again if I had a craving for a Philly cheesesteak. I don't usually have a craving for them but if I did, this would be the place to go!

My Philly cheesesteak experience is quite limited. I honestly think the last steak sandwich I had was when I was living in the dorms at UT Austin and they made them in their grill cafeteria downstairs (good ol Jester!). So when the boyfriend suggests we go to Fred's for lunch, I'm skeptical. I don't remember the cafeteria Phillies being all that great. We walk in and it's a tiny little place. Some seating up front, a little more in the back. Decently sized menu, especially since it's just sandwiches. Two sizes of Phillies available. I decided on getting a Philly without cheese.. I got the mushroom one: steak, onions, and mushrooms. Can't go wrong! I got the smaller sized sandwich, while the boyfriend got the larger BBQ Philly. Girl at the register was nice, but a little difficult to hear. She rang us up for our sandwiches, two sodas, and an order of fries. We go sit in the back and wait for our number to be called. Adorning the walls is lots of Philadelphia memorabilia which is pretty neat to look at. Behind us was a tv playing a strange movie (I think it was that new one: The Immortals). Blood and guts and sandwiches. hahaha. Anyway, our food was ready in a decent amount of time. Sandwiches were pretty large and I feel as though we definitely got our money's worth. I wish there had been a few more mushrooms on mine, but overall it was delicious! The roll was soft and a little greasy. The steak was cooked perfectly and not chewy. Boyfriend's BBQ sandwich was of course covered in barbecue sauce and he ate every bite! He put "Fred's sauce" on his as he ate it. They also had a Hotter version of the sauce, but he stuck to the original. I didn't add any sauce to mine, but I'm not a sauce girl: I eat almost all of my sandwiches dry. The fries were pretty good. Thin cut, quite crispy. When we were eating, Fred himself came in with a bunch of supplies for the kitchen. When he was done unloading, my boyfriend struck up a conversation about the insanely huge 2 foot Philly that you can order. A guy he works with tried to do the challenge and I honestly couldn't picture a damn sandwich that big! Fred was super nice and we talked about the sandwich and other stuff for a little while, then we let him get back to what he was doing. Super nice guy, super tasty sandwiches! I will most certainly be back. The biggest downside is that we just moved and Fred's is now a 20 minute drive for me instead of about 10.

Summer time at Fred's is like walking into a broiler. The dining room is hot, hot, hot! And its not just because of the grill spilling heat from the kitchen. Ventilation is poor, and cooling is provided by a couple of ceiling fans in the dining room. I'm not even sure if there was ever central air in this building, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't. Also the dining area is sparse, functional; but lately it seems this location tends to use the back dining space as storage, making for a less desirable eating area. So if you're craving Fred's, call in your order and take it to go. Rules for eating a Fred's philly cheesesteak: 1) Don't be a moron and ask for a fork. It's a sandwich--learn to eat with your hands! 2) Yes, eating a cheesesteak is messy business...don't wear your Sunday best and don't wear white. 3) The only dressing allowed on a philly cheesesteak is Cheez Whiz. Don't ask for mustard, mayo, or ketchup...though if you ask nicely, they'll point you to the condiment bottles. 4) You can never have too much meat or cheez whiz...so order extra!

Great cheese stake sandwich! Lots of flavor and the frys are awesome. My only two problems are it is a bit over priced and the service was a bit short and rude at the front counter. I guess you can forgive that with the exceptional food quality just bring you cash because it will cost you

Hooray! My favorite Philly cheese steak place has opened in Carrollton! (It is right next to Pizza Patron on the SW corner of Josey and the Bush.) Life is good! My favorite from here: the mushroom cheese steak. It is divine!!! The fried jalapenos (hockey pucks) are heavenly! There are so many great items I haven't tried on the menu because I'm addicted to the ones listed above. Now that they are closer, I'll have more opportunity to try new things!

the cheese steak is ok want go back what did it for me was when i ordered my cheese steak and saw the cook throw a frozen block of meat on the grill.. I knew right then that it would only be mediocre at best and it was.. If you don't mind frozen food then this place will not disappoint you..

I just had lunch here and thought I would write my review while the memories are fresh. Overall it was a great sandwich. The taste was good and it was served piping hot. The only real downside was the size, a little small in my opinion. I had a large #4 (Extra Meat Cheesesteak), a bag of chips, and a soda. And unfortunately, I was still hungry when I was done. To be fair, I am a big guy and a big eater. However, I overheard the table next to me, and the gentlemen there ate his large sandwich, an order of fries, and half of his wife's sandwich. And he was a normal sized guy... All in all I probably be back when I'm in the mood for a cheesesteak, I just will have to order two sandwiches or something.

Soooooo good. These cheesesteaks are a thing of beauty. The bun is super soft and fresh, the meat delicious, the cheese melty. There isn't enough cheese for me though. I order extra cheese and the amount is perfect. I love the different options for toppings (mushrooms, peppers, etc..). They also have chicken varieties! Pair the cheesesteak with their house sauce (the hot is best) and enjoy.

Not the prettiest decorations in the shop. But if you're craving cheesesteaks and you're not from philly then this place will do. Make sure you look at their daily specials too, they won't mention it and will charge you full price if you don't say anything. (if you ordering the same as their daily specials)

I'm from Boston and was in search of the type of cheese steaks I grew up spoiled on. My wife and I found Fred's INCREDIBLE does not even do it justice. Try the fat Fred or the Rocky Balboa, you will LOVE IT.

I stopped in a few weeks ago and had a cheesesteak. The first sign it was going to be good was the amount of people either eating or waiting on their food. I waited a little while, but it was worth the wait. The staff were really friendly, something I have not gotten much of in the city of brotherly love. But, the sandwich was really tasty. The meat was great, bread, cheese, and vegetables were all cooked and put together perfectly!

"The best 10" you'll ever put in your mouth" - love it. Awesome cheesesteaks. The chicken cheesesteak + mushrooms was super yummy as is the beef & mushroom cheesesteak. I think I may have gotten slightly old bread since the ends were kind of tough (like when you put bread in the microwave and it gets chewy/rubbery). French fries = not so great imo, but why would you come to a cheesesteak joint for fries?! Very no frills, but very good cheesesteaks.

Soggy bread with contents spilling all over the place. Not horrible but annoying. Ask for a fork and they'll point you to a sign that says, "no #%@#% forks, use your hands". I kid you not - really. Try it. He eventually conceded and gave me a fork. I saw the mushrooms in the back, floating in a big can of water - gross. She scraped what little of mushrooms were left at the bottom of the pit of water for our sandwiches. Nothing tasted fresh unfortunately. Fries were decent. Condiment selection was relegated to mustard only. There was one bottle of ketchup in the whole restaurant - seriously? I'm glad we were the only people there because we got to use it all to ourselves! -_-

The Best Philly Steaks thus far! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu!

This guy knows how to make a Philly cheese steak. Possibly the best in Texas. Served with Utz potato chips and Hank's root beer. Fries are as well just as delicious. Hamburgers not so much, don't stray from the steak items on the menu. But this little hidden treasure I never would have believed was only a mile from my home. Deserves every star I gave it.

A bit pricey, but totally worth it! Good sandwich and good fries. Employees are always nice. Only downfall, very busy during some lunch hours.

Kid from the office came back from lunch and told me about his philly from Fred's. We both love a good a good sammie especially bahn mi so I trusted his opinion rolled up to Fred's. After checking the options I decided on a regular 6" combo. I wondered if it was going to be enuf but since I'm watching the caloric intake in preparation for the upcoming holiday gorge fest I thought I'd go with that. We'll, when my number was called I walked to to the window and looked at my lunch and thought, if that's 6" then I've been lying to my wife, and myself for a long time. It was more than big enuf and the flavor was ON. I tried it without the Fred's, then with and then with the Fred's hot. All were great but next time it's all with Fred's Hot Sauce. With the thin crispy fries and a soda, it was a very good lunch. Try it and you won't be disappointed.

Okay, so Philadelphia may be the same city that cheered when Michael Irvin suffered a career-ending injury (not to mention they're the same people that once booed Santa), but darn it if they don't make some awesome cheesesteak sandwiches. They have a variety on hand. 6" subs will run about $5-6, while 10" are about $8-10. I got the cheesesteak hoagie, which includes lettuce and tomatoes, along with your usual steak, onions, and cheese. My friend got a regular cheesesteak. They have ketchup, mustard, their house sauce, and a hot version of their house sauce on hand. The house sauce really does compliment the meal. My only gripe would be they give you a skimpy amount of fries for what you're paying for. The atmosphere is no different than a hole-in-the-wall pizza place, with pictures of Philly-related athletes and celebs on the walls, plus a few 76er and Eagles banners. It isn't air conditioned but they had a couple of fans going, so I suggest sitting in the back if it's a hot summer day. They have Rocky playing on the TV adds to the atmosphere (I guess playing the Tom Hanks-dying-of-AIDS movie "Philadelphia" wouldn't have been conducive to good eating). All in all, a good experience and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Came in after work one day looking to find some of that 4* mmm-action others yelped about in reviews of other locations. I tried the bacon philly with fries and a Tahitian Treat. They were out of tastykakes. Boo. Got my order pretty quickly, which is nice. I munched on fries on the way home. They were pretty darn good while hot... not so much once they hit room temp (but that could be said about all fries, I guess). Got home, stripped out of my uncomfortables and took a seat. I braced myself, took a bite, sighed. The sandwich was lacking the thing I love third from the most in the world- cheese. I opened up the little sucker to see if they'd forgotten it and, to my surprise, they hadn't. It was hiding in a nook of that amoroso roll. Didn't know because I couldn't taste it. They skimped big time. -2 stars for that, alone. Boo. Probably wont be back.

I'm glad Fred opened a location on this side of town. The sandwiches are great. Not over powered by salt, just good ole taste of beef, cheese, bread and grease. To those that complain about lack of cheese... you do realize that the cheese is between the bread and meat and not sitting on top of the meat right? Extra cheese is .50 or .75 cents. BTW any Texadelphia other than the one on the drag sucks, if you haven't been there, you haven't had a Texadephia sandwich

Yum! So glad they opened a Fred's on my side of town. My favorite is the mushrooms cheesesteak but you gotta order extra cheese (they are kinda skimpy on the cheese sometimes).

These are true Philly's I had a regular cheese steak with white cheese, it was delicious. The menu is simple, i even overheard a patron asking the owner about getting Stromboli, then owner politely said he was focused only on making good cheesteaks.... i loved that, no need to add other things to the menu, keep it simple these cheese steaks were awesome. They even have some sweets and Root-beer native to Philadelphia, so do check out Fred's!!

Looks like a dive from the outside, but the cheese steaks are great! A wide variety too not just your normal cheese steaks. But they have those too.

Bread was good. Very soft, greasy, and lightly toasted on the inside. Meat was chopped too finely for me. Under seasoned. Not enough cheese. Not enough onion. Overall. If I am going to put down that amount of calories, I want a flavor bomb. I didn't get it. The fries were crisp, and very good. One bad sign to me? The owner came in while I was eating and immediately set up his laptop and started looking at the Boardwalk Audi website. Didn't check on a thing. Doesn't bode well in my book.

Slow food, hot restaurant, mediocre food. The philly cheesesteak had absolutely no flavor and the place is completely disorganized. We were asked what we ordered 15 minutes after placing the order and then waiting another 10 minutes before we acutally got our orders. The restaurant is small and cramped and busy and this is usually a good sign, but I suppose I like my food to have flavor. This restaurant did not impress me.

This place is a gem. I was turned on to it by a friend. Liked it so much, I went back the next day. What sets this place apart (besides the cheesesteak), is the incredible service. Additionally, this place is relatively inexpensive. Lastly, there is a little wait, but everything is made to order. It is well worth it.

The food is good but it is not a Philly CHEESE steak because they do not put alot of cheese just enough so you can see it. They are a little over prices for the food because you have to get 5 times the extra cheese for it to be like a normal philly steak and they charge 1.50 per cheese wedge or 1/2 tablespoon of whiz. That comes up to 7.50 just in cheese!!!! now the house sause is a differ story, I wish I could have Texadelphia Philly steak with Freds house sauce..... ummmmm that would be perfect.

The food is actually delicious. The cleanliness of the restaurant, however leaves much to be desired. The floors and tables were filthy, the trash was completely full and probably hadn't been emptied in a few days. It kind of makes you wonder if the kitchen is in the same condition....

UPDATE: I happened to be in the area and decided to give Fred another chance, and I must say it was worth it. The employees were friendly and accommodating and the cheesesteak was pretty damn good. . My apologies Fred

Great cheesesteak at good prices. I've tried the pizza version and the version with mushrooms and onions. Both are good but I lean a bit toward the version without the pizza sauce which is a bit watery. I agree with Kiery the fries are good while hot but after that go downhill fast. If you want fries I suggest eating in.

I am from Massachusetts and used to enjoy a good cheesesteak at least a couple of times a week...Nothing I have tried in Texas even comes close...most of them have actually been pretty terrible. I was on my way home from Target doing some last minute Christmas shopping when I saw Fred's on Josey Lane right before Shipley's Donuts. I was soooo hungry and thought I'd give it a go without any great expectations... It's not at all impressive when you walk in...but then none of the great cheesesteak places from my past were either. I checked out the menu board...ordered a Philly cheesesteak for myself and an extra meat for my husband. I stood where I had a clear view of the man who I think might have been Fred, drop the steak...yes, steak...on the grill. Okay, I'm starting to feel like this might be better than I expected. Then the onions went down and the chopping began...the chopping with the spatula is very important to a good cheesesteak. Finally the cheese went on top of the pile of grilled steak and onions and the bread split and put on top of it all to melt the cheese and steam the bread.... I was growing faint with anticipation as the smell of that magic combo wafted through the air. He scooped the meat, onions, cheese and bun off the grill...wrapped it in yellow paper and popped it in a bag. I grabbed the bag and dashed to my car. Inside my car I grabbed the Philly, unwrapped it carefully and took a bite...ouch! It was really hot but I couldn't help myself. It was amazing!!! I ate the whole thing before I made it home. Surrounded by the smell that permeated my car and the flavors that were tickling my tastebuds I was in Heaven. I was transported back to Lynn, Massachusetts to my favorite sub shop. It was that good! If you love a good cheesesteak I highly recommend Fred's. You won't be sorry. Next time I will ask for double cheese and add mushrooms to the Philly. That's the way I always ordered it back home but thought for my first experience I would just try the basic Philly. You can even get it with Cheese Whiz if that's the way you like it!!!!!!!!! I will be back time and time again! This is my new guilty pleasure!
