Pop's Pizza Indeed does have kitchy decor, but one who has done his time at the Mews deserves that! The Mexican food is almost authentic to the interior of Mexico, and I have travelled there more than once. The salad and tomatoes on the side are very fresh as are the ingredients in the food. The spiciness of the food can be jazzed up with homemade salsa and relish - as I said, fresh. The actual food of Mexico and Latin America is NOT the americanized version of greasy cheese slop and a toxic spill of rancid spices from Job Lot as are most italian food restaurants in New England; the Lasagne from Pop's Mexican Pizzeria is not that either. I would say that since I have been in New England, I fail to be impressed with what New Englanders ( Rhode Islanders, and Bostonians mainly) pass off as "good" - they drink Dunkin Donuts, for the sake of the gods! I would say a New England palate is in no good shape to judge taste! Rhode Islanders historically do not travel farther than a kilometer from their home in any direction (ironically, with the exception of "Flaaaaa-rida") , so what would they know? Yes, the decor is what it is, but the cook/owner actually speaks to you ( another rarity in socially cold and stagnant New England), and his wife and the other waitresses are happy to entertain your comments, and offer a friendly reply. That alone should be enough to warrant a stop, especially from out-of-stat-ers feeling the chill from travelling in the New England socially frozen tundra.But I digress... As for the food, we have had the Clam Chowder which is creamy with a nice consistency and not a lot of spice, which is what my pasty-white bf likes ( what is up with RI chowder - half burped- sandy, chewy clams in a tepid water bath with random vegetables - what happened to you people? No supplies during the colonial period?). The cod and fries were good, lightly fried, and the potatoes hand cut. I like particularly anything he makes with shredded beef or chicken, since I guess my palate has cooled off since being raised in New Orleans. The toppings on the pizzas are indeed al dente, and delicious! Thanks Pop's!

I am giving this restaurant five stars for the Mexican food. I live in the area and trust me there are NO authentic Mexican restaurants around here. I recently moved to the area from Providence, where there are many excellent authentic Mexican choices, such as La Lupita Taqueria in Olneyville, Chilango's, I Love Mexico, the list goes on and on.... My point is, I know good Mexican food. And this place, for what it is, has great food. Now, admittedly, pops is a little cheesy when it comes to the decor. And the dude who runs it is definitely white. As in, not Mexican. And, honestly, not everything on the menu is what I would call "authentic ". (They serve chimichangas.) But, whether it's the hippest most authentic place in the world doesn't matter because the food really is good. The chef is trying really hard to bring some interesting food choices to the area. They have home made salsa, which is excellent. The day I went, they were running a tamale special, and I was extremely impressed by both the authenticity and overall taste of the chefs delicious, tender beef tamales, steamed perfectly, and wrapped in the cornhusk, just like they should be. I'm gonna be honest, I even tried the chimichanga, that big, fried glutton of tex mex deliciousness..... And it was awesome! Huge, crispy, filled with oozy melty chicken rice and cheese magnificence, topped with ice cold salsa and sour cream for a nice contrast.... It was really f'n good. This place is also BYOB, which is pretty cool. Saves you from spending millions of dollars on margaritas and rolling out of there a little tipsy. (At least that's what usually happens to me when I eat Mexican haha). Also, They have an epic selection of Jaritos sodas, in flavors I never even knew existed, as well as Mexican style coke made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. The night I was there the place was really slow, but I got the impression all the food was really fresh, even without a plethora of customers to serve it to. I hate walking into a slow restaurant in the middle of nowhere are realizing you're being served three week old chipped beef (or whatever). Not the case with Pops. I haven't tried the pizza, so I can't review it, but judging from the prowess of the chef, I'm sure it's good. Also worth noting, this place is kid friendly, with a little coloring area with toys and books and a tv. Looking forward to going back with my little ones in tow, it looks like someplace we could actually take our time and enjoy, even with our children. I'm a fan!

Wanted to try this place and I'm glad I did. Kids had the pizza and cheese fries, I enjoyed a chicken burrito. Pizza was ok, soft pretzel-like crust as others have mentioned. Cheese fries were great! Delish fries with cheese, bacon and scallions. Definitely will be getting those again! My burrito was also great and filling. Nice to have an alternative to our limited supply of restaurants around here.

What a great find among a bunch of fast food joints. This is clearly the best Mexican restaurant west of Newport. Their ingredients are fresh and the portions represent a real value. While the menu is somewhat limited, the enchiladas, burritos, Spanish rice and salads are all excellent. The pizza's crust seems to be unique to Southern New England in that almost has a soft pretzel-like taste and consistency. We tried a vegetarian pizza, and the ingredients were cooked al dente and each was very fresh. It was a nice change from some of the ares other pizza offerings. I would have given Pop's five stars if they served alcohol, but keep in mind that they encourage BYOB. Oh, and the owner is evidently committed to using only biodegradable packaging for take-out orders and leftovers.

Pretty standard burritos. Good size, simple flavor. Rice was bland. The lobster and shrimp burrito was an extremely poor blend of flavors. Rancho burrito was better. Restaurant a bit kitschy and their child's artwork is displayed everywhere. Staff was wonderful and the place appeared clean. Website needs work as you can't see the menu only unlabeled pictures.
