We had a great experience at Bobby Simone's. It was our first time there and we had a very delicious meal. The truffle fries were perfectly flavored and crispy. The calamari was cooked just right, which always seems to be a gamble at most restaurants. The scallops with polenta were wonderful. The service was really good and appropriately attentive. There was a decent draft beer selection. All in all we would return.

Bobby Simon's was just ok. My husband and I, along with two other couples, went last night because we wanted to stay in the Doylestown area. I had been resisting going because I loved the old Roosevelt Blue Star and didn't like that it was being replaced. We ordered a few appetizers (mussels, shrimp cocktail, some sweet potato fries) and they were fine...just fine, nothing special. A few salads were delivered, very run-of-the-mill, nothing stood out. Then, our meals, a couple salmon dishes, pork chop, scallops, petite filet. I was rather shocked at how small all of the portions were...not that we needed more, but at those prices, I'd think portions would be a bit bigger. A few dishes were served with mashed potatoes...who serves plain mashed potatoes anymore...no garlic or wasabi or any special flavoring...rather bland I'd say. Nobody commented or especially enjoyed anything; it was all just ok. I tried the creme brûlée because I remembered it was good at Blue Star, but this one didn't do it for me. All in all the meal was just ok, service was fine and food fine. I do like the atmosphere, but I dont know if that will be enough to bring me back. Maybe I'd go back to try their samdwiches and burgers?

Mmmm roast beef sandwich and truffle fries bring us from over 30 minutes away, Bobby is super nice and the barside bartenders are also a pleasure, but get there early if you want a seat, the place fills up with duches rather quickly.

If you're 19-23, this is your hang out. I've been here more than 5 times, hoping for a better experience....it just doesn't come. It's crazy loud, takes forever to get a drink and the bathroom is filthy. The bartenders are friendly....just good luck flagging one down. I stood at the bar for over 15 minutes to get a drink. Had this place been open when I was in college, I would have been all over it....the smell of stale beer, the 2-can sam type of girls spilling their beer on you.....um not so much in my 30's.....too many other great places in Doylestown.

i've always liked the little bar in the alley. i haven't been in the restaurant since it was roosevelt's blue star, if that says anything. we stopped in for lunch on a sunday. it was empty (which is fine by me). i ordered the blackened salmon salad. it came with candied pecans, danish blue cheese, and warm bacon dressing over baby spinach. i cleaned my plate. it was really tasty. i would definitely go back. they were setting up for the band which i thought was weird for a sunday afternoon. the place is a little small and gets really loud when there's a band in there. otherwise it's a great hangout if it's not too crowded.

I really don't want to give this place any stars. My husband wanted to take me somewhere new and nice for my birthday so he made reservations here. Because it's literally tucked away between buildings, neither of us had ever realized it was right in the middle of Doylestown. As we walked down the alley, we agreed that it looked great. The bar side, with tables outside, looked fun and we saw a good crowd enjoying the evening with some pretty drinks and tempting bar food. We entered the restaurant side expecting it to be even better and were seated immediately by a woman we assumed was the hostess. She didn't seem very welcoming but we didn't care. We were excited to have a good meal and a nice time and figured our waitress would be nicer. We sat down and noticed the restaurant was completely empty except for one other table . . . maybe that should have been our first clue. I opened my menu to find it that it was stained with food. GROSS. Is it really so difficult to replace the paper inserts with clean ones? it's not like we were eating at a run of the mill chain restaurant. I pretended not to notice the stains and looked at the choices, which all sounded pretty good. Then the hostess lady came back. My heart sank a little when I realized she was going to be our waitress. She asked for our drink order--even though she hadn't provided us with a wine or beer list (and I saw that the only other people in the dining room had one). I told her we were still deciding and then asked if they had any specialties. Maybe that's an annoying question, but since it was my birthday I thought I'd try something more exciting than a glass of wine. Her reply was simply, "No," and she walked away. That was literally all she said. This woman did not smile once at us. She didn't offer us a wine list. She didn't give us any suggestions--I understand if the bar doesn't have signature drinks, but usually a (friendly) server will ask you what you like and suggest a few things. My husband wanted a beer but she didn't even stick around long enough to tell us what was on tap. We just stared at each other wondering why she was so unpleasant but we were still determined to have a nice time. We decided on what we wanted to eat and closed up our menus, waiting for her to return to take our order. And we waited. And we waited some more. Finally, feeling uncomfortable as the other waitress went back and forth, seemingly pretty attentive to the other table we whispered back and forth, "Ok, should we just go?" "Give it a few minutes." "How long?" We never leave a restaurant after being seated. We are insanely non-confrontational. We never want to be *those* people, never satisfied, huffy and demanding. But I just kept thinking that this was my birthday dinner, and if we stayed it was obviously going to suck. She was going to treat us like crap, and my husband was going to feel like he ruined the night by choosing this place. We realized that she had completely disappeared, so we left. We didn't rush or anything, and no one else who worked there seemed to care or notice. No one asked if they could help us or if there was a problem. We ended up going to Honey, which was delicious and fun, and the servers there were very sweet and friendly. I will NEVER go back to Bobby Simone's, not even to the bar there, and I advise you to avoid this place, too, at least until they get their act together and hire some decent help.
