My boyfriend and I stopped in there last night, which we were in there a few times and the place had definitely gone done hill. Big time. It started out with a bad restroom experience for me, which I won't go into details, but I did mention it to the waitress. She just said I'm sorry to hear that and hopefully your appetite will come back once you get your food. From there, it was the salad bar. Not everything looked fresh but we just picked what did looked edible, at least we thought. My boyfriend was on his 2nd bite and literally spit the food out of his mouth back onto his plate. The peaches where no good. My boyfriend went to the register to tell the manager. He replaced the bowl of peaches and took it off our order. Next up was our main dishes. My boyfriend order the meatloaf, which reminded me of my bathroom issue. He cut a piece off to find that it was pinkish and smelled horrible. I smelt it and wanted to throw up. I order the pierogies and they were over fried. We called the waitress over to tell her about the meatloaf. She removed it without saying anything and just put it behind the counter and went to the manager. We couldn't wait to get out of there and got up. We asked what we owed but the manager said don't worry about. Not one sorry or even look of concern that we had a bad experience. It was almost like it wasn't a surprise, just a daily recurrence. When all said and done, you couldn't pay for us to go back EVER! And we will be making sure to tell our friends.

We stop here often as we come into Quakertown for business. Overall this is a nice clean diner. The servers are very friendly and accomidating. They have the best salad bar in the area for lunch salad lovers. It's clean and includes breads and crispy lettuce. Our only complaint is that the soups and lunch specials are way too salty. We have looked for other lunch places for that reason. Please cut back on the heavy salt as we would like to come back and try you again.

Good service and dependable, good food. Every time I visit the in-laws with the family, we end our visit with breakfast or lunch at Plain & Fancy Diner. Every food item I have ordered has been tasty and a good size serving. If you've read any of my other restaurant reviews, you know that I'm a big eater and the servings at this diner fill my belly. Plain & Fancy Diner has a pretty good salad bar option for lunch. The salad bar is large with several options, which is nice. The pasta/potato salads that come with the salad bar don't look the healthiest, but everything else on the bar is just fine. The diner has a great kids menu and their soups are tasty. Service has always been excellent. Whenever we eat here, we bring a decent size group filled with crazy kids and over emotional adults (did I mention that I'm there visiting my in-laws? Always drama). Anyway, the servers tending to our group have always been great and kept their spirits and attitudes high even when kids are spilling their drinks and adults are arguing. All-in-all, I rather enjoy the true diner environment, decent quality food, and great server attitudes at Plain & Fancy Diner. I'm a big fan!

If your really hungry and you don't care what your food taste like then eat here! It's cheap and you get alot of it! Yeah the food is reasonable priced but everything taste like the grill. Doesn't matter if it's breakfast or dinner it all has the same bad taste of slop from a dirty grill. They have a huge menu and they make everything but they make none of it well! After you've eaten here you have to rush home to sit on the toilet! AVOID!

Can you be both plain and fancy at the same time? I don't really know. It doesn't really matter, I guess, if you're serving me a decent hangover helping breakfast. We had omlettes and lots of coffee, and a great view of the most bizarre salad bar I've ever seen. SInce it was Daylight Savings time the night before, it seemed even more strange to watch people making at salads at what would have been around 10am. Oh well. Anyway, my group of still somewhat drunk breakfast companions and I were completely fascinated by the gigantic BOWL OF BUTTER sitting atop some garnish. Seriously, it was huge. And not enough people were using it! I would've said the hell with a salad, grabbed a whole loaf of bread and spread it all over...but again, it felt like 10am and the salad bar was out of the question. At least it was for me... But I digress. The breakfast was quite good, and the service was, while attentive and pleasant, either not amused or completely confused by my husbands butter questions. In the end, he somehow talked them into selling him an entire tub of the butter, which they stuffed in an enormous ricotta container. Cost him 10 bucks. I can only imagine what they were thinking. Yeah, so we'll be back for sure. But not for more butter.

The "shiny" diner as we call it due to the traditional stainless steel siding. Lots of menu choices, good salad bar. Good place to stop for a good quick meal. 3//6/10 update, getting tired of the Spanish banter going on table side from the help.

The atmosphere was near flawless, and should be used as a template for any and all upcoming diners. High Ceiling, retro neon colors, a rotating pie machine, large booths, and vintage music machines at each booth ( my comrades and I chose The Beatle's "Penny Lane"). Service was so fast that I was skeptical at first that it was the correct order. Now onto the food. My monte crisco was perfect. Every part of the sandwich was cooked to the right proportion. The ham crisp, the turkey succulent, and the bread....I mean.. THE BREAD! The only reason it is not a 7 out of 7 is because of the lack of ketchup. Come on now. That's like not having golf balls at a driving range. Overall, I stamp John's Plain and Fancy.

My husband and I have been here several times and every time we have a delicious meal. Busy joint. Breakfast was good, Don had a Greek omelet and I had Eggs Benedict. A week later we came here for lunch and it too was delicious! Don had the calf's liver with onions (the best he's ever had, generous portions too) and I had the traditional Gyro (DELICIOUS!) and we both had the salad bar which we both enjoyed and everything was fresh and crisp. Don't get me wrong, some salad bars creep me out because people can be dirty, double dipping or uneducated about salad bar etiquette, but this salad bar looked and smelt clean and was well maintained. It was visual obvious. French fries were hot and crisp, macaroni salad was good, potato salad was good and the coleslaw was good. However my husband said the eggplant was "tasteless and should be cut longitudinally not transversely". I think any place that has an open salad bar should post a large sign with proper Salad Bar Etiquette. The waiter and waitresses were all very nice and pleasant and kept our drinks full. Desserts were yummy. Diner was clean, bathrooms were nice and CLEAN too. It's a nice diner... it's a 24/7 diner... it's just a diner people! Not the white house. I don't get the whole "creepy" thing from the other reviews but whatever. Huge menu, lots to choose from and weekly specials. Casual attire. I liked the shinny metals and the neon lights, homage to the 50ies era.

Wife and I were looking for a different diner to try out. Driving down 309 there are a few, but we settled on John's Plain and Fancy Diner. We went on a Sunday morning at 10:30, so it was prime time for diners. This is the best time to see how good a diner is. Typically a diner will have their A staff there doing all the work, so you should expect a great meal compared to other times. When we got there the place was packed, which is always a good sign. We were a litlte concerned about wait time from look at the line, but they had it moving really quick-they seem to have a good system going on. We were then seated, so I looekd around and found the restaurant to be very clean. Table wasnt sticky, and the floors looked good. There were plenty of servers hustling around, and they all seemed to be in good spirits considering the rush. One thing I would like to note about the wait staff is that they all wear uniforms. It wasnt just a polo shirt or anything, it was a white shirt, black vest, black skirts for the ladies with black leggings, and black pants for the men. It was a nice change to see them all looking professional-it makes a difference in my opinion. Our food was served pretty quick considering the amount of people. I wish I could say the food was great, but I cant. My wifes sunny side up eggs came out broken which was not a good sign. We both had bacon, and it was overdone. I think a diner should know how to make bacon without overcooking it. I ordered Johns Famous Sourdough French Toast. I found it to be famously mediocre. It was kind of mushy, and bland. Perhaps it was the syrup-dont know, but itwasnt great. It did come with an ice cream scoop size of butter though. I will also note that in sme pieces I could taste fried onions-obviosuly they didnt clean the grill off well enough when they made my french toast. I dont like other foods contaminating my meal-I dont think that is asking too much. Overall experience was good, as was the atmosphere. Food was marginal, but I would be willing to go back and perhaps try something else. Maybe the waffles are better.

Should be called plain and nasty. Ordered French toast with eggs, the food could have been used to lubricate an engine block. This was the third and last time I will return to this restaurant. If you lack taste buds, crave horrible food or stomach aches then this is the place for you.

This diner is in a private lot on Route 309 southbound. Parking appears to be sufficient, especially if you go to the area behind the diner. We were there for a breakfast meetup. Our group was large so that may have affected service. Food took a long time to come out and the server forgot my toast. However, I didn't notice any other problems. I had bacon, eggs, toast, and tomato juice with coffee, which is pretty standard diner breakfast fare and was prepared about as well as I expected.

Was driving through the area and just looking for the first restaurant on the side of the road we happened to be on and this was it. Going in I wasn't expecting too much it took a bit of time for us to get seated, I'm assuming the guy that was the owner just kind of stared at us. Not sure if he thought we were bored and just standing there because we had nothing better to do, but after we got seated our waitress was quite friendly. The menu had a wide variety of items, and everything was in a typical diner price range. Some of the main entrees were priced a bit more than I'm used to seeing at a diner. My friend and I both ordered two different sandwiches both of which were a decent size a bit bigger than we were expecting and both were very tasty.. I had a chicken bbq, and it was a bit on the saucy side but the sauce didn't over power it, so I didn't mind it. Wouldn't have stopped here if it wasn't on the way, but I would stop back again if I was in the area. There is also plenty of room for parking. I imagine they do get busy at times but when we went it was late afternoon so it wasn't too too packed. Overall quite a pleasant dining experience.

Very disappointed. I was ordering the soup and half a sandwich for lunch. They had grilled cheese with ham and roast beef sandwich s on the choice list so I asked if I could have a grill cheese with roast beef, this was to complicated for them and they said no. Also, there beef barley soup was made with hamburger it was not a true beef barly soup. Very disappointed that they could not mange a simple change.

I grew up in the area so I have seen the many faces of Plain and Fancy. In my opinion the outside is tacky and the inside is very much a diner. The menu is extensive and all the food tastes the same old diner food. It is a go to place because there is lots of seating, enough choices that you are guaranteed to find something you enjoy, and there is a salad bar. If you are in the area this is a decent stop.

Really good food for a diner, and a sizable menu. Everything was delicious, and SO cheap! My eggs weren't at all watery and nothing was too greasy- That earns an A from me as far as diners go! 4 stars because my waitress wasn't exceptionally friendly, but in her defense it was very late at night. However, the manager made several stops at our table to check on us, and he was fabulous! Very sweet and friendly man. Great service. Highly recommend this place!

Typical diner with average food. I stopped in with friends after the bar one night. Our waiter was great and the food hit the spot. If I'm ever out in Quakertown late night I would stop in again.

John's Plain and Fancy located on RT 309 in Quakertown is open 24/7/365. A breakfast hotspot based on the crowded parking lot. We had the opportunity to have breakfast only. Coffee was good, the over light and home fries were standard and omelette was very good. The highlight of this meal was actually the sour dough toast. Sliced thick, lightly toasted and perfect for sponging up excess yolk. NO WIFI Appearance **** Clean, Flat Screens, Counter Seating, Salad Bar Service **** 0 - 60 in a few second, Friendly Food*** Nothing extra special but good Value **** 6 bucks per May come back for diner

I have a great experience in the past, so I return to be very disappointed. I order the Chopped Steak, which normally comes with Onion's and gravy, which I always order it plain. But on there menu it stated that onions and gravy were and option and it were cook to perfection instead. The chopped steak came out, and I stated that I didn't want it with onions or gravy, before I could finish telling the waitress the manager took the plate away. I received it back within min with gravy, I stated I wanted it plain, so they took it back and within in minutes I received it back. But they just took off the gravy and flipped the steak over thinking I wouldn't notice. The asked for a manger and told then that this was unacceptable and showed him, and breaking it up in the process. He did get me another one and took it off the bill. But my problem is that the cook, tried to send it back out incorrect again, with or without the manger knowledge. I will not recommend this Diner because of it nor will I go back. Sorry. Btw they have a huge menu with everything from Seaford, pasta to steak. I gave it 2 because of my pass experience there.

We ate here for lunch one day, but decided to enjoy breakfast. I really like the feel of the diner and the menu was quite large. The service was okay, but not great. Both of our lunches were pretty good. I felt that my Greek omlet needed more feta and spinach, but other than that we left full and happy.

If I could give this place no stars I would.. It was awful. We went here for breakfast just some one let's and they were tasteless and made wrong, both of our orders were wrong. The waitress repeatedly complained about her job, how he wanted to strangle the cooks, even that the one item on the menu we asked about was not good that it was made in the microwave and she doesn't like them. Everything down to he hash browns were tasteless do yourself a favor and skip this place. My friend walking to the door saw a cook w a pancake is his bare hand carrying it to where we have no clue hopefully the trash and not someone's plate

Stopping through on my way back from Philadelphia, I stopped by this diner expecting to grab something quick to eat and move on. Instead, my husband and I had a wonderful experience - great food, happy waitstaff, and warm ambiance. I ordered one of the stirfry's and it was great - shrimp was cooked perfectly and the chicken was juicy. My husband ate the prime rib - I had a bite and it melted in my mouth. I must say, it was beyond my expectations for a diner, and I would definitely stop by again.

Service was fast. We orderd and were served in about 5min flat. I joked with my waitress,u must have 50 Mexicans working in the kitchen. She laughed and said yes we do. Scrapple was soggy. Bacon over cooked Over all it was ok .

This is a typical northeast diner, open 24 hours and has everything imaginable on the menu. It's fun too because one side of the restaurant is typical diner style with booths and neon lights while the other side is "fancy" with chandlers and crown molding. (if you go after 10pm they almost always put you on the "plain" side) I will preface this review with this: it's a diner. Just because they have lobster on the menu doesn't mean you should order it. They have great sandwiches, fantastic fries (especially curly fries), big deserts, and excellent 'breakfast' type foods. The prices are very reasonable for what you're getting, and your beverage always stays full, even if you go at 2am. Which is great, because basically nothing else in Quakertown is open after 11pm. Another great thing is they will not kick you out. If you have finished and been given your bill, don't expect them to keep filling your drink, but they won't make you leave. However, if you plan on staying forever keep 2 things in mind: don't do this in the middle of the day if people are obviously waiting for a table (because that's rude), and if it's late and you'd waitress is leaving make sure you give them their tip before they go. I really like this place, I've been going for about 9 years on and off, but when I'm in town, this is my go-to place, especially if I want to catch up with friends.

I love this place because I can actually get in right away on a weekend morning. I don't have to wait in line forever for breakfast like at the Coopersburg Diner. The food is excellent every time I go!

Dining here is hit or miss. This time it was more of a miss. Service was just ok. Food this time was terrible. Lasagna was burned on the bottom. layers & sauce were dried out. Seafood was burned on the bottom & dried out & tasteless in center. So disappointed, didn't bother to order dessert. Will be a long time before we take a chance coming here again.

Really not an enjoyable experience. Stopped in for lunch yesterday afternoon and, because it is a diner, did not go in with exceptionally high standards. However, even for a diner, there were some things this place was certainly lacking. To start, the menu is a little odd - Under any of the sandwich sections of the menu, you're instructed to order "by number". So, for example, I ordered a wrap, and under the wrap category of the menu, each kind was assigned a number. I found this a little odd and had to wonder why the menu was set up this way. Despite what the menu said, I went ahead and ordered my buffalo chicken wrap... Which was not a buffalo chicken wrap at all. First of all, the menu described the chicken as crispy. I had expected some kind of chicken tender or fried chicken coated in buffalo sauce, but instead what I got looked like chicken salad out of a can with some buffalo sauce mixed in with it. It looked vaguely like cat food, to be honest. The sweet potato fries that came with it were okay, but nothing special. The service itself was pleasant enough - our server was polite and attentive, however, there was one thing she did that really grabbed my attention. As a server myself, every restaurant I have ever worked at has very blatantly said that a server should never EVER place a drink tray on a table when handing out drinks to guests. Our server did just that (there were only three drinks on the tray itself, so it couldn't have been that heavy or difficult to balance), and placed the tray on our table and THEN handed us our drinks. Nobody else in my party seemed to notice this, but it is a small detail that really did shock me and only added more negativity to our experience. While I'm aware this isn't our server (or anyone who isn't management)'s fault, the uniforms the servers had to wear were also awful. While the decor of the restaurant was fun and supposedly 'plain and fancy', the servers just looked dated in a bad sort of way in mid-length pencil skirts and black vests. On a final note, I understand that this is a diner and not some five-star place, but there are certain things you expect from any restaurant and decent food is one of them. Tiny flaws in the service I can overlook, but when combined with gross food, everything just added up.

This was an absolutely average diner experience for me. I wasn't wowed by any of their offerings but I wasn't put off either. Their coffee is very average, edible but not tasty. Their home fries are also very average, but at least they're cooked all the way through. Our service was a bit spotty but that's to be expected. I have to point out that they butter their toast in a very odd fashion, pretty much just haphazardly, so that you have to 're-butter' every slice. There was a huge chunk of butter sitting close to the crust's edge of my rye bread. Why put it on at all in that case? This isn't somewhere I'd go again and really you won't be missing too much if you skip it.

I just want to let everyone know that you need to look in the bottom of your coffee cup. We had what looked like a boogier in the bottom of the the cup. I mentioned this the manager an he didn't care at all. Go to a CLEAN restaurant!

Six of us went here for breakfast. We were promptly seated by the host in a spacious, well lighted, and clean dining area. Our waiter must have had a memorable evening because taking care of us was not his priority. Though he was pleasant, he seemed to disappear at times. Besides not knowing who received which plate, he had to be reminded several items about what we had ordered. One of us never did receive his bread request. Because most of us ordered pretty standard diner breakfast fare it is difficult to evaluate the food. It all appeared to be prepared with fresh ingredients, including the corned beef hash which in some places comes out as a deep fried patty. The overall atmosphere here is compfortable and the prices are quite reasonable.

It's a Diner It aint run by Gordon Ramsey. That being said the Food is great, the employees are friendly and the drinks are cold. Favorite meal is the Gyro. always delicious. I would give it 4 stars but its a pain to pull in and out of the place. Which is not the fault of the restaurant. Once a month on a sunday this is our spot.

This place is conveniently located right on Hwy 309 in Quakertown. Has a great old 50's diner look. They have daily specials, plenty of seating and parking. Their prices are very reasonable. Staff are friendly and efficient. I adore creamed chipped beef on toast and always go out for it when I'm back up here in the area (can't ever find it where I'm living now in NC). Their's is fantastic! Next time I'm up this way I'll definitely come back for more.

Husband planned my 50th Birthday Party here. We had it in the back dining room. We had about 35 people. Everyone couldn't believe how good the food was and how large the portions were. A lot of people ordered the Primb Rib. I give the Primb Rib Five Stars! It was juicy, tender and melted in my mouth! The waitress's and staff were so helpful in helping my family set up the place for my party. The service was wonderful! Can't say enough about the Spanish waitress we had. She was awesome! We never had to ask for a refill on our drinks. I would definitely recommend this place! They helped make my Birthday really special!

New chef this Easter Sunday 2015. The Salmon looked just like Flounder and hidden beneath a mound of broccoli. My mother-in-law sent back her meal for the first time in her life. We brought it up to the manager but it was uncertain how much he cared. The waitress was great. Oh well.

I'm not a huge fan of Quakertown in general, but if I'm passing through I like to stop here. The menu is pretty extensive, but organized really well into sections. Still a bit daunting if you're so hungry you don't know what you want, but I find that I order something different every time. When you walk in take a look at their dessert display. It's impressive! Sometimes service can be a bit...off, but I kind of expect that in this part of town. Definitely worth a try, there's something for everybody.

I like this diner better than competitor Quakertown Family Restaurant. The food tastes a lot better and it's cheaper-I've had bad experiences at the other one. They have a ton of selection and huge portions. The salad bar alone could be your whole meal and it comes with most dinners. The food and design inside is let's be honest Diner quality, but the portions and pricing is very appealing.

It's your normal diner and this diner is a locals hangout. The service is good and the food arrived quickly. I wasn't expecting much for a diner so I was not let down. This is your normal diner with your normal dner menu. If your hungry don't hesitate to stop here.

Wow, some nasty reviews here. This place is not the best place you will ever eat, but it's not as bad as others make it sound, and I eat here a lot. First, there is no tacky 50s decor (per the June 2010 review); maybe I never noticed it and now it's changed. It isn't that well-decorated, but it does have lots of chandeliers in one of the seating areas, and some cute holiday-themed decor throughout. You'll get seated quickly, even when busy, and the food comes out fast. I'm almost always happy with my food (again, not the best you'll ever eat, but satisfying). I've eaten breakfast and lunch here, but never dinner. I also have to take personal offense at a recent reviewer who says they are "not a fan" of Quakertown and don't expect great service in "this part of town". Sure, Quakertown is no New Hope, but I'm still not certain how that attitude is relevant in a review? Perhaps if the diner was in New Hope it would get 5 stars?

I just want to let everyone know that you need to look in the bottom of your coffee cup. We had what looked like a boogier in the bottom of the the cup. I mentioned this the manager an he didn't care at all. Go to a CLEAN restaurant!

Should be called plain and nasty. Ordered French toast with eggs, the food could have been used to lubricate an engine block. This was the third and last time I will return to this restaurant. If you lack taste buds, crave horrible food or stomach aches then this is the place for you.

Service was fast. We orderd and were served in about 5min flat. I joked with my waitress,u must have 50 Mexicans working in the kitchen. She laughed and said yes we do. Scrapple was soggy. Bacon over cooked Over all it was ok .

The "shiny" diner as we call it due to the traditional stainless steel siding. Lots of menu choices, good salad bar. Good place to stop for a good quick meal. 3//6/10 update, getting tired of the Spanish banter going on table side from the help.
