I grew up in Connellsville and graduated from CAHS in 1968 and I fondly remember Miedel's from my high school days - it was certainly one of our more popular places to eat. Fast forward 46 years - I'm back in town to visit family and I'm looking for a place to eat and decide to give Miedel's a try. I know the ownership has changed hands and I think it was actually closed for a while but it sure brought back memories. The menu still listed some items I remember from over 40 years ago - the Lucky Special, their Famous BBQ Ham, etc. For folks not familiar with Miedel's version of BBQ ham - it doesn't come in or with any BBQ sauce - it's their own classic preparation and it's exceptional. When we were there today (a Sunday) around noon - the place was packed and the waitress said they had were slammed. Due to the crowd, the service was a little slow but -- DESPITE the crowd - the waitress and a lady who appeared to be the manager kept checking back with us and replenishing our coffee and soda. They also apologized several times for the time it took for our order to come out. So - while we had a wait a little longer than normal for our food - it was definitely a pleasant wait. As for the food. It was exceptional. The portions are huge and the prices are incredible. My wife had a MonteCristo with French onion soup and I had my old favorite the Lucky Special w/ fries. We literally stuffed / in fact, my wife couldn't finish her portion. And the total - with coffee and soda was less than $21.00 -- INCREDIBLE.
