I love Sonia' s! Their market is great to pick up middle eastern ingredients and at excellent prices!! I got a huge amount of poppy seeds here for way less than what I would pay at a grocery store! ! Their gyros and falafels are delicious! !!! My boyfriend enjoys their buffalo chicken salad too! !! The service is always good and they are quick! I usually call in my order to pick up and I usually arrive there before it's ready but they usually have it ready for me! I just hope their hours change as I can't get there before 6pm! :(

Best falafel sandwich I've had in Rhode Island (I had the 'Sonia's' falafel). Way, way more flavorful than East Side Pockets, The wrap they serve it in is more like lavash than pita- it's thinner, which is better, in my opinion. Amazing grape leaves, pretty sure they were homemade and not from a can, but either way- they were yummy, so not sure it matters. Really clean, really fast service, and the customer service was good, as well. This place deserves lines out the door. As an aside- the market has a lot great stuff as well- bulk spices, fava beans, olives, pickles... This place wins.

This place is just down the street from my house, and I often have to stop myself from stopping in for a sandwich. They have a great selection of sandwiches and everything I've had is delicious. Their falafel is very moist and flavorful, and their Mediterranean chicken wrap is one of our favourites. In addition to their deli, they have a small but diverse grocery section that is perfect if you're looking for Greek or Middle Eastern foods. It's one of the few places I've been able to find Kefalotiri cheese to make saganaki at home. Just dropped one star because of their hours - they often close in the early evening, probably because there aren't enough people in the neighborhood coming in then, so sometimes we're disappointed when we try to grab a sandwich for dinner. This neighborhood needs more places like Sonia's.

Sonia's is great! The sandwiches and wraps are delicious and the people at the counter are very friendly. A good local spot. Good food and good people preparing it make this place a spot i always like to visit. Tell your friends!

Love this spot. Consistently great wraps and Mediterranean grocery offerings. Try the Syrian wrap and get their Armenian string cheese for snacks later.

Smells wicked good when you walk in. Also, their hookah supplies are cheap. They have a special on Al Fakhar; 3 for $30. That's an amazing deal, trust me. Their coals are cheap, too - 72 pieces of Starlight for like $8. You can't beat that. The only thing that sucks is the small parking lot and the traffic around the area but that's not their fault.

I come here every couple of weeks to stock up on prepared foods that i can just take with me for lunch. The tabbouleh, marinated eggplant, tzatziki and grape leaves are some of the best around. Their baked goods are also excellent. They have certain pastries that really remind me of things I've eaten in Georgia (next to Armenia), like kada and mikado cake. They have boeregs and piroshki certain days of the week, and both are excellent. If you like Armenian food, this is the real deal. I've never gotten a sandwich or a lunch but it seems very popular with people for that purpose. Grocery selection seems pretty good, but is a bit pricier than other stores that stock similar goods. Definitely worth it for the prepared deli stuff though.

Just had lunch at Sonia's today. I split the "Appetizer Heaven"platter (aka mezze) with a friend. worked out fo 7.50 ea with a drink. we tried everything. GRape leaves, hummus. eaachh tabbouli grilled eggplant, grilled chickenpita chips and felafel. No room to spare for dessert. Blah decor, but the food is wonderful. I've been wanting to try this place ever since Rick Rabar featured them on his Chef2go program. The market was an adventure in itself. lots of fresh cheeses breads olives etc lots of enticing prepared frozen appetizers. Dirt cheap prices ( at least compared to Whole Foods ) on many hard to find middle eastern staples. The spice selection is aextensive and a very good deal as well. I will be back soon....with reinforcements.

I love this place! I am addicted to the stuffed grape leaves. I could seriously eat these all day, every day. I've had a few sandwiches too that were awesome. Falafel and a chicken one. Can't wait to go back!

Great spot near Rolfe Square! Immediately greeted, very warmly, right when I walked in and also cashed out by a gentleman who was so sincerely excited that it was my first time there and also about the menu items they provide. Neat little market of Middle Eastern goods right to the side of the order counter, to pass time in while waiting for your order, or add exciting take homes to your visit. I wanted to try everything on the menu and can't wait to come back for more! I settled on a (giant) Greek salad that was fresh and yummy. I think I will get one of the combo plates (with grape leaves, falafel, tabouli etc.) next. Perfect spot to grab a quick lunch/take out. The dining area is pretty plain and looks like a market cafe. Good space for the amount of people I saw coming in during this weekday off lunch treat!

I get the same thing every time - the Syrian Falafel. It is the perfect amount of spicy, involves crunchy veggies and herbs and does not have any of that soggy lettuce I usually dislike on falafel wraps. This is hands down one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. Also, the sides are really great - hummus, bean balls and baklava (if that can be considered a side). Because of the amazing food and friendliness of the staff, Sonia's is now a regular for me.

  • Nicole R.

Great selection of foods, spices, and sauces. Pita bread was fresh and the grape leaves were delicious. 6 grape leaves ended up costing me about $8 which aren't exactly the most budget friendly ones i've ever purchased but they were migthy good. So, it's worth it. Can't wait to go back.

This place has the best falafel in Rhode Island!! Very authentic dishes and a friendly staff - loved it!

  • Nicole W.

Their chicken & falafel wrap has to be the most delicious thing ever. That's what I think every time I order one, because in that moment it is truth. Really, all their wraps and salads are great to have and service is quick even when it's busy. There's also some regular prepared deli & bakery items you can get. I love their fresh stuffed grape leaves. Those are always a treat. Finally, the little attached market is just the type of thing that delights me. There's a wide mix of ethnic foods and not everything is middle eastern. There's a mix of Eastern European items and even some frozen Russian pirogi. I enjoy taking a few minutes to browse through everything.

  • Greg S.

I live right down the road from here but I've never tried it until recently. The food was really fresh, I got a wrap and a salad. The serving sizes are a good size too, I was stuffed. There's also an interesting little market inside too.

    (5)
  • Dan D.

I've eaten at Sonia's numerous times and their middle eastern selection of foods has been consistently top notched and ethnic tasting time and again. I usually get either their Mediterranean Sub, the Gyro, or the Felafel. I've gotten other sandwiches like their Reuben too which have been pretty good. They have a full selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads, a pasta and cheeses deli, and a market! Their market prices are decent and their selection is definitely ethnic and probably couldn't find the items at other places. We've bought a package of Ginger powder once and it was the most concentrated and potent ginger we've ever gotten! The staff are all always friendly, wifi access, music, TV with news on, and comfortable seating. Love this place and would recommend it to anyone!

Sonia's is a small market/deli located on Park St. in Cranston. Staff is very helpful and accommodating (family-run). They have a mix of near east items. I usually buy the Turkish/Persian items. I visit about twice a year (especially during Persian New Year) to pick up some specific items for the celebration. If they don't have something I want, they will find it for me and bring it within the week. We always get their spicy giardiniera, persian pickles, eggplant spread, basmati rice, and lavash bread. They also have a large variety of spices in large quantities. Lots of near east candies and sweets as well. Great place to go to buy some appetizers for a party. There is a deli connected to Sonia's which serves amazing sandwiches. Prices may be a bit high, but you're paying for the convenience of not having to drive to Boston!

  • Kat S.

Came here with my boyfriend on his lunch break. I got Sonia's Falafel wrap and he got the reuben. The falafel wrap was delicious but not as spicy as I usually like. The reuben did not have any sauerkraut which was unusual but not bad. Both our orders came out fast and tasted very fresh. The restaurant was brightly lit and very clean. Prices were reasonable. I did not explore the small store to the side of the register but I would love to on a return visit.

Best Falafel wraps around. Nice, personable staff. Good prepared foods, and a pretty well stocked little market section.

Very happy with the customer service. The 2 workers were very down to earth and appealing. Smelled very good in the place and the chicken falafel wrap was amazing. Looking forward to trying other stuff on the menu.

This place is fantastic. I am from the area and always knew of this place but never tried it and I am glad that I did. I have been looking for a gyro that rivals East side pockets and I have found it, possibly surpassing it. The staff is friendly and I haven't had anything I don't like. They have excellent Italian grinders, the classic beef wrap is also unbelievable. Go there and eat, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious & always fresh food. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We live on the other side of Cranston and still frequently pick up lunch/dinner here versus closer establishments. Everything I have ever ordered has been great!

Delicious food and great service! Everyone who works there is wonderful and they really get to know their consumer. The food is delicious and everything always smells so fresh and authentic. The middle eastern grocery selection is also great. My family goes every weekend!

Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about. The falafel is SO good, I find myself thinking about it all week. I know I need to try something else on the menu, but FALAFEL! There's also a whole middle eastern market attached with all sorts of hard-to-find goodies.

  • Rob Y.

I am so happy this establishment exists. They do it right and I've never been disappointed in all my visits. It's not easy finding good Armenian food around these parts, they've made that task easier.

  • D G.

Authentic middle eastern food in a casual family friendly setting. Many of the folks behind the counter are family members. Talk with them. They are funny, friendly and are happy to help offer suggestions on their favorite foods, some of which are not on the menu, but are available if you ask. The food is homemade, fresh, light and delicious. Great humus, stuffed grape leaves, and falafel are some of my favorites.

Never had a bad experience! Food is great and the prices are great too! Ive'd lived less than mile away for 7 months, and I don't know why I didn't go sooner! Great, fresh menu items too, not just middle eastern either, the Italian sub is amazing.

  • Greg N.

I'm so apprehensive to review this place as I don't really want to make it any more popular than it already is. A lunchtime favorite in my office, Sonia's is a tasty, quickish, relatively healthy alternative to many restaurants in the PVD area. Part restaurant, part deli, part grocery store, Sonia's crams a lot of business into this former gas station. I am a total sucker for the Chicken Falafel Sandwich (which is really a wrap). Their falafel is perfectly cooked, crumbly, and just right. My only beef with this place is that it always feels a bit rushed. The seating is a bit lacking and it always feels like everyone is ordering all up in my business. If I'm looking for a quiet lunch away from my desk, this is not my first choice. Otherwise, this place is awesome.

For weeks I have been craving a good Greek meal. I've really wanted Moussaka and Avgolemono, but I would have settled for some Grek style lamb if I could find a decent Greek place around here. On my endless Yelp search for one, I came across Sonia's Near East Market and Deli. One afternoon when I was around the joint I stopped in and hand a lamb gyro. Let me say this: there were tons of things on the menu that sounded and looked divine, but since I had my mind on Greek style lamb, that is what I ordered. The gyro was okay. I think Eastside Markets is better. The lamb tasted majorly processed. I would only give it 3 stars. The rest of the gyro though, and the falafel was great. I bought a few things too from the market side and they quality has been amazing. I will o back here and try some other things and especially their delicious looking salads.

  • Chris P.

Absolutely hands-down the best sandwich/wraps place. Good prices too! Great Mediterranean selections. I've tried 5 of the different wraps, all amazing. Better than East Side Pockets for SURE! Its also a very clean place with super friendly staff and they have a little shop in their restaurant as well! MUST MUST MUST TRY.

I am glad to find a market that sells traditional items such as white cheese, black and green olives, grilled peppers, yufka (pastry), bulgur, Turkish tea, yogurt and many others in RI. The stuff is very helpful and very friendly. Sonia's place worth to visit.

    (4)
  • James N.

I love falafel wrap and theirs was very good however east side pocket still is the best. It's also a hassle to get to from Cranston. I will be going back because they have some great sandwiches on their menu. They also have some wonderful other surprises in their store. I highly recommend you should stop in and take a look. You will not leave empty handed.

Still love the food, but they stopped delivering to me. They told me me orders need to be at a 30$ minimum for delivery.... Haven't ordered since :(

  • Kyle C.

Hands-down, my favorite deli in the neighborhood. The only place I go to satisfy those all-to-frequent falafel cravings that are rarely satisfied in the state of RI. The "Sonias Falafel" is loaded with "the works", so to speak. Hummus, tabouli, tzatziki, tomatoes, hot peppers, etc... How they wrap it up so perfectly can only be the result of years of practice. I personally like to get mine on a wrap instead of the thick pita bread (a "less guilty" alternative suggested by one of the members of the friendly staff). Wash it down with a strange, exotic Middle-Eastern beverage- like mint flavored milk- and you're on your way to the true Sonia's experience! In addition to falafel, there is a full-on Middle-Eastern/ Greek deli here, and a very impressive import market. They even sell hookahs. The prices on spices are unbeatable- and the quality is typically much fresher then grocery store items. Lastly, there are a couple two-top tables out front during the summer. A great place to sit, enjoy lunch, and take-in the bustling cultural anomaly known as Park Ave. Highly recommended!

  • Camille M.

Really delicious prepared Middle Eastern foods as well as a small market w Middle Eastern specialties. The stuffed grape leaves are absolutely amazing (I am totally addicted) , as are the spinach and meat pies, and sandwiches. The food is always fresh, and the service is very friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable, and so happy that they deliver!

Sonia's is such a find! I had never heard of it but found it, of course, on Yelp. We walked in and there are all these exotic looking fruits and spices, and a small little grocery section with some neat goods. We asked the man taking our order what he would recommend, and he proceeds to bring out three samples of freshly made deliciousness (e.g., falafel, Armenian sweet bread, and fresh dates). All amazing! My boyfriend had the falafel with chicken, which he devoured. I got the gyro which was also phenomenal. We will definitely be going back to explore the menu a bit more. Additionally, the prices were EXTREMELY reasonable, and the men working there were friendly, outgoing, and more than happy to let us taste different items.

  • Kaitlyn B.

Sonia's is absolutely amazing. I've loved everything I've had from here. i used to work a half mile down the road and I've probably had almost everything on their menu. Never had anything from the market area but, I'm sure it's good. Would certainly recommend.

So, I stopped in here the other day on a whim and was quite impressed with all the great things they have. Breads and all sorts of groceries that look delicious. I only tried the falafel but man was it good. Spicy and rich with a great tahini sauce to match! Perfection, I can't wait to go back to try more!

The best sub rolls in Rhode Island. The roasted eggplant and grilled chicken sub is delicious. I recommend that you call in your order as the staff can be somewhat disorganized but they are very friendly. Sonia's has some of the best sandwiches in the state.

Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday. Had the wonderful Sonya's Falafel sandwich and a side of Eech. Both great. Also purchased a few sweet treats from the grocery. So nice to find a quality meal and a nice shop where the folks are friendly, committed and know what they are doing. I will be back.

Ok so finally I decided to write a review for what I must say is the best deli I've ever been to! My favorite is the kalamata red pepper chicken wrap, super delicious and never ever any different from the last time. Service is always great too! Wishing they had other locations, but whatever I'll drive if I have to!

I recently hired Sonia's Deli to cater a family event. We ordered the sarma, yallanchi, kadayif, and lulu kebabs. Everything was delicious. Delivery was on time and everything arrived hot and ready to serve. Sonia's even provided us with ceramic dishes to serve the food in as well as attractive serving spoons (so I didn't have to use plastic ones!). I highly recommend Sonia's Deli catering services and will definitely be using them again.

I'm so thankful that I've found a deli in Cranston that is reliably open and delicious! I'm tempted to pull in here anytime i drive down Park Ave. Great for middle eastern foods or just a great deli sandwich. Quick, friendly service, a great, clean decor and seating area, and lots of other goodies to tempt you along the way. Love how they are a deli but also sell bulk items, desserts, some fresh produce, imported candies, cookies, and random other things.

A great little deli/grocery store, it has a small section for eating-in. Really solid on all the basics - hummus, Jerusalem salad, zaatar bread, falafel, etc. I had the appetizer sampler, wife had the chicken/falafel wrap. We both agreed that it was great. The guys were really friendly. Wish I lived closer.

The first review said it all! I'd like to add that they have Boar's Head deli products, and do a great Falafel and grape leaves. The Baklava is excellent. The cafe area is clean and cozy, as is the entire store. Nuts and chocolate covered pretzels are way cheaper here than at Whole Foods too. East Side Pockets, watch yer ass!

What a find -- a Middle Eastern oasis in Cranston! Who knew? This abundantly-stocked deli & market serves wonderful, affordable delicacies imported from Armenia, Greece, Syria, Russia, and Turkey. The deli is packed with delish Mediterranean sandwiches but you can get a tuna or roast beef as well! Great prices at about $7.00 each. The market is packed to the gills (herring too!) with bulk feta, Armenian string cheese, greek-style hard cheeses and other cheeses with sheep, goat or cow's milk. The Greek olive bar is $4.99 per lb. as opposed to Whole Foods' $11.99. There are jams, candies, Za'atar, homemade pita chips, luscious dates, dried legumes (about 1/4 of the price of WF), yogurt, grape leaves, and even caviar. I know where I'm going when I have to host the 12 folks in book group next! (The Armenian owner told me he has 2 separate bookgroups who have their meetings there every month.) I can't believe I've driven by this gem so many times on the way to The Artist's Exchange and never stopped in! Plan to make up for lost time.....

I'm pretty sure I grabbed a sandwich when I ate here, it was nothing memorable. I will say that I am willing to give it a second chance because my first experience was slightly rushed and I believe in second chances.
