Everything in here is fried. I guess that Memphis. The food was decent, I had the hamburger steak which was at the buffet. If you want something quick for lunch I guess this place would not be bad, it was also one of the only places open nearby for lunch.

The food here is solid if you're looking for hot southern good for pretty cheap and relatively quick. My one complaint is that this place lacks an identity. Is it cafeteria style food? Sure but you couldn't tell based on the signs outside for new items (chicken fingers, chicken sandwich, chicken salad) when you get inside and consider the cafeteria option there's no mention of the new items they advertise outside. When I asked about it the cafeteria server looked at me like I was crazy. A manager had to tell me to goto the register. Even so. There's no real discernible menu. On the cafeteria side there are paper signs taped about but I couldn't tell which sign was for what (the sign for wings was above the smothered chicken). Fried chicken was really good. Add hot sauce. Mac and cheese was basic. Fried catfish is solid as well as the potato salad This place could use a spruce up to better show what the options are so customers are baffled when they walk in. Now that I've been here and know the drill I'll probably be back since it's the closest joint to the convention center.

Foods are good. Order the pork chop with mac and cheese, pinto bean. Price should be included or visible rather asking them.

Stuck downtown this week for jury duty. This was the first place I passed for lunch and seemed to be a place I would like so I stopped in. Small cafeteria setup (which made for a quick meal) with desserts first, then meats and sides. I opted for a smothered pork chop, greens, macaroni and cornbread. Everything was pretty good. Nothing stood out above anything else but I would eat the same meal again if in the area. Good home cooking at a reasonable $6.99 for meat and 2.

Good old down home soul food. Get there hungry and don't skip dessert. The waitstaff is as lovely as the banana puffin'

Six of us from out of state stopped in on a Sunday for lunch before heading home. It was the first restaurant we came to after getting off the monorail. We were greeted by the staff and treated just like friends throughout the entire visit. I had the hamburger & fries combo which included a drink for $8.99. The burger was grilled to order and the fixin's fresh. Everything came out hot. My son had the hamburger steak with mac & cheese and he ate all of it. Others at the table had the fried chicken with pinto beans and cornbread and raved about the chicken the entire meal. The leg was huge, breading light and fried to a perfect golden brown. Our only complaint would be that they were out of several sodas at the dispenser and had no unsweet tea available (but it's Memphis, ya know). The attention from the staff was so unexpected and appreciated we almost felt like tipping them, even though this was cafeteria style. We will definitely go back if we are ever in Memphis again. I would recommend this to any tourist wanting to get a taste of local soul food.

This place is absolutely fantastic. Glad to see that it's on yelp! I came here for lunch while at a conference in town. The food is served cafeteria style as my fellow reviewer notes. This means that for an amazing price you get to choose from multiple diverse and delicious entree options, and get 2 sides and bread. The food was so good that I still remember what I got: the catfish (lightly fried, seasoned, and awesome), turnip greens, and a yummy roll. Other options include fried chicken, pork chops, turkey wings, and BBQ ribs; sides include Mac and cheese, boiled okra, pinto beans, and candied yams. Everything looked (and smelled!) amazing. And the staff is SO nice, making us feel like welcome friends even though we'd never been there before. I highly recommend this place for a delicious home style meal, served by folks who make you feel like they're genuinely happy that you came in.
