Decent place. Nothing stuck me as extraordinary, but it was good. My family has lived near this place since it opened, but never tried it in it's 9 years. We went with a groupon that we recently purchased ($22 for $50). FOOD: Since it was Memorial day, they were giving 1 free slider to each patron. *Sliders - Eh, nothing great. Feels like an after thought, because they cook a big burger and cut it into fourths. My party ordered a few bugers, ribs, chicken pot pie, fried shrimp and a kids meal. All of which was very good. Desert - My nephew got a free sundae he took up to their sundae bar and loaded it with whatever toppings he wanted. He LOVED it. We all got 6 fresh baked choc chip cookies. Mmmmmmmm SERVICE: The staff was friendly and our server was very prompt. The manager even stopped by a few times to see how we were. BUILDING: Nice. I did not study every nook and cranny, but from just general dinner oberservation and going to the men's room, I had no issues. OVERALL: This place is like going to an Applebee's. Would go back if looking for a quick bit at movie theater. Otherwise, would probably not be at the top of my list.

I would come here if you're looking for a great burger, but probably not for anything else. I don't know if I've tried anything else on their menu, and if I did, it was already forgotten. The burgers are not the best I've ever had but they are definitely in the top ten. Juicy, flavorful, and substantial (nothing worse than a thin, dry, McD's style patty). They recently changed their menu and added a few new burgers as well as a 'build your own' section. I opted for that and got a wheat bun (major points for the option), medium well patty with cheddar, lto, and fried pickles. Yes, fried pickles. On the burger. Why have I never thought of that before? After I digested about two hours later, I wanted to go back and get another one. The combo was that good. Beer selection is so-so. They hit all the basics - Sam, Yuengling, Bud etc with a couple of seasonals. I went with a Blue Moon, my old standby. Desserts are meh, but I guess that's standard for the "family chain" restaurants. Yeah the cookies are good, but they're still just cookies. The price is the best thing about this place. Even if you get the larger burger, with toppings, it only comes to around $10.

Plastic packaging in the kid's Mac and cheese, which looked gross to begin with, even for pre-packaged m&c. Dirty plates and utensils. Chicken tenders, cole slaw, and fries were subpar and made me feel slightly queasy. Cookies were overdone and unsatisfying. Service was pretty good, saving this from being a 1 star review.

My experience here has been up and down. Unfortunately more down than up lately. I think Max & Erma's has survived on the fact that they don't have much competition in the Oaks area. And have been the premier restaurant near the movie theater for yeas. But service level has gone down over time. A recent visit took us forever to finish dinner and get the kids home who were eventually sleeping with their heads on the table. We took immediate seating at a booth in the bar which worked out well. Timing was great as about 30 people showed up 15mins later when a movie probably let out. The hostess sat us at the table but didn't ask for drink orders or ensure that we even had silver wear, napkins etc. Plus the seat was covered in crumbs from where the table was wiped down. The waiter proved to be a major annoyance. His signature phrase he uttered every time we asked for it was "coming right up, 30 seconds!". But I guess we should have asked when the 30 seconds would actually start. We waited a long time for drinks, then appetizers and our food. We finally got small plates after we were about half way through our appetizers. The manager walked by, noticed we were using the drink napkins as plates and ran off to get some. But I watched as he walked to the other end of the bar and verbally chastised our waiter for the mistake- and did so quite loudly and with profanity. Then when he returned he just left the plates and ran off.... no napkins, no silverware. Eventually I got up and stole some off the large pile of newly wrapped silverware on the back of the bar. Plus, I hate when either the food servers or kitchen runners drop stuff off and don't ask if everything is correct or if we need anything else. The manager did this is as well. It's annoying when you're waiting on drinks for the kids and they stop off to bring someone's salad, place it on the table and quickly turn to leave. You end up having to quickly yell out your order before they run away. Another pet peeve of mine is when the wait staff is chit chatting with a table for an extended period of time and they don't look around as they talk. It's OK to build rapport with your table, but look around as you talk to see if your OTHER tables are looking for you. You can even nod at them as a gesture of acknowledgement that you'll be there in a minute. Or when you grab a drink order at your farthest table, don't run by your other tables doing everything you can to not look at them. stop off and collect all the orders you'll need. Food is still descent at Max and Ermas. I would give this place 3 stars but the service sucks. No other way to put it.

Went here for the first time this past Saturday. We were on our way home from the Outdoors Sportsman Show and this was right next to the Oaks Center parking lot. We were greeted right away. We asked for a both and we got one right away. Our server was "Keith". He went out of his way to make us feel like he genuinely appreciated being our server. My friend and I got burgers....ABSOLUTELY YUMMY DELICIOUS cooked medium rare exactly like I asked. My friend was just as happy with his. There is no way you can compare Max and Erma's burgers to Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays or any of those other chain joints. The burgers were by far the best burgers I've had in a long time. They didn't have the soybean meal taste to them like a lot of other chains do, plus they were FRESH ground beef not frozen! My friend's son had the chicken pot pie. It wasn't a very large serving and you could tell it wasn't one of Max and Erma's "better" entrees. If you want delicious burgers.....I highly recommend this place.

I first went to max and Erma's in Columbus Ohio. The atmosphere was ok and food good The restaurant in oaks is about the same Almost every time I go to the convention center I go there for dinner. There is usually a wait so the place is rather popular I've found the staff pleasant and attentive. The food is good not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but good. I've never been disappointed. The onion rings were good. My wife had the cream of broccoli soup which was very good. Her hamburger was cooked to order and tasted great I had the shrimp salad and it was excellent plenty to eat. Drink are priced reasonable and tasty I've found this place to be consistent and one of the better chain restaurants

Delicious garbage burger and white macadamia cookie! Also like the styled lamps there.

I've seen this place in different locations over the years and have always been mildly interested in it but not enough to actually try it. This wouldn't have changed except that I was recently in the area to see a movie with a guy who grew up in Kentucky and wanted to go for nostalgia's sake. He warned me that I wouldn't be too impressed but my thinking going into a situation like this is that if it's good, great! and if it's bad, better! Because I may get a good story/yelp review out of it. I suppose the worst thing that could happen aside from gut crushing food poisoning or gas leak explosion, would be that the experience is "just alright" which is pretty much what it was. I'd place Max and Ermas above Denny's but below other chains like Fridays and Applebee's. Nothing exciting or worth noting on their menu as it's the usual American chain fare. We weren't here to really get a substantial meal and instead opted for a few apps. I had Potato skins and a wedge salad, my buddy the vegetarian ordered pretzel sticks and the cookies. Speaking of the cookies, that's their gimmick. Hot cookies. It's a good idea but not likely to impress this baker, who can get that everyday if I chose to. I still had to admit that they were good. In fact, the entire meal was good. I think we both enjoyed our meals much in the same way you'd enjoy sitting down and watching an episode if Gilligans Island. I had a hard time picking a rating for M&E. They certainly do mediocrity right. They take a 2star concept and do it 5star well so I'll split the difference and give it 3stars. Even with M&E being mediocre, I still managed to squeeze a sizable review out of it, but I suspect you stopped reading a long time ago. I love you all. God Bless.

Went here for the first time last night with my boyfriend.....both of us ordered burgers......his was plain and I had the sunny side egg burger. It was served with a maple ketchup and fries.....I also had the minestrone soup and a cookie for desert. Well the soup was good, very flavorful....the burger was huge juicy and so delish. ....I could only eat half of it cause of how big it was.....it was sweet and juicy.....the cookie was fresh baked and one of the best I've had in a while. ......we will definately be going back and I will recommend this place to everyone

I was a little stunned 8-16-15 when I went to Oaks and found a note on the door of the building that read something like "Max and Erma's is Closed . . . We have enjoyed serving you for 11 years." After reading some of the reviews below, now I know why, perhaps. The combination of that and more nearby competition now is probably what did them in. But their burgers and cookies were scrumptious while we could get them.

Passing thru town for a wedding, looked like a nice place. Food was good, nice atmosphere, but our waiter John was aweful , brought soup after meal was half eaten , totally forgot sauces for dipping till meal was done , and kept apoligizing that he forgot. And it was not busy...

Poor experience, won't be returning. We decided to give this place a try since we are new to the area and have never been here before. The food was ok, nothing special but the service was lackluster, which is a major issue when that's the supposed selling point of the place. We had to ask for simple things such as straws and napkins multiple times before it finally registered with our waitress. She also ignored us for awhile and we didn't get refills even when putting our cups at the edge of the table. Can't recommend this place.

2 stars for the food and general atmosphere. When arriving we requested a booth not realizing all the seating was at booths during this lunch service. When my father said he couldn't see the menu and asked the waiter for a booth with a brighter light he left to speak to the hostess instead of just showing us to a more suitable booth. I told the hostess why we wanted to move but she wanted to check with the server first. Geez, can't anyone have any flexibility? Do I need to carry a flashlight in my purse? All young people. The waiter was the only one with customer service skills. The waitress was a sourpuss. The hostess noisily bussed the adjacent tables and banged things without care for the dining experience of other guests. Are there any grown-ups around?

Pleasantly surprised! I dined at tge bar during happy hour. $3 margaritas! I tried the fish tacos and the tilpia was seasoned nicely and came with fresh salsa. Jim was genuine and sweet. I was a little leery of this place but will definitely visit again when I'm back in the area.

Thank you so much Max & Erma's for the food poisoning. There is nothing better than flying across country for work and trying to adjust to the three hour time zone change while puking your guts out every hour starting at 3am. Your food completely undid the effort your servers put forth for a pleasant experience.

I found myself at the Oaks Convention Center with a friend and at her suggestion we went here for dinner... It's pretty much in the same complex as the convention center. I had never heard of it before, but apparently it's a chain. Who knew, well not me. We had a short wait for a table, but the hostess was spot on with the wait time. The menu is huge and the typical "novel-like" menu found at places like this. The fish tacos jumped out at me so when I saw them I stopped looking at the menu. But I did see salads, sandwiches, burgers etc. The appetizer selection was nice; we settled on the baked black bean roll ups which were tasty and a touch spicy. My fish tacos were huge - I didn't come close to finishing my dinner. I have a toddler and the kids menu was really nice - thank you for having veggies or fruit as a choice of sides! Apparently this place is know for their cookies served warm from the oven. That evening they had a chocolate chip, a double chocolate and a macadamia nut. The cookies were huge and as promised were served warm. They were totally worth the calories. Our server was really sweet and attentive. As was the service in general. There was a wait between our appetizer and our entrees (but not one so long that we minded or even noticed) and both the server and the manager apologized for "the wait". While I wasn't blown away with the food I also wasn't disappointed. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but would return if I'm in the area again. If not just for cookies and milk!

Place was really good. A friend of mine said we had to stop here when we were over that way and I'm glad she did. I went with the 3-course combo they have (upgraded for $1 to get a a tortilla burger as well). Just in case you're not familiar with the combo, it starts w/ tortilla soup, then a burger which I upgraded to the tortilla burger, and ends with a cookie. I had a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie for dessert and it was very good for all things I ordered. Next time I'm in the area I will have to stop by again. Very tasty and the service was quick as well.

Nachos were really good. Wish the lighting was a little better, if facing a door or window the outside is bright(during day) and dark inside. The amaretto sour was amazing, order this during happy hour. Burgers are 4 stars. Service was good. Restaurant was clean. I will return.

It's an E for Erma's Three strikes! Restaurant: dirty (no wonder I read a recent review that one of the other guests got food poisoning) Food: they claim to have one of the best burgers I found it average to poor at best. Should have gone to Cheeburger cheeburger next-door or Wendy's across the street. Service: slow and not friendly. I will not be going back here again anytime soon . I tried Unos last night ( it's located across the street in the new plaza). New. Bright. Clean. Great food. Wonderful service) . It is a MUCH , MUCH better option. No comparison.

Good burger, pretty good tortilla soup, great service, EXCELLENT warm, fresh baked cookie! I would return for sure :-)

Went on a busy night. The hostess at the front was not friendly. We were seated quicky. Lots of selections on the menu. Our server was a very nice lady, she paid attention to us and I have no complaints regarding her. Food was okay. Definitely do not go in expecting fancy 5-star restuarant food.. It's nice for a casual night out with friends. Dishes did not look that clean. Overall, it was alright.

This used to be one of our favorite spots. They change the menu and we usually would get the chicken or streak fajitas. I dont know what they did but they stink. They started using bottled pico loved the fresh pico. The banana cream pie is to die for!!!

  • Jeff S.

Just ate here with pregnant wife. She got chicken pot pie and I got a burger combo that came with tortilla soup and a cookie. Burger was a bit undercooked when I asked for medium well and there was a shortage of ketchup for the fries which was strange. They also use an old school brioche bun that reminded me of the bread Wendy's used to use when they offered a buffet years ago. Chicken pot pie had lots of tender chicken in it. The tortilla soup was great with a little spicy kick and the cookie was warm and excellent. I give it 3.75-4 stars. Server Jorge was nice and friendly. Better than going to Friendlys any day for the cookies.

OMG. The noise level is ridiculous. Food is pub fare standard. A little pricy. Not sure why but parents who allow their kids to scream, yell and throw things seem to love this place. Still don't understand why the restaurant doesn't address parents behaving badly. No need to go back. Once is enough.

Not bad food, pretzels were good, husband liked the Philly steak sandwich. Friendly bartenders, a small enough menu to choose quickly. Cole slaw was good too. Very popular!

This review is for a to-go order. First, I was on hold for 4 minutes and spoke with three different people - transferred twice. Finally, I spoke to a bartender who took my order, asked my name, and told me the order would be ready in 15-20. About 25 minutes later, I parked in the (hard to find) to go spots, near a side door -- which didn't work. I had to walk around to the front, through the swarms of people, and find the bar. (Whew, this is a lot of work for dinner with an "easy" to-go service.) I told the bartender why I was there and proceeded to wait at least 5 minutes for my food. Once we got our food, it was sub-par to average. My medium rare burger was well done, the nachos were already soggy and sad, and my friend's side salad was depressing. If it hadn't been the only restaurant near Target, we'd have passed. And we'll probably pass next time.

  • Lauren A.

The food is okay, it's what you expect, nothing to good nothing to bad. The service is what got this two stars. We asked how our servers day was and she gave an unpleasant tone, then when ordering used the same tone. Our food took forever to get out to us, and when it did one of our orders didn't come out.

  • Stephanie M.

I came here with my friend and her grandmother on a Thursday afternoon. The service left plenty to be desired. The hostess was dazed and distracted, our waitress was an oddball who left us without silverware or napkins at the start of our meal, as well as three empty water glasses for most of the meal's duration. She barely made eye contact. I ordered the Strawberry Poppy Chicken Salad. The salad was mostly comprised of the "spicy candied pecans," which were surprisingly delicious, though there were way too many of them. I felt like I was eating a bowl of pecan clusters with some lettuce and a few strawberries thrown in. For me, this place embodies too many of the negative characteristics that are commonly associated with chain restaurants. I won't be back.

My Reuben was cold and whatever vinegar or additive was in the sauerkraut, literally dried my lips out so much they felt like they were on fire! Our server was some young Bieber-wannabe.... Yeah.... And the fried pickles tasted like weird chicken nugget hybrids. Not a fan. Will not be back. If it weren't for the fact that EVERYWHERE IS PACKED ON FRIDAY NIGHT, I would have never come here. I am currently listening to a table of 15 year old girls talking about snorting milk out of their nose at lunch and Facebook statuses. Oh and the weird goldfish hanging from the ceiling is just....weird.My fiancé said he came here for drinks a while back.... I was shocked.

This is the only Max and Erma's I've ever been to. I used to work in the same industrial complex and ordered from there frequently. And I've been back a few times over the years subsequently. The food here is excellent. I'm particularly partial to the tortilla soup and any of their salads. For an entrée, I usually get a Garbage Burger, or a Bacon and Bleu burger. If you're the type of person that likes a lot of different flavors in one meal the Garbage is the way to go. The B&B is more standard fare but it's still sumptuous. I'd liken the service to any other fast casual chain, maybe a bit bitter since it's the only location in the area. It also caters to a lot of the employees for the Dump and other businesses so it's fairly brisk. Even so, expect a wait during peak hours, but I'm happy to say it's worth it.

We knew we'd be coming down 422 around dinnertime and didnt want to venture far from the highway. In checking their menu beforehand, we walked in with expectactions on par with an Applebees. Our experience was just fine. Hummus app was good, everyone enjoyed their burgers (Athena/Baja) and chicken sandwiches and we didn't begrudge our server for the fresh cookie suggestion. Think Red Robin without the obnoxious decor and lighting. Pace of meal was good and our server was friendly and attentive. This place is a particularly good option if you consider location, and don't want to deal with the can of worms that is the KOP mall area or Town Center on 29.

My family and I come to this restaurant all the time. The food is standard American fare. It is good and well priced. Comparable to Chili's. My parents LOVE the Third Street Salad. They get it just about every time we go. I generally get the 3 Course Combo special. It's $9 for a soup or salad, cheeseburger, fries, and a fresh baked cookie. Can't beat it! There are also good specials each day on beer, margaritas, sangria, etc. In other words, one night margarita pitchers are on special while the next night sangria pitchers are on special. I also want to mention that there is an ice cream bar! Sign up for their e-club online and receive a $5 off coupon. In this location, they offer a Max & Erma's club card. This is different from the online club. The club card earns you different specials each time you eat there and a free cookie during your birthday month. We have received $5 off, free appetizer, free fried pickles, etc. The restaurant is located next to a movie theater and offers discounted movie tickets for sale.

Very disappointing experience. Used to go to the one in Downingtown and thought it was great. They closed down. We happened to be in the Oaks area so decided to give it a try. Nothing like I remembered. My fish tacos were overcooked and dry. Not a single person in our party of 8 liked or finished their meal. Won't try this place again.

We like to believe we set our expectations properly when dining at family, chain restaurants like Max and Erma's, but when we dined at Max and Erma's in Oaks, Pa it was hard to find our experience acceptable. We first noticed that the utensils and plates were either water-stained or had a greasy film on them. The service was friendly and our entree salads and kids meals were good and consistent with other locations. Unfortunately, the wait for the two entree salads and 2 kids meals was about an hour and 15 minutes. We then had to wait about 15 minutes more after ordering the kids ice cream for the ice cream bar, which consisted of 1 scoop in a dish. All in all, a two hour dining experience at this restaurant should only be if we choose to spend that long. There are too many other similar restaurants to give this another try.

A large group of us were in the area for the weekend for an event at the expo center and after long day of set up, we were in need of food! Max & Erma's was within walking distance to the Hilton Garden Inn, so off we went! We were seated almost immediately for a group of 20. Not bad! Their menu has a wide variety of offerings but it's mostly American stuff like burgers, steak/ribs, and salads. I had the Apple Pecan salad. It was pretty good except after a while the dressing just overwhelmed it and it became a soggy mess. BF had the ribs, and they were pretty decent. Overall it was a pretty affordable meal after all was said and done! Avg about $11pp!

We come here often, truly enjoy the All American Combo, which is a great value for a salad, cheeseburger and a cookie. Also enjoy their classic sirloin with the yummy seasonal veggies. They have some great tasting dishes. The staff is awesome. They are very friendly and helpful and treat you better than some higher end restaurants in the area. I've noticed too that they work together very well helping one another which steps up the service you receive. We have been coming here regularly for about 3 years and consider it one of our top goto places to eat.

I have crossed this place several times, while going to work. But never had the urge to try, until I got the groupon. As everyone is saying here, this place is par with Applebee's and Chili's. My friend and I visited this place, thought of having a dinner and catch a movie. Not so long wait. We ordered a veggie burger for myself and a swiss, mushroom burger for her. They had sangria special, hence my friend ordered one. We also got fried pickles, to go with my beer. But they were really salty, and turns out to be the only downside. Other than that, the customer service was good. We also got discounted movie tickets, which saved us some money at the box office. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and we will go back again.

Average Food. Friendly environment. Nice service if maybe a little pushy. Good burgers and fries. Not for the calorie conscious. Quick lunch with fried pickles. We come here sometimes when we are in the area for other reasons but not a place I would go out of my way to go.

Went here with my brother and all the kids after a fun couple of hours at skyZone It's really close by, nice selection, good food and a friendly staff. I was surprised to see it hadn't been rated better in Yelp. If your looking for a 5 star dinner, this is not your place. If your looking for an alternative to Applebee's, them this place is a winner. Id go back.

The last time I was there there were some real douchebags trying to sneak into seats rather than wait their turn. The wait wasn't even that bad, of course I was lucky enough to get a spot somewhat close to the door and the buzzy thing work out that far. I never very my order here. Cheeseburger, fries, tortilla soup, and chocolate chip cookie. PERFECT! The tortilla soup is fabulous!

  • Kevin D.

For the price, atmosphere and location, it works. Always good to grab an entree, some cookies and discounted tickets for the movies. For a franchise, I'd say the food is quality. I personally always get the Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich. Delish! And the cookies...are pretty awesome. Warm. Fresh. Good to take home if you're full. I mean, seriously, how many people actually order dessert anymore? Next time you're headed to Regal, stop by. Just get there early enough. You will be waiting. But again, for being conveniently located by the theater, it works.

We pass this shopping center all the time coming from Philly to the western suburbs. So it's really nice to find a place we can grab a quick lunch. And there is always a voucher online somewhere, perfect. This is kind of what Applebees would be if there werent a million, of them. Good bar/pub type food and pretty reasonable on the pricing (even without my groupon). Salad, burger, and fresh cookie for $8.99? Sounds bout right to me. Definitely not a place I'd make a special trip to eat at, but if you're passing through Oaks on 422 it's a good bet for a great lunch.

A decent place for a quick bite to eat. It offers standard American food, but I find it to be reasonably well prepared. I have always received good service and usually get seating fairly quickly. This is a great place to take kids; has a decent kids menu.

I have been eating at Max & Erma's since it opened at least 3 times a month for lunch and or/dinner. The food is always wonderful, the staff very attentive. You can sometimes do a call ahead, but they may have stopped that for dinner time. It can get backed up on the weekends if there is a show at the Expo or a popular movie playing. My favorites are the Black Bean Burger, the Laredo Steak, the Tomato Mozarella Chicken Sandwich, Tortilla soup and the Apple Pecan Salad with Grilled Chicken to name a few!! And the breadsticks are the best!!!

  • Jody A.

Yuck. The Pretzel appetizer was warm and would have been good if it didn't have so much salt on it that it was inedible. Beyond that nothing was really good, the waitress was disinterested, the decode was a sad TGI Friday's ripoff that was unsuccessful and it all cost a little more than it seemed like it should have at an establishment of this caliber. Will not be returning.

I all but stopped going here...even tho its so close to work...I'd rather go a little farther and be happier with my consumer dollar, not to mention my lunch ;) Many places close by in Phoenixville or the new shoping center in Collegeville. Down to 2 stars...

had to grab some lunch before my meeting in Oaks, PA. typical all American menu but this place is GROSS. asked the waitress to recommend their best dish and she said to try the nacho soup and fish tacos. the soup was literally a dip...love nachos but I don't prefer to drink it. fish tacos were flavorless and overly fried. would NOT come back and rather grab a sandwich nearby. it gets 1 star because it's near Target and I was able to get some shopping done before my meeting.

We used to eat at this location a few times a year, whenever we'd make the haul from the LV to KoP to do some shopping. Now that the LV has more shopping, we just don't head that way anymore. Sadly, we don't have Max & Erma's in the LV, so I'd not eaten at one in over a year before my visit last weekend. First impression: it was cold! Like ridiculously cold. I briefly thought about heading back to the car to get a blanket to wrap up in cold. Everyone you looked at was shivering. They really need to fix their HVAC. Or perhaps they like to watch us develop goose bumps? Our waitress was friendly enough. She got our drinks quickly & took our order without issue. I started out with their tortilla soup, which didn't taste as good as I remember it. I'm guessing it's that my tastes have matured, but perhaps it was a bad night in the soup kettle. My club was tasty, so I didn't leave hungry. My husband went with a 10 oz burger with fries, both of which he thought were pretty tasty. The burger was moister than our normal chain standby, Ruby Tuesday. The fries were pretty blah. We got in right around 4:30, so we had no wait. If you are coming during a meal rush, make sure you call ahead to get on the list. That'll shave half off your wait (if it's an hour when you walk in the door but you are on the list, it's only 30 minutes). Would I eat here again? Yes, if I was in the area. But I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It was decent for $20.

My wife and I were at the Oaks shopping center checking out some furniture. Afterwards we wanted to grab some lunch. I wanted to go to somewhere in King of Prussia on our way home, but time was limited and Max and Erma's is right in the shopping center. It looked decent enough so we went there. The place smelled like the day after a frat party: stale beer, unclean. The bathroom was pretty nasty. They also have a "make your own sundae" bar. The stuff was all over. I wouldn't go near that thing\ and I certainly would not have let my kids go near it. The service was fine and the burger I got was pretty good and so were the fries, but I barely got any. The food was good for that type of place. It was really the smell and lack of cleanliness that made it an unpleasant experience. And the staff was nice enough but they all looked unkept. Young kids with unkept facial hair. I wouldn't go back. I'd rather head up 422 and hit KoP.

Pretty good. Best bet in the area if staying nearby.

This is basically a carbon copy of chain restaurants in the "Ruby Tuesday/Applebees" tradition. Family-friendly dining, decent prices. The food is typically fair, failing to dazzle but at the same time not a train wreck either. Nothing special here really, except for...well, I'll get to that. There is a very processed look to the food. The chicken breasts look like they were obviously just taken out of the freezer and thawed out in the microwave. The wait is usually longer than we're used to, which is a big problem considering the food is nothing worth waiting for. The best thing about this place is the thing that saves it from being a "1 star" restaurant....that is, the fresh oven-baked, melt in your mouth chocolate chip cookies. Oh man, major kudo's to whoever came up with that idea. This place is worth going to JUST to pick up some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to go.

After seeing a movie (Ratatouille) at the megaplex, my wife and I were starving. Something about seeing animated rats serving up French delicacies really made us hungry. Were we in for a shock. The place was filthy! Upon entering the doorway it smelled like a bum had barfed up his last meal on the carpet, and it looked like it too. A couple of alleged staffers were sitting at a table, but since neither even glanced at us (we are 40+, maybe that was it) we beat a hasty retreat back to the parking lot. I wouldn't go back even if Bob Evans was the only alternative.

Their tortilla soup is the best around. You cannot go wrong with a burger and a beer here.

If you like the chains like TGIFriday's and Chili's then you will probably love Max & Erma's. This particular one is relatively new to the thriving Oaks/Audubon area and probably about 2 years old. This restaurant chain is popular across the country and this one isn't any different. The only thing that sets this food chain apart from TGIF's and Chili's is the service. Hmmm, I've heard that before. I usually go to this place for lunch since work is relatively close and they are pretty quick about getting you in and out. It is your classic chain restaurant, with average Americana style food, but no deals, such as burgers, wings etc. The tortilla soup is definitely worth trying. The food is so-so and in some cases below average (their hamburgers have been pretty greasy a few times ). I usually order their appetizers as they seem to be the best things on the menu besides the salad selection. I would have given it only one star if it wasn't for the great service.

Third time I have eaten there in the past few years. This time was very bad. Service took a long time. I did not actually time the difference between ordering the main meal and arrival, but it was at least 30 minutes. I had two other adults and three younger children. No one was really impressed. Restaurant was not crowded. My burger was very bland, not hot. I won't be going back.

I grew up in Columbus where Max and Erma's began and reigns supreme for burgers (aside from Thurman Cafe.) We frequented M & E's whenever we needed a burger and onion ring fix. I was so excited when one opened here. Sooo disappointing. My burger was so dry it was almost inedible. Nothing like the juicy, drippy, falvorful burger I was used to. And the onion rings, which are not quite traditional, but should be light and flaky, were soggy and cold. Guess I'll have to get back to the C-bus for the original.

Not much to say. The food is ok, the service is ok, there's just nothing to distinguish the place from any other restaurant. Well, the fresh baked cookies are pretty good, but other than that, nothing to speak of. I haven't been back in over a year, so that pretty much sums it up.

    (2)
  • Dan B.

The sandwiches are slightly above average. Especially like the buffalo chicken sandwich. M&E's has been about 50% on service in the times I've been there. There were times that the order was screwed up or it took forever with the check. The one thing that makes up for the service is the chocolate chip cookies. Fresh and hot out of oven, they really make the meal.

one word: COOKIES! otherwise, i've definitely had better burgers and such but those cookies! they're to die for. the staff is usually somewhat slow though and that ice cream bar thing in the bath tub is always FILTHY. theres always jimmies and m&m's halfway through the restaurant like, can't you pay someone of your lousy staff to sweep up?! please?

This is a good family restaurant. I went there with a friend after shopping at the Target just a few steps away. It was my first time here, but I was convinced to go when my friend told me they served you fresh baked cookies for desert! Yum! Since it was my first time, the menu was a bit overwhelming. There is a huge selection of sandwiches, burgers, ribs, seafood and salads to choose from. There were also quite a few specials priced below $10. I chose the small sized garbage burger. (You can get a 10oz or 6oz burger). Basically, the garbage burger has just about everything you can imagine on it: 3 different types of cheese, guacamole, marina sauce, two strips of bacon along with pickles, onions and tomatoes. It was just so many levels of high calorie wrong, but it was very good. It was also quite filling. I have no idea who could eat the 10z one and not be comatose from overeating. I had my burger cooked medium well and had the seasoned fries. I expected tastier fries and, honestly, they were just so-so. I also ordered iced tea with lemon. I got it but with just a couple of ice cubes, so it got warm real fast. The waitress gave me another glass later on but I had to wait a few passes to get her attention for more sweetener. However, we were there right before the dinner rush and I sensed she was very friendly but young. I can't subject her to the same standard I would a waiter or waitress in a 5-star restaurant. You get what you pay for ;) The cookies were awesome: fresh baked and warm. I mean the one I ate was so good that I actually drooled. Drooling while out dining? Embarrassing but proof that your taste buds are happy ;) So, excellent burger, awesome cookies, so-so fries and warm iced tea. It was an okay experience. I'd go back for the burger though. That was tasty messiness.

Max and Erma's can be lumped together with Applebee's, Chilis, TGIF's and other similar restaurant chains. However, when I think Chili's, I think El Presidente Margaritas, when I think Applebee's, I think double up appetizer specials, when I think of Max and Erma's I think....cookies? They advertise their cookies as something special. Yeah, they're good, but I'm an adult. I occasionally go there for a drink, which has to do more to its proximity to the movie theater. Still, the staff is friendly and if you're hungry and need a drink before you hit the movies this place will do the trick.

Been there more than a dozen times over the past 5 years and aside from one or two occasions, it's been a good experience. Just noticed a lot of the below comments seem to be from 2008, it's gotten better since then so it could be worth a try. Pros: The Laredo steak w/ the cactus butter is heavenly enough for me to break my vegetarian efforts. Right off the highway and there's a movie theater in the same lot (they have a dinner and a movie deal) so it's a cute casual date place. They usually have excellent service. We have only had one really bad experience (along with the tables next to us) and we don't think that waitress is employed there anymore. The managers usually make it a point to stop and say hi to the point where one of the managers knew our names. The freshly baked cookies are awesome and a great treat after dinner. They do have a sundae bar and kids seem to enjoy it. Cons: Not much of a menu selection. We've been there with vegetarians and I myself have gone there attempting to find vegetarian options but was very limited.

The food is okay, it's what you expect, nothing to good nothing to bad. The service is what got this two stars. We asked how our servers day was and she gave an unpleasant tone, then when ordering used the same tone. Our food took forever to get out to us, and when it did one of our orders didn't come out.

I haven't been back in over a year, so that pretty much sums it up.

one word: COOKIES! otherwise, i've definitely had better burgers and such but those cookies! they're to die for. the staff is usually somewhat slow though and that ice cream bar thing in the bath tub is always FILTHY. theres always jimmies and m&m's halfway through the restaurant like, can't you pay someone of your lousy staff to sweep up?! please?

A decent place for a quick bite to eat. It offers standard American food, but I find it to be reasonably well prepared. I have always received good service and usually get seating fairly quickly. This is a great place to take kids; has a decent kids menu.

OMG. The noise level is ridiculous. Food is pub fare standard. A little pricy. Not sure why but parents who allow their kids to scream, yell and throw things seem to love this place. Still don't understand why the restaurant doesn't address parents behaving badly. No need to go back. Once is enough.

The food is okay, it's what you expect, nothing to good nothing to bad. The service is what got this two stars. We asked how our servers day was and she gave an unpleasant tone, then when ordering used the same tone. Our food took forever to get out to us, and when it did one of our orders didn't come out.

Kind of average. Nothing bad, but nothing great either.
