I've taken the family there on a few occasions. My kids love the chocolate chip pancakes. I always get the Philly cheese steak with the works. The food is pretty tasty & the service always fast & friendly. I would recommend this place in summer or winter.

Love, love, love breakfast here. Great coffee, friendly service, & good food. Just started making it my new lunch spot. The cheese steaks are great & the turkey is real.

Address is actually 960 Main St, Newfoundland, Pa. Perfect home cooked breakfast, exactly what we were looking for up in the Poconos! Veggie Omelet was perfect!

Spanky's is our favorite place to go for Saturday Breakfast. We have taken our friends and family. Our five year old grand daughter loves to go. Everyone is friendly and makes you feel at home. The food is delicious. Connie C.

I love this place. The breakfast tastes like the farmer's wife just made it for you. I am really picky a about my over medium eggs, crispy bacon, home-fries , and dark wheat toast. I can't even get it right most times when I fix it for myself. But the three times I have been to Spanky's they have been perfect. The service is good and the prices are much lower than chain restaurants. This is the real deal and not a bunch of yuppies trying to run a country diner. So you won't get any fancy fare here. Just outstanding country eats!

I got my yelp account so I could write this review, it's unbelievable how RUDE and AWFUL the service was here at Spanky's! It took 20 minutes for the waitress to even look at my table. They barely cooked the food. Almost every plate came out incorrect. My waitress cared more about selling her own handmade candles than even giving service. DO NOT GO HERE!

Thanks to Yelp, we picked this place for breakfast on 10/26. We were looking for a good breakfast and we loved ours! Crispy bacon was delicious and so were our pancakes and Spanky's French Toast. Friendly staff and a nice country vibe served with a smile and pretty good coffee. Initially we chose this place because it was in the direction that we were heading. The next time we go here, we will be willing to drive out of our way for this spot.

Exactly, EXACTLY what you expect for a greasy spoon/diner kind of breakfast. Basic, filling, cheap. Service was awful, but it was a busy day-after-4th-of-July morning and the bus boy called out. People were so nice, though, for what it's worth!

Gotta try the biscuits and gray!

Good food for usual diner fare. Fast and friendly service too. The food comes out so fast and so hot you have to let it cool for a few minutes before you can eat it. I have to disagree with Carrie M. It's not cheap. I've been here for lunch several times and never left with a bill under $12 plus tip. And that's for a hot sandwich (burger, cheese steak, hot roast beef etc..) fries and a coke. The food is good but that seems kind of expensive to me. Or maybe I'm just cheap.

A very friendly restaurant with great food and fast service. Cash only, Not a problem, they have an ATM in the back if needed. I am sure they get a ton of out of vacationers but they treat people nice and are very easy to get a long with, they do take out as well. Prices are very fair. Great Place Period...

Such a cozy spot! I had the breakfast sandwich on a English muffin with cheddar. Nothing crazy hard to make but it was exactly what I wanted. The waitress/owner (?) was sincerely pleasant and shared little stories with us about the history of the place. For instance, how the licence plate decor was happenstance. Very lovely lady!!!

Ambiance/Decor/Atmosphere: Looks like a run down bed and breakfast inn from the outside, but there is some nice artwork on the glasses representing the establishment. The signage hanging is pretty cute too. Inside looks like a typical diner, but the seating could use major updating: paint is peeling off banquettes and chairs are a bit uncomfortable. Noise/sound level: It was pretty crowded this morning, but it's a holiday weekend so expect places around these parts to be busy. It wasn't very loud or distracting inside so your conversation will be fine. Menu: The menu is pretty small centered on breakfast and lunch. They serve minimal egg, pancake, french toast, and burger dishes. You're not coming here for out of the ordinary, just a decent place to get breakfast. Service: The servers were pretty attentive, friendly, and informative, no complaints here. Food: Five of us had cinnamon french toast, which was found enjoyable, and I had biscuits and gravy. The food was decent, but could have been a little warmer and seasoned a bit stronger. Bar: None. Price: Pretty cheap overall; competitively priced. Overall: Cash only joint that serves okay food; would go again if in the area.

This local's diner is very "authentic". Some old-timers and bikers at the counter, and it seemed like everyone knew everyone. The service was very good; however, when I got the bill, I noticed it wasn't itemized- just showed the total. Who does that?! The total bill was over $46 when it should have been around $35. Since we were in a rush I didn't make a big deal of it and just paid the bill. However, I couldn't help but think the extra charge was for "out of towners".

Really enjoyed the license plate motif. The bathroom sign is a penna license plate that says "his". The bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, plain white plastic siding on all walls with conventional fixtures. Ugh, get a 'hang in there ' poster at the very least! There are some blood stains above the sink, which adds a sense of mystery and intrigue to the whole place. There's is tp stuck to the toilet bowl, but don't worry, I didn't use it ! There is a nice window to view the parking lot. I ripped a huge dump

Very cute little place. Name can be misinterpreted by outsiders but this place is something out of a quaint little town movie. Employees allot of the youth from the area which is nice to see. Food is good old mother's recipes.

Spanky is great. Simple, classic, and satisfyingly greasy. Extremely nice people and welcoming environment. Felt right at home there from day one and now a semi-regular. Breakfast is solid and lunch the same. May I recommend THE BELLY BUSTER?! Small critics: They need to perfect the pancake mix a bit. The waffles are slamming but for some reason the pancakes come out almost too fluffy and not sweet enough. Oh and keep going with those license plates. Seal the deal! I wanna see that place covered!

  • Silver G.

I like it. It's a small town breakfast place. The portions are just about perfect. They do tend to overcook the bacon, though :( I wish they were BYOB, but early morning OJ and vodka drinking is "frowned upon" pretty often. Although I haven't EXPRESSLY tried it here-- yet! LOL

Great restaurant for families with small kids. We had a group of eight with two toddlers, the staff were extremely nice, and the service was fast. I recommend the Philly Cheesesteak with all of the toppings. For kids, the mouse pancakes were a big hit and come with blueberries. Please note they only accept cash.

I stumbled upon Spanky's on a motorcycle trip from Plano Texas to Rhode Island after camping overnight at Tobyhana State Park. It was a memorable breakfast of blueberry pancakes, bacon and coffee. The atmosphere felt like Cheers. Friendly staff and friendly patrons. The pancakes and bacon were yummy. A guy at the breakfast bar struck up a conversation and I learned about cabins and real estate in that area. Great find.

If I had a half star option I would certainly use it here because Spanky's is worthy of 3.5 stars. Some aspects of my experience would certainly warrant a full 4 stars. First, I will note that the Cinnamon buns are easily 4 + stars. I would also rate our server very highly. Wish i had caught her name, but she did a fantastic job throughout our meal in spite of the fact that she was obviously working her ass off. I came in for a late breakfast with 4 other hungover 30 somethings and the place was packed.. We waited a few minutes for a table and then got down to business. Our server was engaging, humorous and always around when we needed something. This just goes to show that service does not need to go to shit because your restaurant is busy. Other establishments and servers please take note. Most of us ordered some combination of eggs, cheese, vegetables, potatoes and breakfast meat. I did not hear much complaining from the masses and all of our plates were empty at the end of the meal. I would describe the food as solid breakfast without many frills. In other words, this is not big city gourmet, but it is good breakfast at a great price. Always happy to spend my money in a place like Spanky's.

The best Lake Wallenpaupack breakfast spot. Veggie omelet with cheese, onions in the homefries, wheat toast & coffee in a signature Spanky's mug. The end.

If you like country diners - this is about as good as they get. I've owned a vacation home in the area for quite a while and this place just can't be beat. (The fact that it's the only diner in a 12 mile radius makes it appealing, too). You won't be blown away by the food, but it's always what you expect from a basic diner. Margarine on the toast? Yup. But you can ask for butter. Onions in the homefries? Only if you tell them (and they always ask.) Decent coffee served quick from waitresses that always at least try to give you a smile. It's very local and sometimes very crowded. They'll probably notice if you're not from the area, but it would be a mistake to feel unwelcome. If you go early (and this place opens at like 4am in hunting season) you may be the only person not wearing camo, but you'll get good grub served with a smile. I think it's $2.75 for eggs, toast and hash browns. Add a couple bucks for bacon (or scrapple if you're feeling adventurous) and a dollar for coffee. You have to bring cash because they don't accept cards, but you don't have to bring a lot of it. The characters at the bar alone are worth the price of breakfast.
