Iggy's is where the locals go for awesome clam cakes and chowder. The fish and chips and dough boys are also really good. The only down side is that there is a long wait on sunny days, but I find it to be worth it. I can't wait until they open the new building!

Iggy's is awesome all year round!!!

The only downside to Iggy's is that it's hard to leave without having stuffed your face to the point of discomfort. Everything is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the line moves surprisingly quickly. If you're attentive while waiting for your food, it's not too difficult to snag a picnic table. The "platters" are GIGANTIC, the Quahogs look incredible, and the doughboys smell like all sorts of deliciousness. For those with celiac or allergies, the Manhattan chowder is gluten-free, and the staff did a great job of making the "baked scrod" minus the Ritz crackers.

After a drive from central CT to the Rhode Island shoreline, my wife and I invariably are in need of a clam cake and chowdah fix. This day we chose Iggy's and were disappointed to discover the choices for chowdah were limited to Manhattan or New England. How could Iggy, a presumed native, not offer RI chowdah? I will accept no substitutes and neither should you, so we limited ourselves to a dozen (clam cakes - this is RI so the counter person will know what you want). These were beautiful to behold, but finding a piece of clam, I counted 2, was the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack. Since clam cakes and chowdah (RI that is) are like a horse and carriage, we will satisfy our next craving somewhere/anywhere other than Iggy's. Helpful hint - there are coupons on Iggy's website that will save you a few dollars.

I just have to say thank you Iggy's for being so delicious, and consistent with all of your food!!!! Everytime I have ever gone everthing is always fantastic!!!!! I'm surprised Aunt Carries hasn't closed down by now being so close to you guys. That Aunt Carries is horrible! You guys are truly the best!!! Your clam cakes,& white chowder are my favorite!!! Keep doing what your doing! :)

Good local spot to grab a casual lunch or dinner. I had the lobster roll meal which is overall a good bargain - it comes with coleslaw, chowder, and fries. The lobster roll was the smallest I've had while on my vacation which was a bit disappointing. We tried the doughboys using a BOGO coupon on the town map.

After hearing some great things about this place, we took a drive from Fairfield County CT to spend the day by the water and try some good eats. As a seafood lover, I was unimpressed. We ordered the New England style clam chowder, clam cakes, lobster roll and a cheese burger. While I didn't eat the burger and can't comment on its taste, the seafood lacked flavor and was generally underwhelming. There was more cake than clams in the clam cakes, the chowder was more chunky potatoes than clam pieces and the lobster roll hardly had any flavor. I wouldn't say the food tasted "bad", but I was hoping for more of a seafood taste and flavor than what we got. If you like the fried part of a fried seafood dish more than the seafood part, this place is for you. But if you're looking for some great fried seafood - keep looking.

Battle of the "Stuffie" or stuffed quahog as it is called here. Bordering the beach in Narragansett you know this is a RI institution and well deserved. Stuffie- $2,59 Chowder- NE of course Homemade Root beer soda plus ice-cream for a root beer float- $3.29 1/2 dozen of the doughboys Burger- $2.50 First the stuffie- though lacking the spicy chourico flavor of Blounts the stuffie was good. Chowda was ok. Root beer float was refreshingly delicious. Burger thin grilled on a flattop- a summer burger. Dpighboys were light w/cinnamon sugar and delectable. Best little doughboys north of Brooklyn! We were too full for a full seafood feast, but the location here is unbeatable w/picnic tables and nice indoor seating & a loo!

You can never go wrong with Iggy's, and the Narragansett location is no different than the Oakland Beach one. Pro Tip: There are always coupons on their website, but they must be printed to be accepted. Print out a sheet or two and leave them in your car for the summer months so you'll always be sure to have them. Clamcakes, Chowder, and Doughboys. Sure they have other items, but if you order them, you're un-American.

Third visit reviewed! This time, it's the Narragansett location. Short, sweet and to the point... Simply put, you can't go wrong with Iggy's consistently superior quality food and good prices. There is a reason this place always has lines and guests happily awaiting their food...it's fantastic. I'm a huge Iggy's guy. And once you stop in, you'll be an Iggy's guy or gal, too. A Rhode Island institution.

My only complaint about this place is that it isn't closer to me! The clam cakes here were divine. My friend wasn't a fan, but it was perfect to me. Sweet, creamy, and clamy. I went for the famous Iggy burger with the sautéed pepper and onions with cheese added on and curly fries. All were delicious at a really good price! The burger was not too greasy and flavorful and I especially liked the spicy mustard added in. The curly fries were hot and crispy. Given the price and how the food tastes, I can see how Rhode Islanders and beach goers love the food here.

I am a HUGE fan of Iggy's! I try to go every time I'm in RI. The doughboys (which, to this NJ born and raised girl taste better than zeppoles - gasp!) are to die for. Like, eat salad a couple of days before and after so you can scarf down 6+ without guilt worth it. The folks at Iggy's are really accommodating in that, if you get a half dozen or dozen, you can choose some or all of the various toppings and get them bagged separately. I got two each of powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and regular (granulated) sugar, and the last were my faves :) Sooooooo hot and crispy on the outside, yet fluffy and not too dense on the inside. Yummmmm. Look in local touristy newspapers for coupons. I am basically drooling while writing this review. GO.

Yearly pilgrimage to Rhode Island. This time, stood in line for the chowder at Iggy's and slyly walked it over to the tables at Aunt Carrie's (just like I said I'd do!) ordered the lobster roll dinner here. (cold)...came with fries, slaw and chowder... I may be slowly converting over to an Iggy's Fan! oops

We were staying literally across the street so we saw the never ending massive line. Took our chances yesterday after realizing the line moves very quickly. I ordered the chowder combo which was a pint of your choice in chowder and 3 clam cakes. Here's an interesting bit of info for you: clam cakes does not mean cakes like you would expect having had crab cakes. These are, in reality, fritters. Clams covered in batter and deep fried into ball shapes. I had no idea they were served that way. I didn't really want more fried food but I had to settle for what I ordered. Even though I wasn't in the mood for fried food, they were pretty tasty. Could definitely use less batter and more clam though. I ordered the white chowder. I specified white because I HATE the brothy clam chowder. However according to past reviews, that's what I was about to get. But low and behold it was REAL New England clam chowder! I don't know if people previously ordered incorrectly or what because this was AMAZING chowder. I'd go back just for that. Tons of real, whole, fresh clams. Very thick, full of potatoes. I loved it. I actually dipped the clam cakes into it. Just awesome. Boyfriend had the famous Iggy burger with onions, peppers and cheese. Before I even had a chance to ask him how it was, it was devoured. Needless to say, he enjoyed it. He also talked me into trying the doughboys. Like I said, I'd had my fill of fried food but the look on his face after he tried one...I knew I need it in my life. If you like fried dough, you'll love them. We got the cinnamon and sugar (They have just sugar, powdered sugar and plain). Warm, soft, cinnamony and sugary goodness. I'll definitely go back for the chowder and doughboys.

There's nothing you can say about Iggy's that doesn't say "Oh, my gawd, the clamcakes and chowda are ta die for" Iggy's is a great post-beach take out experience if you're looking for reasonably priced, quick seafood. I love Manhattan clam chowder, and they really do have a great recipe. My sister loves the New England Clam Chowder and gets it every time. Their clam cakes are on the smaller side, but I prefer that because usually you get several good chunks of clam in them. It's also right near the Point Judith lighthouse so you can grab the food, drive two minutes, and eat your food while overlooking the ocean on a gorgeous day... sounds like nothing but perfect to me!

  • Wendy B.

Wouldn't say it was bad but I've had better. The little dough boys were yummy . My husband liked the white chowder . The clam cakes a little heavy and not enough clams.

    (3)
  • Alexander V.

In a nutshell: you can certainly get your chowder and clam cake fix here. It's good. I once ordered whole belly clams and we thought they were clam strips as they were so tiny! But this only happened once and I believe clam belly size is somewhat beyond the control of the restaurant (i.e. seasonal). Recommendations: (1) chowder - clear, no cream. (2) clam cakes (3) take a drive to a beach nearby

Iggy's. Who doesn't love Iggy's? This is a Rhode Island staple. There's another location in Warwick I believe but I have never been there (but Nick Jonas and Olivia Culpo have!). Anyway, everything at Iggy's is good in flavor but bad for you. Their cheese fries are yummy and so bad for you but sooo good. I am not a fan of New England Clam Chowder (but I hear that is really really good!) so I usually get the Manhattan Clam Chowder (red) and I love that. I could eat cups and cups of that all day. Their fish and chips are noteworthy as well. I couldn't finish because I'm not a big fan of fried food but the mahi mahi was fresh. I can't wait to come back!

Great red and white clam chowder. I have never been a huge clam cake fan but they are delicious here! Awesome lobster roll meal deal - comes with chowder, fries, and slaw. Nice outdoor picnic table area. There's so many chowder and clam-cake joints in RI and this is our current favorite! Hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow so we can head to Narragansett for some beach and Iggy's!

A Rhode Island classic, they serve New England, Manhattan Red, and Rhode Island style clear broth chowder (my favorite). The clear broth chowder goes perfectly with their incredible clam cakes, and the New England style is a made with cream and butter, and is fantastic as well! The clam cakes are the great, and really complicate either chowder. It's a nice little trip to drive through such a beautiful area by the ocean, and arrive to sit down for some chowda, and clam cakes. (I want to get some right now just from writing this review, and I just went recently!) They have two locations, and this one is my favorite due to it being less crowded, and provides more places to sit. They were even featured on the today show as the best chowder in Rhode Island.

Clam cakes are just ok, save your money and don't buy the lobster lacked lobster and had too much mayo. There are a lot of other places with better chowder and less wait.

  • Stephanie C.

Tasty chowder and clam cakes. Had a coupon for the dough boys, which were fine. A little dense but that didn't stop me from eating it. Ha! The stuffed quahogs were good as well. Overall a good place to get really full on food you shouldn't be eating. Gotta do that every once in a while!

Uhg iggys is a Rhode Island tradition. Their.doughboys are perfect. Since I'm a vegetarian i can't have much.else any more but i also remember everything else being perfect. It's one of the first spots to go when you're heading back from the beach.

Can be very busy. Be sure to get Rhode Island classic Clam Cakes and Clam Chowder. When I went everything was pretty good including the service. The only complaint I have is that they forgot all the sauces that we ordered. Honey mustard, mayo, and BBQ sauce.

    (4)
  • John D.

Clam cakes, red chowda, whole belly clam roll, scallop roll, and doughboys all very good. The clamcakes for sure need more clams, but seems to be trend everywhere lately.

We pulled up to this place literally at closing time after a 6 hour drive to Rhode Island. The lady who took our order was super friendly and accommodating even though they were closing up shop. My mom, sister and I all ordered lobster rolls and clam cakes. The lobster rolls were delicious! Thick pieces of lobster on a toasted butter bun. It even came with fries, coleslaw and a cup of clam chowder soup all for $15. Definitely making a stop back at Iggy's on our way back!

Got "Fried Shrimp" yesterday. Received flat, frozen shrimp with way too much breading. Disappointed in the poor quality.

Good seafood. It was crowded and took a little time to order and then get our order called but overall good seafood. The wait is worth it, so when you show up and there is a line, stay! The seafood was fresh. Chowder was very good. The Lobster roll platter was very good and priced well. Nice picnic tables on side.

OMG! We have malasadas in Rhode Island!!!! Woot, woot! Two years ago, I went to Hawaii and ate Leonard's pillowy malasadas. They are heavenly squares of fried dough covered in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. So good... I returned to Newport mourning the loss of these confections from my life. We're in Narragansett a few weeks ago and decide to finally try the famous Iggy's Doughboys. I wish we had ventured off the island and tried them earlier! Who knew doughboys are essentially akin to malasadas?!! To think that I could have been enjoying these heavenly pieces of fried dough years earlier, makes me so sad... I just wish you could buy just one or two of them at a time, not a bag of six!!! Sugary fried dough is awesome, but who can eat six of them in one sitting? Because, really, you have them eat them hot and fresh; a cold, hard doughboy (malasada) is a travesty!

  • Jack Straw S.

This is for the fish and chips and NE clam chowder. The fish was golden fried and piping hot, pretty good batter. The fries also really hot and delicious. The clam chowder was also pretty good with a nice blend of clams and potato. I think the reason my food was good was because it was not crowded and the oil stayed up to temperature. It was so hot that I had to eat the soup first and let it cool down !!

Lobster Roll! We came here because we were exploring South County and really wanted a lobster roll. Most people seem to come for the clam cakes and chowder but the lobster roll really hit the spot. Not sure if it's local or even fresh lobster meat that they use, but it was still so good with a little mayo and crunchy celery. Served on a grilled hot dog bun and at just over $11, that's not too bad. They boast Iggy's homemade soda but after reading the ingredients list, I'm pretty sure it's just repackaged commercial soda. Oh Well. I'd advise to spring for the Lobster Roll platter...its not that much more money and you get fries and cole slaw. The crowd is hit or miss. There was no line when we walked up but about 40 people had assembled by the time we went to wait for our order. Plenty of parking available with on street parking as well as a small lot behind the building.

Iggys is awesome. I have lived down in Narragansett for 3 years now and this is my go to place for chowder. White chowder. It's often busy but, but it's worth the wait.

  • Mike In Providence R.

Long wait for fried food. Why do they force you to buy a 1/2 dozen doughboys when all you want is one? Doughboy was thick and heavy.

    (3)
  • Kb R.

Outstanding scallops, very light batter, the taste shines through. Cole slaw is just the way I like it, light dressing, not too sweet. If you like clam cakes, Iggys are perfect, not too heavy or grease laden. Had their root beer, really scrumptious! We'll be back.

not a bad little clam shack down at RI's Point Judith. Mainly window service with seating for maybe 10-16 inside. the New England clam chowder was excellent... thick, creamy, buttery, with lots of clams and potatoes.. Just the way it should be. the clam cakes are great too, not too greasy and very tasty. Fried to a nice golden brown. Finally, I had the fish & chips platter... A huge battered filet of fresh cod fried up golden with a side of fries and coleslaw. The fish was done perfectly. My only complaints (albeit small) were that the tartar sauce wasn't homemade and the coleslaw portion was miniscule. They use Ken's mini servings of tartar sauce, rather than making their own. Seriously, mixing relish and mayo isn't rocket science, so go the distance and make your own tartar. the doughboys are the icing on the cake, though... light, sugary puffs of doughy goodness hit the spot.

Nothing completes a day at the beach like fried seafood. The chowder, homemade sodas, and doughboys you get with that fried seafood at Iggy's put that day at the beach over the top. After spending our morning at the beach, my boyfriend and I stopped at Iggy's and got two orders of fish 'n chips, an order of clam strips, two chowders, six clamcakes (clam fritters to my fellow CT Yelpers), a dozen doughboys, and Iggy's own rootbeer and raspberry lime sodas. (Hey, there's something about the beach that makes you very hungry. And we had coupons!) The clamcakes are greasy, but in the most wonderful way. They're crispy and salty with chunks of clam and mixed in. They're good on their own, but also very good dipped in Iggy's chowder. The New England-style chowder is creamy, has a good amount of clams and potatoes, and is well-seasoned. The fish and chips are great - giant slab of perfectly fried juicy, flaky fish in a light, crispy batter, served alongside also perfectly fried fries. The clam strips had a good clam-to-batter ratio and were tender and chewy without being rubbery. I'll admit, my eyes were bigger than my tummy, so we took a lot of food home. I ate one doughboy because I wanted at least one fresh, and it was the perfect dessert. Just fried dough with lots of sugar. (I got six with powdered sugar and six with cinnamon sugar.) The sodas are also delicious - they have that small-town-soda-shop feel to them. We got to Iggy's around 1, so the line wasn't too long. In the evenings, the line can fill the entire sidewalk. We grabbed a nice picnic table and enjoyed the weather. Prices are pretty reasonable, and there are also coupons out there. We got two fish 'n chips, two chowders, and 6 clamcakes for $19.99 with a coupon my dad found in the local newspaper. We also used a coupon for buy six, get six doughboys free. Interesting observation from my boyfriend: The little birds that hang out in the Iggy's outdoor dining area might be the happiest birds on the planet.

Been again to Iggy's just in early June and felt ripped off with no service, a piece of greasy dough fish that masked the taste of the fish and fries that were underwhelming. Their prices deserve better service and quality.

    (2)
  • Allison T.

It was adequate but I'd never wait in the sometimes-long lines for this food. The much ballyhooed white clam chowder was overly thick with not many clams; clam cakes had a really nice crust but not much clam and are fritters, not cakes (if the doughboys and the clam cakes use the same batter, the doughboys must be really good). Green salad was good and fresh and THANK YOU IGGYS for offering something other than grilled cheese for vegetarians (enjoyed a nice eggplant parm sandwich with a little too much bread for the filling, but that filling was fresh and not oily).

5 stars for the clam cakes ( we call them clam fritters in CT). I confidently stake my Elite Yelp status on this place- come HERE! Waaaaay better than the spot across the way (see my review). Come early as they have a long running line all day. There is no end to summer's fried (often frozen & over priced) seafood joints. But Iggy's isn't your average place. I've been enjoying clam cakes since I was little & have had them from all over the shorelines of CT, RI, MA, & ME. But these- they are the very best I have ever had! Big, golden, crunchy exterior. Interior is puffy, airy, slightly sweet, you can taste the clams- lots of them too. Fried in very fresh oil. Only $3.99 for a 1/2 doz! The whole belly clams are the smaller variety but sweet, plump, crispy & fresh- excellent! Eat outside on the picnick tables or inside which is intimate. They offer every type of fried seafood, lobster rolls, burgers (turkey burgers too!), home made root beer. Can't wait to go again.

  • Kathryn L.

In my opinion Iggy's has gone downhill over the past few years. Their white chowder used to be thick and well seasoned, now it is watery, bland and in desperate need of salt. The amount of grease in the food is disgusting and myself and my friend felt gross hours after eating there. Don't believe the hype.

When I think of seafood, this is the place that comes to mind. I grew up in RI, so I remember spending the day at the beach then heading to Iggy's for a delicious seafood dinner. I love the food so much...it changes up every time. Clam cakes- Favorite anywhere Fried clam strips, stuffies, clam chowder, lobster roll, and of course the dough boys. Usually top off the meal with a root beer float. Just writing about it....I'm thinking a trip to the beach in the next coming days is due.

Food is good at Iggy's. Unlike Aunt Carrie's Iggy's does not offer a full service restaurant with waitresses and waiters. It does however offer a small dining room to eat in when the weather is not the best. The food is good. It is a typical sea food shack but with a good meal. The fish sandwich is huge and surprisingly the steak and cheese is really good too. The chowder is thick and flavorfull. Doughboys are great too. It can be mobbed during the evening and on. Weekends but so is Aunt Carrie's so choose wisely

  • Jim O.

My first time eating clam cakes. Went to Iggy's for lunch after a few days on Block Island. I was totally underwhelmed by them. Fried dough with hardly any evidence of clams or even a taste of clam. Is this as good as clam cakes get? What a disappointment. On the plus side, the fries aren't bad, my wife's fried fish was a generous portion and moist. The batter a bit thick for my taste. And Iggy's offers a good selection of local soft drinks including a refreshing birch beer. So, maybe I just don't like clam cakes.... I doubt I'll order them again at Iggy's or anywhere else.

In Brooklyn, we call them Zeppoles. In Rhode Island, they call them Doughboys. Whichever you prefer, fried dough with sugar will ALWAYS will 5 stars. We stopped here on a dreary fall day for a snack before a drive back to CT. There was a bit of a line outside, but plenty of bench seating inside and the bathroom was clean (extra points!) Overall, just your typical beach-side joint. Burgers and fried sea food served up quick by high school/college students. The New England Clam Chowder was quite exceptional as well.

I hadn't been back to the state in 4 years and Iggy's Chowder was the best I had when I was visiting this summer. The wait was a bit long but the service was good and food was delicious. I hope I get to go back again after 4 years!

I discovered this place on my birthday this year. I'm a bit sad that I didn't find out about this place sooner! I've been going to beaches around here for years, especially Scarborough Beach. Now that I know of this awesome little clam shack, I can always stop by here after the beach! I always get hungry after those beach days :) I absolutely love the fried clam strips here. It's tasty and worth the money you pay for. If you love fried clams, then this is the place. As for clam chowder, it was delicious.. thick and creamy, but I tasted alot of potatoes, n less clams in it. Be prepared for long lines during those summer days!

OK, while out taking photos of Rhode Island lighthouse, I ran across Iggy's. Well, glad I did. I had the fish and chips. The fish was VERY fresh and the batter was crunchy, and NOT to think. I also had the N.E. clam chowder... not bad either. I also tried the doughboys (wow with 1/2 doz you get a lot). My grandmother use to make something like that called pizzafreta (or fried pizza dough) I will go back (coming from NJ too)

My second time at Iggy's, first time at this location. We got there on a Friday night and the line was long but went fast. We ordered the calamari platter, clam cakes, white and clear chowder and doughboys (cinnamon & sugar). I didn't want to wait until after I ate my meal to eat a doughboy and started with dessert. It was sooooo scrumptious. There was a debate at our table over which one's better, the classic sugared doughboys or the cinnamon & sugar doughboys. My vote is cinnamon & sugar but you be the judge. All of the food was great but next time, I'd rather take the food to go and eat it elsewhere. We ate in the picnic area and it was pitch black out there. There was also an icky garbage smell. Oh, and I got a few mosquito bites. So, on food alone, I'd give Iggy's a 4.5. On the "ambience", I'd give Iggy's a 3. Take it elsewhere to enjoy your delicious food.

Went here for lunch before hanging around the beaches and the point judith lighthouse. The clam chowder was fantastic, by far my favorite part of the experience. The clam cakes tasted good, although like all clam cakes I wished they were more clammy and less cakie. The fries were perfect however I did not enjoy the fish compared to the rest of the meal. There was nothing wrong with it and maybe by then my stomach was done with the fried food.

Had a taste test of whole belly clams, clear RI chowder, clam cakes, stuffed quahog, and a lobster roll. Everything was on point and fantastic.

What a hoot! I love the chowder and clam cakes here. The sign says they close at eight, but they stay until there is no line. The wait is worth it, so when you show up and there is a line, stay! I was a very full and happy lady when we left. It's a small place, so put on your patient hat and tip well. These folks deserve it!

When we arrive at the summer rental cottage and unpack, the next thing we do while putting things away is send our kids for Iggy's EVERYTHING. That's how we know we've arrived. The clam cakes are GREAT. We dip them in sugar because that's the way our Mom served them and we love them that way. We hardly every get a lobster roll there because for us, the REAL attraction are the clam strips with belly's. You can't get that anywhere in NY. The prices are fantastic and there are always coupons somewhere for the fish and chips, or doughboys, (they're great), or chowder. The great thing is we sent some friends there that have kids, and the menu even offers items like burgers and fries, so everyone was happy. I keep saying it must be the oil because there is never a "fishy" taste from some other meal in your meal. Bottom line....you haven't arrived in Narragansett, unless you've made your stop at Iggy's. Don't let the line scare you either. Most times...it moves pretty quickly. Prices are great, food is great and what other place offers coupons on things you are going to buy anyway??? Thanks for the incentive Iggy's!

  • Ted D.

Love Iggy's! Clamcakes & doughboys (about the size of a begnet) are excellent. My kids have never complained about the food and always ask to get Iggy's Root Beer. Lunch rush usually dies down about 1:30-2pm and late afternoon, supper crowd has line jumping from about 4pm on. They have a nice outdoor seating area; but past couple of times have found that birds inhabit some of the trees and do not like the patrons. My suggestion, get your order and take it just south to the lighthouse for the vista (even if it is raining, you can pull up and look out at the water)

Visited 07-16-2012 for lunch - service was fine. Ordered the clam dinner which had whole belly clams, cole slaw, fries and a cup of (white) chowder for $14.99. Great price. The chowder was very good. The clams are more like fried little necks, very small. That's my only complaint, but really, it's what I expected to get. I only know of a few places that use larger clams and the benchmark for all fried clams is Giordano's in Oak Bluffs, MA. Also had one of their grape sodas. Very happy with everything. Probably would try the fish & chips or clam cakes next time.

No clams for us this visit, but we had really good hamburgers with peppers and onions, so fresh and yummy! Others had crispy fries and chicken tenders. Everything is good quality and well-prepared. Line was long but moved quickly. Nice staff. One of those places that lives up to its hype. Can print coupons from their website and the prices are really reasonable. Parking can be a bit of a pain but spots free up pretty quickly.

O.K. Just barely four stars. I still haven't found the perfect seafood dive I'm looking for, but it must be here somewhere. Generous portions, reasonable prices, several inexpensive options. Much better value than Champlin's. Food is as good, or very slightly better. So, eat here and go find a view afterward. My sense was a higher proportion of locals here than Champlin's.

This seems to be a happening spot. Was here on a Fri night and there were quite a few people hanging outside Iggy's. Its both an indoor restaurant and outdoor take out joint. I had a cheeseburger and root beer float while my sig other had some fried doughy clam balls. Couldn't say much of the clam ball, mostly fried dough. The cheeseburger was decent enough. Cooked well but no condiments or toppings. And the root beer float was great. Iggy's root beer with a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream. On a humid day, it hit the spot.

Food cooked to order, which makes a big difference in quality. Chowder and clam cakes are particularly good. Fish and chips is not bad, but not great either. Reasonable prices, given the area.

The seafood was clean and fresh. It was crowded and took a little time to order and then get our order called but overall good burgers and seafood.

Could get 5 stars if there were more clams in the crab cakes. Actually, they were clam hush puppies. The calamari, chowder, meatball sub and shaved beef were all good. My son inhaled his burger so I could not try. All in all, good food just expect to wait for it. Good service.

Yummy. We had take out from Iggy's while hanging out in Narragansett. We got the stuff they do best. Chowder, clamcakes, and doughboys. The clamcakes had a great texture and great taste. A few more clams would have made them perfect, but they were still really good. The chowder on the other hand was PERFECT. Creamy, but not to thick... just enough pepper and spices.... and loaded with clams and potatoes. And the doughboys... HEAVEN. They are smaller than the traditional RI style doughboy... more the size of a deck of cards instead of the size of a plate.... but perfect amount of sugar and butter. Fantastic meal ending a wonderful day at the beach.

While I don't have an Aunt named Carrie nor do I like clam chowder (le' gasp!) I can definitely say without hesitation that their fish and chips rock my world. For a reasonably, inexpensive price I was served a huge platter of golden brown, deep fried godliness. More specifically, the fish was absolutely tender, flavourful and its batter, crunchy and seasoned while the fries piping hot and the homemade coleslaw, delicious. Their fish sandwich? Definitely no Micky-Dee's here: it's literally the same plank of fish from the platter, smothered in lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce and whatever else tickles your sandy fancy. Their dough boys and clam cakes are utter heaven: I'm never able to eat more than a couple due to their enormous size. Love it! And if you're freaked by seafood? Their burgers and chicken are always fantastic and made to order with all the fixings. In addition they have great homemade sodas and other treats. The wait can feel overwhelming in line at times but their prompt customer service fixes this completely as I have never had to stand around for more than about 10 minutes. Added bonuses, ample street parking and a bathroom that flushes. Compared to its alternate location in Warwick this one is the obvious winner. I love to get an armful of yumminess and take everything over to Sandy Cove for a sun-happy outing at the beach. The food is always fresh and hot, never stale or left out. Twenty bucks will easily score you enough snacks and munchies to keep the whole family happy in the summer heat. The fish and chips are increds! * Super summer tidbit- Sign up for their mailing list. Iggys rocks. Fans were lined up on this Friday evening like U2 tickets were going on sale or something. And since it took Grandpa nearly an hour and a half to eat his dinner - we observed the line for quite some time, and it was 20-30 deep line the whole time we were there. Step up to the shack and place your order. Then find a picnic table on the side yard to enjoy it. It's low key and family friendly. My fried fish and chips was excellent - and for under $10 it came with some tasty cole slaw and my choice of red or white chowder (I got red, it was pretty good too). Wifey got a lobster roll - she raved. Grandpa got the baked scrod special - and I was a bit dubious, this definitely is a burger/deep fryer place - but his fish was excellent as well. As fresh as you'd expect from a seaside shack, and nicely prepared. Iggy's doesn't have any alcohol, but has a broad assortment of bottled sodas, including their own root beer. The guy in line behind us said Iggy's had been packed like this all summer - apparently new ownership at Iggy's and new ownership at Aunt Carries next door has shifted the lines from the latter to the former. Having waited in the long line myself ... I can say it wasn't in vain. Highly recommended.

Ah Iggy's. I really wanted to like you. I really did. I had seen you on the Food Network Channel, and vowed to come all the way to RI to try some of your clam cakes and doughboys. But how could you be so...mediocre? I think it all comes down to my expectations. But nothing really wow'ed me. Your clam cakes are fried clumps of dough, with a tiny piece of clam meat inside. Your chowder is tasty, but hardly unforgettable. Your lobster rolls were uninspired with cold lobster meat over a plain bun. Your doughboys are essentially sugary doughnuts. So, I'd probably eat there again, but this time without any expectations for a great meal.

  • Chris P.

I had the chowder, nothing spectacular. But good! Quick service and reasonable prices, what I want to know is - who comes here and orders a burger (other than the girl that was in front of me in line)? I'll have to hit it again to try the clam cakes and other self-proclaimed specialties!

  • Sapna P.

I think I am missing something. Maybe I was supposed to order the doughboys and that's it. Everyone around me had bags and seemed to enjoy. I was in the mood for whole belly clams and was disappointed. Is it too early in the season? Because the whole bellies were anorexic! Barely a juicy plump belly to be found in my plate. The fried taste was good- crunchy, not to greasy- but alas, no bellies!

Iggy's...in the words of Celine Dion...I lurve it. Clam cakes, chowder, dough boys all rolled up into this one little restaurant = perfection. Clam cakes are the perfect blend of dough and clam, mix a little ketchup & vinegar for dipping or just shove it in the Chowder, either way its amazing. Iggy's is a must during the summer months. Window service, definitely not a sit down restaurant which makes it even more of a cozy spot with picnic tables and all. I've only ever eaten what I stated above, but pretty sure everything else is on point as well. Great spot for a quick meal after the beach before making the trek back home (because 45 minutes in Rhode Island is basically a road trip). Closes in the winter months. Can't wait to go here on my next trip back east!!

Great place for classic Rhode Island seafood takeout. Awesome clam chowder

    (4)
  • Toni M.

Doughboys! Perfect! The perfect mix of grease, powdered sugar, and cinnamon- crispy and crunchy, yet soft and breadlike. Only drawback is you have to order 6 and you will loose all self control and devour all 6. Can't wait to go back! a perfect summertime spot!

Fried goodness - fish & chips, fried whole clams, fried scallops, clam cakes, dough boys. Everything was crunchy. I'd like more clam in the cakes. Fish cooked so it was flaky and moist. Dough boys were delicious - like a donut with a flattened center and lots of granulated sugar. RI chowder was ok. We like eating outside at the picnic tables.

My kids wanted the fried dough which they loved. It was late afternoon and after a day at the beach, decided to have a snack; New England chowder was OK, too thick for me, but tasted good; Clam cakes were hot and crispy but needed more clams. I will go back to try some other things!

    (4)
  • Brian M.

The red chowder was bangin'! Good spice, flavor, and chunky! Didn't try the white-New England-style chowder, but the clam strips were just ok.

  • Tarah H.

Ah Iggy's. You're good. But you're no Aunt Carrie's. I'm not sure if it's fortunate or unfortunate for you that they're right across the street. (fortunate being they might get some of Aunt Carrie's over flow when folks grow tired of waiting) Your food is delicious and it's easy to tell that your fish is fresh, but your clam cakes, chowder and fish n' chips just fall short. Maybe I have high standards, but it's hard not to in a town that actually has a little shack where you can get some of the best fried summer time badness and the docks where the day's fish are brought in are just a mile or two down the road. Sorry Iggy's, you just couldn't convert me.

your standard seafood shack, i.e. deep-fried greasy doughy deliciousness. most likely you'll have to wait in line, but worth it if you're in the mood or drunk, otherwise just go for the chowda

Huge portions of clam strips and scallops in the dinner. Good NE style chowder. Some of the best clam strips I've eaten. Very good clam cakes. Better than average fried seafood.

We were first timers at Iggys.... A long line went vey quickly, and def worth the wait.... My wife had the chowder and clam cake combo, of course with white chowder... She said that it was the best chowder that she ever had.... I went with the lobster roll meal with white chowder.... The roll was grilled, a nice touch.... And of course we got 6 dough balls with powdered sugar.... We took our meal down the road to the Juddith Point Lighthouse... A cool spot for a great lunch... Everything was great, I highly recommend!!!!

Iggy's Doughboys and Chowder - Does the job, but I'll try the competition next time. After a nice summer day, we stopped in for lobster rolls and fried seafood platter. If you're from NE, you know this look. Lobster Roll was small for the price and uninspired. Seafood platter was decent, fries were NOT piping hot, they skimped on the tarter (and Ken's? Come ON!) and the lemon, and both were buried underneath the food, which screamed that they were just too busy and dialing it in. That kinda stunk. And who uses styrofoam these days? What, you can't afford something more environmentally friendly? The owners probably RAKE it in! I found the clam chowder (we got white) to be boring too! No chewies, just potatoes. Totally average experience.

    (3)
  • Jena B.

This place has long lines, which must mean lots of people believe it's a 5 star establishment! This place is is great for chowder and their doughboys looked good, but there are a few things for me that brought the rating down. First of all, the lobster roll was really small for the price. Second of all, (and this does not pertain to the food) they serve a lot of their food in styrofoam. While lots of restaurants still do this... It always makes me think a little less of the establishment. There's also no recycling for the glass bottles that their sodas are served in. Hopefully the new building will be a little more environmentally friendly....

I'm not a doughboy guy but Iggy's is more than just doughboys and clam fritter/cakes. Over the past two weeks we have eaten the fish and chips, fish sandwich, Iggy Burger. The fish and chips and the fish sandwich are huge - - they give you a nice piece of thick fish. The Iggy Burger was ok - - not Bobby Flay's - - but I'm not going to Iggy's for the burger - - for me, it all about the seafood!!! A job well done and since we live about 45 minutes away on the Connecticut shore. Parking is on the street and on the lot in the back and on the side - - somewhat limited, but we'll live with it. Our daughter loves their doughboys (a smaller version of fried dough). Toppings include granulated sugar, cinnamon, and powdered sugar. Buy them by the dozen or half dozen. Always a line, but worth the wait. Prices are reasonable - - especially compared to some of the sit down places down the road by the ferry dock. Enjoy. TASTE TEST: A few days ago, the kids wanted to have lunch at one of the sit down restaurants near the beach. I ordered the fish and chips and was disappointed - - fish was thing and not tasty at all. Afterward, we went to Iggy's to get some doughboys and I just happened to order a single piece of fried fish and decided to let the kids taste it to see whose was better. You know whose was better - - Iggy's it is!!!

Stopped at Iggy's Narragansett yesterday for the first time. A little more roomy and clean than the warwick location. Lots of people for mid afternoon but we managed to get a shady picnic table. The price can't be beat, $8 for a dozen clamcakes. The line was quite long but moves along quickly. I wish I got the doughboys too!

We love grabbing lunch or dinner at Iggy's after a day at the beach! The take out window is perfect when you're still wet and covered in sand. The seafood, chowder, and clamcakes are about as good as you'll get anywhere else in the area. They also have non-seafood items for those picky eaters. My boys had bacon cheeseburgers while hubby and I enjoyed chowder, fish and chips, and clam cakes. The chowder isn't the best I've ever had but it's good. The clam cakes didn't have a lot of clams but they weren't greasy and they were great dipped in the chowder. The Fish and Chips were very good, the fish was perfectly fried and the fries were excellent. I usually find the fries served with the fish to be very greasy but this wasn't the case with Iggy's. There's a small area to sit with picnic tables. It gets pretty full but the tables turn over quickly so try to be patient.

During our 4 day visit to Naragansett we carved out time for 2 indulges at Iggy's. Every item we ordered and devoured was a 5 out of 5 rating for flavor, texture, freshness, temperature, quality, and value. Their fish & chips was the best the either me or boyfriend have ever tasted. And then there's the clam cakes, which at first look don't seem so impressive, but just wait until you sink your teeth into what looks like a deep fried baseball. Not only is it very moist and delicious, but it's a clam frenzy up in there! Don't eat too many clam cakes, or you won't have room to try all of the yummy Iggy's treats. A trip to Iggy's isn't complete until you've slurped your way to the bottom of a cup of their New England clam chowder, also generously chock full of clams. They serve up large portions of serious food, so bring your A game. Last but not least, plan your visit accordingly, due to popularity and high demand, the line can be quite long depending on the time of day and season. They even sell t-shirts that say, "I survived the line at Iggy's". We got there just before they opened at 11am and there were already 12 groups in line ahead of us.

Well. Back down to a two rating. Went on a weekend and got the fisherman platter. The whole bellies were not cooked the whole way and and the scallops were greasy. The clam cakes seemed stale. Sigh. Love those usually

Sorry, but I have been on a mission this summer to find the best chowder down here in South County. The Ocean Mist had my vote ( with their clear ) until I had Pancho's ! Sorry, but Poncho's chowder is off the charts! I make my own chowder and I am trying to figure out what Poncho's does to make such an awesome chowder! Unfortunately, Iggy's chowder did not ever come close! Sorry!

Decent but disappointing. We were there with a large group and had the white chowder, lobster rolls, scallops, calamari, fried clams, fried fish, and dough boys. The most disappointing were the lobster rolls. They were more like lobster salad, didn't taste particularly fresh, or have big chunks of lobster, not awful but not great and there are better options in the area (Monahans). The rest was typical fried seafood that tasted about the same as I would get in any seafood restaurant though the fish was a bit greasy. The chowder was decent a little thin and under seasoned we had MUCH better at the Clam shack in Charlestown and Monahans up the road. Fried dough covered in sugar can't really go wrong there especially with kids. We like the root beer too. We will definitely skip the lines and go to another place next time we are in town.

A small shack close to the beach that people seem to adore. i decided to drive through narragansett to see it. i had the time so i figured why not? i ordered a cup of white chowder and 3 doughboughs. it was a pretty cheap lunch ringing in at $5.70. The numbers were getting called pretty quickly. Looking outside i could see that it could be packed in the summer time. Parking was all parallel alongside the main road. i was anticipating the doughboys after hearing the moans of the guys beside me, biting into the delicious fried dough. i picked up my order within 5 minutes and immediately wanted to rip the bag open and demolish the doughboys, but i was a good boy and ate the clam chowder first. Honestly, its not best chowder i have sampled, but it was still good. I think for me, it was not enough clams. The thickness and creaminess was there but just not enough clams. Now time for desert........I think if i were a cartoon character, i would have had cosmos spinning around my head and hearts as pupils in my eyes. Lol Delicious!!!!! I am in love with the doughboy!!! I had to try and stop myself from eating the third one. I needed help back to my car. Holy crap!

Love their New England clam chowder and clam cakes. The place was busy when we went, but the wait was not terrible. People in my party tried their cheeseburgers and highly recommended them. The seafood platter is big enough to share with 3 people. Highly recommend that you check this place out.

First time coming here and it was amazingly delicious. The staff was super friendly... And yes the lines are long but they go by quick. Got our food in a matter of 10 mins. Got the lobster dinner which came with lobster roll, fries, and slaw. And a choice between chowder and a salad. The food was really good. Deff coming back whenever I'm in the area again!

At the beach and stopped for some takeout lunch. Two fish sandwiches, two chicken parms, fries and onion rings. All were great. Fish was excellent and plentiful in a sub bun. Covered in fresh lettuce. Pretty busy, but service was fast.

My first time ordering for take out here and I gotta say....I feel like I'm cheating on Aunt Carrie's but the calling ahead was a REALLY nice option to have and it worked amazingly fast. Chowder is very thick and creamy. Cole slaw...big hit! I tasted garlic and something else a little sweet, not sure what it was but the combination made it really nice. Clam cakes are definitely smaller than Aunt Carrie's and saltier but I did really enjoy them. Mia at the pick up window was very nice. If you call ahead, you pick up inside (that's not as obvious as you might think).

When it is time to get your Stuffie on, Iggys is the place to be! For a real RI treat don't skip out on the clam cakes. You can't be wrong with any seafood here but don't miss out on the famous Iggys burger.

During the summer, this Iggy's gets very crazy. Just about as crazy as the other location in Warwick. The difference between both of them is the service. This location is much slower, takes the wrong order/ gives you the wrong order or skimps on your order. The last time we went here we ordered 2 fish and chips among a few other things, but for some reason, one was a grilled fish and the other came with hardly any fries. It was very disappointed, mostly because there is no where to sit so you don't find out you have the wrong order until you leave. This wasn't the only time it happened to me at this location, but it will be the last time I let it happen. I will stick with the Warwick location from now on.

Yummy, my fiancé took me here this summer, because ive never tried a clam cake, or real chowder. SO good. the saltyness was on point, texture everything was made perfectly. Great prices, fast time. Every time we go back home to visit we have to stop here, I only wish they had indoor seating for when its cold out! Thank you!!

Best clam cakes and chowder in Narragansett, hands down. Only problem is the wait. Do yourself a favor and go at off peak times to get in and out quickly.

Visiting from sunny CA. Today's weather in Narragansett was absolutely beautiful! What a nice town, I'd love to own a little beach bungalo out here. Oh, I learned a new word: wicked! Wicked, this, wicked that. :) I thought those SNL skits with Jimmy Fallon were hilarious. To hear it in person is even more hilarious! So I'm out here vacationing not too far from Iggy's and so we visited Iggy's and ordered quite a lot of food for 3 people. We ordered 2 Lobster Platters, a scallop roll, 1/2 order of doughboys, and 2 quohags. I was looking forward to this place because on the west coast, it's hard to find good lobster rolls. To put it mildly, it was a disappointing experience. First the smell of oil was overwhelming when we got our order. And not good smelling oil, but overly used oil. I know this because I've worked with many food manufacturers who fry their products. If you can smell the old oil, it's nearing its rancidity. So strike one right off the bat. Accordingly, all the fried items tasted like old oil. Now I don't know what goes on in the back there, but I wonder if everything (fish, seafood, doughboys, etc) are all cooked in the same oil, but it sure tasted like it. The most disappointing dishes were the baked quahogs. Size-wise, they were pretty big. Taste wise, I think they doubled the salt. We ended up throwing them both away because they were too salty---I'd say between the three of us, we only ate half of one. No joke. I was having a Nantucket Nectar with my meal and it really didn't cut the saltiness. That's how salty it was. The white clam chowder was above average. Counter to what some have said, I got plenty of clams in my white chowder. I would say though that it wasn't as creamy as I've had. For all you east coasters, should you ever go to the West coast, please visit Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach, CA for the best white clam chowder. Was anything good? The lobster roll was good. It's the first time that I've had a lobster roll in about 8 years, so I savored every bite. The lobster was not overcooked or rubbery, but best yet, the lobster wasn't drowning in mayo. The bun was toasted nicely too. I was pretty stuffed but I wanted to try the doughboys before they got cold. It did reek of old oil, so it just didn't sit well with me. I barely had 2 bites.

second yearly visit after sitting at the beach all day. service was fast, efficient, and polite, despite the long line. seen staff cleaning the picnic tables outside, which is much appreciated. there's indoor seating too (about six tables), and a single bathroom; no a/c inside though (has fans?). a bit stuffy but not bad an alternative away from the sun. onto food: last visit shared a fried clam dinner w/a friend, this time got lobster roll dinner & a double cheese burger w/curly fries. both times got doughboy. clams were chunky, but found the batter a bit heavy (maybe that's just me coz i usually start peeling at least half of the batter off any fried seafood third way in). lobster roll was tasty with the light dressing and soft but toasty roll; lots of meat and very little filler. double cheese burger w/grilled onion (eaten two hours later) was flavorful without feeling greasy. didn't try the curly fries; regular fries were good - light crust with soft flavorful inside, not greasy at all. doughboys: the dough itself is fluffier and less sugary than a doughnut, with your choice of "topping" such as sugar, cinnamon(?), or powder sugar - a nice soft sweet ending to the meal. have never tried what's across the street as friend is a fan here. it's a decent meal, but i don't find it standing out from the crowd. would go back though!

The good: my servicer was competently Pleasant. I got the fishermen's platter. Clams where plump and sweet not overly battered, clam fritters,French fires, and onion rings also done to perfection. The bad: the fish, minuscule scallops and shrimp had no taste at all. Their tarter sauce wasn't home made and tasted like warm mayonnaise right out of the packet. I don't know about you but I need a good tarter sauce to complete a fried platter, that was a big negative hey at least they had Heinz ketchup lol. I won't be going back.

This is the best clam shack there is. The clam strips taste like candy. The burgers are legit, and the crab cakes are wonderful. They're building a new restaurant next door, so hopefully, the line won't be down the street. But it was down the street for good reason.

A must stop!! My boyfriend and I were just casually driving to point Judith and passed this establishment with a line outside, mind you it was pretty chilly outside. I immediately suggested we stop even though we already had lunch plans.. After reading the reviews on yelp I HAD to stop so we did and certainly were not disappointed. We ordered the New England clam chowder and the clam cakes... To die for. A definitely A+ rating

  • Michael L.

Got their combo, bowl of chowder and 3 clam cakes. The food came out quickly, though it was very early in the season and not too many people out. The white chowder i got (New England my favorite of the three), was eh okay, not a lot of clams mostly potatoes and broth. The clam cakes was basically the same small hints of clam but mostly batter. For $8 plus dollars it was okay. I would go back again, just wouldn't make it a huge effort to go to once the summer comes and the tourists are out by the hundreds.

Iggy's and Aunt Carrie's are across the street from each other. When it comes to clam cakes and chowder, each has its loyal customers. So we decided to get six from each, and a sampler of chowders, to decide for ourselves. As far as the chowders go, all of them were pretty terrible. Watery broth in the red and clear variety; thick and pasty in the white. Big chunks of potato, almost no clam flavor. We also found Iggy's clam cakes really nasty, too. Heavy, greasy, salty balls of dough, with almost no clam chunks inside. Aunt Carrie's were the opposite: light and fluffy, with crispy edges and lots of clam chunks, too. There are usually long lines at both, and everyone in Narragansett seems to prefer one or the other. For us, that preference is definitely not Iggy's.

Absolutely delicious New England style chowder. Like, easily the best I've ever had. And I am from RI, so you know I've had a lot of chowder in my day. It's a little clam shack, so there isn't much to say about ambience or anything like that... my friend and I just picked up some chowder and clam cakes at the window, sat at a picnic table, and did not converse AT ALL because the food was THAT GOOD. That's right. I was too busy enjoying my chowder to chat with my friend. Does that make me a pathetic human being? Probably. But it was the first bowl of the season and I was just so ... happy.

Awesome food- lucky to have been in the area the other night. Got clam cakes and a ton of doughboys. It is in their name for a reason... 1 word for the doughboys, AWESOME! I highly recommend this for anyone within a reasonable driving distance to stop by. Only word of caution- there may be a decent wait on any afternoon/night that the weather is nice, so plan accordingly!

You know the deal, I'm a clam cake and chowder fanatic. I haven't found a place that beats Iggy's clam cakes. They are, aside from the late Rocky Point, the best I've ever had. The chowder can be hit or miss. Some days it's really good, some days it's a little too milky, with not enough thickness or clam juice to get that just right taste. The only thing I can complain about is the seating is limited and the tables don't get cleaned promptly. I guess that's because there are about a million people in line, so it's hard to prioritize. Overall, I always have a good experience here.
