One of the most dependable restaurants in the area for an experience that pleases adults and kids. The Italian dishes taste like homemade. The pizza is always a hit, even with very picky kids, as is the spaghetti with a big giant meatball. The desserts are also better than usual fare and aren't the same-old that you find everywhere (try the carrot cake). Kid meals include a sundae (my kids actually refused theirs last time since they were too full). We've never had a bad plate of food here and the service has exceeded expectations no matter what time of day, day of the week, or fullness of the restaurant. Seeing as the restaurant has always been hopping, it says a lot. It's not a five-star experience and it's not meant to be. It's meant to be a casual dining experience with good food in a friendly, clean atmosphere and that's exactly what it provides (in a consistent way).

I really thought Marzoni's would be better. For beer the place is 5 stars. for food it is around 1-2 stars. The beer selection is great. I really linked the Triple and the Stone Mason Stout. The Triple was strong and exactly what I expected. It was a great choice to open the night. During dinner I had the Stout and it was milky and sweet with coffee aftertaste. The table split a 5 cheese and tomato pizza. I found the dough to be a little too thick. It was also a little undercooked. For a brick oven place I thought that the pizza would be a lot better. For my entree I ordered the Sirloin Strip rare. When it arrived it was more medium to well and a little dry. It was overcooked and probably did not rest once off the grill. The broccoli was a little too greasy/buttery and undercooked. The fries were the best part of the dinner. Overall I would recommend coming in for a drink or maybe picking up a 6 pack or a growler and heading home or going to a BYOB.

Really enjoyed the beer selection! The fancy nancy salad with dressing on the side was delicious and they had a pizza special that had fig sauce - also delicious!

Marzoni's is one of the nicer restaurants in the Hollidaysburg/Altoona area. The wait staff was amazing and they had really good food. Out of all of the places I've been to in Altoona, this restaurant was in my top 5. They seem to really have it together here and it shows.

FOLLOW UP: A few hours after I posted this review the phone rang. It was Marzoni's. They apologized and said the Margherita doesn't travel well. I'll have to try it in house next time. Below is the original, unedited review. I originally emailed my complaint, but no one has felt the need to reply so here goes. I ordered three pizzas for takeout Saturday and have to say the Margherita pizza was the worst pizza of any kind I have ever received, anywhere. It was completely soggy and you couldn't even lift a slice. The other two pizzas seemed ok (Hawaiian and Pepperoni), but there's no way to describe the Margarita but terrible. While restaurants have their own way of making a Margherita, you might consider adjusting yours to be edible.

Dinner with my Mother-in-Law, and her companion, was delightful. Love to come here to have meals, as they are very accommodating with our request. The food is good too. Thank You Phil for great service, both this evening, and last night. P.S. try the deep fried Zucchini, with the special dipping sauce. YUMMO !

Since my first review the menu has been revamped. Less veg-friendly than before. Gone are both the fried green beans and portobello sammy. We rarely go here now. Their menu just gets more and more "central PA" as time passes. Not enough unique options and definitely not enough veg options. We do occassionally stop for some pizza and beer.

I had high hopes but it didn't really pan out. Started with a flight of beer: Amber, IPA, stout and a tripel. The beer was pretty gross. The IPA is the only one I would order again. Next was a hummus app which was definitely homemade but very grainy with not nearly enough pita. I got the farmers market pizza which was so sadly under seasoned I really couldn't eat it because I don't understand why I would ever need to salt a pizza by myself. My husband got the firehouse burger which was cooked however they wanted to cook it (never bothered asking us) and then unsalted sweet potato fries (with no sauce, etc just dry fries on a plate.) the only saving grace was that the ghost peppers made the burger live up to our expectation of it being spicy. Just makes me wonder if anyone can own a brewpub if they have enough capital to get it up and running. No passion for food or beer in this place as was evident by the food and the completely confusing ambiance inside. I thought the place was busy but it was just the driving range next door.

My review is really only for the beer and service. Though I did order the homemade chips which were a good compliment to the beer sampler. I wasn't all that impressed with the beers. My friend and I would taste one and say, "Oh, there's your Miller Lite" or "That's their Yuengling." I guess if that's what they are going for then they have succeeded. But it wasn't what I was expecting. I like a little advenure in my microbrews. Our bartender, however, was friendly and attentive. I may return if I'm nearby to try something off their menu. But I'm more interested in the cheese (made with their own beer) I saw in their display cooler on our way out.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by my experience here. We had a group of 14, and we were seated very quickly on a saturday evening. It was busy, but didn't feel crowded as it was pretty big, which was good. Our server was very good about splitting up the check and while our drinks took forever (side note: the water tasted odd, almost soapy, and was gross), once we ordered our meals came out pretty quickly. I got the chicken parm, and it was decent. I think my chicken parm expectations have been ruined by a meal I got a month ago, so in all fairness it was good. It did seem a little under seasoned though. Our server also took a group picture of us when we were finished and later when we needed another one, a hostess took one outside, so the service was good. I would happily return here next time we are in town, and probably get the pizza which I tried a bite of, and was delicious :)

My wife and I take the kids here often. They can accommodate small children very well. They are prompt with meals which suites us well. Food is always well prepared and fresh. The fresh brewed beer is wonderful compliment to the smoked turkey ergler sandwich. My wife says the salads are adequate and fresh. She loves the wedding soup here. Appetizers are all great here.

Traveling to Pittsburgh we saw a sign for brick oven pizza. Marzonni's not only had AWESOME brick oven pizza's but make their own beer as well! A must try when traveling near Altoona.

Ok.still at the table. They messed up my food. Then said no it was right, when it clearly wasnt. After words they brought a new one realizing that they were wrong. The server Phil was about the rudest server I have ever had. I used to love this place. Stinks I will never be back.

I was visiting Altoona for the first time with my friend who is originally from the area and she suggested we go to Marzoni's. They brew their own beer on premises, so I had to try one. I ended up going with the Highway 22 Wheat because I like beers like Hoegaarden. It was great! I really wanted a burger, so I got the "Brewers Burger" with provolone. Yum! Cooked to perfection on a delicious bun! I hate it when gourmet burgers are too thick, but theirs was a manageable size and didn't get all soggy from the meaty juices. It also came with homemade potato chips, which I adore. I would eat here a second time if I ever find myself in Duncansville again.

I came here twice while I was here on work because it was so good. Hawaiian pizza was very good, service was helpful. I would come again. Everything on the menu looked good

I've been here four times and each time the food has been good. I dined here yesterday and again this evening. Last evening, I had a small Marzoni's special pizza minus sausage which was outstanding. Tonight's meal was larger -- a Fancy Nancy salad with salmon and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing and stuffed shells. The salad was wonderful and the salmon cooked perfectly. The shells were very good with a tasty meatball and plenty of slightly sweet sauce. The bread was not so great -- slightly greasy bread sticks. I also had a fuzzy yummy martini which was strong and refreshing. What stands out from my two most recent visits is the service that I received. Both nights a young gal named Piper waited on me. She is simply wonderful -- friendly, upbeat, anticipates the needs of the table (drink refills, timing of the appetizer and entree and check) and she makes regular rounds of the tables to check how everything is going. It was a real pleasure to be served by Piper and helped to make a good experience great. Thanks !!

Food was fine but no sides or you have to pay extra for normal inclusions. Pasta dishes do not include a salad or bread. Dinners did not have bread or rolls to go with it. Ordered nachos with chicken and sausage. There were 2 slivers of chicken and literally 1/2 a slice of Italian sausage. Service was poor. Appatizer took long time and 2 minutes after getting it the dinner came out. I so hate it when a restrurant can not even get the basics right. After served we were not checked on again until done eating. Will not be going back.

This place was a huge dissapointment, but had a lot left to be desired as it has a lot of potential. The beer: We ordered a sampler, including their two optional extras. It was nothing special, and all tasted similiar to something you could buy at the grocery store. Their IPA was pretty good, but still, I've had better. The loaded nachos: Awesome! Every bite tasted different, and possibly the best loaded nachos I've had anywhere. This got me excited for our pizza to come...and well... The Pizza: CANNED MUSHROOMS! Are you serious? You go through all the work of cooking a pizza in a brick oven and you use canned ingredients? This pizza tasted simliar to Fox's, but somehow worse. Maybe because I was THAT dissapointed, or because the abundance of generic mozarella cheese on this pizza took away any other flavors left to be had. Overall I give this place a 2/5. What should be my favorite restaurant beause I love GOOD beer and pizza, totally ruined my experience because they both wer sub par, at best. I'd recommened using fresh ingredients on the pizza, and if you have a problem with the crust being that floppy and borderline rubber, maybe try cooking the crust a little before adding the ingredients on. I've cooked way better pizzas on my gas grill for less.

I have been to Marzoni's numerous times and have always had a good experience. I was there most recently yesterday with my husband and my parents. We had a great meal! We started out with the nachos which were fantastic and unlike any other nachos I have ever had. With a combination of alfredo sauce, chicken, tomatoes and hot peppers, they were amazing. For dinner, I had the stuffed shells, my husband had the special, a bahi mi sandwhich, my mom had the seafood manicotti and my dad had the cobb salad. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was that the bottom of my stuffed shells were a little burnt, but other than that I really enjoyed my meal. Marzoni's is a great place to go for a delicious meal with a nice friendly and family oriented atmosphere.

Nice brewpub. The beer I had was tasty, the service was good, and the food selections were awesome. We had the loaded fries to start (oh my GOODNESS!) and then split a pizza. I was really surprised to see they make the pizza dough with spent grain (from brewing). A nice little touch and it was very tasty! I recommend this place to anyone who likes beer and pizza. (Who doesn't?)

Nothing special. Based on these reviews, I was hoping for more, but was disappointed. I ordered Atlantic Salmon with extra veggies instead of rice, potatoes or fries. I got a very bland salmon with a bunch of diced tomatoes on top and about 5 little pieces of broccoli drowned out by almost raw cauliflower. The side salad was the typical iceberg lettuce you find in a McDonald's side salad. I sat at the bar with around 5 other customers, yet the bartender couldn't remember what I was drinking each time I wanted another. There was another customer that was attempting to talk with her, yet she would walk away from him mid sentence whenever a waiter or waitress had an order. By the way, the guy was not obnoxious, drunk or anything ... just striking up a conversation. The least she could have done was say "excuse me a sec" or something (maybe there's some history there ... I don't know). Anyway, a forgettable experience.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
