Good beer selection. Mixed crowd of people.

Brother Paul's is a classic English pub in the Philadelphia suburbs. It's quite common to see not only the big 4 sports on the TV's in the bar but EPL and even rugby. While the dining room has a nice feel, I usually opt for the bar and bar tables as I like the atmosphere. The beer list is always outstanding and has somewhere near 20 beers on draught, most from the strongest craft brewers around (and PA is among the best). The menu features gastropub type fare with a Philly twist. All of the food is very good and I eat most everytime I visit. I love the wings for an appetizer, and the salmon burger on brioche is among my favorites for lunch/dinner. The pulled pork with broccoli rabe is also very good.

Yep, 2 stars and I'm being kind. Waitress, straight from the California Valley, lots of 'fer sures' and 'awesomes.' Laughing at the other reviews, "Great beer selections." I asked for a pint of Bud. Valley girl says, "All we have is Bud Light." Not my idea of a great selection of beers. I told her "for an appetizer, I'd have the mussels. Entree, the pulled pork." She says, "Do you want the mussels first?" Not a clue what an appetizer is, most impressive. Half way through the appetizers, the entree arrive, left to sit there and get cold while I finish the mussels. Obviously, neither the restaurant nor the waitress know about a course being a course at a time. My friend was equally unimpressed with her dinner.

Used to be our favorite local dive. Beer selection and food specials usually are great. Foods always good. But some of the servers leave a lot of room for improvement, and the few exceptional servers are hard to come by here.

I'll have to help out the neighborhood eatery here as some of the Friday night specials have been outstanding. Last November, I had the New England seafood bowl which was a dozen or so clams and mussels, four humongous shrimp, four equally humongous scallops, parsleyed potatoes, corn on the cob and huge wedges of crispy garlic bread served in a bowl full of rich seafood broth AND... topped off with a half of a lobster for $21. I don't know how they made any money that night but such deals do exist. As for everyday fare, OK I guess.

Had dinner @ Brother Paul's last night with my family. First there was no hostess to seat us, had to wait. The waiter we had was clueless, slow, mumbled and showed no customer satisfaction (for example never told us any specials - we had to ask!). He had 2 tables in the main dining room which was probably too much for him to handle as he spent most of his time at the register. This guy was never seen except to take our order and bring out our food (another disapointment which I will get to). We watched another waiter serve 4-5 tables in our area and he was attentive to all his patrons and he actually wished us a good evening as we were leaving. When our food finally came out we needed refills on our drinks but our waiter never brought them over. In fact we had to ask him when he re-entered the room (as he no intent to come over to our table) if we should just go to the bar directly to get our drinks. Now the food - this place has gone downhill. The burgers were all overdone - when is medium rare - barely pink?. Also the amount of fries served with the burgers were on par with an order of small fries at Mc Donalds. My wife order a buffalo Chicken salad, which also shrunk in portion size - we actually gave her some of the lettuce from our burgers to supplement her salad. This restaurant used to be a go to restaurant for us but not any more as this was our last visit.

very cool atmosphere. We like to go here for lunch with the kids. The pulled pork is amazing. They also have an impressive selection of beers. Service can be a little slow, but with so much open space and elbow room, I have never felt cramped or anxious to leave. If you are into nightlife, I think they have live music some nights. definitely check it out! Its always good to see a re-purposed, old, historic building too.

We visited Brother Pauls about ten times in three years. It was 30-minute-plus drive, so unless we found ourselves over there for other business, going over there took a commitment. The menu is well-executed 'pub food' with a great selection of beers. I like the burgers and fries, which is usually enough to keep me happy. Occasionally, the service can be distracted, and you can get unruly children.

Good pub food and solid rotating beer list. We stop in every week for lunch. The craft beer list is solid and rotates every few weeks. Personally, I'd like to see more IPAs/pale ales on the list, but it's good nonetheless. The burgers are outstanding and consistently done well. I'm a big fan of the chicken parm sandwich, while my wife likes both the roasted pork sandwich of the cajun chicken salad.

Ice place and great outdoor seating. Good servers. Food is ok. Good drinks and reasonable prices but only go here for the outdoor seating to be honest

If you want to go somewhere chill on a Saturday night and stay away from the crazy crowds then this is the right place for you. It's pretty open and the service is awesome! I only had desert and my friend had a burger and fries which I tried but they were a bit dry. The server Chris was super nice and he took a good care of us! I would definitely come back.

Great beer selection. We went there for a friends birthday. This place is minutes from my house but I never think to go. We ordered the calamari, Meh. No flavor. Could have used seasoning in the batter. We ordered shots and when they brought them over I thought they were kidding. They were tiny. Wasn't impressed. Service was great and they seem to have good drink specials throughout the week. Not sure it will be in our rotation, but I would give it another shot.

I came here for lunch with my boyfriend and his dad. We didn't get any alcohol, but their beer selection (on the back of the food menu) is HUGE! Between the three of us, we had their pulled pork sandwich, Cajun chicken sandwich, and California burger. Everything came with fries, and a little extra for sweet potato fries, which are my Achilles' heel. The portions are GIGANTIC here, so have a huge meal or take a snack home for later! We also had their quesadilla appetizer, which was very tasty! Lots of meat, lots of cheese, and four large slices. Definitely enough for four people to share, or as a meal for one.

Wasn't the decider of this fun little pub but I thought it was really great. Had a tasty selection of beer and multiple choices for burgers sandwiches and great hearty food. I got the Lancaster which was ok but it wasn't my favorite. But the waiter suggested the naked mac and cheese because I was stuck on that and pirogues. Wonderful choice the am and cheese was perfect and went great with the fries I ordered on the side

Worst pub I've ever been I ordered a burger and couldn't even swallow the first bite. The only food here that was edible was the water they served.. If you're looking for a good bar brother Paul's is not the place to go

    (1)
  • Laura R.

They changed the menu! No more buffalo chicken salad, buffalo chicken wrap, cheese steaks, or grilled ham and cheese. With the menu change, the prices also went up. My husband also got the same sandwich he always ordered (pork sandwich), previously it was overflowing and a very generous portion and the sandwich was about 1/2 filled. We used to love going to Brother Paul's... often going every other week. With the menu change there is no longer a reason to make the 10 minute drive.

In the realm of bars this place is just very...average. Went here on a Sunday night and it was pretty quiet. The service was okay but not exceptional. I ordered a turkey sandwich that was average and my manfriend got some spicy pasta crab dish that was equally average. Their beer selection is pretty decent. Weird note- this is clearly a sports bar, 10,000 huge TVs. So they were playing baseball on the outside TVs but blasting Game of Thrones around the bar. Sensory overload. I didn't hate Brother Paul's but I'm definitely not itching to go back.

Will not be going back. This place caught my eye due to its continuous advertisements of showing the World Cup. So we decided to go for the BIG GAME: The first USA game of the Cup vs. Ghana - it was a gorgeous night and we were really excited to sit outside on what looked to be a nice porch. We walk in and were immediately greeted by the hostess fighting loudly with another member of staff and had to wait for the fight to end before we were even acknowledged. Then, we went outside and there was only 1 TV on on the patio, and everyone was huddled around the few seats at the bar in order to see the TV due to the awkward placements of the overhead lights blocking the view. Like I said, we wanted to SEE the game, so we left. No one even tried to stop us because there was only one server/bartender working the entire patio with all those people there. Terrible. Wish I could even comment on the food, but we didn't even manage to get that far...

Overall not a bad place to grab a good bite to eat. Service is quite slow but the food is not bad. They do have a great selection of beer! They also have a nice outdoor seating area when it's nice. I would recommend their soups salads and their pulled pork is amazing!

$3.00 beers? I've been out of the burbs too long, I don't even understand. This is the bar of choice for methactonian alumni. If you show up wednesday before thanksgiving night you will run into someone from that high school. The crowd is local but generally somewhere between twenty somethings and forty somethings. It's a nice bar with food beer and a bunch of TVs for sports to enjoy. The night life is okay and very suburban. Seriously though, don't expect it to be chic or exciting but it's a good exciting night for the chronically timid. I enjoy. The food from the restaurant is fairly par for the pub course. I mean they aren't trying to tout their craft brewery and attempting to be a gastropub, so it's what you would expect. I had a pretty good fish sandwich, good fried to fish ratio. However, it won't be blowing you away and if you are a true gourmand you wouldn't go. But why would you leave the city as a gourmand, save for the occasional hot air balloon trip?

  • Anne C.

The local bar that i never ever thought I'd be. It was the only bar in the area, so I guess we had no choice. There was also a high school reunion that day for the year ahead of us, weird, so we decided to bail early. People here were just the locals but it was pretty loud here, so not the best spot for chatting and catching up. The beer selection was a bit limited, either way, it was overall alright.

Recently tried to grab lunch at Brother Paul's, but was unable to due to an incompetent brunette bartender working the outside bar. She told us to grab a table and a server would be out to see us. After waiting five minutes at the table with no contact with a server, I walk up and sit at the bar. The same bartender walks over and I ask her for a menu. She finds one menu then never returns to me to ask for my order. This isn't the first time I've been to Brother Paul's, but it will be the last time.

This place has a great vibe to it. Entertaining bar staff and cheap drinks will keep me coming back, but it's not the fanciest of restaurants.

  • Michael M.

Service was fine. Received our meal (burgers) quickly. Beer menu had some interesting selections but not much of my taste. Not the largest selection. I usually look for ipas and they only had a couple, one of which was gluten free. So they only had one. My main complaint is the food menu. It was really boring. Pretty much the same selection as applebees. Burgers were better prepared than applebees, but nothing unique happening. The building itself is really interesting, good ambience. Overall it was fine. Don't see any reason to return though.

  • Tom D.

My buddies and I have been to Brother Paul's several times now. They have a great beer selection, plenty of TVs and reasonable prices. The bartenders and waitresses have always been friendly and attentive. I can't comment on the food because I've never eaten anything. Brother Paul's is a solid sports bar in the Collegeville/Eagleville area, head there if you want to watch the game and don't mind other fans cheering at the TV.

good place for a drink and bar food...I heard the burgers were good, but went with the pulled pork and was very happy about my choice! They also have some good drink specials. This place reminds me a lot of the Trappe Tavern, but better lighting and much cleaner...plenty of seating, nice warm atmosphere. plenty of TVs in the restaurant too. I'm going to go back to try the burger one of these days. Late night menu till midnight...

Good job. Favorite local bar. Special for the night, Chop House Salad, was great. It was on the old menu, but no longer. It needs to come back. Always see friends. Lots of competition in the area whether it be national chains or local places, so need to stay on top of their game with good food and a clean place that doesn't show the wear and tear over time.

  • Christopher D.

Brother Paul's is a relaxed bar with a good micro selection, and some really good pub food. Last time I was there they were one of the first places to have Anchor OSA on tap.. a must for the holiday season. I had a very decent grilled cheese on whole grain bread, and a passable soup. Friends with me raved about the roast pork (which is roasted daily) and is served with sharp provolone ( a must ) and some nice long hots. You also can have broccoli rabe on the sandwich as well. This neighborhood gem gets less pub than other places around, but really deserves a visit for the beer geek in Mont Co,

Good as a bar but not for lunch without food. Has a nice outside dining area but inside is very loud. However the cosmopolitans are really good and they have a nice beer selection. Just don't order anything but appetizers.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Used to like this place, but lately it's been going WAY downhill. Stale nachos, wrong item delivered, out of items, were there for over 2 hours! Go elsewhere.

This place is right up the street from my house, so it has that going for it. The food is pretty good and the drinks are reasonably priced. The decor is pretty cool, too. I went when there weren't any sporting events, so it was nice and quiet, but I can imagine it gets pretty loud and bumping when there's an event going on.

First of all this is the best bar outside of phoenixville or KOP! The porch is soo much fun in the summer with a nice roof so you can even enjoy a summer rain. The food is also a notch above most other restaurants in the area. The pulled pork sandwich and the Mac n cheese are both outstanding menu items. If you are nearby and want to watch the game, it's a local favorite for games, or just picking up some dinner I hope to see you here!

  • John F.

Been coming here for years... this place would be so good if they could only fix their wait staff. The service here, while has been great at times, overall sucks. The high school/college aged girls that seem to dominate the staff seem to be more interested in chatting it up with each other, texting, etc than seeing to their customers.

We went out to dinner as a party of eight. Server was efficient and friendly. Nice selection of Beers on tap and a number of great bottles too. Pulled pork sandwich was amazing! Other family members said burger, fish/chips and Reuben sandwich were also great. Loud...but great place for beers and pub food. Prices were great too!

Brother Paul's Pub is a gem! I can't say enough about how good the food was! We were all in the mood for something simple, and they delivered some very good food - The burgers were just amazing. Now I've eaten a few burgers in my life - but there was just enough good char on the burgers to give it a really good flavor. My foodie wife was thrilled that someone used REAL fresh mushrooms instead of canned mushrooms, so she was delighted. The waitress took really good care of us and made sure our kids were taken care of 1st (very big deal). The beer was cold, the food was really good, and we were impressed with the good service too. The owner came out to see how we were and if everything was good, and he was very personable, a very nice guy. I recommend this place every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

Had high hopes when some folks from work sang raises of their burgers. Unfortunately, burger I got was greasy and quite pedestrian. May try it again but not in a hurry to do so.

I've been here a few times and each visit has always been better than the previous one. The food is always good. They have a huge menu and they always have a handful of specials as well. They have a ton of beers on tap, both macros and micros. The place can get crowded at times, but its big enough that you usually can get a seat pretty quickly either around the bar or in the dining area. Even at busy times the wait staff is amazing and attentive to your needs. The only complaint I have about this place is the parking lot. It gets full really quick during busy times.

  • Tim R.

I love this place. It is just up the road from me, so it has become the preferred spot for dinner with my dad, lunch when I work from home, or drinks with friends. The bartenders are great, the food is good (great sandwiches, decent enough main entrees), the beer selection is very good (I love that they have Chimay), and the new outdoor area is great -- especially now that spring is here.

  • Edward P.

Nice selection of beers on tap. On Wednesdays, the local band Wynrise plays for the open mic night and the bar features all thier microbrews for $3.

Cool atmosphere, and one of the Best Bar Grub places in the area. Recommend the burgers and the Loaded Nachos. Good Beer selection as well. I the summer they also have an outdoor patio area, for smokers like myself to hang out and drink & smoke

  • Colleen M.

This place is decent for the Eagleville/Collegeville area. I can't speak for the food, but I went here for drinks and desert. The rum and cokes were nice and strong. The candy bar explosion cake was pretty tasty, I have to say. Although I didn't drink the beer, they have a decent selection. I would probably go to Capone's in East Norriton before heading here, but if you live more towards Collegeville this place would certainly be good. Capone's doesn't have good food, but they do have a better beer selection. I would definitely return to Brother Paul's and give the food a try, though.

    (3)
  • Holly H.

Yeah, not so blown away with this place. I think its all about the atmosphere and the drinks and the darts (notice that the ATM next to the dart boards totally has a chip out of the screen). But this review is for the food. Pass. The sandwiches, the salads, the entrees - this is all pretty much low-end pub food. Drink enough and you won't mind. Or do yourself a favor, and just drink enough.

  • Kate J.

Brother Paul's is what it is. They have a great beer selection and a large dining room. Kids are welcome and they serve American food that everyone will eat. Great relaxing atmosphere and a good place for a family dinner. The food is not good. Some of he servers have an attitude and service is inattentive. Still you are probably going to have a really good time if you go!

  • Kristine G.

So I'm torn on this review...The place is pretty large and has a lot of seating options (which Laura W mentions). It seems to have a pretty strong following since it was really busy on a Thursday night (although it was the day before July 4th and there was a Phillies game on). I was with a party of 15 people and the food did come out quickly and all at once. I ordered their chicken parm sandwich which was awful. It tasted like it had peppers on it and I had to play "find the chicken" in my bun. But, everyone else seemed to LOVE their pull pork sandwich. I saw 5 women eat the whole thing. That's got to say something, right? I think I'm going to have to take Jeff back there to try it. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong dish?

  • Peter B.

My no good Brother! Well, not actually. Brother Paul's hits the middle of the road spectrum. Not remarkable, but there's not much I can say that's wrong with the place. I may be in the minority here, as the place tends to fill up on certain nights. On those nights, I usually find myself cramped in, standing against the wall in an awkward position. In this situation riot gear is necessary to get to the bar. I'd rather play Twister in a coffin that was buried 30 ft underground then attend Brother Paul's on a packed night, At least then I'd have some room to move.

  • cotie s.

I've tried and tried to like Brother Paul's and don't get me wrong I've had some fun times here. The problem is the food is not very good. The wings are pretty good, which could be what saved me from dropping only one start on poor Brother Paul. I've tried a burger, a couple other sandwiches, I've had friends who've ordered steaks there, and all were less than good. Like I said, I've tried. The bar is very big and nicely set up to watch several games at a time. The decor is decorated with college pennants giving it an nice atmosphere. Even with two stars I would recommend going there for two things. Wings and beer. They have a large selection of tasty beers and again, the wings are pretty good. I'd be happy to bump up my rating if I'm able to go back and have a good meal experience.

I've been here multiple times, just starting posting on Yelp so fortunately for them my latest experience here was pretty good. This is a big place, sometimes waitresses or waiters forget to come by often enough, but I don't like to condemn a place for that. Also this place is not a chain (yet) so I like to support the little guy vs. the chains. The beer selection is huge, better to sit in the bar area for quicker food service but tables are usually hard to come by. Food is standard pub fare with some dinners and specials, since we are big appetizer and sandwich eaters this is what we usually order here. Latest visit included a shared hummus appetizer, and a buffalo chicken wrap, a grilled reuben, and a cheese steak. Hummus was excellent, very fresh tasting, and would recommend. All the sandwiches were huge and very good and came with fries (for some reason they used to give you a bag of chips with sandwiches but they wisely nixed that idea) Bottom line, if you are near Eagleville, this place is a great value and worth a visit.

I am a fan of brew pubs, little hole in the wall joints with good food and a decent beer selection. I was introduced to Brother Paul's several years ago and was impressed, at the time, with their food choices and prime beer selections. I can't say I'm an avid goer of this establishment, but when I'm in the area, I love to stop by for a burger and a beer. That was me on Sunday, football day in America and after a day of outlet shopping with friends, headed over for some eats. The bar was scarce -- maybe 15 - 20 people scattered around the bar or surrounding tables. I've never eaten in the bar area, always in the restaurant, but since it was just me, I found my way to an open seat in front of two tvs to catch the reamaining half of two games. The bartender, a female, was less than attentive and seemed to pay more attention to her iPhone than to her guests. I waited in my seat for 8 minutes (after the first 2 minutes came and went, I started to pay attention to my watch) before she came by and even noticed me (of the other 20 people in the bar, only 3 of us were women). Reverse discrimination? I asked for a beer menu - they used to have a good menu within the restaurant but I was told what was on the chalk board on the back wall was all they had. No pumpkin beers. No Oktoberfest. No fall ales. Nothing. Whoever these other reviewers are that are saying they have a good beer menu -- $2 Coors Lites and Miller drafts are NOT good beers. Super sad. I resorted to a Guiness (the only worthwhile options were Stella, Yards and Yuengling). I had to wait another 9 minutes before she came around with my beer and to take my order. Very simple: french onion soup and a BBQ burger cooked medium well. The french onion soup was rushed out -- the cheese wasn't even thoroughly melted, but clumped in the middle of the crock. It had zero taste and was luke warm. As my bartender was less than attentive to ask how it was, I resorted to eat it as I was starving and feared sending it back would have sub-par consequences and an eye roll involved. The burger came out more medium rare then medium well. It was pink inside and cold. The only thing hot were the fries. I cut the thing in half, boxed it to go and couldn't wait to just get out of there... though I had to wait to get my check as the bartender was again more interested in said iPhone and the boys in the corner of the bar. Seriously -- I get waitressing sucks. I've been there, I've done that -- college town and all. But it's a customer service job so if you aren't a fan of people, maybe you should consider another job. Soup, a burger and a beer for $22 -- wasted time and wasted money. I won't be back, which is a shame because this place used to be a highlight of driving through Eagleville to get up to my friends place in Limerick. If you want some good eats and a kick-ASS bar selection in the area, try Capone's on Germantown Pike or PJ Whelihan's in Blue Bell on Rt 202/73 area. Great food, great selection of beers and a MUCH more friendly staff of servers and bartenders. I can stand sub-par beer selections and so-so food choices, but the 'tude I do NOT need with my meal. Bon appetite!

A favorite local spot! Great beer selection, lots of TV's and plenty of seating. Most of the food I've had has been very good, but there are some items on the menu that I haven't been impressed with. They have solid burgers, although I'm not a huge fan of the bread. The chicken sandwiches are great, and on bread that I like better. They're also willing to put Philadelphia Union games on one of the TV's without giving me the usual odd stare, and Paul is a soccer fan, which is a huge plus for me. Overall I'd highly recommend checking Brother Paul's out.

This my husband and my "go-to" place. Whenever we can't decide on where we would like to go we inevitably choose Brother Pauls. The restaurant/pub is located on Ridge Pike just outside of the Collegeville/Norristown/Worcester area in a renovated stone home(?). It is an old building with not much updating on the inside. When you walk into the restaurant you are immediately in the bar area. This can be annoying if you have to wait a time for a hostess as the bar area isn't smoke free. The rest of the place consists of three additional rooms. The first one is in between the bar and the larger restaurant room. I've never been seated here, but it looks like they can accommodate some larger groups at these tables. The larger room is comprised of tables and booths. More tables then booths. It can get pretty loud between all of the tvs and families that frequent the restaurant. The next room is actually the enclosed front porch of the house. I like sitting here best. One long bench seat with tables spaced out. Again, my husband can always catch a game while we eat dinner or grab a beer from their EXTENSIVE beer list (book). The food is ok. It isn't overpriced, but I wish they would change up the menu every once in awhile. They do offer specials each night. But I would like to see some variety on the regular menu. They do make an awesome veggie pannini and their burgers are great. They have outdoor seating as well. You feel like you are in your own world because of the high stucco wall that keeps you from seeing the parking lot and Ridge Road. I enjoy coming here both in the summer and the winter. A beer on the patio or a dirty martini sitting out in the enclosed porch when it is cold outside are equally enjoyable for this friendly fall-back restaurant.

Spur of the moment decision while driving on a saturday afternoon that definitely paid off! It was a great atmosphere, great beer selection, food that was great, good service. All in all a good time, sat in the enclosed front porch section, no complaints. Give it a shot, we'll definitely be going back soon!
