We've gone there for the past three years around Father's Day, and the food and view is consistently great! They have a vast drink menu, the best scallops and fresh vegetables on the side (of course you can order fries). Service is a little slow, but that's all I can complain about.

Food was just bad and way over priced

I think this place is coasting on their location and has given up on trying to impress with the food. Blah, bland and run of the mill about sums it up. Too bad, because years ago this was THE place to go in Galilee.

Love this place! Had a craving for some good seafood, and my wife who's a RI native immediately thought of George's. Overall food was delicious and the remodeling they've done looks great. Great views for the rooftop deck. The only minor issue was the serving size of the fried calamari: kinda skimpy, but really tasty. Had the pan-seared sea scallops which was off the charts. Highly recommend this as a must to complete the vacation experience and/or a fun night out for couples or the family.

Great mothers day meal. We hit George's on our way back from Block Island after getting off of the ferry. Good specials, loved the clam cakes and the Naragansett oysters. My husband had the shrimp scampi and really enjoyed it. Loaded with shrimp! We sat in the more formal dining room which was very busy. Will stop here again.

I worked at George's 15 years ago or so, so I know the place intimately. 4 of us came in for a bite on a Sunday afternoon. Everything was ok, but not really special as I'm accustomed to. The bar staff was not particularly friendly. There are so many great places in South County, I'm not sure I will go out of my way for George's again. Too bad.

"Tell the chef this is low grade dog food. I can still see the marks from where the jockey was whipping the horse" We just returned from a long weekend in Point Judith and this was the only bad experience of the trip. How do you mess up steak tips and fried clams (in a seafood joint)? Narragansett on tap was the only consolation. Try Charlie O's, Iggy's, or buy lobsters right off the dock and cook them at your place like we did. Now I know this place paid PG for a great review!!!

Worst place to eat down at the beach don't bother go to one of the four or five great places around the area this place has the worst service and food I felt like I got robbed after I left boooo to you georges

Arrived at 7:30 pm, told 30 min wait. 45 min's later still waiting and many empty tables in dining room. Georges just lost about $100.

my family members have worked here for generations. great clam cakes, great location, great staff ;) . right on the beach, great for dinner around sunset times ! comfortable outdoor decks as well as indoor air-conditioned if your travelling with older folks. not to expensive either! grab a bite then swim it off . Also a great place to get drinks with friends- they often have live music. also they have a sushi chef come from Taiwan (or somewhere in Asia) for the month of august- best sushi ever (really fresh) . most of the fish dishes are locally caught

Frankly, after seeing George's on The Phantom Gourmet, we felt that the food was not up to par. We enjoyed the ribs, key lime pie, and cheesecake. The fish and chips were good/average. The teriyaki shrimp skewers, sauteed calamari, and shrimp in hot sauce disappointed. The lemonade tasted like Crystal Light (a taste I abhor). We won't be coming back. Next time, we'll go to Phillip's in MD. Even Legal's is better than this place.

Chowder and Clam cakes! We stopped in for some at Geoge's and sat at the picnic tables outside so our last trip was just at the small take out window out front. The food is great and hits the spot- but seem to have some trouble in the service department as it took almost 20 minutes for the staff to get everything together- and there was only one couple ahead of us. Its great they have Del's as part of their building, and also a great location right near the beach if you are looking to stop for lunch during your time in the surf and sand.

We arrived at George's mid-week on a warm and sunny day in late May, long before the crowds descend on Galilee and the Block Island Ferry. We sat outside on the second floor balcony and looked at the beach only 100 yards away. Only one other couple dining outside. Ahh, paradise in South County, Rhode Island. The food was good - Rhode Island chowder was excellent and they added some tomato sauce to the normally clear broth at my request. Crab cakes as an appetizer were excellent - three pan-fried cakes with just a taste of tartar sauce thrown in. My lunch was shrimp and mussels over linguine in a marinara sauce. Very good, although I think the shrimp were frozen, not fresh (they were either farm raised or imported, certainly not locally caught). Regardless, a good meal at a very reasonable price. After lunch, we strolled down to the water and sat on the jetty that forms the harbor opening. Boat traffic was light (high gas prices?), but just sitting there after lunch definitely makes the visit to George's worthwhile. I suspect George's is very lively at night during the summer. Have your drinks out on the balcony, or in the bar or dining rooms inside. The beach is right there. Many other seafood restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Parking might be hard however.

Had early dinner here on a Saturday in april. Bit expensive for what we ate. Nothing outstanding, but good. Adults had grilled lobster - nice flavor, bland green beans and rice pilaf; and broiled scallops dinner - okay but only six scallops. Daughter had six nice shrimp cocktail and a salad and son had seafood chowder and six buffalo wings. One beer, kids w/ soda and the price was $100. Nice setting and staff attentive, but food was just average.

Not much of a place as far as ambiance, but the food was good. I finally got crab legs! My husband did as well, and they were good. Lobster bisque was good as well. The waitress was attentive as well.

Worst seafood I have ever had. No clams in either the cakes or the chowder. The service was awful. When we complained that my sons cheeseburger was burnt the manager came to the table and took the burger right off of his plate with her hands, inspected it, put it back on his plate, and walked away. 2 minutes later she returned, took the burger (no not the whole plate) just the burger in her hand again and walked off with it. 15 minutes later she returned with a new burger, no new warm fries, just a burger and yes you guessed it burnt again. We paid our bill and talked to the managers boss on the way out and he said "well next time you come back ask for me and I will make sure you are taken care of properly." WONT BE A NEXT TIME, we will be going back to IGGY's........................

Great location and views of water make it a must go for the bar crowd. Food is mediocre at best, and served in small portions. Started with fried calamari, it's not a good sign when the hot peppers that come with dish are better than dish itself. Stuffed quahog clams were good, but a little dry. I had the stuffed flounder for entree, good flavor, but again portion not satisfying. Side selections limited to rice, mashed potatoes and vegetable medley. Note to staff, it's not really a medley when you only have two vegetables! Finally, would be nice if hostess and staff improved experience, it's a restaurant, not a factory.

lets start with the waitress who must have left her ADD meds at home because she was gone before I could finish a sentence, needless to say she needs to "retrained" or never take a job that involves speaking with people. Food wasn't bad but wasn't good either, had zero wow factor, bland, kinda overpriced. Menu is too extensive, they should be who they are, a fried seafood place, with a good bar, and great location, that's it. If they stick to what they probably are good at they would be a lot better off. Management was very good at rectifying the situation for a rather underwhelming dining experience so that was a positive.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews on here so far, but I have to say, I really enjoyed this restaurant. I came here on my first and last night in Narragansett. The first night, I sat outdoors on the water. It was a nice place. A little expensive, but still affordable, especially for seafood. Littlenecks on the half shell, crab cakes, shrimp po'boys, softshell crab sandwiches, baked stuffed shrimp!!!!!!.... yes please. I'm taking one star off... Half of a star for the fact that the bar tender forgot to give me my drink for nearly 15 minutes during a time that was not very busy, and half of a star for the really bad live music they had. Still, I loved this place.

I had high hopes for this place. We had heard so many good things and I was hoping for some great seafood. Disclaimer: I do not eat stuffies...which were very popular here. We came for fresh scalopps, etc. The seared scallops were nothing special. I feel like this is one of those places you go when you don't feel like cooking dinner. I could have made them the same way home. We thought our meal was pretty bland. One plus was that the drinks were good and my salad was fresh but again nothing special. Not sure if I'll go back.

Went here recently for a late lunch and to watch the USA-Ghana soccer game at the bar and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was, given what we have heard about the place over the years. Raw Bar Sampler was fresh, the Bahamian Shrimp skewer salad was delicious, I loved the dressing they used. However, last week we came back with family from out of town wanting to take them to dinner. We had decided on George's based on our experience there a few weeks prior + the view. We were told that the wait for 6 people was 45 minutes to an hour. The food is good, but not that good that we were willing to wait, and mind you there were empty tables upstairs and many more downstairs so I am not sure why we were quoted such a ridiculously long wait time given the empty tables, hence the 3-star rating. We left and went to Captain Jack's instead, which had no wait and phenomenal food. Also be forwarned, if you want to go here for drinks, it can get very expensive very quickly, $8 for a shot of Patron tequila which is a bit steep! No air-conditioning upstairs either, and it can be very stifling on a hot humid day. My recommendation? Good for a quick drink and appetizer at the bar (assuming there's a seat available), but try someplace else for dinner.

Waterfront restaurants always seem to be a toss-up between the view and food. Most rely on their location, and a long day in the sun, to distract customers. Our experience was along those lines. Quick summary: decent food, fair service, would not go back. We had the mussels (yum!), the lobster bisque (yum, but too much dill), oysters, and clam bellies. For the price, we probably were better off at a clam shack... Long summary: Looking at previous reviews, the kitchen seems to be root of many issues. While waiting for a table was not a big deal, waiting and waiting for food seemed to be an issue for most of the folks around us. The funny/aggrevating part was when the GM showed-up to help clear tables, clearly sending the message that we'd overstayed our welcome and was more interested in clearing us out than ensuring we'd come back. I was tempted to tell him that he should wait for the table just as long as we'd waited for the food, but it was easier to pay the bill, leave a fair tip, and head for home.

Great location, sits on the breach way. Service was good but out of nine people eight of the meals were over cooked. It's not hard to fry fresh seafood or sear a tuna steak. For drinks and live music it's great the food is not worth the time or money.

was at George's on 05/29/11 and the new england chowder was disgusting!!!!!!!! The fried fish sandwich is better at McDonalds. The lobster roll was ok. The burgers are also better at McDonalds.. They have a bunch of kids working there and you get what you pay for. Messed up my order and the food is not good. And to boot the halt taking orders because they are backed up! Order and eat at your own risk!!!!

George's isn't a restaurant - it's a RI institution. I've been going there since I was a kid in the Mesozoic Era (1950s). Same ambiance, same wonderful deck overlooking the beach, same food. Fish & chips are fresh and tasty, clam cakes legendary. Great cocktails too. It's all fresh - the boats are bringing in the day's catch just a couple of feet away. You'll wait a long time for a table on the deck in high summer season, but if you've had enough of sand, sun and sea, ask for a table in the ground floor dining room - it's less trendy but it is air-conditioned.

Worst chowder ever. I have lived in RI my whole life and I am ashamed that you would serve that quality of chowder to out of state visitors.

Sat at the bar, friendly bartenders, great drinks. Love the food. The salmon is always good, the buffalo shrimp are amazing as an appetizer. We always go here when visiting RI. The bar has great views of the water also.

Really good vibes but some of the food is average but they have free parking and live music. I will always come back to this place because it's right on the beach, they have a fire pit, lounge and all around good vibes. The only thing I wish is that some of the entrées were worth the price that you paid for them. I do like their clam chowder's but stay away from the Rhode Island clam chowder, since this taste like salt water and a little bit of seafood. Definitely get the cream your clam chowder if you expect the taste of a New England clam chowder. Also they do really good scallops and the servers are awesome. We got a lot of recommendations about the neighboring towns and where to go for certain things from my server. He lives in Narragansett all year so he had some really good tips.

Avoid peak hours. It's the mistake most people make when they go to George's for the first time. Instead, visit late afternoon on a weekday when there's still plenty of sunshine and parking. You will discover that on a weekday, Galilee's atmosphere is the same, the ocean smells the same, inebriated tourists stumble off the ferry the same, and the seagulls attack the same -- but the food is significantly better! On this sunny Thursday afternoon, we sat out on the patio and ordered the chowder (a bit sub-par for compared to what you can get a round town) an order of clam cakes (a delight) and whole-bellied fried clams (because ordering clam strips is grounds for divorce in this village). The fried clams were small and local, and very, very sweet -- perfect! And the clam cakes were the best I've had this season, anywhere. Eat early, eat often.

Nothing but love for the upstairs room at George's! The bartender was so great! With such a big drink and food menu, it's hard to find a personable and knowledgable bartender at times but the staff at George's hit the mark on our visit. STUFFIES to kill for and a homemade Bloody Mary mix that was superb! Can't beat the view or the breeze there. Private parking lot, always a plus, and hard to come by in a beach front restaurant. Lots of options here-several bars and indoor and outdoor seating.

My friend from college took my fiance here last week for dinner and the ambiance was great. A gorgeous sunset started off a rather chilly spring evening so we sat inside. Cocktails were good, and the food was also. I tried a clam cake which was tasty and new to me. For dinner I opted for the steamed lobster and three local oysters to start. Our server James M was decent and gave us good service. We arrived at the dinner hour and upstairs it was more boisterous with live music, but downstairs was perfect to be able to catch up and chat. For a Friday night it seemed busy but we were the last table to leave, we tried not to be campers but at the same time it had been awhile since we had seen one another. I would go back next time I am in Narragansett for sure. For three before tip it was $ 111.

A summer favorite on your way to or back from BI. They get packed at times but the bar is always available with full menu. The quahogs are my favorite.

So last time I checked clam cakes and clam chowder are supposed to have clams in them? The "clam "chowder was soupy and full of potatoes. No clams. The "award winning" clam cakes were fried balls of dough. I literally pulled apart every clam cake in the half dozen ordered and found maybe a few tiny little pieces in 2 ? Out of the half dozen. Service was horrendous. Waitress forgot to bring our drinks out. The kid helping her spilt the chowder on me when setting it down. The clam cakes didn't come out until I was almost all done with my chowder. There was not one positive thing about this place and I don't understand how it's stayed in business this long. They should be embarrassed about serving clam cakes and chowder with no clams in them!

Nice environment especially when sitting outside. Service was good. Food was also good. Place is pretty busy so there was an hour wait. Parking is a little tough when busy. Had a dead bug in my mixed drink, they replaced it with another but they should have taken it off the bill in that situation as should any restaurant. Overall wouldn't mind giving them a second chance.

This is when I wish you could give a separate review for service and food. Food was very good! We sat upstairs near the bar. We asked to be moved closer to the window which the hostess did. However we never received silverware, even after we asked and after we got our food. The service wasn't terrible, but for the price and ambiance, we expected a little more. I had stuffed shrimp and the lobster bisque which was good, but borderline too creamy. My husband had the snail salad which he really enjoyed!!! Kids had chicken fingers and pasta which were fine. The highlight for kids were the prizes in the treasure box on the way out ... Thumbs up. Great views !

The mashed potatoes were very good, the portion size was reasonable for the price, and the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunately, that is all the praise that I can give to George's. I ordered a surf and turf. I imagined a thick, juicy steak. The steak was very thin and was rather bland. My wife ordered a stuffed flounder, which I was initially impressed with, especially in comparison to my steak, but I soon realized was similarly bland. We came at the end of February. They didn't exactly have the A team working that night, but I'm worried that the service is even worse when they are busy in the summer. Our waitress, although friendly, was not terrific and seemed to need a lesson on how to be an effective waitress. If I had a dollar for every time she walked by our table when our plates were empty and at the edge of the table it would have covered the check. Even with better service, this restaurant was terribly mediocre and I wouldn't return.

I'm sorry to report that after years of visiting Georges each summer, this my be my last. The chowder from the take out window was basically water and potatoes with a splash of milk. No flavor, no clams. No thank you.

Dear Management, I have been coming by your restraint for over 40 years. It looks great. I desperately want your food and service to be good, but it isn't. We came in on Father's Day this year for BBQ. There was none. We stayed and ordered. The lobster bake for two seemed interesting. We inquired with the waitress about it and was told it was 39.99 the. She checked and it's 49.99. we decide to get it.. The. There is a question on how big of a lobster we want so we say whatever comes with it. Long story short the dinner for 2 is one 1.25 lobster. In hindsight it did not say twin lobster dinner but really??? The lobsters 100 feet away on the boats are 8.00. The sausage was horrible, several clams unopened. Really not worth it. My kids didn't like the kids meal which is too bad as we have a summer house 4 minutes away. You think after 40 years(for me) you would stop providing sub par food directed at tourists and provide some real quality dining??? That being said great place for drinks and apps. The bar has great views and plenty of beer and cocktail selections. I will go back because it's there and is in a great location. I just want it to be good.

Very surprised. Are here for dinner. Place was packed so we sat in the bar next to live music guy (who was pretty darn good). If you want fancy gourmet white-table cloth service, this place is not it. If you want great portions and fresh sea food, great view and good service this place is it. And here is an example of how the service was. Loved my conch appetizer and casually asked the waiter where it was from, he returned and said caught that day, Narragansett Bay, spot 4. Really loved it, would definitely come back!

It was my first time there. The food was very good but the service was most horrible! Our waitress took our order promptly, but it took 20 minutes to get a glass of water! It took 30 minutes to get her appetizers, after complaining to the waitress about their whereabouts. I would go back there, but I would be very careful on who was waiting on us.

  • Gina L.

I find George's tends to be hit or miss. I'm usually disappointed with the service I get there. We went there tonight for dinner, waited 20 minutes just to put our drink order in. The time before that, our wait was so long (1.5 hours to get our meals), that the manager personally apologized and credited our bill. The food is good, not great and the last couple of times it's come out cold. With that being said, they do have good fish tacos.

I went to URI and had one of the best meals of my life in May of 1994 - sitting on the patio, overlooking the ocean with steamers, clam cakes and bottles of beer. One of my fondest memories. George's has held up. We went for dinner last Saturday night and were told it was an hour wait. 30 minutes later we were seated (!!) and informed our waiter (Sean, great guy!) that one of the members of our party has a shellfish allergy (yes yes, I know - bringing a person with a shellfish allergy to a seafood restaurant?). However, the waiter immediately brought over Joe, the manager, who was charming, accommodating and made our visit a fantastic one. Our allergic member found food she was able to eat and enjoy and Joe spent plenty of time chatting with our group and just being all around great. The food was delicious (LOVE the clam cakes!!!) and we had a great dinner. Will definitely go back!

Great food, great view! See Brandon or Ellen at the bar, excellent place to watch sports. Highly recommend the stuffies but if you're from RI you already know that and now I just feel silly for mentioning it.

I have changed my view of this place. I used to consider this a dive and dread going here but I actually enjoyed myself. I am late in writing this review as I actually went here back in Auguest. Anyway here goes. Those local to the area will notice the upgrades across the board starting with the new patio, renovated interior, and upgraded menu. Now for the experience. After a long day on block island it was nice to get off the ferry and be able to relax with a beer on the new patio while we waited for a table. The new bar seems to be a hit as it was pretty crowded but we were still able to get drinks in a timely fashion. The dining experience was nothing to write home about with average service, food, and while it is close to the beach you should not expect an amazing view as it is obstructed by salty brine beach on one side and the ferry channel on the other. That being said the decent options in this area are few and far between. George's also offers the convenience of take out which can be enjoyed on the rocks along the channel. I have gotten take out in the past here and never been disappointed. In conclusion George's of Galilee is a safe bet for beach bums, island goers, date night, family dinner, or take out by the bay.

Take my word, the food here is amazing. We wound up at this restaurant because we chose to take an earlier ferry back from Block Island to grab dinner on the mainland. It seemed easier that way (and it was). Turned out to be the best decision we could have made! Granted, I'm from Chicago so our seafood game isn't that great... but I have trouble finding the words to even express how fantastic the food was here. I had fried calamari, stuffed flounder, stuffed shrimp, baked scallops, and a chocolate mudslide. Everything was fresh, delicious, and affordable. Nice atmosphere and decently friendly service. And I have to give a shout out to the awesome bartender who helped us end our experience on a great note! Five stars for sure.

Had a fabulous meal with my family of 12. Ricky the waiter handled is well! The white chowder is not creamy at all. More like milk broth. Clam cakes are very good. Had the pesto mussels served in a cream sauce. Also good.

Amazing clamcakes and lobstah bisque! And as a native Rhode Islander, I take my seafood seriously. They clamcakes weren't greasy and had just the right amount of clams in them. The lobstah bisque was good--not the best I've ever had, but it was good. We sat on the outside deck and had a nice meal--great views of the ocean. Our waitress forgot about us towards the end of the meal. We were going to order additional beers, but she was no where to be seen. I get that she probably had tables inside as well, but we were sitting there for 15 minutes just waiting, and waiting, and waiting. NOTE: It's annoying and borderline sickly to have the smokers right below you in the parking lot and to keep getting whiffs of smoke throughout your meal. It'd be nice to have a designated smoking area that wouldn't interfere with the outside tables who are trying to eat.

I had not been to George's in a while so when I saw they had a groupon deal, it was something that couldn't be passed up. A shared app, 2 entrees and 2 glasses of wine or beer. How can you go wrong? I was a little disappointed because the upstairs deck wasn't open yet but we were seated downstairs and were met with prompt service. We ordered the curry mussels for our app and they full of flavor and had a tasty broth. Now on to the main courses...we both ordered lobster dishes (since the groupon and our waiter said there were no restrictions). When mine arrived it was grilled as I requested but seemed to be a little over cooked. The claw meat and tail meat were okay but a place that specializes in seafood you would expect better. When it came time to pay we applied our groupon and when we received the bill we noticed we were being charged extra for the lobster dinners. We ended up speaking to the manager and explained that the groupon didn't have any restrictions and our waiter even confirmed this. After some back and forth they finally took the up charges off. In the end everything worked out okay but if we hadn't had the groupon uncertainly would have been disappointed overall. It might be a while before I'm back to George's especially given all the different options around the area.

I'll just start out by saying that I live in Newport, and wanted to come here for a breath of fresh air with some family members instead of having to deal with the nightmare that Newport is on a summer night. We thought the drive would be worth it, because we so love the area. The bar tender upstairs was super nice and it seemed like we didn't have to wait long before our party was called to our table. There was live music and a great family atmosphere. Right off the bat, I ordered my 13 month old a basket of fries so he could have something to entertain himself with, eat, and keep quiet while the adults enjoyed our drinks. Normally this is never a problem. Except the fries didn't show up until 45 minutes after we ordered them- and neither did our first round of drinks. The appetizers were delicious- calamari and clam cakes (hey I know you're not supposed to find any clam in them but they were tasty so I won't complain.) the waitress forgot three bowls of soup that were ordered- everything came out super late, poorly timed, and my salmon was so over cooked I think they were going for salmon jerkey.... I get it- it's the summer, it's crowded, most patrons are only tourists, bla bla bla... I really want to like this place but the restaurants in NPT just try so much harder and deliver a better experience for your money. My advice is to figure out what you do really WELL and stick to the basics even if that means a smaller menu. And for the love of all things holy, please hire a staff with more charisma and sincerity- our waitress seemed like she didn't care that everything was going wrong, or realize that it isn't supposed to take 45 minutes to deliver a basket of fries.

Monday night Volleyball! Super fun! Good food, good people and great drinks! Get the fish Tacos, they're always delicious. Also on Monday-Friday 3-5 it's buck a shuck oysters and little necks! So worth it

Very disappointing....quality and quantity of food not worth the price! I would not recommend it compared to the other options for seafood in south county.

I traveled from CA to visit family. Went to George's for some great seafood. Told the waitress I'm allergic to lobster, so please let me know if anything I order had lobster or lobster broth in it. Was informed by the manager that they would not serve me ANY fish whatsoever. I told her it was not life-threatening and that I would sign something saying I accept any responsibility for cross contamination. Nope. Could. Not. Order. Any. Fish. Not even clams or mussels that don't come in contact with anything. One might argue they were trying to protect me, but chicken can cross contaminate just as easily as cod. BS. By the way, the chicken alfredo tasted like crap. Never again.

Belated summer review: Spectacular views enhance your visit to this restaurant. A great way to eat and then go for a swim right after. George's is very convenient. The interior is very New England and so is the flavor. The food is fine, although charging an upgrade from chips to French fries is just plain stupid. Dispense with the chips- this isn't Subway! Drinks are three stars. Some are delicious, especially the Fish bowl drink, but they skimp on the alcohol and some drinks are small. Note to owners: you can charge those prices for drinks, but put alcohol in them. The service is always friendly, but has gotten progressively slower, owners need to hire accordingly during the summer. Restaurant is almost a four star and has potential to be five if it works on its flaws.

Went to the takeout window after a long day on Block Island looking for a lobster roll to take home. My only complaint is that they didn't have the right person at the register. The young lady was very nice, but did not know the menu or speak English very well. It was a bad combo for a busy evening. We got lobster rolls to go. Ate them the next day and they were awesome. I will stop there again and eat in. Might even get another lobster roll to go.

I am very sorry to have to write this review as I have been a loyal customer of George's for many years and always had a good meal and good service. I drove up from Charlestown just to have their steamers and Rhode Island Chowder. Unfortunately, the hostess wanted to place us at a table in direct sunlight and I requested an inside table. She was not friendly, nor even cracked a smile. My friend ordered a simple meal and I ordered my favorite chowder and steamers. She got her meal but I received food that I clearly did not order. He apologized, said "I will be right back" and 30 minutes went by. I asked (very nicely) the hostess to please check on my meal and waiter. The waiter was apologetic and said someone else had gotten my steamers. All would have been forgiven and forgotten had the restaurant been really busy and a bit of a wait would be expected but there were only 4-5 tables with customers, Wednesday at about 4:00......Rather than have to wait for him to "find" my steamers, I requested a simple cheeseburger with fries, which took about another 30 minutes.....by this time my friend's meal was cold. A neighboring table had seen and heard all of the interactions going on at our table and stopped by to ask me how I could be so patient, and that they would have gotten up and walked out if they were treated so poorly......Believe it or not, I still tipped the waiter, though not as generously as I ordinarily would. I will never go back there again, as I could have gotten a comparable cheeseburger at McDonalds.

Galilee in October is empty, but Coast Guard House (Narragansett) is still under renovation so we went here. I have been before but not for many years. I'm not a seafood person (gasp, lol) so I got the Jim Beam Bourbon burger - the sauce was delicious. It comes with chips, or French fries for $1 extra, sweet potato fries for $2 or onion rings for $3. I splurged for the onion rings even though $3 is ridiculous... So my whole meal was about $14.50. Most I've ever paid for a burger but it was very good. Service was also very good although the place was pretty empty, it was a Wednesday at lunchtime which I'm sure is why. I'd come back here again the next time I'm in RI.

I ate at George's this past Sunday because I had an expired Groupon that I wished to use. I'll be back at George's very soon. The food was fresh, well prepared, nicely presented on the plate, and reasonably priced. Our server was also attentive. I had the seafood casserole, and my husband had the rib eye steak. We shared the stuffies, and they were well-seasoned. The dessert was memorable though: a creme brulee cheesecake, which was served with dollops of fresh cream. slivers of strawberries, and a raspberry sauce. My only suggestion to the owner is that he should consider posting the specials of the day on either the restaurant's website or Facebook page.

Fresh steamers were tasty. The Clam Cakes were good, but can not have more than one, maybe two. Very fililng. Haddock sandwich was good. The bar staff was very friendly. Views from the upstairs bar area were very, very pretty. Would come back again.

Place has a nice view of the ocean but that's all it has. Had the lobster and rib eye steak. Lobster was very tough and sides were terrible. Canned veggies would have tasted better. Steak was dry and over cooked. Sent it back and got fried scallops but they were full of sand. Can not recommend this place. Gave two stars bc the waitress and manger were very nice. Only good thing about this place.

I was a little nervous about going to Georges. In years past it had been rather disappointing!! WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE!!! The menu has been redone, there was plenty of staff, the atmosphere was fun and beachy. AND THE SUSHI ROCKED!! The manager was gracious and attentive. For a 3 week vacation we brought many family and friends to Georges and had a blast each and every time! Thank you Georges for making our vacation memorable!

Went here last Friday night. Sat down around 5. Even though the place was not even half full we had to wait about 10 minutes to be sat down but no big deal, just annoying. There was 6 of us and we sat downstairs. While waiting for our waitress to come by and get our drink order, one of our party members began noticing flies. Like the big noisy ones. Before our drinks had even been ordered he had killed 4 of them. Gross. I split the Georges Calamari to start. Just be forewarned, just because it says sauteed, it's still fried. Banana peppers, onions, roasted red peppers and lots of oil made up this dish. The cocktail sauce for dipping was standard but overall I liked the calamari. Just too oily for me and I'd probably order something different next time. For my main, I ordered the seafood marinara. Mussels, shrimp and scallops over fettuccine in a red sauce with some garlic bread. Nothing to rave about. Scallops were tiny and most likely frozen as well as the shrimp. Mussels were clean (thank god!) and very good. The garlic bread was my favorite part of the dish. I tried someones lobster bisque and it had quite the strange taste to it. I still don't know why or what was causing it. I would like to say it was dill but I really don't know. Not really worth ordering. The service was good for the most part. Our server was efficient and accommodating. Minus the flies, I'd probably go there again.

I've been coming to George's for years, and they definitely have good clam cakes and chowder. I want my clam cakes fresh; not microwaved as they can be at some places. Fish tacos are pretty decent here. My review of four stars is based on the fact that you're at a restaurant right on top of the beach, and it is nearly impossible for them to mess up any seafood-fare. Yet, it's not my favorite place in Narragansett. The main dining room is usually where you'll find your families and the geriatric set. There is a smaller bar at the far end of the dining room with some seating available. There is also a nice little patio with seating that they added on a few years ago. If you're looking for a more vibrant scene, check out the upstairs. I say it's vibrant because there is outdoor seating and live music on weekends(great view of Harbor of Refuge, too). George's tends to attract an older middle-aged married couples. Not really too many of the 25-40 crowd.

My first visit in over 40 years. It was not as good as my memory. My waiter, Sean, was great. Food was mediocre. Clam cakes were all breading and no clams or clam flavor. Lobster salad roll was not very good. I got the RI version of clam chowder and it was good.

Brandon the bartender was great. Attentive and gave is good service. The Portuguese littlenecks were really good. We had two orders and the drinks were equally good. We'll come back. The views of the harbor are worth the trip.

I am writing this review to share my recent mind-bogglingly bad dining experience at George's of Galilee. It started as soon as we arrived at the lower level bar. I ordered a Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and the bartender informed me that they were out of the 60 Minute IPA and had not yet changed the tap handle to its replacement beer, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Not knowing the difference between the two, I ordered the 90 Minute IPA. As the bartender was about to pour my glass she said that she could only pour me 2/3 of a pint of the 90 Minute IPA. When I asked why, she said because it contained 9% alcohol and it was their policy to sell 2/3 of a pint of high alcohol beer. Are you kidding me - am I in Utah? Charge me more, do what you have to do, but I'm not buying 2/3 of a pint of beer. Ultimately, she poured me a full pint of beer, but she said that she only did it because my friends who were with me are regulars at George's. Quick notes: The bartender was very nice and a good bartender - she was obviously just following the rules of the establishment (more on that to come). The bar was not busy at all. For dinner I decided to order a steak. The menu lists a Grilled Rib-Eye entrée and a NY Sirloin Salad ("NY Sirloin Salad -- 6 oz char-grilled sirloin over spring greens, with roasted red peppers, red onion, cucumbers, grape tomatoes and crumbled bleu cheese -- $15.99"). For health reasons I don't eat fatty cuts of beef like Rib-Eye, so I asked if I could order the NY Sirloin as my main meal. I thought that this was a reasonable request as the sirloin steak was on the menu, but served on a salad. And I said that I wasn't looking for a larger portion and that I would pay a higher price if necessary. I also asked for a side of rice, which I said that I would pay additional for. This is where it gets really insane. The bartender told me that they couldn't alter the menu to accommodate my request. Keep in mind, all that I was asking for was a salad with steak that is already on the menu, but just hold the salad and a side of rice that I would purchase for "whatever they want to charge me" (those were my words). So the bartender went back to the kitchen and talked to the chef and reaffirmed that it was "not possible" (am I Switzerland now?). So my friends "the regulars" asked to see the manager and I explained the situation to her. She went to the kitchen and came back with the same response. I asked her why they would not accommodate my request and she told me that the chef spent a lot of time creating the menu and he would not make any changes/modifications. Really? Am I now in Paris? If you want to go to a place with rigidly enforced, ridiculous policies and an attitude that clearly treats the customers with less regard than the "chef", then I would highly recommend George's of Galilee.

The wait was crazy long. The clam cakes were the best that I have ever had. The seafood dill chowder was excellent. The regular clam chowder was way to thin (typical RI chowder). The entrée, roasted cod was cooked well but lacking flavor. The same goes for the mango salmon. It will be worth trying it again.

We come here whenever we're craving great seafood. The clamcakes are flavorful and not too greasy. The chowder & bisques can all stand alone - not too watery or creamy and of course, delicious! Of course the mussels and stuffies are always a great choice. The waitstaff have usually been attentive and friendly; if not too busy they'll chat with you. We always have a great meal and an overall very nice time.

Imagine this. You are sitting at a table in a restaurant and before you is a plastic bottle of store bought water. Your waitress is no where to be found and you are thirsty. So you open the bottle and drink the water. Gotchya! That will be $6.00! Or perhaps you want to swap out your standard fries for sweet potato fries. Gotchya again! That will be an additional $2.00! Here's the thing, I really don't mind the price tags, assuming I know them. There was no price tag on the water in the middle of the table nor was there anything special about it. Yet, that bottled water had the same price as a draft beer! I felt like I had been trapped into being overcharged. RIP OFF! Oh ya, the food. The clam chowder was a clam broth and little else. The fried clams ($21.99, with the secret sweet potato surcharge) were scrawny and amounted to little more than a handful. The turf part of the 'surf and turf' was very, VERY gristly. Oh well screwed again, I guess. But No! This time its different! This time I received a prior warning! Before we drove the 40 miles to George's Of Galilee we met a couple who told us to avoid it. In fact, they recommended a number of other restaurants in the area which they said were much better. They were so insistent on talking us out of George's, it seemed funny. Nope I wouldn't listen... I went to George's and now I'll join that couple in warning others to avoid, at all cost, George's Of Galilee!

In a nutshell: consistently the best whole belly clams I've ever had. Decent clam cakes and chowder. Nice view. Other seafood dinners (broiled scallops or fish) have consistently been good, as well. Recommendations: (1) whole belly clam dinner. (2) chowder - I get it clear (no milk). (3) come here instead of Legal SF

George's was awesome. Sydney, our server, took excellent care of us. The sautéed calamari she suggested was delicious. I will be back to George's to have it again! The fish and chips was both moist and golden brown. The draft beer selection was impressive, and our server knew all about all of them. In short: visit George's and try their sautéed calamari (and ask for Sydney!)

Dined last week and left very disappointed. The food was some of the worst I've had, I've had better seafood in the desert... I'm a local, and know the quality of food and service around RI, and this was an embarrassment to us and our dinner guests. The server was OK, but obviously a seasonal employee. No training provided I guess. I wasn't going to write a review until I saw the owner's commentary in today's Providence Journal. I'd be willing to bet that if he spent as much time sourcing fresh product and training his staff as he did complaining about paying his servers the restaurant wouldn't have 100s of bad reviews. Kevin, $30 for a bad stuffed lobster plate that costs no more than $10 to put-out, leaves you more than enough profit to run the restaurant, if you are still looking at "razor thin margins" then you need new management. Stop complaining about paying your employees and train them property instead, a good dining experience will result in more business.

This was our first time here, we were checking out places for vacation in RI. We got a free glass of wine which was awesome and our server was Sarah, she was so friendly and helpful. I don't really like seafood so I ordered a salad but it was good and the prices were reasonable. Overall it was a great time

Stopped in here today for lunch. Two of us had the fish taco appetizer which was two tacos filled with fresh broiled fish, cilantro, and slaw. Served with chipotle mayo on the side which was tasty. The other order was the fried fish sandwich. Huge portion with fresh chips and slaw. Fish was a little too fried and overly breaded but the roll and everything else were good. Private lot is a big bonus in this busy area. Fair prices and friendly service.

Ate here on the rainy July 4th, had lazy man lobster for 27.99 waitress recommend and friend had baked stuff shrimp The lazy mans lobster was to had 11/4 pound of seafood, upon arrival the was 1 scallop cut in half one lobster claw and one shrimp and lobster meat inside tail that had to be dug out very disappointing for the price and my friends shrimp was rubbery and very chewy , the bill came to 73.93 oh yes had a glass of wine n coffee asked for ice tea turned out to be instant could not drink! With tip 90.00 to say we were very disappointed would be an understatement cannot recommend to anyone!

I believe this place is under new ownership hence some of the previous highly negative reviews may be outdated. My wife and I went there on a weekday and the experience was just fine. Was the food super amazing - no but it was not horrific and I was satisfied. Now the place was not crowded so I'm unsure what it's like when all the tourists are piling in but based on my experience I would say it was just fine. The staff was friendly and quick. Standard food with no surprises.

we are from Seattle and come to visit the area every year and we need our clam cakes and 'chowda' fix. So far that's all we have had at Georges but we have never been disappointed and always greeted warmly by the staff. Great deal on sweatshirts right now!! 2 for 1 so rush down there while they have them. Grab something to eat and enjoy the view.

We arrived and we so happy to see an ample parking lot in a very congested area. Upon entering we were met with an empty hostess station...several "over served" patrons exiting from the stairway to the upper level informed us that "all the action is up there"...so up we went! We were greeted immediately and seated in a comfortable table with water and beach view. Also squarely located above the beach parking lot...but after a few minutes...you didn't even see it anymore. As I noted when researching George's...and almost decided to go elsewhere...it was in fact a good 15 minutes before any wait staff asked us for our drink or appetizer order. The deck had perhaps 5 other tables with very attentive service...I am thinking we were seated in a yet staffed station...when she arrived, she was great and very helpful. Started with the Rhode Island Clam Chowder - I chose with cream added...I always pepper my chowder, but this cup actually required salt too. Very much populated by an abundance of perfectly cooked - potatoes - an under abundance of clams. The overall dish was good, glad I only got a cup and not a small bowl or bowl - as it would have been all potato. My hubby's lobster bisque was tasty and somewhat thick...and devoid of any actual lobster bits...but satisfying. Next we order steamers and clam cakes (6)...The steamers and clam cakes arrived at the same time...the texture and flavor of cakes were evident...all CLAM!...Yippee! The steamer portion looked a bit small for the $14 price tag...but after eating the oversized clams...perfectly steamed an excellently seasoned...it was just right! Moving on to Lobster Salad roll with home made potato chips - hubby gave thumbs up! Home made pickle delish too! I had the Fried Fish sandwich with Orings...Fish cooked perfectly...however not North Atlantic haddock...a bit brown and yellow instead of nice white...texture of haddock...however, not typical. ORings were phenomenal. We NEVER take home left over ORings...took these. They are so nicely batter dipped and sweet onions...Awesome. I have only given them 3 stars due to the initial lag in service and the clam chowder and fish sandwich. While all very good...they were not top notch. View of beach and ocean and inlet amazing on a sunny afternoon. We will be back...luv it!

We go here every summer we're in the Charlestown-area. It's decent. Nothing special. In fact, I imagine it is that fact that has kept me from remembering to Yelp them after having been there many times. But, I've always gotten ok lobsters here. And, their stuffed flounder is one of the best I've had... I'd give that dish 5-stars. But, considering wait time, overall service, decor/atmosphere, other dishes, etc i have to go 3 stars. FYI for you DIYers out there: go to the docks up the street passed the ferry to buy the freshest lobsters straight off the boat for a good deal. Don't remember what I negotiated for, but I know I left happy with 6 lobsters. Be there around noon when the boats are coming back in.

I have not had a full dinner here in several years because it was just, well, not good. This year I decided to give it a try. We sat upstairs, Brian Scott was the entertainment. If I could give this guy 10 stars, he'd get it. I suggest looking him up online and checking out one of his shows. An amazing talent with a great voice! We ordered the Potato Skin appetizer. It was really good. It took forever to come out, and then after we had 4 bites, our entrees appeared. Not too pleased about being rushed, but at least the food was good. I had the seared scallops, which were wonderful. My partner had the Fish N Chips. Also wonderful. Cocktails were mixed nicely, and overall, it was a GREAT EVENING finished off by a stroll on Salty Brine State Beach, and a snuggle on a lifeguard chair! Try it out!

We ate here last night. I waited to post a review till I chatted with the others on the way home. This place is just okay. Very clean with lots of room inside outside etc... But there food was So-So inconsistent. Their lobster bisque had WAY too much herbs/dill in it ruined it. Mussels were good but lacked a little flavor. The steamers were terrible! Old, tasteless, just not worth it. I ordered stuffed Sole special to only find out 20 mins later they were out. After the terrible appetizers I said just give me BBQ wings for dinner. Those were actually good. My husband got "Lobster & Steak" this meal was $45 didn't come with a salad, choice of starch was Boxed mashed potatoes, instant rice, or French fries...... Really?! My husband wanted it so he got it and was disappointed as the steak no seasoning at all, instant rice (yuck) and paid for a small salad that was kind of joke but he said the best thing he ate all night was the mango dressing. Lastly, the drink my husband ordered was a Long Island Ice tea it was $9 and it had like NO alcohol in it. When we asked the bartender to remake the drink he came over to the table and couldn't understand what the problem was. To me this wasn't very proper. He should of just remade the drink and actually put some alcohol in it and laid off the sour mix. I honestly do not think if go back here is I visit Galilee again.

Every time we are in town, we never miss an opportunity to eat at George's. Never disappointed. Drinks are inventive and generous, food is solid and dependable and you cannot beat the view. This was my third in a month, the first the manager and one of the waitresses were rude so we only had appetizers and left. Second trip all was good and the swordfish and broiled scallops were wonderful. We went back for the third trip and we had to send the clam cakes back twice because they we cold and they were comped off the bill. The waiter Joseph was polite but not personable.

Can see why reviews are mixed. Great view and location, but no charm to the restaraunt itself. Almost like an a diner or Denny's. Good size menu- mostly fried food items. Decent beer selection. Was seated quickly and server was attentive. Food just mediocre.

Gorgeous view off the back deck. You get the beach view as well as the channel with all the boats and ferry's going by. The last time I was here the back deck was wide open but now it's crowded with tons of tables and chairs. There is a small area to stand/sit right at the top of the stairs though. I just came here for a few drinks and the view. The food is terrible and I would never eat here. Anyone who does is either a tourist or has horrible taste in food. The bartender at the outside bar was a miserable, mumbling old bag who is in the wrong business. She also pours a terrible drink. Come here for a quick drink and the view. Anything else and you'll be highly disappointed.

Went to George's the other night to meet up with friends and get a glimpse of the ocean. We sat in a quiet corner upstairs trying to give other people a break from the rukus we were about to create. Right as we got settled about 25 college girls came in and they had to seat them right where we were. They immedately recognized the situation and found us a new table to sit at to get away from the noise. This was greatly appreciated. The appitizers were all good (stuffies, oysters, steamers) and delivered promptly. Our server was good and checking up on us as often as you would need. She had a good attitude and was very friendly. When the trouble came she took all of the blame (which none was her fault) and was very apologetic about the situation Unfortuneatly, George's wasn't able to tell me they ran out of the Lobster Mac-n-Cheese until the rest of the plates were waiting for the server in the kitchen. Obvious break down in communication between the kitchen and the wait staff. The Manager came to the table and discussed the situation with me. he took his lumps very well (especially for a new englander) and in the end made up for it to the ENTIRE TABLE. He didn't just give me a free desert but actually comped everyone's meals. This was much more than I was expecting. Granted, it is prior to tourist season and we were obviously locally based so I am hoping he went out of his way due to this. Everyone else really enjoyed their food. Anyway, their ability to set things right will help convince me to go back and try that Mac-n-Cheese!

The outside view is beautiful. When you first walk in the people are so nice and friendly. They sat my boyfriend and I in a minute once there was no one really there at the time we went. I liked our waiter he was really nice and came over every second to see how we were doing. My boyfriend got a beer which he could try before ordering a whole one which is a good thing they do because you wont need to spend the money if you don't like it. I have been here years ago but they updated it since then and it was nice inside. The reason I gave it two stars is because when we ordered steamers the menu says right out of the sea fresh steamers. The steamers were literally from out of the sea! They were so sandy all we were eating was sand. It hurt out teeth and the taste was so horrible we at a few and couldn't eat anymore. I never been to a restaurant where the steamers were that sandy it was disgusting! I wanted white Clam chowder but the menu only said red and clear chowder. I asked the waiter if the clam chowder was clear only to make sure they didnt have white and he said yes. After I ordered my food the lady next to me said they had white, clear, and red chowder which made me upset because that is what I wanted. I don't think I will ever go back here and if I do I would never get the steamers again!

Having spent two weeks in Narragansett, I have been to George's 3 times (can't beat the location) and can now say with certainty: this place is a solid, middle-of-the-road, pretty good. Here we go: lobster bisque: delicious. creamy, visible lobster in the soup, and very buttery. straight-up win. Grilled Lobster: so worth it. you get the tail (split down the middle, grilled) plus both claws, and they dig out the inedible crap in the middle and fill it with shrimp and scallops. I certainly wasn't hungry after I finished. Baked Scrod with scallops: very good. Solid, fresh seafood. Crab cakes: my mom liked them; I thought they were ok. I like them a little crispier, but they were decently sized and had good flavor. oysters on the half shell: We were there for the buck-a-shuck special (which I just can't turn down!) and the oysters were decent. They had little bits of shells in some of them, but hey - I've had the same thing at the buck-a-shuck specials in fancier restaurants in Philly, so I guess I can't complain. And really, what do you want for a dollar per oyster? Clam chowda: Husband says it's terrific, but I find the dearth of clams in the CLAM chowder suspicious. I call shenanigans and say there should be more clams! Stuffies: more bread than anything else. again, suffering from the lack of clams in the clam-named item. what's up with that, anyway? Clam cakes: lighter than Champlin's, but heavier than Iggy's. again, suffers from the want of clams. Lobster Roll: They didn't grill the bun. seriously, who does that? fail. Here's a big check in the plus column: every server we had was terrific. They were all friendly, accommodating, and efficient. One night we were seated directly under the speaker and were very nice about it when we asked for a change of seat. If only they had more input in getting more clams into the recipes, that might be helpful.

George's definitely is one of our favorites when in the area. The view is crazy good from the upstairs deck and bar watching the water, boats, ferry, and the sunset. I was talking to our waitress, Kristin, about the fish and what was freshest for the fish and chips. She volunteered that a year or two ago, George's had a real problem with quality and they've committed to turning that around. On the menu is a certification (I think?) that George's buys local whenever possible. All I can say is my cod was beyond fresh - moist with a nice coating (could have been a bit crunchier, but that's me), with fries and a decent slaw. Extra lemon provided as requested. Hubby got one of the specials - shrimp jambalaya. Now as some of you know, we've lived in Louisiana and I'm pretty picky. But this was respectable. Flavors weren't quite deep and rich enough for a true cajun dish, but the shrimp were cooked perfectly and there was good flavor. George's remains on our go-to list when camping at Fisherman's or just in the area. It's relaxed, consistent and good!

We were told a 1 hour wait. It ended up being over 3 hours. They would serve some tables outside but not all. We sat at tables outside waiting for an inside table to be ready watching other tables outside order and eat. Then when we got inside the food was just ok. Half of the menu was not available that, not even pasta. Don't waste your time go across the parking lot to Champlians

Hands down the best clam chowder in New England!!! Awesome on a foggy day before getting on the Block Island ferry!

Located near the Block Island Ferry in Galilee, George's is an ideal restaurant to enjoy a meal and a drink after a long day in the sun. Their menus is extensive. I always ask the waiter to see what fish was literally caught that morning. The fresher, the better, right? George's was recently redone, with an impressive Outdoor Area featuring a fire pit. If there is a wait for a table, just grab a drink off the extensive drink menu and take a seat outside. My experiences at George's have always been good and I recommend going here to anyone in the area.

Typical over-priced touron fare. I should have had the fish tacos - two at our table had those, and they were pretty good. I had some bacon-wrapped bluefish special, and it was underwhelming.

Only sat at the bar and had some oysters and beer but it was a great experience. Bartender, Chris, was extremely friendly and on top of it. Oysters tasted fresh and delicious. Other members of my party had the Rhode Island clam chowder (clear) and the fish tacos. Both enjoyed their meals as well. Nice selection of beer on tap. Not huge but decent. Located right by the beach and ferry, its a good place to stop in. There is also an outside area where you can order at the window instead of going into the restaurant to eat.

Came here for a bachelorette party last summer. Wish I had reviewed it sooner after the fact, but I'll do it now that we are all gearing up for nice weather and seaside dining at venues such as George's. This is three-star-quality food spiffed up by the absolutely breathtaking location. Come for the seafood, of course--mussels (steamed in Narragansett beer - yum!), clams, shrimp, calamari, crab cakes, and clam cakes (a Rhode Island specialty). Other menu items are TGI Friday's-ish: baby back ribs, Caribbean chicken, tortellini alfredo. A decent selection of wines and bottled beers. We were a large group and tried lots of different dishes, including the sushi, and everybody was happy. What bumps it up to 4 stars is that, as I mentioned, we had a large group and were having a bachelorette party that involved a penis visor (not my idea). The waitress was toooootally nice and didn't get annoyed at us for even a single minute. Several people in our group had special orders/substitution requests and she was very nice about everything. We lingered for several hours and she didn't a) subtly pressure us to pay and get out of there, or b) ignore us. Nope, she kept checking back every 20 minutes or so and refilling waters well after we had finished eating. We were seated inside (with a "seaside retirement home" theme, as Alex P. aptly put it) on a gorgeous summer night, which was unfortunate, but that's what you get when you go with a big group. They seated us away from most other diners, so we could be a bit noisy without getting nasty stares, which was nice. If you go, though, I recommend sitting outside for the sea breeze and panoramic views of the ocean. It doesn't get any more New England than this.

We walked in the downstairs but really wanted to be on the deck. We understand that the outside seating was in high demand so we went upstairs. The upstairs environment was disappointing. It was not nearly as nice as downstairs in all aspects; furniture, structure, ect. The entertainment outside was also very loud. Should have just redone the whole restaurant. The food was quite good, not blown out of the water but it was pretty good overall. Our server Ashlyn was a very sweet girl and very informative. Overall good experience minus the environment upstairs.

George's of Galilee was pretty much what I expected it to be. As it was August when I visited and hadn't had a clam cake or lick of chowder since the previous season, it was time to partake in this New England tradition. Stopped by the take-out window here, late afternoon on a weekday. There was no line and we waited about 5 minutes for all our food. I ordered a half pint of white clam chowder ($3.29) and a 1/2 dozen clamcakes ($3.49) cause my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The clamcakes here are huge! I pushed through 3 of them before I had to close my grease stained white paper bag full. The chowder here was flavorful, creamy, and definitely hit the spot. The clamcakes on the other hand I found to be very doughy and while the pieces of clam were large, they were not plentiful. I've had better. . . If I return here in the future, I'll be sure to get more chowder in the chowder to clamcakes ratio of my next order. After enjoying the food in the back patio, we went upstairs to the deck to enjoy some drinks. My pina colada was less than up to par. While it was cold and icy, and in this way only enjoyable, the taste was comparable to a shelf bought pre mixed TGI Friday's type brand product (which is what it probably was). It's too bad because the atmosphere (with the private beach in view and salty breezes off the ocean) was one to have enjoyed a tasty mixed beverage. Staff was friendly and effiecient. Overall, an acceptable dining experience in Galilee.

I am very sad to write this....I grew up in RI, went to URI but we have relocated to CA. We stopped here on our trip home to RI for some good 'ol clam cakes and chowder and we were all sadly disappointed.... The clam cakes came after 45 minutes and we cold and burnt. One member of our party had to send their meal back for it was very cold. The service was slow but in her defense, I think she had a lot of tables to tend. It was all very disappointing...

I recently went to George's for a food and beer pairing dinner. The dinner was an excellent example of well thought out food accompanied with a matching beer. The food was fantastic and it was obviously carefully prepared. One of my favorite dishes was the handmade pretzel (as this was a German themed dinner). The cheese soup was also delicious. I look forward to more of these paired dinners which gave the chefs the opportunity to display their talents.

Saturday night we went here right off the BI ferry. What a mistake. We sat near the kitchen. We could see it was chaos in there. Took over 40 minutes to get 2 soups, salads & 2 sandwiches. Mediocre to sub-par & overpriced. Our sever was very nice. He was clearly doing his best in a bad situation. We will try Champlains next time, but we won't return to Georges.

Like the other reviews stated, the service ruins the whole thing. The food is good, but man do you have to suffer for it. I should have known that when it took the waitress 20 minutes just to take our drink order, it was going to be a long day. Over an hour later the food comes out. It was good but the kids were cranky, we had to ask twice for place settings... and the beer was flat. So there goes a hundred bucks and half my day. Thanks George's. Never again for me.

One star because zero or negative stars are not allowed on Yelp. seriously, wtf kinda restaurant business are they running hear. gross, gross, gross. slow service. the kid taking orders stopped taking orders...after 10 minutes we asked why he wasn't taking orders, he said they were backed up and had to catch up...morons. I guess they are cooking for upstairs dining area also. the fried clamcakes....3 of my friends returned the round balls of fried dough. 2 got their money back, the other got ck fingers. I got whole belly clam roll - smallest clams I'vew ever had in my life. perhaps they got them from a can. no taste, big fail. clam chowder - watery w/ potatoes and a few clams. had chicken stock taste to it. we got takeout and sat in outdoor picnic area next to a gift shop. never again...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...DO NOT GO...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. we even warned others in line not to get the clam cakes.

The location and private beach is enough for a three star rating. However, this was a roller coaster dining experience. First, the young group of hostesses were pleasant enough but since we were seated right by the hostess station, we got to hear their 19 year old conversations in entirety. Certain topics of conversation are not appropriate at work and sweetie, bragging about being thrown out of a Taylor Swift concert for underage drinking really isn't the topic you should have in front of a restuarant full of customers.I don't know what's worse....going to that show, or being dumb and drunk enough to get thrown out. Next topic. The chowder. Watery, and not at all what I had hoped for. I grew up in southern New England and have high expectations. I've had canned soup with more body than that chowder. On the pleasant side, I was greatly impressed and slightly horrified at the serving size. Two of us ordered fish and chips, and there was enough fish to feed the Duggar family. So, yeah, the prices are slightly lofty, but it's a beachy tourist , the food is good (with the exception of the lackluster chowder) and they definitely don't skimp on the plate.

Haven't been in years but went for lunch this past Sunday as I was in town. Overcast day so it wasn't too busy. This place is not fancy, but its got good food and a location right on the water. Lots of outdoor seating. We sat on a new patio toward the back or the restaurant. (New to me. Could have been there for years). We all had the same. Clam cakes and fish and chips. Fantastic clamcakes. Fresh fried, cooked perfect, big, and lots of clams. Haddock fish, big big portion size. Very good. Waiter was awesome. Attentive, great personality, honest answers etc. only complaint.....there is one hostess for downstairs and one for upstairs. We had to check with both to find outdoor seating. Odd. Seems they should work together and not like its two separate resturaunts. Also people should take priority over phone. This was not the case when we were there.

Been going here intermittently for 40 years. WORLD'S GREATEST CHOWDAH!! This only applies if you get the local stuff (I think they call it South County style or something) - for years it was all they sold, but if you REALLY have to gloop up your chowdah with Cow's milk (WTF?) or if you JUST have to pollute your chowdah with vodka-less bloody mary (WTF?), they will oblige, but... Real CHOWDAH is made from potatoes and clams and clam juice. Potatoes are OK because they just give you something other than the clam to munch on - know why vodka has no flavor? Cause it's made from potatoes. That's why potatoes are OK in seafood. Also, sand has no flavor, and real CHOWDAH like they have at George's has a little sand in it. Neither the sand nor the potatoes detracts from the flavor of the CLAMS which is what CHOWDAH is supposed to taste like. Now then, they also have the WORLD'S GREATEST CLAMCAKES which are fritters with clams in them. I know that because I went to college many decades ago in the midwest and ate a fritter and a light went off in my head "This is a clamcake but with no clams in it". They're very fattening - so is life, until it expires. Lighten up - figuratively. OK, for ambience, head to the deck up top and look at the young girls wearing those short-shorts with the fly undone (WTF?). Drink a Narragansett and solve the puzzle on the barmat (it's brewed by god knows who these days, but at least they brought the brand back - my first drunk was on Haffenreffer in 1976 and solving the puzzles on the inside of the bottle cap remains my only memory of that night. Yes, it's crowded. WTF? - you want to eat at Red Lobster?

Came here after a long day at the beach and my local friend recommend this place. You can eat in the restaurant or get take out and sit by the rocks across the street. He highly recommended the clam chowder and clambake. Ordered a pint of white clam chowder and it was water down. Lot of potato and few pieces of clam. Does not taste like anything at all and I even feel like canned chowder had more tasting than this. As for the clambake. This was my first time trying it and urgh. It's basically fried dough. There is not clam taste. I might have seen one or two pieces of clam in each of the dough. Never again. I have to say, the only good thing was the view. Across the restaurant and the parking lot, there are rocks that you can sit on and watch the sunset and boats passing by. But that's it.

Great seafood place right by the beach. Good chowder, good food, seafood prices. Also strong drinks. Recently renovated downstairs dining area.

Not sure why all the negative reviews, how many places are on the beach with a great view on a rooftop deck over looking the ocean watching all the boats come in and out of the port that serves up good drinks, has a huge menu and offers Sushi.

Waitress was nice. Oysters were fresh. That's where it ends for me. My clam chowder had maybe two tiny pieces of clams. and my clam strip roll arrived looking sad. Maybe 5-6 pieces of not even that wonderful clam strips. Noone in our party was happy w this place.
