I'd love to share my opinion...but the place has closed! Stopped by on a Saturday around 1:30 and windows are newspapered up with "closed" signs. Disappointing!!

Great food. We had cheese steaks, burgers and fries. Delicious Best tuna salad I've ever eaten!

Make sure you have time to wait, wait to get your order taken and get your check. For a family of 5 it was $44 for two kids meals, fries, two sub's, and 5 drinks. Better off at subway.

Excellent meat. Good prices. The pretzel bun was delish! Good service. Only downfall for water drinkers is they don't offer tap water. Lots of cool paraphernalia all around. This is the remains of my wife's cheesestake salad with sauerkraut, mushrooms & onions mixed in.

Best cheesesteak around!! Everything is fresh and served right away. Great prices and the staff is extremely friendly. It is a little cramped and looks like it's owned by a hoarder, but I actually LOVE the atmosphere! It totally adds to the entire feel. You don't just feel like a paying customer, you feel like a friend.

  • Keven M.

One of the best cheese steaks I have had in my life. The fries were awesome too. The girl who took my order couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. I wish there were more places like this around!

Okay so it looks like it could be a tourist trap... IT'S NOT!!! Excellent cheese steak and hand cut fries, inexpensive and super friendly. A must if you want a simple but good lunch etc.

Serious Triple-D action going on here. The cheesesteaks are great, though I had a fantastic, ridiculous, off the hook burger. If you want a double burger, you can get it even though it is not listed on the menu. Do they have a bad sandwich? I doubt it. I suppose you will have to try them all to find out. Sandwiches aside, this place has real french fries. Not the kind that come out of a box at the fast food restaurant. I mean fresh cut fries, fried to perfection. A medium basket was more than two normal people can finish (I suppose some college football players might have a chance). Add some chili and cheese, and you are talking a serious flavor explosion. It is entirely possible that it would be worth just ordering the fries, and nothing else. It would not be fair to skip the servers and ambiance. The service was great, and it was fast. We had a really great conversation with our server. The ambiance, well, it is a dive. A clean, eclectic dive. The walls are covered with signs, all of which appeared to be for sale. When you walk in, you think you have entered a convenience store, but I promise, walk a few steps farther and you will see the tables. You could definitely go just to read the signs on the walls. I understood that Hunt's was #1 on another review site, but had fallen in the rankings a couple of spots. Whoever it was that ranked someplace else higher simply has not visited Hunt's. Sometimes, there is no accounting for taste. Try this place out, you will not be disappointed.

Great find thanks to Yelp. Small and cozy place but the food packs a punch in the flavor department. Definitely would visit this establishment again.

Stopped in here on a whim, following yelp reviews. If we hadn't read Yelp reviews we probably would have turned around. Lol. It looks a little sketchy in there. Don't let that turn you around. We had a great burger, but in my husbands words, "the fries were magical!" They will be one of those foods that I think about later. We will definitely come back if we are in the area!!

  • Carrie S.

Great friendly service. Fun eclectic decor. The best cheesesteak sandwich I've ever had. Better then the Philly cheesesteak I had in Philly! They introduced us to french fries and vinegar. A great spot.

The food at Hunt's Cafe was amazing. I got the cheese steak and fries, it was definitely worth the wait. After a day touring the Gettysburg battlefield, this place really hit the spot. My friends and I came here after looking at a bunch of different restaurants on Yelp and it didn't disappoint. The place is a little small and it seemed that there was only one person taking orders and 3 people serving. However, they were all very polite and apologized for things taking a little longer than usual. My friends and I were on a time crunch, but we all understood that there were so many people there and only a few of them. But we did get our food relatively fast! I definitely recommend coming here and am coming back again when I visit Gettysburg again!

Love this place! I stop here every time I'm in Gettysburg. Friendly , family owned cafe, so yes it may take a little time, as the sign says outside it is not a fast food restaurant. So go to subway and get processed food if you want. The food is worth the wait.

    (5)
  • Ryan H.

Great little Cafe. Everyone, including the kids, loved the food. I recommend you stop in for a meal.

    (5)
  • Tan T.

The cheesesteak and cheese burger sub were really good. The bun was toasted perfectly, loads of cheese, and nicely priced for a 6" sandwich. Wait was short, friendly staff, and great fries. I would recommend this place.

  • Hingle M.

If you are visiting Gettysburg and need a quick homemade cheese steak or burger before you get back to the battlefield, check this place out! Great service and reasonable prices for a tourist town. The location inside an early 20th century home lends a feel of authenticity to your experience.

    (5)
  • Rob S.

Small, comfy, friendly people and environment. Milkshakes were thick and delicious, cheesesteaks also very tasty, should expect a wait because it's a very small place but well worth it. Excellent food, just not what we expected.

Came here yesterday after a day of sightseeing in Gettysburg. I highly recommend Hunts. My husband and I had the cheesesteak sandwiches, our family of 4 shared a med fry and that was plenty. I had fresh, and I mean fresh squeezed lemonade. My husband had the orangeade which was so refreshing. Our friendly waitress was very attentive and personable. I would go back when in the area. The owner came out and asked us how everything was and we talked a bit he was very nice. A lot of their decor is for sale too, mostly tin signs, old fashioned and newer ones. Thank you for a great meal! : )

  • Judy c.

Seating is limited - the wait staff is great and very attentive. A bit crowded for my taste . But if you looking for a quick and fast bite - this place is not bad.

  • Samantha P.

A very small, laid back, eclectic place. Stopped here on a whim. Only about 6 tables inside, a couple outside. Great bottled soda selection. Husband had a cheesesteak, I had a chicken cheesesteak, and we split fries. Husband said cheesesteak was solid, mine was good. Chicken chunks, not shaved. Not my favorite but still really tasty. Fries were fresh cut... gotta love that. Just go for the bucket. You can always pick at the leftovers later. Service was great. The young lady who took care of us was very friendly and attentive. Bill was a little high for the amount of food we got, but you're gonna pay those prices anywhere in Gettysburg. OVerall a great experience. Would definitely recommend.

Service was impeccable and fries were good. Price was reasonable as well. The typical Ma & Pa joint!

  • Karen B.

The cheese steak was great, so were the burgers and cheese fries, but the seating was cramped.

    (4)
  • Jim H.

I ordered the philly cheese steak sandwich with the battlefield fries. The food was good, not exceptional by any means. My wife must have been made at me that day. She had me taste her cole slaw which was terrible. The restaurant had great atmosphere and the waitress was very friendly.

  • Paul C.

Excellent food, great prices and loved the decor. Quite a comfortable and homey establishment. It is small inside - the four of us sat at two tables in the corner and against the window AC ... but that's part of the charm. We had burgers, grilled ham and cheese and tuna ... all on the pretzel rolls. Fries were great. All in all, it was an excellent meal!

    (5)
  • Julianne S.

We have visited Gettysburg many times but never tried this place. It is really cute inside. We just went in to get a lemonade and they were very friendly. The lemonade was really good too.

  • Peggy R.

Yum! Yum! Yum! We really enjoyed this little hole in the wall. My husband and I both ordered the Cheese Steak and a medium side of fries. We could have EASILY shared a small fry! the portions are generous and the service was great. The 'decorations" inside were really something to look at while you ate. We would return!!

  • Michael D.

We've been coming here since it opened in Gettysburg. The fries are great, the owners are super friendly and they sell the neatest merchandise that you won't find anywhere else in Gettysburg. Don't forget to try them for breakfast too.

  • Kelly D.

Love this place! Owners are friendly and accomadating. Place us warm and cozy with a million things to look at. I had a tomato and grilled cheese sandwich on a pretzel roll, the hubs had a cheesesteak and fries. I loved mine, with extra gooey cheese and ripe and juicy tomatoes. I needed extra napkins!! The fries were perfect potatoey perfection. My husband loved his cheesesteak, the large was so huge he couldnt finish it! Closed on Wednesdays.

This place was a nice surprise. Food was great, price was amazing, awesome atmosphere. Just well worth the trip in.

  • Ed P.

It's Boardwalk, not Broadwalk fries, but no matter how you spell it, they serve the BEST cheesesteaks and fries, bar none.

  • K S.

We had an hour wait for photos across the street. At 2pm we ordered lunch out front. We waited awhile for service. I noticed flies we're all about and one bit me. After the photos were taken across the street I noticed our plates had not yet been removed from where we had eaten. No wonder there were so many flies about.

Great service great food! Tiny little place - DON'T BE PUT OFF!! If you don't like your space cluttered, then don't come in here - simple :)

  • GingerSnap G.

Best cheesesteak subs ever. Note they are not called philly cheesesteaks. and i am not an expert on cheesesteaks. but having had ones in philly (pat & gino's) and many places in between, these are most flavorful, and delicious. I go over and over again and may hit them up again this wknd! Yes, the ambiance isnt the best. yes, the waffles with ice cream are 'meh'. Yes, they serve sodas in non descript styrofoam cups. I personally dont even like the fries, tho my bf devours them. But omg, the cheesesteaks are amazing! I'm surprised this place isnt more packed on the regular. Mmmmm.... cheesesteak!!!

  • Chris G.

This is a small sandwich shop with maybe 5 tables inside and two outside. The decor is mostly baseball hats commemorating US Naval Ships, old time Americana posters and autographs of the rich and famous. I didn't get the idea they were pushing this merchandise for sale rather it was just part of the atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the service handled our large group of 8! Fries were excellent and there was a large selection of condiments to compliment them. Cheese steak was excellent and came on a fresh slightly toasted roll which knocked it out of the park for me. Equally as good was the grilled cheese with bacon on a pretzel roll. If you are looking to sit and have a relaxing meal, this is not your place, however if you are looking to have a quick lunch with good service and excellent quality, this is your place!

As we passed through Gettysburg around lunch time, we reviewed the "hot spots" on Yelp. We are always looking for a good "hole in the wall", and this one seemed to fit the description. We were a little apprehensive upon entering, but after the great service we received and sinking our teeth into an amazing cheesesteak and chili cheese fries, the odd collection of military caps and random clutter didn't bother us at all...in fact it added to the overall experience in this charming little town.

  • The Teenage Old Soul ..

Only went here once. Got some amazing ice cream but nothing else. Yelpers are saying that the cheesesteaks are amazing. Really close to the Gettysburg main drag.

  • Mike M.

I had the beef cheesesteak and fries for lunch today. They were both very good. The sandwich had plenty of cheese and the beef and bun and grilled onions and lettuce and tomato and mayo made me very happy. Their fries are homemade and taste like it. If you like these two items you will like eating here. This is a small restaurant inside and has a few tables outside for dining. Closed on Wednesdays. I recommend!!

  • C K.

Be sure to try the fries ...fresh cut and fried in peanut oil. Yummy. Limited seating. Very interesting cafe. So glad we tried it.

This is the best food in town, every thing was so good. The service was wonderful the whole entire place was just amazing. I totally recommend this to anyone that comes to Gettysburg. My husband considers himself somewhat of a cheesesteak expert, he said this one was tops, and I agree with other reviews as well. The French fries are to die for. My hamburger was perfect and expertly seasoned. You can tell it's a family business and it's a good one. Two thumbs way up!!

On a road trip and Yelp guided me to this place. When you walk in you're not sure if you walked into a store or restaurant but apparently it's both. The service is super friendly, the place is clean and the food is delicious. I ordered the beef cheese steak and it's one of the best ones I've had. The 6 inch sub is just enough, if it was 8 or even 12 inches it would be too much. The merchandise all around are various kinds of metal signs from classic, to funny, to classic comic book covers. There are also hats from all different kinds of military service. But I would come back for the delicious food. Side note, the fries are separate from the sub and the portions are huge. I ordered small and it fed 2 people.

  • Jessica F.

Honestly not sure how this place has 4 stars. The "dining room" is dark and absolutely plastered with terrible tin memorabilia that doesn't even have anything to do with Gettysburg. It was honestly claustrophobic. The food wasn't terrible, but obviously none of it was fresh. The cheesesteak was made with ground beef and smothered in processed cheese with barely any peppers or onions. The fries were limp and flavorless. The only reason for the second star was our sweet waitress who was very kind.

  • Miguel V.

Just as advertised on Yelp... YUUUM!!! This was the BEST philly cheese I've ever eaten. Traveling for work has its good and bad, having restaurants like Hunt's Cafe makes it a little better. The Hunt's Cafe is a small restaurant that packs a punch. Two thumbs up!!!

  • Scott H.

Went there based in a locals suggestion. What a great choice. Great cheese steak sandwich and chili cheese fries. The fries are the best. Homemade fries hand cut daily. Highly recommend this as a must eat place if I the area. They also sell some military hats, stickers and novelty metals signs. Check them out.

This is a tiny hole-in-the wall cafe with its own casual-gawdy charm. Good was fairly reasonably priced, We wanted quick & casual & we got it. I had the cheesesteak salad: iceberg lettuce, hubby had a traditional cheesesteak. When in Phili, right?? If you're in Gettysburg and are hankering for cheesesteak, this is your place, especially if you don't mind a greesy-spoon diner.

    (2)
  • Jane R.

Great (bullet) hole in the wall place in downtown Gettysburg! We had a perfect union of cheese and fries, and the food came out faster than a cannonball. Generally speaking, you 'meade' to get one of their cheesesteaks. Albeit no free water for the soldiers..1 dollar coin per canteen.

  • Thibault N.

Probably the best fries I have ever eaten in the US! Typical, local, great place; not so many tables outside though.

  • Tina D.

I have brought so many people here to eat because it's that good!!! The owner is always courteous and kind. His staff is also friendly and willing to jump to get the things we need or want. The steak and cheese sandwich is consistently fantastic!! We also had the chili cheese fries....yummo!!!! U never disappoint!!!!

This place is a mishmash of retail store and restaurant, and excels at neither. My wife and I stopped in one early morning, hungry and desperate for food. We left with unappealing food that we threw out, and then we ended up eating elsewhere. The positives: There are a wide variety of low cost trinkets available throughout the store, although they seem to lack any central theme or strong relation to the Battle of Gettysburg, or the town itself. The staff seemed polite. There is breakfast available here when other options nearby are closed. The negatives: Few things for sale in the retail section are related to the Gettysburg or the associated battle in any strong way. Many of the items could be purchased at major retail outlet or online, with little value to them being showcased in the building. The store has a dark, claustrophobic feel, and food tables are placed in the middle of the store, which almost seems like a fire hazard. There is carpet throughout, and it gave me a damp, unclean feeling, as I kept wondering how they cleaned the floor with so much greasy food inevitably falling on it. The food preparation area did not appeal to me. My wife and I returned to our car and opened our food, and the smell and consistency of our breakfast sandwiches was so far from what we expected that we ended up throwing the food out. Conclusion: This place sells a variety of things, few of which go together. Sometimes a retail genius can pull this off. In this case, it is poorly executed. My suggestions for the owners: a) decide on whether to sell food or goods, and focus on unique, quality products; b) transform the interior so that customers leave with a memory of someplace warm and unique, rather than dank and dark.

A sunny spot on a rainy day. Hunts Cafe was a Great place to eat lunch. Decor is very casual and Americana. They also have a few tables outside. Great mixture of locals and tourists. This, to me, is a sign of good food. I ate the cheesesteak which was very good and filling. There was ample cheese and plenty of beef. My wife enjoyed her Ham & Cheese sandwich. The Chili Cheese Fries were delicious. The spices added to it made you crave for more. Perfect blend of cheese, chili and fresh cut fries. The small order is enough for two. Great place to eat and relax. The thoughts of the delicious chili cheese fries definitely make me want to come back when we get to Gettysburg again.

  • Nate J.

The cheesesteak was delicious. The fries weren't as crispy as I like but overall a good experience.

  • Hannah H.

My husband and I came here when we were in the area for work. I've heard of Hunt's Cafe being a G-burg local favorite, so I was pretty excited to try them out. The restaurant itself is kind of small, but I loved seeing the different memorabilia that was hanging around - old movie posters, prints, little figurines, signs, etc. We were seated at a table and our server, who so sweet and friendly, took our order. We shared the Steak and Cheese with a side of chili cheese fries, with the chili on the side. The steak and cheese was pretty decent with the melty American cheese, sauteed onions, and the well-cooked beef. The bread itself was nice and soft, and it came with a small thin sliver of a pickle. The fries were hand-cut, and the chili itself was okay, but more sweeter/tomato-based. We downed ourselves with some Hank's Gourmet Black Cherry soda, which was refreshing. I am glad we were able to check this place out! +friendly staff +decent Steak and Cheese +Hank's Gourmet Black Cherry soda

As the others said, good door and priced right. The pretzel roll grilled cheese with tomato was good. The Philly chicken sandwich was just ok. The chicken salad wasn't homemade, but it was good. The pizza burger was also rated as good.

    (4)
  • Gina C.

I have to give this place 4 stars just for the fact that they serve a "hot pretzel ice cream sandwich" which is pretty much a dream come true for my husband. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that you can pick up to 3 flavors of ice cream for your sandwich, for only $3.95. While the sandwich itself was anti-climactic, it was still a pleasant stop, and the service was good.

Awesome cheesesteak sandwich and fries. I also enjoyed the orangeaide drink.

  • Mike R.

The place has potential but wasn't my favorite. We stopped in on our way back from Hershey to NoVA after reading about the cheesesteaks on Yelp. Le girlfriend and I split a large beef cheesesteak and a medium fry and a birch beer. I tried to get a cup of water, but they said their tap water is bad, so I guess I can't blame them for not giving it out if it is bad... Portions on the fries were huge -- but I guess that's to be expected considering they were like $5. We could have gotten by pretty easily with a small I would assume judging from the size of the medium. That being said, they gave us a to go tub for our leftover fries (even though leftover fries in general aren't the greatest, I still ate them the next day). My main gripe was the cheesesteak. It was just bread meat and cheese. I'm not from around Philly or anything, so maybe I got mixed up notions in my head. But I would have liked to have something else in there like lettuce tomato or onions. At least some onions maybe cooked with the meat or ... something. Every bite was the same as the last so it was boring for me. I could have stopped after the first couple bites and my taste buds wouldn't have missed anything... but after spending the whole day at Hershey Park I was hungry so I ate the whole damn thing. To end on a positive note, the staff was really friendly. and the outdoor seating was good for people watching right there on the main st. I liked how they had a lot of "fry condiments" like vinegar in spray bottles and old bay seasoning, etc. If I were in Gettysburg again, I might stop in again, for the casual atmosphere, outdoor seating, and friendly staff.

Do you ever do something that runs contrary to your gut feelings? And afterward you think, "Dang it, my gut was right again!" Yeah, my visit to Hunt's Cafe was one of those times. A few reviews and tips for Hunt's Cafe hyped the Philly Cheesesteak. I thought, "Really? In Gettysburg? In a restaurant/store that looks like a tourist trap? Hmmm... Must. Keep. Mind. Open!" So In I went... Now I'm not from Philly, and therefore cannot be one of those annoying d-bags who says, "You have no connection to Philly, you don't know what a good cheesesteak is, so stfu you ignorant peon." After my visit here though, I felt I understood those type of people a bit better. How so? The roll here is too soft. It should be harder. The cheese? It was bland. Native Philadelphians would have been very disappointed in the cheese used here. In short: don't believe the hype. The cheesesteak is ok, but it isn't that great. It is just average (at least by the standards of a non-Philadelphian). The meat was GOOD and nicely sliced, so props for that. And skip the fries here. They're soggy and have no flavor to them. You'll have to go heavy with the ketchup (or vinegar if that's your thing). If you want something besides the cheesesteak? No idea, although my mom was fairly satisfied with her regular burger. In summary: reasonably priced food, friendly service (waitress was very nice), average tasting, and close to the Gettysburg Battlefield visitor's center.

I went to Hunt's based upon the Trip Advisor reviews and was very glad I did. I had a delicious cheese steak hoagie along with cheese fries and some fresh squeezed lemonade. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. The service was excellent and I almost went back the next day, but was too pressed for time. Interesting memorabilia for the decor. This place is a winner.

Prices were very reasonable, food was good and service was prompt. Enjoyed the cheese steak and fries. Had cool store with hats, unique bottled sodas and signs. The sweet Iced tea was the only disappointment as it tasted like it was made with an artificial sweetener.

Great meal and musical performance from the cook. Burgers were outstanding and you absolutely have to get the fries.

  • Ronetta C.

This place was amazing. Service was great, our server was very attentive to our needs. The food was very good, I ordered the cheese steak, fries and orangeade. The bread on the sub was very soft, definitely can tell it was baked in restaurant. The meat was flavorful and they were not selfish with the meat in the sub. The fries were cooked to perfection and the orangeade was very refreshing. I would like to go back and try their breakfast as well.

Stopped today. Sat outside for like 10 minutes without any assistance. Finally found a worker and told him we have been waiting for a while. He told us he would get a waitress and menus. 10 minutes later I went inside only to find him stocking water in the cooler. I reminded him and then a few moments later a waitress came out to take a drink order from a group that came in about 15 minutes after my party. Also during this time about a dozen people walked in to order takeout. So at this time I've been waiting for 20+ minutes and saw about 30-45 minutes of orders go ahead of me and I don't even have a menu yet and I'm with kids. Needless to say I left and went to Tommy's Pizza and Subs. Way bigger and better subs so I lucked out in the end. Oh, when I went back in to try and find some help I was standing by all of the random junk they sell in there and it was soooo dusty and gross. This place needs two things. 1- a system 2- either a dust buster or a match. I put one star because I accidentally bumped it.

A non-traditional take on the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is not to be missed! The tub of home cut fries will serve 6, and it's like playing a game of Jenga with your friends as you eat it!

This place is amazing! Fantastic fries and the homemade orangeade is great. Definitely with the stop. They have Old Bay you can add to your fries and plenty of vinegar. The staff is super friendly.

So much to look at!! Great mercantile charm, the hamburger hoagie was simply the best, what my mother called a California cheeseburger but on a hoagie roll, get it with a little mayo on roll and it will melt in your mouth.

  • Kristin C.

As others have mentioned, this place is jam-packed with merchandise (mostly military baseball style hats and metal signs). Some may find it overwhelming, but I thought it was kitschy and fun. I had the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato on a pretzel roll and it was excellent. Others in our group had the cheese-steak, grilled cheese with bacon and BLT and all were quite happy with their choices. The fries were good and you get a lot of them...a medium order was more than enough for two people. Prices are very reasonable. They also serve a very large variety of soda pop...can't beat an Orange Crush in a glass bottle!

  • Kevin B.

This is a really good place to stop in and grab a quick lunch when you're in downtown Gettysburg. They specialize in cheesesteaks and fries and though I can't comment on the fries (having not ordered them), the chicken cheesesteak was mighty yummy. The service was very good as well and the owner/cook was a very nice man. They also sell lots of fun metal posters at reasonable prices (around $8), so it's an overall fun place to eat.

    (4)
  • Noelle L.

The service easily gets 5 stars, but the food was disappointing. I had the grilled cheese and tomato on a pretzel roll and the cheese wasn't melty or even that good, the tomato was your typical grocery store imitation of a tomato and the pretzel roll wasn't fluffy or have that little salty bite. The fries were good though.

    (3)
  • Emily V.

The food was super good here - my husband and I each got a cheese-steak and shared the fries- which are portioned large! A medium was more than enough for 2 people. The decor is super fun with all sorts of souvenirs and random things hanging around. It's right along the main drag and the staff was super, super friendly and welcoming. Also had a pumpkin pie ice cream cone, which was a great way to finish off the delicious food!

  • Tara H.

LOVED it! We had the cheese steak, grilled cheese with bacon on a pretzel roll, battlefield fries, and for dessert ice cream sandwich on a pretzel roll. So good and great pricing! Will for sure go back!

  • Debbie D.

Great Place Very homey place, friendly people. Food choices are good. A lot of sandwiches on pretzel rolls. We had the cheesesteak on a roll, grilled cheese an bacon sandwiches on pretzel rolls and a BLT, all with fries. Good for lunch.

  • Chip B.

I can say this place is a solid 4 stars. It was my one splurge diet-wise during our trip here. I had a cheese steak and the wife had a burger. While my sandwich did not compete with Pat's in Philadelphia, it was still good. The place is pretty cluttered with all kinds of souvenirs for sale, it was entertaining reading as we waited for our food. The dining area is cozy (read cramped) but we were able to get a table immediately. If you are going to get the Battle Field Fries, be warned. We ordered a medium and there was no way the two of us could finish them without exploding. A nice one time place to eat.

Based on reviews we came here for dinner after a long day hiking. Orangade, cheesesteaks and fries were all FANTASTIC - the best ever of all three! The young woman who took our order was very helpful, the owner cooked our meal and checked in on us... This was really great comfort food.

Hugely overwhelming kitsch decor in a teeny tiny space. I think five tables in total. The walls are covered with old jokey signage. Covered. Top to bottom. This could be cute or bizarre, depending on your preference. We tried the cheesesteaks here on Yelp's recommendations. They were fine. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it's yellow cheese melted on tiny bits of beef. The fries were good. They charged for soda refills, and the cups were small. C'est la vie. It was cheap. They had banana peppers. Maybe that's all that matters. Maybe this is five-star food in Gettysburg.

This place was Great! We drove by and my husband saw the sign for battle fries and he turned the car around. I was a little hesitant but said what the hell. It was a little hole in the wall filled with metal signs for sale and autographed pictures of country singers( mostly Faith Hill). Of course there were civil war souvineers and hats. My husband ordered a burger and I got a chili dog and we split a basket of battle fries. My husband said that was the best burger he ever had . My chili dog was delish along with the battle fries and we both had yummy root beer floats . Great staff too!!

Well, second time worked out for me as they were open today. Got inside and the first thing that came to mind was," Wow, look at all the clutter!" I mean I was not even sure I was in a food place or a gift shop. It took me a few seconds to get my eyes adjusted to find the tables. Ok, so there were only a few tables, like three or four. I'm sure there were more, but were hidden. I think there were things like gifts for sale, but there was so much decor, it was hard to tell what was for sale, and was was decoration. After a few moments of trying to figure out where the order counter was, I the waitress (possible owner??) came up and lead me back beyond the main dining room for lack of a better term to a counter which was near the kitchen where she handed me a carry-out menu. After a few moments, I had to hunt her down again to place my order as I was unsure if I ordered there at the counter or with her. I t was hard to tell as the counter area was just as cluttered as the main dining room. I would not have known there was register there had I not been with the waitress (owner) Now don't get me wrong about the "clutter" as I call it for lack of a better term, it adds to the charm, but I could see this might be a tad hard for a first timer or a family with children. In fact it would be a nightmare if I had a herd of little ones with me as they'd play with everything in sight. And I was grateful I left my camera gear in the jeep as I would not be able to navigate the place with my Nikon system. I did p[sot some pix with a wide angle lens showing off the optimum space in the main dining room. Despite all this, let me move on to what is really important, the food. I got the steak and cheese and some fries. The fries were cooked well and salted, but there was nothing really special about them from any other place that does fries. Now, here's what earns this place my five star rating and I will admit that when I first saw my 6" steak and cheese outside it's wrapper I was not really impressed, but that was until I took my first bite. Now mind ya, I eat a lot of steak and cheese subs, but this one was special. there was a kick in in somewhere but I can't tell if it was the cheese but that was my guess, almost as if it was nacho cheese. This has got to be the best steak and cheese I have ever had in Gettysburg, and since I live twenty minutes from downtown Gettysburg, I do tend to eat up this way quite often. I am eager to try my hand at other items on the menu with hopes that they stand out as their steak and cheese sub does. I certainly hope my description of the internal navigation of the dining room puts no one off, because if you can get through there well, the food is definitely well worth it, and the clutter is part of the charm.

It has been a month and I still long for the cheese steak sandwich. Tables are a bit cramped but service was great and awesome.

Best cheesesteak I ever had! The fries are hand cut and delicious. I've had the burgers too, and they are outstanding. This is a five-diamond in the rough.

Stopped by this place after visiting the Gettysburg Battlefield, after reading great reviews on this site as well as another review site. Ordered a cheesesteak sandwich with grilled onions and shared an order or their Battle Fries. The food was excellent, and I'd stop there again if ever visiting Gettysburg. The only two things that kept me from giving it 5 stars, was the fact that the tables weren't as clean as they could have been, and also the spray bottles on the table filled with vinegar, for the food, looked as if they needed to be cleaned. Other than that, the food was great, the service was very good and the prices were reasonable.

Had a wonderful time here! We sat outside on a nice October evening, watching people as they walk by. I ordered a cheese stake. It was a nice size and it was really good!. We also order fries for the group and they were good as well. The waitress was very nice, she always made sure we had our drinks full and we were taken care of. The owner was very nice as well! One of the best thing while we were sitting outside at our table was a few people on motorcycles pulled into the alley next to the cafe with music blaring. Their radios were blasting classical music. It was like they had their own theme music. They also came to the cafe to eat and sat next to us at the other table, outside. We ending up having a music/sound competition which was fun! Thanks to everyone that made it a wonderful time!!

Came with 2 friends, saw the reviews and tried the cheesesteaks and fries. Loved them! Awesome hole-in-the-wall vibe with so much going on. Definitely worth the stop!

We stopped in for lunch and had hot dogs and cheesesteaks. Nothing special, nothing wrong with the food, and our server was very sweet. HOWEVER, the place needs a cleanup-walls covered with garbage and things for sale that made absolutely no sense! An ice cream station taking up the corner, tables crammed in, boxes overhead-I just can't understand why, when with a little de-cluttering this place could be really cute. It was a 25 minute wait for your food after you order because they have a teensy kitchen with one guy cooking ALL the food for the 6 tables inside and four or five outside and just one server and one busgirl. Everyone at their tables were just so quiet and miserable, waiting for their food! So my advice: get rid of three tables so people can get their food and be happy, take that CRAP off the walls and ceilings, and please do something about the bathroom it was vile. It still had a standup shower, but it was crammed with boxes and more crap, the sink looked as dirty as the floor. I really hate giving this place a bad review, but they could easily fix the shortcomings of this place. Service was good, and you got your food hot off the grille-but they are really shooting themselves in the foot here by overloading the place with kitsch and trying to feed more people than their kitchen can handle.

Great food, we get the cheesesteak and the fries and they are great. They have the best fries. The place is always busy. You can call ahead for take out.

Refreshing respite from the heat when walking thru town. Friendly staff and owner, and delicious fresh-squeezed lemonade, just like you would get at the fair.

After seeing the great reviews here we decided to try this place out. I got a little nervous walking in though. The pictures on here don't quite prepare you for the claustrophobia inducing clutter. My husband got the cheesesteak and it was excellent as advertised. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was soooooo good!!! I was sad I had only ordered the 6". It could have been a little spicier, but the flavor was so good I didn't care! We shared a medium fry and they were good, but needed salt.

Fantastic fries, friendly staff and tons of cool military gifts. Owner talked to us while we visited and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. This is hidden gem in Gettysburg- stop here if your kids or you need a quick pick me up snack!

This place was incredible! HONESTLY! I am from Texas with my buddies who came to see Gettysburg for the day and after we had seen the sun set at little big top we came in town looking to grab a bite to eat and stumbled upon this place given the great reviews to find they were closing... Well I kindly asked the owner if he could please make 4 more cheesesteaks though he was clearly done making sandwiches for the night and he said, saddle up partner, fired up the grill and made us 4 cheesesteaks! They were the best cheesesteaks any of us had ever had! Not only was the food great but the staff hooked us up with some spots that were haunted in the Woods to the right of the middle school and the owner came out and talked to us and it was like we had been best friends for life! HIGHLY SUGGEST you get over here and try and cheese steak and an Appalachian root beer! Ps this is the only time i have ever yelped a review, but it was for real that good especially with war fries! Ask for nick the owner! Word- David from Texas!

We went here based on the Yelp reviews and were rather disappointed. The cheesesteaks and fries were nothing we haven't had better elsewhere. The cramped interior of the eating area was the kind of thing I would only want to endure for something special.

The friendly atmosphere was awesome! We had breakfast and it was good. We enjoyed the chef singing while cooking. I think at one point he was plying the harmonica.

The wait staff was so nice and helpful, excellent service. They had no problem with a group of us sharing fries or splitting a large sandwich to save some $ (although the prices weren't too bad to begin with). The wait wasn't any longer than other places and it was busy. (I saw some reviews complaining about the wait.) The fries were only the tiniest bit salty for me, but the rest of my table liked them. Didn't bother me enough to take away a point. :) Amazing cheesesteak! Other reviews also complain because of lack of tables, roll of paper towels as napkins, the many reproductions of vintage ads hanging all over, and all that, but honestly, I thought it added to the charm and ambiance of the place. You're not going there to get a sit down meal with a waiter in a suit and linen napkins. I did ask for just water in a cup so as not to pay for the bottle of water, but the waitress explained (very nicely) that it was the owner's rule not to allow (and probably due to people coming in and resting with a free cup of water or to get out of the sun. They do have limited space and don't want to waste it.) Not a big deal, but I did see other reviews complaining about this. Overall, I just loved this place and the staff and the food. I will definitely try to make this a stop next time we visit!

This place serves Philadelphia-style cheese steak sandwiches -- if you are familiar that means chipped/chopped meat and yellowish cheese sauce. If you are expecting sliced steak and provolone, you're probably going to be bummed. In this instance, it was my husband that was bummed, he didn't fully understand what he was ordering. He found his sandwich tasted like beef stroganoff. I had the exact same thing as him and loved it. The meat was very fresh and the cheese sauce wasn't too artificial/processed tasting ( ie it tasted better than Cheese Whiz right out of the jar, which a lot of places do). The fries were great. Crispy and cooked the whole way through. The grilled cheese our daughter had was good. Portion sizes were generous. I'm taking one star off for two reasons. First the bun was soft --- so with the sauce and meat, there was really no texture. And two, there is too much stuff -- they either need to cut back on some decor around the tables or take out a table so there is space to move comfortably. I literally touched the wall beside our table and 3 things fell off the wall. There was so much stuff on our table (condiments), three baskets of food wouldn't fit. My husband also had to ask people to move from their seats, so he could get up and go to the bathroom. All in all though, it's a funky little dive with good food.
