I would like to update this. Went in last month and of course the food was great, and we had good service. It was later in the evening so that might have had something to do with it. One of the upsides to this place is they dont close the kitchen until 130 am which is a lot later then other places in the area.

Jack's seems like a great place in theory. It's a tavern, so they have a nice bar and a pub-style menu. It's near a University campus, so it probably gets a good amount of traffic. Oh, and it's pretty much the only non-pizza place for dinner within a few miles (and the only place within walking distance for Millersville students). So it should be at least 3 stars, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. I will not go to this place unless I'm being dragged there by my friends. Decor: They're going for that 'old time' classic look, with local memorabilia on the walls... but it sucks. The chairs/tables/booths look like they're due for some rennovation, and the place just screams 'senior citizen' when you walk in. The bar is sectioned off when you walk in (dining room on the left, bar on the right) and while it's a medium sized bar, it just doesn't feel right. The bright neon beer and liquor signs on the wall go way against the rest of the look, and it just feels strange. Service: If you're dining here, be expected to be neglected. From the moment you walk in it just doesn't feel very welcome. The waitresses (I've never seen a guy server) hang out at the booths nearest the bar and ignore you. Hint: even if you're going to sit and talk with your friends while your working, at least look over at my table once and while. The servers also don't like doing any kind of split check deal- maybe because their computer system makes it hard to do, but (coming from a former server) it's probably not that hard if you put the orders in correctly. Food: The burgers are OK. They DON'T come with fries. They come with a few chips (foodservice chips- despite central PA being the snack capital of the region with names like Utz and Goods) and a lonely pickle. If you want fries, they only come in one size: party size. However, they're 'shoestring thin' in a bad way: they come out so burnt that you can hardly taste potato in most of them. You'll say "wow" when they first come out, but end up leaving half the pile when you leave because they're just terrible. The other food on the menu is typical foodservice... like another reviewer alluded to, don't expect more than your High School Cafeteria. Heck, I've had much better food at the Hershey Park Employee Cafeteria than this place. The prices make it seem like it should be a lot nice than it actually is, but trust me, it's not worth the price. Drinks: I've only been to the bar a handful of times, and since I'm not much of a drinker I can't really comment on their selection. However, the whole bar is just weird... it's a mix of older people who seem like they didn't realize they went to a bar next to a college campus, and a bunch of college kids just standing around. The whole place feels confused... in what should be a fun, college atmosphere with an upbeat feel, the place feels like people are just having a few drinks before doing something more fun. As far as the prices... they're not cheap, but they do run an occasional special. All in all, unless your car dies in the parking lot, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for better food.

Our go-to local restaurant. It matters so much that the owner, Jack, is almost always there. It is the cure for the chain restaurant. The wait staff work like dogs and the place is always packed, even on off nights, which speaks volumes. Best thing on the menu is the baked potato soup which must have a comma in the calorie count. Kids might like the hot dog, which someone in the kitchen carves 'JACK' into then grills. It's the little touches, n'est c'est pas?

This place blows. Bar is a small horse shoe, usually half filled with grungy locals. I went here while at Millersville. They enjoy permanently kicking people out of the bar, thus why their profits have most likely declined over recent years. Food is lame. Generally fried and very greasy. Dining room is the opposite of classy. Service sucks.

Typical bar food. Food is good but prepare for noise, wait, and nothing special. Oh yea if you think a big plate of fries is special. College town crowd.

Jack's has a monopoly in the Millersville, PA bar scene and for this they should be thankful. Food: The wings are good, burgers are great, and the potato skins have entire pieces of bacon on them (awesome). Most are relatively priced, and big portions can be expected here. Drink: There's usually 5-6 beers on tap, and a fridge full of bottles, cans, and six-packs, if that's your thing. They always have a ton of Four Locos as well (I'm not sure who actually drinks this beverage; it seems strange that they have so many). Also, on top of the bar is a stack of 5-hour energy shots, which Jack's mysteriously began stocking when the caffeine-laden Four Locos were banned in PA.. Atmosphere: As the only bar in this growing university town, one would expect to see more young people, but, for the most part, it appears the kids have long-since realized that they're better off drinking at home. Suggestions: Overhaul this place- Look at what the rebuild did for HoPie! The restaurant half of Jack's is awkward, and feels like the perfect place to play some bingo, so it's your responsibility to change with the times, man. Overall, Jack's is a great place to stop for a burger and a beer with some friends, but not often, and only if you can get over the smell of potential.

We just ate here. 2nd time we have been here. I had Tenderloin Tip Sandwich, boyfriend had Roast Beef Sandwich, as appetizer Fried Ravioli (14) as an appetizer.. Absolutely fantastic. Jack's is known for their fries (huge portions home cut fries). All of the food was great. No complaints. Staff very attentive and friendly. Last time my boyfriend had a Pepper Jack Hamburger, I had Parmesan Chicken Sandwich. Food just as good. Staff just as friendly. We like the food an the service. We will be back. Fried Ravioli, Mozzarella Sticks, Roast Beef Sandwich, Tenderloin Tip Sandwich and Chicken fingers $ 44.00 not bad!

Friendly staff, and enjoy talking to the bartenders. It's within walking distance to my apartment, so it's great to not worry about driving back. And it's great having a beer after class with friends to take the edge off after a tough exam! As others have said, it's impossible to get a SIDE of fries with your sandwich. They come in only one size, large. So large, that it's difficult for one person to eat it all, but great for sharing while imbibing. But I have seen a few baskets of barely eaten fries thrown in the trash. Kind of sad and wasteful. Spoke to a manager about this, and the story is that the owner (Jack) does it for notoriety sake, that Jack's is the place where you get a huge order of fries, and that you can only get one size of fries. Understandable. Some tidbits: - Ordering the wings extra crispy (finished under a broiler) is fantastic. I like the Italian-style wings. - It's an interesting crowd of University employees, students, and MU borough residents. - Everyone goes to Jack's when they turn 21. It's pretty amusing. - Order ahead for pick-up and a good selection of 6-pack cans and bottles to go.

Great food for good price. Sadly my son flunked out of MU so I probably wont be going back since we live in Lopatcong NJ. My wife adores the potato and bacon soup, its a meal in itself. Warning, only order the fries if you have four people as the portion is obscene. After a little thought, it might be worth the ride back for old times sake.

Typical dive bar in a college town. The staff is wonderful, the good always seems to hit the spot, the the bartenders don't hold back on their pours. If you want a few drinks with friends, this is definitely the place to go.

Jacks will always hold a special place in my heart. Not much of a selection but everything they make is delicious. I recommend their giant plate of fries with all the toppings and their crab dip. For late night drinks get their Alabama slammer...best I've ever had.

I was excited to try Jack's after hearing good things about their food. I've actually eaten there twice in the past two weeks. The fresh cut french fries are consistently good, and not over-fried to the point of being gross and greasy. They are the best part of the meal for sure. On my first visit I got a roast beef club and was happy with it. The roast beef seemed good quality and the cole slaw was tasty. I also tried the crap dip appetizer, which was okay. No lump meat in it which was disappointing. On my second visit I decided to follow the advice of some of my friends and got Tenderloin Tips a la Jack (also available in sandwich form). This is supposedly pieces of Filet Mignon, and covered in sauteed onions and American cheese (I asked for no mushrooms but they are normally included). I was not impressed with this meal. It seemed like an entire onion was dished onto my plate, the meat was tougher than Filet ought to be, and the cheese was just too rich. My own fault for thinking American cheese would work on an entree like this -- it would be much better with cheddar or swiss. My wife's grilled chicken salad was good however, and I would highly recommend the chicken based on trying hers -- it was nicely marinated and moist. Overall this is good food, but we may limit ourselves to fries and sandwiches in the future.

Going to Millersville University it is nice to have a good sit down restaurant near by. I have been there many times and have always had a good experience. For a few dollars you get a huge plate of fries and another dollar you get loads of cheesy goodness. The burgers are really great. You'll be hard pressed to find another burger place in Lancaster with a burger as good as Jack's for a better price. The waitress are always nice, I have even had waitresses that remember my order from the last time I ate there. I suggest this place if you're in Millersville, its a great eat.

Been here a few times, and last time I was here had a bad experience. It was a week before my auditions for faire, and I was hoping they'd be fast so I could get home to practice my monologue, but nooooooooooooooo! Everything went wrong that night. Tonight though, better experience, the fries were perfect. the Chicken Tenders could have used a little less salt, and the guy serving me and my mother and neighbor was cute and friendly. I think if I were to go back, I'd just get a huge plate of fries since they're very cheap. I will be completely honest, this is place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's really good, sometimes its really bad...

I've been here a few times and really, the quality of the food they serve is below Marriott High School Cafeteria grade. On my most recent visit, my meager grilled chicken sandwich came with a white bun and approximately seven potato chips. Thankfully we ordered a plate of fries which was ample and came with Velveeta on top, which filled up my stomach if nothing else. The service was nice, though, and they tried hard, and were generous with the free refills on soda and tea.

Surprising that it's the only bar in Millersville, and the only restaurant too unless you count pizza/chinese. Great atmostphere, plenty of bar and dining room seating. Drinks are fairly priced, food is awesome and there is plenty on the menu to choose from. Definitely get a plate of fries to share for your group!

Come for the steak tips and fries, leave when the incredibly loud students show up. Also, there are some locals that just hate anybody that looks like a college student. Also quite annoying.

Mmm... Jacks... Their fries are amazing, and get gravy with them. One of life's little pleasures. So yum. And a good place for lunch. Crab cake sandwich, etc.

Best wings in Lancaster County. And by wing, I don't mean those puny bite-size things most bars try to pass off as wings. Fries are good too :) and plenty of them so bring a friend.

My family and I live within 10 minutes of Jack's. When they were in Silver Springs a long time ago, that was our spot. When it closed, the existing restaurant became our haunt. I've been eating there for 20+ years and will continue to do so for an enjoyable meal at a fair price. Top picks include (but not limited to) Tips ala Jack Sandwich, the Steak Sandwich (really), the steaks and .... the Burgers (ala Jack, Malibu, etc.)! Plus, we are fans of the AMERICAN fries. The people have always been friendly and the service is always good.

If you enjoy shoveling heaping mounds if mediocre meat, fries, and gravy into your overstuffed gullet, by all means eat here.

be brief, made a special trip to eat lunch with family from out of state including two people near ninety years old. there was an extremely boisterous group of 22 waiting for their meals, whose drunken voices filled the establishment. we could not converse, waited an excessive time for our meals and received no apology from management. the server was good and felt bad for us. i would not go back, the food was not memorable either.
