The only thing that prevented me from giving this place 5 stars is their method of seating people. When you walk in, either in the bar entrance or the dining room entrance (which is new), there is a sign that says to wait for a server to seat you. They never come to seat you. You actually have to walk up to a server station, and give them your name, and then you have to hope that they recognize you to seat you when a table empties. If you don't know to do this, you'll be waiting all night, because nobody will say anything to you. The last time we were there we left, because there were about 10 people waiting to be seated, and there were about 4 large tables empty, but nobody came over to seat anyone, so the wait would have been hours. I love Banko's, but I can't wait hours to eat anywhere. After a 20 minute wait, we left. I have eaten here many times, and when our usual waitress is there (the girl with the glasses), we have no problem. The last night we tried to eat there, she wasn't there. It looked like a cook was filling in as a server (he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off), and there was a bartender running around the dining room. Now, on to the good stuff. The food here is AMAZING! You can't get a better deal on mini lobster tails (cooked perefctly)- on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they have a dollar tail deal- I usually get 10 tails, with Banko's own seafood seasoning blend and melted butter and lemon, an order of fries (they are hand-cut, and fantastic, and I love them drenched with malt vinegar and ketchup), a side of colesaw (some of the best in the area), an ice cold Yuengling draft pint, When I say ice cold, I mean ice cold. Now that is a beautiful meal! When we get served by our usual girl, the service is perfect. If she isn't there, and we stay, the service is mediocre. There are not many places that I will return to if I don't like the service, but for this place, I just can't help but make an excepetion, and take my chances. It's one of my guilty pleasures.

Good deck bar, with great jute box, pool table and plenty of monitors! Bar food, tasty, good service. Indoor resturant also, but the deck bar is the best! Fried oysters, bloody Mary's, salad, clams good time. Gladly return when in the area

We arrived and entered the dining and were given a buzzer. Had about a 45 minute wait and were told 30. Bar side is smoking and it's awful so we waited outside.music selection is great for the atmosphere. We started with peeled rock shrimp which were very good and exactly as described. We ordered the warm water tail stuffed. The lobster was ok. Seemed slightly over cooked. The stuffing was excellent with lump crab and very little filler. The stuffing was the best part of the meal. My husband disliked the parsley topping in the lobster. The French fries were ok. The mixed veggies were ok.

Got a chance to eat here while in Wilkes Barre for a business trip. I am *VERY* happy that I did, the food was fantastic! And the prices blew my mind, they were well beyond reasonable. Let's just say, the same dinner at a place back home would have easily been at least twice as expensive...and possibly not near as good. Quick note - the service was fine, not great. No complaints from me on that front. On to the food - the table shared some stone crab claws and crawfish appetizers. The stone crab app came with 8-10 pieces of stone crab, tasted nice and fresh. The crawfish was the surprise hit at the table, as some of my fellow diners were unsure of eating crawfish. But, they were delicious! They come to the table swimming in a delicious concoction of various cajun-leaning spices, leaving the crawfish nice and spicy! I could have poured the whole thing over some rice, and called that dinner. Entrees were all also very good, big portions, really fresh seafood all around. The king crab legs I had were great, and a steal for the price. And all those reviews of the crab cakes are not kidding - they are huge, and packed full of crab meat, and not a lot of other junk. I could not care less that this place looks pretty divey, I will happily come back next time I find myself in NEPA for another great meal!

Waited for an hour for a table after being told 20-30 min. Then it took forever to get the food wound up being there for 3 and a half hours. On top of that the prices are crazy. Hate to break it to you you are not Coopers. $20 starting price for an 8 oz lobster tail! Nuts. Top it all off with 2 people got sick the next morning out of our party of 6. Not that good odds for you if you not a fan of Sharting your brains out the next day. Needles to say I never plan to go back.

Well, from time I walk in with a negative feeling about the place, I have to say my opinion has change some.( see my tips on this place). At first impression, I couldn't wait to leave, crowded and waiting 10 minutes just to put my name for a 20 minute wait. We were seated upstairs, we had a great waitress, Alyssa. The food was good, and generous. My family enjoyed. It turned out to be a nice b'day dinner. I'm not sure if the alcohol had a hand in my opinion but the food was good too. I am thinking I may return to see if the return trip is just as good.

Went to eat there on Saturday the 18th, we waited an hour and a half just to be seated. There were numerous tables that were dirty and in sight and left that way the entire time that we waited to be seated. There is no additional seating for customers while they wait for a table either, awful for the elderly and pregnant! After we sat down the appetizers took another 30 minutes, I will say that the food was delicious. However, I check my bank account on Sunday morning and I was charged twice for my dinner, I called five or six times Sunday being promised that I would get a call back from the manager...which never happened!! I called again on Monday, never received a call back, she finally calls me today...Tuesday the 21st, 3 days later!! I discussed the situation with her and she started getting a very bad attitude, making excuses for the lack of communication on her end and for why she didn't bother to make a phone call back to me she can rectify the situation and then requested that I send her my bank statement. She still cannot understand why I was so upset at the situation, I explained her that it's poor management skills to call the customer who you screwed out of $37 and cry about your personal issues and how you work six days a week and that's why you couldn't return my phone call because she's entitled to a day off which I proceeded to tell her she is entitled to as many days off as she wants but if she just stated she works six days there's no reason why she couldn't call me back one of the three days since I notified the business of the incident. I send the bank statement to her and now it's just sitting on their fax machine. Still no resolution to the double charge of $37 to my account. Will never eat there again! I do not recommend this place to anyone!!! It's a shame that the "manager" lacks the skills to run an establishment such as Bankos, the place could be a goldmine if they had enough staff that didn't double charge customers, a seated waiting area, a huge reduction in wait time to be seated and enjoy the food and atmosphere, and a better manager! Downright awful!!!!

Amazing food!!!! We had rock shrimp, Cajun crawfish, alligator bites, slipper tails, crab claws and their signature dish crab cakes which were absolutely amazing!!!! Gets crowded so get there early if you can. Highly reccommend!!!!

I agree that the service is pretty slow. But the food is worth the wait!!! Crab cakes are huge and delish! The Rock Shrimp are a tasty appetizer (tastes like lobster). We will definitely revisit. Prices are very reasonable for a seafood restaurant.

The biker people who frequent Banko's are actually pretty nice, by the way! I used to enjoy eating at Banko's. The service seems like it has improved, as have the fries. The chicken is not as good anymore. The restaurant is nice, but a little cramped. Both toilets were broken in the ladies' facility during my last visit. Boyfriend found seafood to be a hit or miss, depending on visit.

4.5 stars. From outside the place looks like a motorcycle lover's paradise and the bar itself is really smoky and crowded and has a tough-ish crowd, or so it seemed to my neurotic mother. When you walk into the actual restaurant there isn't really a place to "wait" for a table and it's a little overwhelming. But the 4.5 star rating is really focused on the quality, quantity, and overall freshness and taste of the food. We had the $2 dozen steamed clam special which was incredibly fresh although slightly overcooked. Let's be real though, the melted butter you drench them in will coverup the slightly overdone texture. I ended up ordering the crabcakes for my entree since my mom had been RAVING about them. As I was milling over the menu though - kid you not - 3 others guests dining at other tables were shouting to me telling me to try them and that they were absolutely amazing. So I did. And I can honestly say - hands-down - that they were the absolute *best* crabcakes I have ever had. Not only were they enormous (I ate half of one and was full), but it was filled with juicy lump crabmeat and barely any filler (which I think was a little of dijon mustard, a pinch of mayo, and spices). These blew all other crabcakes I've eaten out of the water. No matter what beach I've been to or what fancy seafood place, Bankos in good ole' Nanticoke has the best crabcakes you will ever eat in your entire life. Promise. I also had some coleslaw and fries - coleslaw in all of it's mushy deliciousness and the fresh-cut fries that reminded me of the kind you'd get on OCMD's boardwalk with Old Bay seasoning on the side. Just to note what I didn't like: Our server was overwhelmed, had a slight attitude when we asked for silverware, and when she brought my fries out some of them accidentally fell off the plate and onto her serving tray. She "fixed" this situation by picking them up with her bare fingers and putting them back on my plate. Umm... gross. Go home. I really wish that part hadn't happened.

Food is great........if you have hours to spare. Full or empty, your waiting forever for your food. Not sure if it's worth it anymore.

Good service, okay food. I'm not a seafood eater generally, but my family enjoyed their lobster. The crab cakes were huge and filled with real crab. I had the fried chicken, which was not bad, but a little dry. The vegetable side was overcooked and unappetizing.

Overrated. The place is cute and goes all out with the seafood theme. My last visit however was a huge let down! Our fried shrimp appetizer was flavorless and soaking in grease, soaking. It actually mad me sick. Our dinners were served with cold watery FROZEN vegetables, if you could even call them that. And I couldnt get another beer to save my life.

Best crab cakes in the area. Even a fierce competition with the crab cakes at the beach. No filler huge lump crab. Kind of a dive bar from an outsider pov but worth the wait and the drive.

We were at J J Banko's several weeks ago. Banko's is an interesting place with an odd set up. I didn't like the seating arrangements upstairs with no backs on most of the seats. This bar/restaurant has it's ups and downs. The appetizer was good, we had the Gator Bites. We then split a large seafood sampler. This was plenty of food for two, with Lobster, shrimp, scallops, Rock Crab Claws, Mussel's, Clams and more this was an enjoyable plate. A little over seasoned with Old Bay after steaming had to scrape some off. The food was good over all. The service was decent not outstanding our waitress was inattentive and we waited twice for drink refills. I don't like the paper boats and it would seems nothing is served on plates at least not with this meal or that I saw while I was there. I would recommend this with a warning about the atmosphere and service. However, the food does beat out the major chains for the price.

For crabcakes to be even passable they have to be at least 85% crab and 15 % "cake." Banko's are 99% crab. That's hard to beat in my book. Besides that, they're huge - more than enough for two. Beer is reasonably priced and always ice cold. It this alone isn't enough for you, go somewhere else. Oh, about it being a biker bar. Most are white-collar bikers who like the biker look. The last time we were there, the most threatening looking guys I saw, I recognized as off duty state police.

Looking at the reviews on Yelp, it's hard to believe I just are at the same place. I had the shrimp basket (12.99) and it was pretty good. The fresh cut fries were great. My son had the crab (18.99) and it was awesome. My wife had the Maine lobster special. I think they should have split the lobster (18.99), but it wasn't over/under cooked. Unfortunately, that is an accomplishment in NEPA. Add in a calamari app and the total was only $63 (I find that an incredible bargain). As far as the calamari (8 or 9 dollars) goes; pass on it. It really made me think we were in for a crappy night. It was only rings and the sauce is literally a cold, dipping container of Hunt's tomato sauce. It was definitely the low part of the evening. It was literally state fair-level. That said, I was clearly much happier with my visit to Banko's than most other Yelpers. One helpful hit, park in the dirt lot. One of the drunken pricks in the bar hit and ran our car. Didn't see it until the next night. If you have any information on who hit my black TSX, let me know. Additional information - I went back twice since I made the first post. The second visit was fine. Good food, mediocre service. The third visit was a disaster. My son ordered a sandwich which comes with a "choice of two sides." What they don't tell you is your choice is fries and cole slaw. Then food came and my wife and I both had fries that were room temperature. They had to have been put on the plate before my shrimp and my wife's fish were even started. My wife's fish was beyond over-cooked. My wife said that I should say something about the fries. I decided I would complain if the waitress came back before I was done. Big surprise, she didn't come back until I was long done. I'd give this place 4 stars twice and 1 star once, so that averages to three stars. The only problem is, how do you know which restaurant you're gonna get on which day. I think for me, it's time to take a break from Banko's.

After writing my first review on Banko's, we were looking at real estate a block away and decided to give it another try. I had the crab cakes and Michael had the "pork wings". We shared 5 of the baby lobsters at $1.50 each. The lobsters were fine, a bit mushy but average. Not a bargain, but an o.k. appetizer. I decided to try the crabcakes after reading so many reviews on this site. To me, they were on the low end of average. I will say they were served piping hot on a metal dish which they stuck to. They must be put in a hot oven to finish them. They were very large and very brown. Although they were more than any one person should eat at one sitting, bigger is not better. Michael and I shared one. They were rather flavorless and very, very dry and no sauce was served with them. I'd suggest making a smaller crab cake, more crab and less filler, don't over cook and lower the price. These were $24.99 and not worth it. Conversely, Michael had the pork wings and this was perhaps the best dish in the seafood joint. Although one could tell that they are always precooked having that "leftover" kind of taste to the meat, they were served piping hot. They were tender ( due to the type of meat), doused in bbq sauce (a bit too much actually). For $12.95 this could possibly be the most satisfying dish they offer.

The crab leg special on Wednesday's and the cheap drafts are enough to keep me returning to this golden nugget. Although the biker scene may seem off putting to some, if you mind your business and concentrate on good drink and food, you'll be sure to return. A must see when in the area!

Recently remodeled. Nice layout, more seating. Very popular with the locals. Get there by 4 PM on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Noted for rock shrimp, scallops, $22 crab cakes platter, pictured. Hardly any filling. Just enough to hold the cakes together. I took one of the crab cakes home and made two hefty sandwiches out of it. Friendly service. Smoking allowed in the bar area, which is closed off from dinning room.

Ive been to good places, and bad. Cant even give this a bad rating! Wish there were minus stars! If you like noise, fair food at best, terrible service then this your place. Oh, and did i mention it s a biker place? Wonderful ignorant my penis is bigger than your types. If you have any class, and no one here does, please..PLEASE avoid this dump.

Crowded, the food has gone downhill... Crab cakes burnt on the bottom!! Scallops burnt..... Bisque very little seafood in the bowls!! Not going back, not worth the hassle!!

Great food. Biker bar that welcomes everyone. Sometimes the place is extremely busy but that must mean something, right? I highly recommend the 20oz Cajun Ribeye. Everyone should try Banko's at least once.

My previous reveiw is below. The place has changed a bit since I last wrote about it. You can not get a baked potato OR french fries, so youre not constrained to JUST french fries, and you get coleslaw. The service was much better than our previous experiences. So I will say Bankos is moving up in the resturant world. I have been to Bankos three times. Each time I went I left up in the air as to how satisfied I was for a few reasons. Bankos is a very busy place, and is obvioulsy doing something right. That something is the food. The food is very very good. It is a seafood resturant, but they also have some burgers, steaks, ect. The rock shrimp are very good. My good friend loves the ribs, but I have never had them. The only issues I have are 1. A good portion of the menu is all fried foods. 2. You can get soup but they do not have salads so if youre looking for something light you may have a hard time. 3. You cannot choose your sides. Your sides will always be french fries and coleslaw. That is what everything comes with. You will not find a baked potato or otherwise in the joint. 4. No hot beverages. You want coffee youre outta luck. 5. The service is notoriously bad from everyone Ive talked to who has ever been there and from my experiences. If youre gonna need two cokes, order them when you sit down. Expecting your beverage to be refilled may never happen. Good food, mostly unhealthy, sorta bad service.

The food is really good. They have all kinds of seafood and good specials. Its the only local restaurant that has maryland hardshells when in season. There is also a full bar attached. The service is extremely slow so don't go there if you are in a hurry
