Went here for anniversary dinner. First time at the new location, hadn't been to Roberto's in years. I like the new place, much better layout. Food was as good as I remember, everything prepared really well. So, why three stars? The service was pretty bad. Not at the level you would expect for restaurant of this type. Our waitress went MIA... Our food was delivered by other servers. I believe she was distracted by friends at the bar. After waiting for a while, I got up and tracked down the hostess to request our check. Should not be leaving your anniversary dinner aggravated.

Daughter and I both want to come back soon....thanks :)

Great service and the food is excellent. I brought my daughter here to give her a break from the same old food at college!! She absolutely loved it. So did I. Be careful, they have large portions. She had a nice doggy bag to take home. Bob was great and Marisa our server was awesome. I'll be back at the next school visit!!

I love Robertos!! Their new location is beautiful and open, a lot better than when they were across the street! The food was amazing and the waitress was patient and wonderful!! I had the carbonara dish and it was delicious! I was craving pasta and was so happy with the dish. I liked even more than it was not drenched in the sauce and you could taste the pasta as well. Carbonara can be iffy and I usually do not order it because it always tends to be a heavier dish, not here!! We had lemon cake for dessert and it was delicious!!!! I came with an old friend so we came to catch up and chat and we are not rushed so that they could seat other people! Not that there was a line it was a Monday evening but they still had a full house! Enjoy!!

First time visiting and my husband and I thought it was amazing. I had.the.cod w orzo and my husband had the veal parm. One big drawback for me was that they did not have music for dining and they did not ask if husband wanted.grated cheese. Our waitress was busy and we will return. Such a nice place.to eat.outside.on a nice.summer night.

Had dinner here a few days ago for the first time. Service & dinner were fantastic. Calamari was perfect, the bread & oil amazing. Our dinners were a 10 also. Owner is very friendly. We will definitely be repeat customers

Just the bread is worth the trip! Extensive wine menu, the regular menu I feel could have offered more... They have Italian classics and then Italian classics with chicken... Wait staff was extremely friendly and the mood for perfect for a nice date night

So very good. The bread and roasted garlic olive oil were very good as were our meals. The service is excellent. Great atmosphere

Would have loved to try. When we arrived the lady told us they were only taking reservations. The place was completely empty. Hey no problem, but I thought she could have been less snotty.

Though it seems to be missing some traditional Italian pasta favorites from the menu I was very happy with the tasty butternut squash ravioli dish special I ordered. It is a small place with just the right amount of spacing inside to make it both intimate and comfortable. If you are looking for something quiet outside of the Newport area this might be just the right pick for you.

Ate here last night as part of our living social getaway. Crab cakes were yummy. Chicken carbonara was very tasty. Could have had more pancetta.

We tried the new location on June 23. Salads were good. Chowder was good. Meals not so good. Chicken cacciatore was fair. It was rather bland. I ordered Chicken Roberto described on the menu as prosciutto, roasted tomatoes, scallions and roasted orzo. Sounds great right? I took a bite and was surprised. All I could taste was lemon and Dijon! This ingredient is not in the description on the menu. I hate Dijon and would never had ordered this dish knowing that was an ingredient! This just ruined the entire meal for me. Also the air conditioning faded as our meal progressed. We used to enjoy this restaurant but we won't be back. There are too many other good restaurants nearby to return here.

Great date night location! This is a romantic place with a reasonably broad menu and super food quality. The service was excellent and friendly. I had the shrimp Picatta which was superb. My husband had the lasagna and he ate every bite. The wine list is good as were our appetizers. No room for dessert though. A really nice way to perk up a cold and rainy Monday night.

Went for the third time last night at new location. Totally solid! Place was full and the food was excellent, service great; you couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The food here is spectacular. The St. Germane (not on menu) is probably the best dish they offer and I suggest giving it a try. Perfect place to bring a date, but make sure you make a reservation as it is always busy and very small. I would not recommend for parties, because of it's size. That guy who gave one star because he had to move his seat should have stood up for himself and said "no I bought a drink and am sitting here" had he done that they wouldn't have said anything. The staff has always been pretty nice. One last thing to add is that it is very expensive. Dinner for 2 will easily cost you over $100 if you have wine with it. It is worth it if you are looking for good food and a nice atmosphere for a date.

My classic and favorite - shrimp scampi at this cozy Italian dig still tops my chart. This deceptively simple yet complex dish is hard to do it well. Roberto always does the shrimp the justice - cooked to tender and moist inside, and crunchy and browned to perfection on the outside. The linguine is al dente and the sauce is butterly complex and sublime, all at the same time. The selection of wine is good as a good Italian restaurant should be. They carry excellent selection of wine, both red and white, from Italy, Latin America (Chile, Argentina...) Australia and Napa in the U.S. A lot more room and better outdoor dining since they moved this location from across the street. On my next visit, I will try a veal dish. Another favorite and looked great on this visit but opted to my usual...

Have to echo all the other reviews. First time there was just wonderful. We had driven by numerous times and finally made a reservation. Totally full but still quiet and enjoyable. Lovely waitress, friendly bartender. Good winelist with many fairly priced and a few quite expensive. Considering the size of the place both the list and menu were quite extensive. I had the Braciole, the best and most tender I've ever had. My wife loved the Chicken Roberto with Prociuto and a Dijon sauce. Desert was a well made "Nutty Irishman" and I didn'teven have to explain what it was. We had a wonderful time and will return

Stoped in for a quick Thursday dinner. Ate at the bar. Food was excellent. I enjoyed the mushroom, parm, spinach risotto. My wife had the surf and turf. Fun and friendly atmosphere at the bar. Owner spent time with us. A little pricey, but portions generous.

One of my more favorite restaurants in Bristol. New location is great nice to have a bar to sit at have good wine and apps. I had gave this four stars somewhat for the food but most because the bartender played Dean Martin at my request. Red wine caprese Saldana and Dino what could be better!

Good food and good service. Not sure if the bread was stale or just "rustic" (dense and chewy) but the sautéed calamari was nice, as was the seafood medley (cod, shrimp, and clams). Sauces were a bit salty and heavy, but generally a solid effort.

I asked my brother and sister-in-law who live in Warren where they wanted to go for dinner tonight and they chose Roberto's without hesitation. I am so glad they did because it really is an exceptionally well run restaurant. The restaurant is very cozy inside but we opted to eat on the patio (at table p-202 - I read the checks :-). They start you off with excellent Italian bread, olive oil and freshly grated pecarino (just this could earn the place a 5!). For dinner I had two appetizers: the sauteed sea scallops with spinach and the caesar salald. The scallops were cooked to perfection and nicely spiced. The salad was very fresh. My sister-in-law had chicken parmagiano that was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. It was covered with an excellent tomato sauce and linguine that was cooked to perfection. Finally my brother ordered lamb bolognese with penne that he very much enjoyed. The service was friendly and efficient. Louise, if you read this, I am afraid I did not have a chance to inspect the bathrooms...well I guess I had a chance, I just didn't. Prices were reasonable for such a nice restaurant. Thank you Roberto's for a great dining experience!

We went to Bristol for dinner and had not decided to which restaurant. While walking around we spotted Roberto's and decided to give it a try. It was Saturday night and the restaurant was busy however we spotted an open outdoor table and to our surprise it was available. We received a very nice greeting and our server was very pleasant. The menu had plenty of choices and I ordered the scallop primavera and my wife ordered veal piccata. The Italian bread was very good as was the oil and grated cheese. The scallops were excellent as was the fettuccine and light sauce. My wife enjoyed her veal but would have preferred pasta as the starch. The prices were reasonable and we left full and very satisfied.

The food is very good. Nice selection of dishes-everything from seafood, chicken, veal. Wonderful sauces and romantic atmosphere. We have been here twice and really enjoyed our meals and the experience both times. Among the better restaurants in Bristol.

Last night I ate at Roberto's with a table of 5 aging from 46 to 90. We all loved our meals, drinks and desserts. My mom and I both had the Shrimp Pepe Nero and absolutely loved it. Veal Piccata and Cod Roberto were also big hits. The host, Bob, was terrific and so was our waitress, I think her name was Tricia. I definitely recommend a visit to Roberto's.

We have been to this restaurant several times. It is good Italian food but the general pretentious attitude is a turn off for an Italian restaurant. It is kind of a contradiction. You would expect this from a snooty french restaurant. This is our only complaint about this restaurant. If they lighten it up a bit it will be worth the trip.

I went here with a dear friend whom lives in Bristol. It was the windiest and stormiest night of the week. It was also a Tuesday night. Once every few months, we get dinner after work to catch up, share stories, and more importantly eat chicken fingers. However, this time we decided to go for Italian. The ambiance was very romantic and seductive. The decorations were very authentic and made you feel as if you had stepped into Italy. Upon arrival, she immediately pointed out the "Nina" to me on the menu. Without even looking at anything else, I knew this would be what I got. It is plum tomatoes, spinach, pink vodka cream sauce, penne with chicken. My friend got the same thing. Upon eating, it was extremely creamy and thick. For me, this is a major plus. For someone watching your calories, it may be less than ideal. The flavors were exciting and robust. I paired this with a seven oak's cab and a fresh glass of water. I LOVED this restaurant and can't wait to take Greg back this summer! I definitely will continue to go back here!

We went as a very last minute thing with the in laws. We had the calamari and steak frites for apps. The entree was a bit over cooked (pork chop) my fault as I should have requested it medium rare. My wife who is glutin free had many options to choose from. The service was great as usual and the experience overall great.

I have been to Roberto's many times and loved their food. Last night I went with some friends and was quite disappointed. We all shared calamari. It was tasteless and the breading mushy. I ordered pasta with lamb bolognese sauce. Their chef makes many fine dishes, but should be embarrassed to serve this poor imitation of bolognese sauce. Tomato sauce with some ground lamb, not the slow cooked sauce with a few tomatoes among many other ingredients. My friends did enjoyed their meals. When I get over my disappointment over paying $19 for basically Papa Gino's pasta and sauce with the addition of some ground lamb, I will return to Roberto's and order something else.

Roberto's has been a local go to for italian fare for years now, however I feel like this place is overpriced and really can't hold a candle to the italian places in providence and the surrounding areas. The ambiance is nice, the service is pretty good and they have an extensive wine list. The food however I think is just slightly above average, not bad by any stretch but when you pay in excess of twenty dollars per entrée you expect a bit more.

Stopped for a quick bite on the way home from a long day. Sat at the bar and had a divine salad perfectly dressed and tossed with goat cheese and pears. Delish! Also had the crab cake appetizer and it was scrumptious. Will definitely be back with my husband for dinner sometime. Really appealing menu, moderately priced and lovely atmosphere.

Wow! We REALLY enjoyed our meal here. I came with a friend and we ordered 4 items and all 4 were delicious. I don't think that can be a coincidence; the entire menu must just be stellar. We had the goat cheese and pear salad, portabella appetizer, scallop primavera and salted caramel gelato. Even the bread they serve before the meal was worth writing about. The bread was fresh and crusty and came with softened garlic in olive oil - yum. The atmosphere is very nice - tableclothes and candles, and a really nice bar area. Literally my only complaint is that the server didn't fill my water as often as I would have liked. The prices are a little more than I expected to pay in Bristol, but worth it for the quality of the meal, and totally in a reasonable range for a nice night out. Highly recommended!

Last minute use of YELP while traveling resulted in a terrific meal. The three of us shared a large appetizer of calamari, that was unusual because of some spicy peppers. One order was enough for 3. They have an extensive wine list but we were not up for drinks. We ordered scallops primavera, scallops in a light wine sauce with linguini, it comes in a bowl, the sauce was amazing with the scallops. We akso ordered chicken marsala and the mashed potatoes area mix of Yukon and a bit of sweet potatoes, excellent! I ordered the lasagna with sausage and meatballs and even with sharing ended up in food coma. It was delish. But being fatigued from the road we really appreciated the waitress Patricia and got the right level of friendly attention to 3 tired people. For that, am giving 5 stars.

I found this place looking up "romantic restuarants" online. Heh. Yeah, I did that. But anyway, it bills itself, or is billed as, somewhere or other, as Rhode Island's or the East Bay's or somewhere's 'best' Italian restauraunt-- but seriously. No. It cannot be, had I not eaten at any other Italian restaurant, ever. My rum and coke was satisfying. Other than that...We ordered the bread salad. I hate to say that I feel sure this was made by dumping a box of store bought croutons into a frying pan and then cooking/steaming them a BIT with white beans, 3 tablespoons of tiny chopped tomato, and a few basil leaves. It was so disappointing. It was awful! A dish seemingly comprised of boxed and semi- rehydrated croutons, really. Not cohesive, not flavorful, not much of anything. But it WAS a mystery, as to why this would be the panzanella at this supposed "best" Italian restaurant. I think a newly hired sous chef must have been working that night. For the meal, I think we had a special risotto. Whatever it was, it was not enough to make up for that sad little salad we'd already had. I forgot the rest. We were unimpressed with everything but the salad. It made its impression.

Being gluten free, it is magic when a really good Italian restaurant says they have gluten free pasta. You get to eat their best food, not having to choose a dinner because it has potatoes not pasta.Roberto's food is always good and giving patrons the choice of dishes made with either veal or chicken provides everyone the ability to have it the way they like it. Highly recommend Roberto's.

Right off the bat our dinner at Robertos had an interesting beginning. We had made reservations (as suggested by people here) for 8 o clock. We walked in promptly, and were followed inside by the hostess (odd - why was she outside?-first thoughts..) After being told that our table was not yet ready, we were left standing idle in the "lobby" area, which is really a walk way and was awkward. We helped ourselves to seats at the bar, and it took a good 5 minutes to get the bartender to even notice our arrival - pretty awkward considering there were only 4 other people at a bar that sat no more than 10. Was it our age? Everyone in the place did look over 40-and while that theme continued into the night, I became less bothered by the judgmental overtones from the surrounding patrons after a few glasses of wine.... The hostess came around soon after we had placed a drink order with the bar, and asked if we wanted to stay at the bar for dinner. ..mm no, we made a reservation and we want a table. Fair enough - another 5 minutes go by, and 21 dollars on two cocktails later, we arrived at our table. I will say that this place does not strike me as "romantic" as others have claimed. Everyone has a different idea of romance, but this felt more of a restaurant for groups rather than couples. Having candles on each table hardly constitutes romance- the noise level was high and there was buzz around that makes the place more friend and family friendly, than romantic. Our waitress was very friendly, nice, and attentive. We started off with crab cakes (2) which were made with REAL crab meat- so delicious, possibly the best I've ever had! I ordered the scrimp piccatta and my boyfriend had the risotto. We also ordered a bottle of wine (a pinot noir for $53- which was very nicely paired with our meals. Two delicious dishes.) While he devoured his, I brought most of my home for lunch the next day. The meals did take a considerable amount of time to arrive (pushing 45 minutes) to which the waitress explained there was a large party in the other room, which had caused the delay. Maybe they were understaffed in the kitchen this particular night, but if every body's paying money, why should some have to wait longer? Im a reasonable person, and again, wine helps, but my boyfriend seemed to be put off by the lengthy wait time. All in all, they do a good italian dish, but it seems highly over priced for what it is, and the snarky attitudes and vibes just throw me off. Maybe Ill return in 15 years and enjoy it more. Until then...

Ended up going here for Valentines day..I've been once before and it was ok so why not..first we got sat in the second section two doors down from the main building..seated about 5 feet from the front door so every 5 minute u get a nice cold breeze in ur face..we started with the crab crabs which were amazing..defiantly hand made with tons of crab meat cooked to perfection..i wish i could say that was the beginning of a great dinner but i should have got the check right then...i ordered the shrimp picatta i guess the shrimp was grilled but besides that it was one of the worst meals i have ever had..comparison would be eating paper with lemon juice...my wife got the chicken marsala..the chicken was over cooked the Marsala sauce was ok...plenty of italian restaurants around and will not be back to Robertos...i give 2 stars for a great crab

This is beyond my favorite Italian restaurant in Bristol. Chicken Parm is my favorite dish and man does Roberto's perfect it. Most places have such thick cut pieces of breaded chicken in their chicken parm and it almost overwhelms the dish. Not Roberto's. Thinner but absolutely delicious cuts of breaded chicken, melting bubbly cheese topped with their own marinara sauce served over pasta. If that doesn't sound absolutely delicious I'm not sure what does. I am no a big seafood fan however according to my family, they perfect that as well. Bravo, Roberto's!

Last year was my first time at robertos old location and the experience service and food were excellent.. Since the move i have had three bad experiences. After the first I wanted To give them the benefit of the doubt and give it another try but it was still awful. It took forever after getting our drinks for our waitress to come back to take our order. We ordered our food at 7:45 and we didn't receive the food until 9:00 .. Another time we ordered a dish gluten free and they brought it out incorrect .. The calamari appetizer two times was soggy and awful.. Another time we made reservations and upon arriving to the reservation we still had to wait half hour. It was complete caos in there... It seems like since the move they are not capable of keeping up with the increase in business and the food is suffering for it. The good dishes we once had are no longer as tasty as they were before.

Best italian food in town. Tiny, usually packed - I recommend a reservation except on quiet Monday or Tuesday nights. The food - all around it solid to great and they'll tailor just about any dish to your request. Like spicy? Ask for it. Want shrimp instead of chicken? They'll do it. My wife can't stay away from the lasagna (or the pasta w/ blue cheese cream sauce for that matter.) I try something new every time - and have always come away happy.

Went to Roberto's tonight. Haven't been here since they moved to new location diagonally across the street from their old location. It has always been consistently good and we were not disappointed even on a Monday night. We did not have a reservation but hostess was very nice and seated us at one of the few tables left open. Pretty crowded for a Monday night. Server brought delicious bread to the table right away with a small dish olive oil/garlic seasoned with fresh herbs. Bread and dip very fresh and delicious. I got a split of prosecco and bh got a glass of chianti. We ordered Roberto's warm bread salad which we rembered from their old location and we weren't disappointed. Sauted zucchini, onions and tomatoes in a garlicky olive oil with warm seasoned croutons that weren't too hard or too soft. Kind of like a warm tomato panzanella salad. Sooooo good. I got the chicken piccata. Very nice light lemon taste with toasted orzo pasta. bh got their seafood with linguini in a light tomato sauce. It came with littlenecks, shrimp and white fish. Amazing. Just enough pasta. Our compliments to the chef. We were too full for dessert. Maybe next time. This restaurant is more expensive than most restaurants in Bristol but we didn't mind paying more for great food

Decent food in a quaint, romantic eatery with a small neighborhood feel to it. The dining area is small and is pretty loud once it fills up... We dined there the night after they got their power back from Hurricane Irene's romp, so many of the menu items were unavailable and the wait staff was similarly disorganized and slow. However, our experience was still good, and we will definitely go back under better conditions... I recommend that you make reservations, as there are only a dozen or so tables...

my first time at Roberto's was a big date on Valentine's Day. it was perfect then and has been great again in two subsequent visits. the food is simply fantastic. i always have a hard time deciding what to get. plenty of seafood-related pasta entrees, plus a whole page of dishes you can get with either chicken or veal. wine list is robust and covers a range of price points. while he's certainly no certified food critic, tonight my dad said simply, "this is the best lasagna i've ever had." best to make a reservation, and the only critique of this place would be the seating arrangements. there are a couple "bad tables" and even the good ones are a bit close together. but the food is so good that my seat has certainly never dampened my experience.

My wife and I had been temporarily staying in Bristol for about 3 months and we had only heard great things about Roberto's. On a random Saturday we had been running errands and doing things and lost track of time and never ate lunch. We decided to wait the 30 minutes until the restaurant opened and give Roberto's a try. We did not have a reservation but the hostess fit us in but was very honest and upfront that she did have a reservation for that table in about an hour...our choice if we wanted to stay. We stayed and it was worth it! Service was friendly, informative and not pushy. Food was fantastic. I got a seafood and pasta dish and my wife got the pasta with vodka sauce. Both were tremendous! We finished with coffee and dessert - I got the flan and she the chocolate cake. the flan was the superior of the two...so good I stopped there about a week later and got one to go! I didn't think the prices were outrageous - I actually thought they were right on par. Overall a great meal - I do suggest reservations though. She wasn't kidding when she said she was squeezing us in. Within 20 minutes of us sitting down right at 5pm the place was buzzing and almost full.

This tiny Italian restaurant is a great place to stop when you are in Bristol. There is an extensive pasta selection with plenty of vegetarian and seafood options. It is so tiny that it might help to make a reservation beforehand, but we had no trouble securing a table for two on a Sunday evening. It's romantic and at the same time family-friendly.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
