Really great restaurant! Delicious gluten free pizza with vegetables! Newly changed their dough and it is one of the best I have had. The calzones are always very good, as well as the regular pizzas. The pasta dishes were tasty and a hit at the table. The waitresses were so friendly and kind, especially for a table full of babies/toddlers. They were so welcoming and attentive throughout the evening. Overall, a great and refreshing experience at a staple Italian restaurant in Cranston.

Huge portions and the food is always great! This is usually a lunch time stop for a group of us from the office. I'm glad we stumbled on to this place. The hospitality never disappoints, the wait staff is always attentive and receptive of your needs. I've never been there for dinner but the atmosphere is traditional italian, I always feel welcome. There is a small bar with a decent selection. Definitely worth a try if you've never been.

Newer to Cranston, tried a few times and sadly it is never consistent. Pizza is 'ok' but the final straw was when we ordered a take out veggie calzone and found a VERY long piece of jet black hair when cutting down the middle....never again!!

The chicken parm is not breaded! Who does that??? It's awful - don't order it! The soda is always flat. The salads are awful. The pizza is good and the calzones are good, that's it! The inside needs a make over too. Calzones or Pizza - Don't bother with anything else.

OK, let's level set people's expectations of this place. Campanella's is not a gourmet Italian bistro - not even close. If you go out of your way to eat here expecting white glove service and innovative gastronomy, you are going to be extremely disappointed. If you're looking for an "eatery," you should probably avoid Campanella's altogether. Campanella's is a divey, casual, neighborhood Italian joint. The service ranges from friendly and attentive to surly. The portions are generous, and the food is basic: pizza, pasta, calzones, sandwiches. It's not fancy, not is it particularly healthy. If you're on a gluten-free diet, don't come here. You'll be able to eat the salad (you'll have to pick out the croutons). There's no fancy wine list, or craft beers. Have a Gansett, or the house red wine. All that being said, for what it is, Campanella's is a decent little neighborhood Italian joint.

Stopped in here to grab to-go this past Thursday. I don't order here super frequently, but I do love their pizza and calzones with choices of white, wheat or seven grain dough. They have a take-out only special two-fer deal Tuesday through Thursday - two large cheese pizzas for $14.99 with an additional $1.25 a topping. Makes for a cheap dinner with plenty leftover for lunch the next day. Crust is the thicker variety with a nice crispy underside. The cheese can be a little lean but the other toppings are always generous. I usually do take-out but the dining room is nice with a bar that always has a few people enjoying their meals with a beverage. The bar would make a nice spot for a quick bite before a movie on date night or for a meet-up with a couple of friends. Service can be spotty. The good waitstaff is great, the mediocre staff is, well, mediocre. Take out window is well-run. I stand by the two-fer deal as a great reason to check this place out.

Place is horrible.. The owners are what ruin this business. Everyone is so RUDE and the food is nothing to write home about. They always do have a full parking lot but makes me wonder because it's never really packed inside. Many other better places on oak lawn to try!

I was highly recommended by coworkers to try out this Italian eatery in Cranston. Expecting amazing Italian, my husband and I trekked a pretty good distance to get here. Once here, we concurred on how the location is really poor. It seemed to be in the middle of nowhere on a sad looking street. The decor was extremely bare bones with picnic-style, vinyl-covered tables. We were very underwhelmed by the uninspired menu items as well. They appeared to include garlic bread, pasta, pizza, hot grill sandwiches, and calzones...all basic and nothing gourmet. Almost all of the appetizers were just different variations of garlic bread. We figured that garlic bread must be popular and good here, so we ordered some topped with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, and melted cheese. Okay.. I must admit that these were delicious! We both ordered wheat calzones with broccoli 'n sausage or chicken 'n sweet peppers, respectively. We appreciated how the calzones weren't too doughy and the bread itself seemed very fresh and thin. The calzones were enormous, though, and could really be split into 2 meals each. Overall, although the menu seemed boring, we were satisfied with our meals. I'm not sure we would ever come here again, though, as the food didn't seem worth the drive.

Owner yells at children. Waitress cannot take an order correctly. Not good pizza. Drive by quickly. Nasty.

I love Campanella's! I used to work right across the street and ordered from here several times. The food is delicious! I absolutely love their calzones but have also had their pizza and antipasto. All of which were really good. They have really good salad dressing and their sauce is very good. I highly recommend eating here!!

I've been here now half a dozen times between eat in and take out. It is convenient with decent parking and about 25 tables and a full bar. They also have a counter dedicated to take out. I find the food to be basic with one stand out exception. Their bread for their sandwiches is very good. They toast it up and it is crispy on the outside with a soft warm center that soaks up the sauce. The calzones are made from the same dough and are good as well. Beyond that the menu is limited and basic without much innovation. All the appetizers except one are garlic bread based. They always seem to be busy. The service is not great (though Candy does a very good job). Overall, a good value.

Hit or miss, been here plenty of times we come back for the food. The pizza specifically and garlic bread are great. Drinks are pricey and they do not include refills! It's clean/modern and has a full bar/family seating. Wait staff are iffy depends who you get and the busier it is the more service you get...odd i know.

Olive Garden, is like CampaNellas! The parking lot is full of cars, but everyone knows it's not Real Italian Food within....or maybe not?? But who cares..LETS EAT! Campanellas staff wouldn't give a rat's patootey about any of this if the food were any good. Getting the positives out of the way, we will admit if you have to eat at a non-chain owned, Italian restaurant.Campaellas does a good a job as any in making you feel welcome and comfortable. The booths and tables and chairs are big, spacious, well-appointed, and a step up from other franchised-frippery. Dark wood gives everything an old-world feel, and the place settings and stemware are also a notch or three above other similar restaurants. Service was spotty at our lunch here, food came in drips and drabs! Our server for this meal couldn't have been nicer, faster, smoother or more informed than if she had been working at Spago or Le Cirque. Unfortunately, most of the food she served us was utter dreck. The highlight of the meal came early. A cheesy pizza...sauce actually possessed some taste, along with big, spicy pepperoni, that was a bit undercooked for us. From there everything devolved into what you would expect from a Olive Garden Our salad was dressed with a strange, liquid, light to the point of non-existence. It was devoid of both oil and vinegar, yet claimed on the menu to contain both. "Well, that's probably what passes for a vinaigrette in Vinegaroon," here in Cranston. From there we continued to something called "Pasta " that was WAY overcooked and mushy! ,,,topped with crudely cut chicken strips and chunks, and canned mushrooms,"Ah," we conjectured, "that's probably what they think is good meal in Cranston. We let ourselves be talked into a Calzone-- basically mushy crepes wrapped around sloppy spinach-like mush of pre-chewed, toothless food into which a few bits of sausage had been thrust. "Gosh," we garbled. "We don't like it, but this just might be considered great in Cranston." Or maybe not. After a few more bites, we decided to re-christen Campanellas The Home of Mushy Eye-talian food that could'nt! We highly recommend it to those who want to eat Italian food the way it will taste when they are 90 years old, at death's door, and being spoon fed by a minimum-wage orderly who also changes their diaper. BIG THUMBS DOWN!

It's ok... Apparently a spin off of the Big Cheese. But def doesn't even compare. Salad dressing is worse, crust not as good, and the service was poor & slow. If you want my opinion, drive the extra 10 mins to the Big Cheese!

Very nice local place with very good food. The service is poor, especially on busy nights. I know enough to order as soon as they come over. The pizza and pasta dishes are priced right and taste great. It's worth a try!

Terrible service. Owner is a jerk. Pizza is terrible. Owner yelled at my 1 year old for touching his blinds. Made her cry. Waitress said he hates kids.

First time. Glad we picked it as we drove by. Food is awesome. They make their own bread, butter, pizza dough, and rootbeer. Chicken parm I ordered was amazing. The sauce was great and the chicken was baked not fried. My wife got a pizza and I tried a slice. I wish I ordered pizza instead. Best pizza Ive had in years.

I stopped in here one night last week with the whole family. It was a bitterly cold January night, and as we walked in, the warmth and smells were very welcome. The interior was cozy, reminding me of Uncle Tony's but a half-notch better. Service was amazing. Our waitress was a slightly older grandma-type who certainly knew the menu. She doted on the kids, and her suggestions for entrees were informative. We had a calamari appetizer - other places can sometimes overcook it, making it too rubbery, but here it was just right. We ordered pizza for the kids, half pepperoni and half spinach. It was a surprise hit because sometimes they can be rather finicky with their toppings. The crust was very nice as well. We also ordered a chicken parmesan, which wasn't breaded, but still flavorful and very much enjoyed. The tomato sauce was unique and tasty, almost a prerequisite for a good review because it's sometimes the only distinguishing criteria for Italian restaurants. We finished with a shared dessert, a peanut butter concoction from a Bindy's menu. It was okay but not memorable. I've seen a lot of other negative reviews of this place, but I encountered none of the problems discussed by them; in fact, I experienced the opposite. I'm not one to rave on about Italian restaurants, but this place won me over.

After hearing that campanellas is the daughter of the big cheese I had to try and see if it measured up... Whenever I go to big cheese I get the same old thing- the salad with tuna. I tried it here at campanellas and hey, it was just as good! Their dressing is my absolute favorite, and I took some home with me too. My son loved his pasta and my boyfriend got a grinder and he said it was good too! I must say the other great part about our visit here was our waitress, Candace. She was super sweet, friendly with my son... And went the extra mile with everything... By far the best service ever. We'll be back!

I stopped in for dinner with my family on Saturday night with a few guests and wanted to share my experience on Yelp. It was absolutely amazing! The restaurant had a fairly basic menu specializing in Calzones, Pizza and Pasta. I've been to countless restaurants like this, so I didn't really have any lofty expectations. At the beginning of the meal, we were served home baked bread with a unique butter that was hand-whipped with honey. Very unique and absolutely amazing. I looked around at other tables and saw other standards - chicken parm, spaghetti with meatballs, calzones, pizza, etc. The actual food, portion sizes and presentation were impressive and extremely appetizing, We ended up ordering a few pizzas along with a few pasta dishes to try. Everything was perfect...from al dente pasta to the crisp yet chewy crust on the pizzas. The "Dean's Favorite" pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. This is not a "fine dining" experience, but hearty, home cooked and delicious comfort food. The restaurant interior was very clean, the decor was updated and the general ambiance was very cozy and inviting. The wait staff was attentive and friendly as well. We really enjoyed chatting with the owners, who were very warm and happy to answer our questions about the food and the restaurant in general. Overall, we couldn't be more enthusiastic about recommending this place. The only downside to our experience is that we want to be regulars here but live all the way in New Jersey!

I work in Cranston in a gourmet restaurant and had asked my co-workers where there was good pizza in the area. They each told me of different places near the restaurant, but no one mentioned Campanella's. I tried all the places that they mentioned over the next couple of weeks, but was not impressed with any of their suggestions. Finally, one night I was heading home, driving down Oaklawn Avenue and spotted this restaurant. I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Campanella's is a quaint little eatery with standard Italian fare, friendly service and quality for the price. I really like their thin crust pizza, it has a very flavorful sauce and the crust is crisp and tasty. But it's the calzones that you come here for. They offer many different choices and after trying one the other night, I can see why they won Best Calzone in Rhode Island a few years ago.

The take out is fast and efficient. The pizza is good but they are just too small for the price.

I went with a friend because she had long had this on her list of places to try. It was a nice place with a lot of seating. And there certainly seemed to be people coming and going. The food was fine and we both enjoyed it. I did think it was odd when my friend was served a store bought dessert not a home made one and that it was served in the store packaging with the lid removed as opposed to being replated.

The menu doesn't offer a huge selection, but what they have is good. I met the owner at a store I used to work at, he told me to stop in and lunch was on him, he was true to his word! I had a calzone made with whole wheat dough which was delish and he also gave me a bottle of the house dressing which was also delish. I returned once more and had a pasta dish that was overflowing. As long as you are in the mood for the limited menu, then this is a place to go. I have no complaints.

Family friendly fun pizzaria with clean booths and great atmosphere. The calzone's are a meal! The takeout salads are fresh and huge with a great italian dressing they make there. It is like homestyle italian cooking with familiar ingredients you can trust. It was a great place to go to eat after doing Route 2 errands.

I would give this place 1 star but I've been forced to eat Italian food in Santa Barbara. My former place of work used to order from Campanella's and I always found the tomato sauce to be low quality and lacking freshness. If you're not using fresh tomatoes or san marzano tomatoes, or at the very least canned Italian tomatoes with less than 2% salt then you shouldn't market yourself as an italian restaurant.

  • Robert M.

Okay, so this is a guilty pleasure that is not very high brow. I really like this place (about 3.5 star) because they will make anything into a calzone and they are not afraid to dump a salad on pizza for the vegi crowd, hand them a fork and tell them to have at it. So I did mean what I said about the Calzon's. They have like 20 on the menu. Then, they will also make any grinder into a calzone. I also saw a huge salad walk by they the waitress pointed out was a pizza. Freeeeeakkkkky. This is not for the RI Italian snob's, this is for the folks that just love to go someplace that has great friendly service, good solid quality food and food bill that will not drain your account. If you are a food snob, move on, if you have an AMEX Gold, head to the other joint on the hill, if you love being treated like dirt, go to the place by the river. If not, they will welcome you in here.

Tonight was the first time there and we were greeted with the most friendly waitress! Her name is Cindy!! She was so excited we were new.. she explained the homemade bread and gave great advice. We had a steak calzone with was delicious! We will def go back on a friday night to visit my new friend Cindy!!! Great JOB!!

I have lived near his restaurant for 5 years and I cannot understand who is going in there! My husband and I took a group of our friends there years ago and I was shocked at the smell when you walked in. It does not have an Italian restaurant smell, more like a barn? Pet shop? Whatever it was, it didn't smell appetizing. We ordered pizzas and pasta and none of it was good. The pizza was hard and flakey, the chicken parm and pasta tasted like a TV dinner. They must also be a horrible company to work for, because there is a help wanted sign out in front every other week.

Great place for takeout. Also a great place to go if you want a decent meal that won't break the budget.

Great food....the exact menu as Big Cheese on Reservoir Ave, which has been around much longer. The only difference is the hospitality.... Campanellas is not the friendliest place. For take out you can't use debit cards unless its over a certain limit. Bartenders have no clue about beer or cocktails. And ownership has no problem if you never return. So do not cause any problems and go to Big Cheese.

They have THE BEST calzones! The stuff greek completely rocks my world. Love love love.

How can one not love Campanella's? My partner and I have been visiting this restaurant for many years, and though we no longer live in RI, we make a point to stop in when visiting the state. I always "make my own calzone" and my partner always gets fish. It always comes out fantastic. And don't forget the fresh bread with the sweet butter, a nice glass of wine and the Italian Wedding soup. I'm salivating just thinking about it. As Arnold says: "I'll be baaaccckk"

    (4)
  • Mike P.

The venue is nice and parking is convenient. My wife's greek salad was fresh and the soup appetizer and bread were good. My chicken parm was ok but the sauce tasted like something out of a can. The gelato dessert was ok too. Nothing memorable but overall a decent meal for the price.

  • Jacqui G.

Campanella's is packed most nights and for good reason. The food is delicious and well priced. It's a nice family restaurant. I like it here and don't mind the sometimes bossy waitstaff but I could see someone not from "Western Cranston" taking this regional attitude the wrong way. Believe me, they're not rude, they're just Italian American. I always build my own calzone, but the pasta dishes are all really good too. My advice is to order the bread sticks. Hands down the best I've ever had.

    (4)
  • Hilary H.

I go to Campanella's a lot with my parents and sit at the bar. The bartenders are very attentive and hilarious. I haven't ordered one thing on the menu that I didn't like. But, the stuffed Greek is out of this world. Definitely recommend it!

    (5)
  • Jake P.

The worst pizza place in RI. Nothing about them is good. The wait staff is by far the worst. I ordered a cheese pizza. Simple Right? They gave me it with Pepperoni. I didn't want it. So I told the waitress. She said to me: "can't you take it off?" Don't waisted your money. The owners a ass. Don't waste your time there.

    (1)
  • Matt K.

I don't eat in here, but my family and I have been getting takeout for years from Campanella's. This is my favorite pizza in the world. I can't explain why it's so good, but there are spices and a blend of cheese they use that just make this place so unique. The eggplant parm and lasagna are equally as incredible too. My friend's wife makes one of the beat lasagnas around, and her comment was: "I think Campanellas' rivals my lasagna". Now THAT is an endorsement,...trust. I see YELPers complaining about the chicken parm; if you want chicken parm, go to The Post like a real Rhode Islander, son (#shotsfired). For pizza, eggplant parm, and lasagna, I couldn't recommend a better place. The calzones and sausage & rabe are tops as well. When I find out that I only have a week left to live, I'm figuring a way to get takeout from here before that week is up. Campanella's is special.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
