Food was alright. I had the special, chocolate chip banana pancakes, which were delicious, but the food was WAY over priced. $10 for a short stack. You kiddin' me? My friend got smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel which he said was ok but it was $8.50 and they charges him $1.25 to put a slice of tomato on it. There was a wait, our food took forever, our waitress brought the wrong food to our table and no one offered me a refresher on my coffee. Not the worse experience, but in a state with so many truly great diners I see no reason to go back and I certainly can't recommend it.

I have never ordered anything here that I haven't loved. The omelettes are super fluffy and filled with the freshest ingredients. It's seems like everything here that can be hand made, is, especially the salsa in the Chourico and Salsa omelette which is a must try when it appears on the special board. On Sunday they do several different Benedicts and they are incredible. If you have a sweet tooth the stuffed French toast is also spectacular, and a full order is about the size of your head. The only thing bigger than the portions here is Cindy's personality. She is always cheery and like all the staff incredibly friendly. I try to make it here every weekend for breakfast and I always leave smiling and full.

This is delicious!! We were in town for a navy graduation and decided to stop in for lunch. It's about a 15 minute ride out of the main town but it's worth it! I had the Rueben and it was sensational!! Also decently priced! If we are back this way again, this will definitely be a stop!

Blueberry stuffed Portuguese sweet bread mixed with cream cheese. 1/2 portion is fed enough and cindy was pleasant!

Excellent! We each had 1/2 order Portuguese stuffed blueberry french toast ---delicious! Can't wait to return & try something different!

I have not been here in almost four years. I used to come by for breakfast after working over nights at a local hotel. I was in the area for my new job and I drove by. Stopped in for lunch and I am so glad to see that it hasn't changed at all... still amazing food! I ordered the Crabby Patty special. I was not disappointed!

It's a nice cozy place to get breakfast. There is a nice bar area in front of the kitchen if you're a single dinner and there are a few tables for larger groups. More than 4 people would be problematic during busy times. The food was good quality delicious breakfast. They wouldn't win a contest for innovation, but they do classic breakfast very well. Definitely will return.

Just the absolute best. Regulars and visitors pack in. If you order the French toast, get a half order, seriously huge.

Get the Portuguese French toast unbelievable.

We have a family of 5 and we got tired of Ihop and were in search of a breakfast restaurant that is affordable so we stopped at Cindy's. We absolutely LOVED IT! Every single thing that was ordered was absolutely delicious. The kids had the Mickey Mouse pancakes and said the taste was awesome. The omletts were big and could feed two people. The potatoes were so tasty, seasoned perfectly! I would definitely recommend eating here. The cafe is small and does get busy especially on Sundays however the turn around is not too bad and the food is definitely worth it!

Wow this place is tiny. The biggest table seats four. Sitting at the bar is your best bet. Chances are you're going to have to wait for a table, unless your timing is perfect. We both had one of the specials - bacon, avocado, tomato, cheddar omelet with home fries and toast. It was super tasty. The home fries were made from fresh cut potatoes and had a nice spice blend. I don't usually comment on coffee but it was brewed perfectly. The staff is really friendly, I would definitely come back here. So yes, one meal gives this place a high rating

A great country and authentic breakfast. Located not off the beaten path, but adjacent to it. If you're into portion control and low carbs, you need not enter. However if you are like me and looking for a great breakfast place hit this place up. Nestled on aquidneck island (just outside Middletown and a couple miles away from Newport) in Portsmouth lies this gem of an eatery. Whether your in the mood for savory or sweet this place has what you are craving, from stuffed Portuguese French toast to about 10 different benedicts...prepare to have your mind (not your wallet) blown. I had the joy and honor of destroying the farmers Benedict on the the field of breakfast combat. This thing was fantastic! Grilled sourdough bread, peppers, onions, meatloaf, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. It also included roughly two whole potatoes cubed into home fries with that flat top grilled crust that gives angels wings. I'm getting hungry thinking about it. Also, being I'm definitely a breakfast person I have a couple things I always look for in a dinner/cafe/establishment and when I find them I'm giddy as a school boy. The use of different coffee mugs (some for other businesses, some with witty sayings, and some just downright local) within an establishment is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's like eating breakfast at your relative's or friend's house. And this place had it all. Quaint like you were in grandma's kitchen (if sitting at a table ) or locals only place (if sitting at the counter). Everyone is invited to eat here, just make it happen!

Everything you want from a traditional diner; delicious food, homemade muffins, cozy, comfortable, friendly staff, fast service. It's small and few seating but worth it for the services and food.

  • Hunter J.

Oh my god you need to eat here. It was soooooo good.bi had the Portuguese blueberry stuffed French toast. The whole thing was honestly bigger than my head. (That's even the half order) the staff were very kind and friendly. The sausage was also delicious (not your typical package stuff) would come here again and again and again.

  • Andrew D.

Had the chourico, salsa, & cheddar omelette, and it was one of the best omelettes I've ever had. A must-stop if you're on Aquidneck Island!

Pretty sure this is the best breakfast place in RI. I was in town for a visit and this was place was on the top of my list to visit! Great breakfast, prompt service and very affordable!

This place is a solid 3 star restaurant for me. We went here for breakfast. Daughter had pancakes which she liked. Hubby had philly cheese steak burger after his first choice was unavailable. This was recommended by server and just average. Our son didn't care for his eggs and I had a veggie omelet. The vegetables were good. The potatoes were only average. We live in the area but I don't think we would ever come here again. It is a diner with some average home cooking. I never like to go to a restaurant when I feel I can cook better myself at home and this is how I felt after a visit here.

The place was packed for lunch except for one table but the service and friendliness of the waitress was exceptional!! Had the hamburger with spinach, portobello mushroom (an entire one!) blue cheese and bacon. It was well cooked, juicy and delicious. Will be back for the HUGE chocolate chip cookies. Worth the road trip from Warwick.

GOOD. LORD. The food is breathtaking -- well worth the trip to Portsmouth. I dream nightly about that blueberry-stuffed french toast. More than that, though: the staff working here are what make this place. Today, we got released from work for a surprisingly early lunch. Instantly, I called over to Cindy's and asked if they had special hours for breakfast. The man who answered said that the pan creations (eggs, omelets) are all day. But the french toast is only until 1100. Maybe he heard the anguish in my voice, because he agreed that, even if we showed up at 1105, they could accomodate. We raced. We may have endangered some lives on the road. We got there at 1105. When we walked in, the server already knew we had called! She met us with a beaming smile and brought over both a breakfast and lunch menu, ready for my too-eager request for the stuffed french toast. Turned out that the guy I talked to was the owner, and he had told everyone to be ready for that late order for french toast. Just a detail, but that kind of customer service makes even perfect french toast taste better. Add on top of that the ridiculously low prices for these homecooked meals, and breakfast at Cindy's is like coming home.

DAMNNNNN SON! The spinach sausage and mushroom omelette was crazy good. One of the best omelettes on the island. Triple D needs to put this restaurant on TV!!! Guy Come get a stack of coconut chocolate chip pancakes....you will be amazed!

  • Katia M.

Amazing brunch, and if you sit at the counter, you watch them make it right in front of you. Lovely omelet, French toast, stuffed, as big as your head that you'll want to finish. Good dinner coffee, friendly staff, amazing home fries. Only complaint was that dry today came buttered but decided to not care due to post-nuptial hangover. Worth it. Small place but come if you're hungry because you'll be fed, and well.

  • Robert M.

Been there twice, so time to tell the world that this is a great little place. It takes me about 45 minutes to get there and as far as we are concerned, it is worth the trip. So the two big things that make stand out (besides the service), the Texas Bene and their Portugeese Stuffed French toast. The Texas Bene is grilled corned bread topped with homemade chili, onion, cheese, poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The stuffed French toast is a quick seller. It is a huge, and I don't thing I can emphasize 'huge' enough, piece if Portuguese sweetbread, stuffed with cream cheese and Raspberries or blueberries or some other fresh fruit. So come hungery. The prices are great, the crowed is great and the service is friendly and prompt.

Very small, but very good! We went on a rainy Saturday morning around 10:30 and got a table right away. I noticed as we were leaving that there were people waiting, so come early. I enjoyed my bacon, egg & cheese on a croissant, it was done just right and my friend liked her fluffy eggs, crispy bacon, home fries and sour dough toast.. It was quite busy but the service was good and the frequent coffee refills were appreciated! While we were there we had a celebrity sighting, the great jazz musician Wynton Marsalis was eating breakfast a couple of tables away from us!

The hubby and I were going down to the Newport area and visiting Portsmouth on the way. We figured since we were going to be going down there for the day, let's just have breakfast there to try something new. I did a quick Yelp search, and this was the top place when I typed in breakfast in Portsmouth, so I thought "Perfect"....and what's this about blueberry stuffed French Toast? Sounds good to me... We got there 5 minutes before 10:00am on a Sunday morning in late February...good timing on our part. After almost 10 minutes of us sitting down, the place was pretty much to full capacity (I'm guessing there may be a wait during the summer?). I figured I'd go for that blueberry stuffed Portuguese french toast since they were raved about in another review (thanks, Nubia : ) The hubby thought he'd like to try it as well, so we decided to share a full order and order something else each. Thank goodness we split it...the plate came out and it was HUGE!!! Beautiful thick bread, and boy that blueberry stuffing is very very nice...a RICH breakfast - so unhealthy, but sooooooooooooooooo good. The other dishes we had? The hubby had eggs, toast, ham and home fries. I had a Portuguese omelette which had chourico, onion, peppers and Cheddar, toast and home fries. (yeah, we can eat). The hubster really thought the ham he had was nice quality. We both LOVED the home fries!!! Whatever magic dust spices they put on this did the trick; they were amazing. However, I was really surprised that my Portuguese omelet missed the mark. I thought the chourico would really make it a great omelette - but it didn't have nearly the punch I thought it would. Not bad by any means, but I'd choose another omelette next time. The only other downer - the orange juice (I believe it was from concentrate...sorry, just not a fan). But the hubby said the coffee was pretty strong...a good thing (I had my fill of coffee by the time we got here, so can't speak about it). 8/27/14 UPDATE: We recently visited a second time, and another omelet I had this time is one I enjoyed a lot more; it was full of tomatoes, spinach, artichoke and feta cheese. I introduced myself to Cindy on the way out, thanked her for her great little place and suggested to make this "special" omelet a regular thing...hope she does...it was fabulous! This time there wasn't blueberry stuffed French Toast...it was strawberry...and this one was even better! YUM!!!! So, to wrap up... - That AMAZING rich specialty of theirs and the home fries. - It's such a cute homey place, and two servers we dealt with were very sweet. - Very convenient! If you're on your way to Newport, you go right past this when you come off 24 South (about a 3/4 a mile?) on the left. We go to Newport probably two or three times a year. This will be a regular breakfast stop no doubt when we return. Or...if it's too crowded for breakfast when we get down there, perhaps we'll hit them up for dinner on the way back. We were told they recently started doing dinner in the afternoon there and there were many tasty sounding comfort foods they were telling us about. Well worth a checkout.

Greg and I go out to eat every Sunday (And sometimes Saturdays). Usually we go to the same spots on the island, but this time we decided to mix it up a bit. I hadn't been here since High School. In the parking lot, Greg asks... "why are we here?" ( he wasn't used to mixing it up.. ) The atmosphere was a bit... old... , dinerish, outdated. Which is fine, but just wasnt what I expected. The tables are crammed in as well, but not uncomfortably. We were right up against the heater, which got hot at times but the manager said they would turn it off if we wanted them to (we didn't, we didn't want the rest of the place to freeze on our account). The service was overall slow. Slow in getting menus (which I thought you typically get when you get seated), slow in bringing drinks, and slow in bringing food. The chochlate milk was killer though, definitely worth the wait! I got the egg white cheese omlette with a side of toast, and greg got chochlate chip pancakes. My omlette was really good. The toast was sub par ,and greg's pancakes were pretty dry. Overall, it's somewhere nice to stop on your way out of Newport or off the island, but not worth going out of your way to get to.

This food is so good and the atmosphere is adorable! Just the thing we needed after a night out in Newport. We got the strawberry cream French toast and the eggs Benedict- delish. Talked to Cindy herself and she is so nice and welcoming

I need to come here again, but for breakfast. Good lunch, but what you would expect from a local diner. Had the special of ham & Swiss on marbled rye, toasted, with vegetables. Homemade turkey potato soup was excellent. Chicken wrap may be a better pick. Homemade potato salad is simply well done with a light cream topped with dill. Alas, the grill had been cleaned and the breakfast menu was set aside. But it was 1130, so i'll have to return for the French toast another time.

Best breakfast place anywhere. The food here is so delicious that you can literally order anything off the menu here and its incredible. I tried the new yorker breakfast sandwich here. It was really delicious. The service is also very friendly, definatly a good spot for the family to enjoy breakfast & lunch anyday.

  • Cyndy K.

Cyndy's BOTTOM LINE: a lot of food, great coffee and toast! We stopped in for a hearty breakfast getting ready for our drive to Boston. I ordered the omelet with bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese and tomatoes. It was a big omelet together with home fries and a choice of toast. The omelet was a bit over done for my taste. I splashed tabasco and added ketchup to add some kind flavor. I enjoyed the wheat toast because it was lightly toasted with a nice amount of butter. The coffee is served in a great big mug and it was smooth with a rich blended flavor.

  • Jaci H.

As good as it gets when it comes to breakfast! It was so worth the 20 minute wait and would gladly come back again if in the area. The service is as fast as possible considering how busy this cute little cafe is. The staff was so helpful and just fun to be around. Unfortunately they were so busy that they ran out of hollandaise so their eggs benefict were not going to happen for us, but that's okay - everything else is outstanding. My fiance ordered a half order of the stuffed french toast special, which has this incredibly creamy pineapple stuffing. It was enormous - so only get the half order unless you're sharing with a ton of hungry people. I ordered the eggs (which were cooked perfectly, over medium) and the corned beef hash, which I never ordered before. It was incredible. I had no idea corned beef hash could taste so good. My fiance was definitely stealing off my plate! It was such a good breakfast that we can't stop talking about it. This is probably the best deal on the island, so get your butt over here!

They say that little whole in the wall places are best hidden secrets...this place was just that. The best kept secret outside of Newport! I had the stuffed Portuguese French toast! They offer the half or full portion; the 1/2 portion is great for 1 really hungry person. No complaints here, my family enjoyed their food as well. My mom absolutely fell in love with the corn muffins and even took some back to NJ. Staff takes pleasure in families having breakfast together, just a nice place for a Sunday morning. I'll visit again when I'm in the area.

A little country style diner that serves home style breakfast. I like to go out to restaurants because it always comes out better than what I can do at home. This tasted like what I do at home so I don't know if I would go back, but if you don't feel like cooking then this is the place to go. My son had scrambled eggs, sausage, and home fries and it was good. I had the "Islander sandwich" with was fabulous and may be the best breakfast sandwich I've had in New England. It was an egg, chorizo (big whole slices of chorizo), and cheese on a bollo roll. Cooked perfect and the sausage slices made all the difference. It doesn't come with a side and for the price you wouldn't expect so and I ordered a side of home fries. The thing about home fries for me is I like them small and these were whole potatoes quartered so it was a little weird and not as flavorful as most in the area. Service was friendly, but a little slow. My biggest problem was how cold it was inside, I wore my jacket during the entire meal and even the coffee wasn't enough to warm up.

Stopped in on the way to Newport after reading the wonderful Yelp reviews. So happy that we did. The place was perfect for a satisfying breakfast before a long day in Newport. I had eggs, home fries and an English muffin and hubby had the Italian omelette. Both meals were fantastic and a very good price. I am deducting one star as we both felt that the place was a bit untidy (dirty napkins on the floor, had to brush a lot of crumbs off my seat) but nothing that would keep us from coming back.

back in the day, before married life was a term i had recognized, i would spend the night at my husband's parents' house, and after a night of hard partying in newport, we would go to cindy's in the morning. the food is country-style and honest. it's a small restaurant with a bar facing the line cook, and then a handful of tables in an adjacent room. service is friendly and attentive, and an endless coffee in any number of cups the owners have collected from around new england will be filled on your arrival. i often went for specials of stuffed french toast... portuguese sweet bread french toast with a filling of ricotta cheese and the fresh fruit they have on hand. phenomenal. the other stand by is undeniably the crab cakes and hollandaise eggs if they have it on the specials menu. not to be missed. cure your hangover without the hair of the dog that bit you, and get away from some of those newport crowds. i promise some warm tummy satisfaction.

Went here with my husband and 9 month old son on Saturday. All the food we ordered were great; omelets were pretty big and were served with toast and home fries :) We were just a bit disappointed that they don't have a single high chair. Overall, I had a good experience.

This was a very small country style cafe. It in a way reminded me of Mel's diner. The breakfast bar was real antique feel to it. The service was real good. I came here because i heard it had great food. I didnt see that. It was good but not something I would say I have to go back next week. It was also very small.

Delicious breakfast with generous portions and great prices. Super friendly staff with Cindy herself working the kitchen. Sat at the breakfast counter which has a front row view of the entire cooking process. Had blueberry pancakes, a whole order comes with three giant plate sized pancakes. Witnessed an order of Portuguese stuffed french toast and will definitely have to try that next time

The hash and eggs are off the hook. We stopped here on a whim and were greated in a genuinely friendly manner. My wife got the philly and she was impressed as well. I would love to have a place like Cindy's near my house.

I visit Cindy's for breakfast nearly every Saturday. Once in a while I drop in for lunch too. I love a good turkey club, and Cindy's has the best I've ever eaten. Real turkey, a generous portion of bacon, and fresh sourdough bread. But the real focus for me is on breakfast. I love a good breakfast, and Cindy's is one of the best places I've ever found for the morning meal. Located in a nondescript little house by the side of the road in Newport, weekends find a steady stream of customers looking for a great start to the day. There is sometimes a short wait for a table, as it is a very small place, and the food is prepared slowly and properly, not rushed out. I like to sit at the counter where there is usually a seat available. Behind the counter is a small cooking area where Cindy and an assistant (you can only fit two people back there, and it's tight) turn out an amazing array of breakfast foods. I've had nearly everything on the menu by now including things like the amazing stuffed Portuguese french toast, and the perfect, and perfectly huge, blueberry pancakes. There are always specials like the wonderful apple, blue cheese, and bacon omelet, but even humble bacon and egg dishes are done perfectly. If you're in the area, don't miss Cindy's. It's worth a drive too.

We had a great breakfast experience at Cindy's. It was neat to see Cindy herself making omelets alongside her other cooks, all-the-while greeting regulars and newcomers alike. The omelets were definitely a standout favorite. They were large, fluffy, and had very fresh ingredients. The pancakes were tasty and light, and the home fries tender and crispy. Cindy's offers flavorful refillable coffee and a friendly staff. This is a fantastic local spot in the Portsmouth area!

I know what you're thinking, "Is this place open?" Sure is, but only for breakfast and lunch. From the outside, it looks run down. I passed it a couple times, before calling in advance to see if they were open. Once inside, you're looking at an extensive and hearty menu where everything is less than $10. I hope you're lucky to talk to Cindy the cook. She knows the area and is responsible for the pride and love that goes into every dish. Ask her anything! What the heck is a Bolo? What's Chourico? Where should I get seafood in town? Order an "Islander" breakfast sandwich to taste chourico, eggs, cheddar, and onion on a bolo. It's one filling breakfast blow to the gullet! Now you're ready for a long day at the beach. I like Cindy and I like Cindy's Country Cafe. Without her recommendation, I would have have never discovered Anthony's Seafood. Thanks again, Cindy!

  • Chris P.

As others have said, it's the creativity of this place that wins you over. I had to try the Portuguese french toast which is pretty tasty since it's made with Portuguese sweet bread. However, remember that you can order 1/2 order, since a whole order is humongous! My girl's omelet was super fluffy and the sausage inside was really tasty, I don't know what it was about it but it tasted so interesting. A little spicy, a little zingy, a lot tasty. Also they don't skimp on the fillings. The home fries were okay, cooked in such big chunks that they didn't taste much like anything other than potato, so nothing too special there. The venue itself seats about 30 people all full, so don't go with a huge party and don't be upset if you have to wait. The people working are super nice and will stop and talk to you, which is a dying courtesy.

What can I say? Cindy's is amazing and one of the Island's best kept secrets. Calling this a 'diner' is really a nod to it's origins and the layout but no indicator of the amazing treats on the menu. Breakfast is outstanding with strawberry waffles in season that will send you into fits of ecstasy. I actually heard a patron at a nearby table moaning with pleasure like she was doing the scene from Sleepless in Seattle. Lunch is equally good with specials that always deliver in flavor and with diner sized helpings. The staff are always quick with a smile and delicious coffee. The clientele run from local shipyard staff to schoolteachers and from extended families to America's Cup sailors. The best 'diner' in Rhode Island!

I have eaten at this place a few times now. like others have said, the Portuguese sweetbread french toast is fantastic. I can eat a full order but many others may not be able too. the Coffee comes served in special muggs. the Homefries are soft and taste good. Italian Sausage is somewhere between a link and a patty. Grilled English muffin is excellent. Place is small and gets crowded easy. get their early on weekends if you can.

Fat Peter rating system. as follows: STARS- standard yelp CHANCE I WILL BE BACK- will be back!!! Reason to go : my brother picked he likes this country general store, old wild west waiting for you with a shot gun on porch type places. I'm impressed Texas Eggs Benedict eggs over corn bread and chili. Its good eats just go you wont regret it. But cindy if your reading this, the eggs are over cooked you should cook'em ICE the eggs Benedict down then just reheat in hot water and then serve. But food is great!!!

This is a great place to get breakfast/brunch/lunch. It's one of our favorite places to go. It's a bit away from the hustle and bustle down in Newport, but it's definitely worth the drive. Best breakfast on the island HANDS DOWN! If you're touring the area and want a great breakfast, go to Cindy's!! If you're lucky, they'll be serving the Chicken Fried Burger!!!!!

  • Mary L.

Just came back from a breakfast with my sister, we shared the short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, traditional eggs Benedict and an extra side of home fries. Let me tell you that we didn't even need the extra home fries because the amount that came with the Benny was perfect, and between us we could only finish 1 of the gigantic pancakes (short stack comes with two, plate sized pancakes) and we were both ready to explode. It was all so delicious, my sister is a rather picky eater and even she loved everything. We even had enough left to take some home for my mom, which is rare when you go out and share entrees! It all came to $22, which is really good for the amount of food we got. We will most certainly be coming back again!

Cindy's looks a bit shady from the outside, but don't let that stop you. This place features the best breakfast food on Aquidneck Island. Prices are quite reasonable, the coffee is great, and the food can't be beat. My kids particularly like the french toast. Seriously, if you want good breakfast and you're in Newport, this is the place to go.

TJ says: A fine country breakfast nook, indeed! Cindy's is just across the main drag from the street where Melville Ponds Campground is, and that's where Charlie and I camp for the Newport Folk Festival. We went last year two mornings in a row, I remember ordering the ABC - apple, bacon, and cheddar breakfast sandwich. It was great! We brought our fellow campers, John and Other John, back bagels which the staff wrapped in foil to keep hot. This year our fellow campers joined us, and we all had plates full of a variety of deliciousness. They also have a fun collection of mugs, everyone gets a different one for their coffee. Charlie had his eggs Benedict at this year's second Cindy's venture. How was that, Charles? Charlie says: The Benedict was great. It was a tomato and spinach Benedict actually. Cindy's is a good solid breakfast place. They have creative daily specials and good breakfast sandwiches. Everything I have had there was great and if you sit at the bar you can even see your food being cooked. I've never had to wait in line to get in and yet, the place is always steadily busy. All around, a great nook!

I used to work here in high school and I cannot say enough great things about the food. I used to not be a breakfast person but after eating here every weekend I am officially a breakfast lover! They have your average breakfast items but they also have some interesting omelettes, homemade muffins, stuffed Portuguese French toast, and great daily specials. For lunch they have great wraps and sandwiches as wel! Cindy's also caters and does a great job at it! We hired them for a large party we were having and all of our guest had great things to say about the food!

Place had good ratings on Yelp but my experience was the opposite. Looks like a dive shack waiting for the bulldozer to show up, though that is part of its charm. The coffee tasted like old Chock Full O' Nuts, the eggs were rubbery, the sausage burnt, and the only thing "French" about my toast was when it touched my tongue. Service was friendly and decent.

I have been here quite a few times and each time I am pretty satisfied. I always leave feeling full and strangely tired! Must be the Sunday breakfast yawns! Cindy's is a great spot for those who live in the Newport area to get away from all the annoying tourists who take over the usual breakfast joints! It is located quite a ways down W Main Road towards route 24, so tourists are seldom seen. The restaurant looks like a small yellow house with a quaint seashell driveway. When my husband and I first moved to Newport, we drove by it almost a million times and kept saying we wanted to check it out. The tourist season is the best time to do so! There is not a lot of seating, and it is quite crowded even when you are seated, but that is just part of the quaint atmosphere. If there is a wait, no worries, because you will not be waiting long. The turn around is quite fast which is surprising because unfortunately, the waitstaff, which is usually 3 to 4 girls, is really slow. That's okay though; it's Sunday breakfast! It is not the cleanest place in the world. I do not think I have been there once when the table was not sticky (even after being wiped down) or the silverware looked a bit nasty. This is what makes me lower the rating. I always need to drink out of a straw because I'm a bit worried about the germs on the cups. They look a bit foggy when placed in front of you. They have a good variety of foods to choose from but do not try to ask for something special. Cindy, the owner of the restaurant likes to stick to her own menu and she will talk you out of anything you would want that is not on the menu. I have been there on days when my breakfast (two eggs over easy with a side of white toast and home fries) was absolutely delicious and other times when everything was either over cooked or undercooked and tasted like onions. Bottom line, the prices are good, it's a great opportunity to get away from pesky tourists, and the food fill you up! Give it a try!

love this place! the food is really good and service is pretty fast. The staff is also very friendly and you can even meet cindy! I really enjoy the Portuguese stuffed french toast. Order a half order or split it. It is very tasty and is very reasonably priced. You get a lot of food with any order so come hungry. The chourico is very tasty there too. I have tried the omelets too and they are very good! Its hard to decide between an omelet and that tasty french toast!!! The place is very clean too. The only downside is that during summer it is very very busy. It is a small place and during tourist season the place becomes packed!! We try to get there before 8:30 during the summer.

What a great little place! We just happened upon this place through the GPS... two starving tourist that didn't want pizza! The food was smashing. My friend had this burger that was huge and had to be squished down to devour! My quesidea's (sp) were loaded and AMAZING... glasses were always kept full! We definately left full just from the main meal... It was quiet and charming... and for our venue, no screaming kids! PARADISE! Definate must... bit off the beaten path of nowhere RI. This is more of a local eatery than a tourist trap... (this being said by tourist) But this factor is what gives it its charm. Definate hidden gem! If I'm down this way again, I'm a com'n back!

Great! This can be a bit busy on a weekend morning, but the wait probably will never be that long. It is a very cute little spot and the food and service are fabulous. They have a harvest omelet, apples, onions and italian sausage with cheese.. YUM. Not incredibly cheap... however it is still affordable, not overpriced.. omelets are mostly $7.95 with homefries and toast. They have unmatching coffee cups and bright plates with some of the ugliest art work adorning the walls.. overall a nice breakfast spot.

Ok, it's a month later and we're back in Newport. I loved their food the first time and even more so the second time. I had their omelette special (bacon, tomato, cheddar and avocado) and it was delicious. This is what a hearty breakfast should look like. I highly recommend it - again.

OH. MY. GOD. I'm so happy to have dined here. I mean, I probably gained 15 pounds from breakfast but this place is so delectably white trash I love it. And don't worry... white trash isn't necessarily a bad thing. I ordered the stuffed blueberry french toast. Now normally, that means you'll get two pieces of bread. UM, YEAH - Two pieces of bread here are probably the equivalent to about 6 and that was JUST FOR THE HALF STACK. Do NOT order a full stack of pancakes or french toast unless you want your cholesterol to skyrocket 50 points. The portions here are HUGE and CHEAP. You will be so full you'll be able to make it at least 24 hours before eating again. I also ordered a side of home fries. OH. MY. GODv2.0. Words can NOT honestly not describe how good and yummy these things were. Seasoned BEYOND perfection, cooked just right... my mouth waters as I write this review. Now let's talk about the coffee. YES THE COFFEE. As obviously this place takes it seriously. So seriously in fact, they'll give it to you in a random mug most likely plucked off at the Salvation Army so you'll focus just on the hot goodness they serve. My cup said "Go Army" on it (Epic Failure - Go Navy), and my sister Natalie's cup was from Ballys in Las Vegas that said "Jessica". But who cares, the coffee was good and our waitress kept it warm and a'coming. Delectably white trash indeed. Whatever you're doing, stop right now and head over to Cindy's. This place is a true hidden gem and your taste buds will thank you for it. You'll never be able to eat breakfast anywhere else this place is just that great. Trust.

Best country style diner I've been to yet. This place is so far from a chain restaurant, and it's very refreshing. Instead of mass produced bland coffee mugs they bring you mugs you're likely to have in your own home. I ordered the basic eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries for just under $6 and it was well worth it. The first thing I noticed is they don't give you two or three dinky pieces of bacon. The slap on about five to six hefty slices of bacon. The eggs also came out in the most perfect fluffy texture you could imagine. Now the home fries, and yes, the home fries deserve their own section. I'm a big fan of home fries, so I ordered a side without even knowing what they taste like. Mistake? More like best decision of my life. They season and slice these red potatoes to perfection. The flavor just engulfs your taste buds and the texture of the cooked potatoes adds to the experience. I really can't wait to go here again, and it's somewhere everyone should go at least once in their life.

I went to lunch here with a friend of mine who drove down from Boston. Yummmy. It's a small homey little place. It's ridiculously easy to drive by it on West Main Rd. (it looks like a cottage across from Melville school). The coffee came in big awesome looking mugs. I ordered some type of burger, and my friend ordered a Tuna Melt, which she said she enjoyed. My burger came with yummy shoe string fries, and wow, the burger was so tasty and juicy and huuuge. It was a GREAT meal. Would not hesitate to come back.

Always a fan of the diner-esque locations, and this place really does it right. Love sitting at the counter and watch Cindy work her magic, she bangs out order after order, calmly and seamlessly. Breakfast was delicious, and having tried the turkey, I am eager to try lunch. Will definitely be the go to spot when down in the Newport area.

I have to say. I'm impressed. the other major places to eat are foodworks and Bishop's 4th street. But what makes this the best is the CREATIVITY. this place has the grand slam, the pancakes and everything, but this also has menu items that are original such as strawberry stuffed Portuguese stuffed french toast. and also in that category, tiramasu french toast. I ordered this once and by god it was great. a stack of chocolate swirl french toast with the cheese that is in canoli with chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, fresh fruit and whipped cream

If you drove past this place and didn't stop in you are insane. Had breakfast there this Sunday and still can't stop thinking about how great the food was. We got there at about 0830 in the morning, the place doesn't have a ton of room which is fine by me I enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking with Cindy. What did you think that she didn't run the joint, she is there taking orders making the food like every hard working American nowadays. I had the Texas something or other and it was great home fries, and loaded. My buddy had the Portuguese French Toast and I was jealous!!!! I got sucked into my dish because the guy next to me ordered the Texas thing and it looked so good I ordered that instead of the french toast. Oh well gives me a good reason to go back. It was stuffed with blueberry stuffing as well. Man oh man still thinking about it. The menu isn't huge gives you great choices that you won't sit there for an hour deciding what you want instead you'll say to yourself I'll get this and leave that for next time. Talked with Cindy while we were waiting for the food amazing person I wish her the best the waitresses were great. This place needs to get on the map.....Food Network where are you on this one, your missing out on a Diner, Drive-In and Dive.

Cindy's is the best of the breakfast scene on Acquidneck Island--compares well with Bishops' 4th Street Diner, but more of a bon vivant's edge. It's a well kept local scene that was also a success as Claire's Roadside Cafe in the same location before Cindy's took over several years ago. The desirable breakfast standards there, yet Cindy's gets the win over 4th Street for a more eclectic variety of breakfast entrees, fresh herbs, and more. Cindy's offers a raspberry-mousse stuffed Portuguese french toast that is well worth the adventure--usually enough for two. This is also a kid friendly place--crayons and place mats to draw. Prices are reasonable, service is even better.

On a road trip from Boston to Coney Island, we were fortunate enough to stay with a friend in Portsmouth RI. After a solid afternoon in Newport RI exploring and taking a martial arts class my friend was teaching, we headed back to his place. in the morning we awoke to the great smells of pancakes and bacon; unbeknownst to us we where we were staying was in back of Cindy's Country Cafe. we all decided to go there for breakfast. I wasn't expecting much because the place was in the middle of nowhere, but oh my it was amazing. first of all, it has to be the BEST breakfast you can get anywhere in a 60 mile radius -better than Brookline Lunch, and better than YOU can make it yourself. it is a great privilege to have eaten here, and I totally see why others have posted that 'it gets crowded', etc. it should be crowded from open to close. the staff is great, friendly and fast, the food is fantastic, tasty and fast. I had the Italian omelet, my GF got the salmon bagel plate -also fantastic.

This was a very small country style cafe. It in a way reminded me of Mel's diner. The breakfast bar was real antique feel to it. The service was real good. I came here because i heard it had great food. I didnt see that. It was good but not something I would say I have to go back next week. It was also very small.

(That's even the half order) the staff were very kind and friendly. The sausage was also delicious (not your typical package stuff) would come here again and again and again.

The hash and eggs are off the hook. We stopped here on a whim and were greated in a genuinely friendly manner. My wife got the philly and she was impressed as well. I would love to have a place like Cindy's near my house.

GOOD.

Went here with my husband and 9 month old son on Saturday. All the food we ordered were great; omelets were pretty big and were served with toast and home fries :) We were just a bit disappointed that they don't have a single high chair. Overall, I had a good experience.

DAMNNNNN SON! The spinach sausage and mushroom omelette was crazy good. One of the best omelettes on the island. Triple D needs to put this restaurant on TV!!! Guy Come get a stack of coconut chocolate chip pancakes....you will be amazed!

I had the Italian omelet, my GF got the salmon bagel plate -also fantastic.

back in the day, before married life was a term i had recognized, i would spend the night at my husband's parents' house, and after a night of hard partying in newport, we would go to cindy's in the morning. the food is country-style and honest. it's a small restaurant with a bar facing the line cook, and then a handful of tables in an adjacent room. service is friendly and attentive, and an endless coffee in any number of cups the owners have collected from around new england will be filled on your arrival. i often went for specials of stuffed french toast... portuguese sweet bread french toast with a filling of ricotta cheese and the fresh fruit they have on hand. phenomenal. the other stand by is undeniably the crab cakes and hollandaise eggs if they have it on the specials menu. not to be missed. cure your hangover without the hair of the dog that bit you, and get away from some of those newport crowds. i promise some warm tummy satisfaction.
