I've been to this place three times and each has been disappointing. Most recent visit before posting review was in early April 2015 The first time was a couple months after opening. I went with my father for an early dinner. When we got there, there were only one or two other tables full. I got a pulled pork sandwich with fries, and my father got a brisket sandwich. Complaints: Fries were soggy, brisket was greasy, service was SLOW. Mind you, it was almost empty in the restaurant. We sat there for 10-15 minutes with empty plates before getting our check and waited so long for our waitress to come back to get the payment that we got fed up and went to the front to pay instead. The only saving grace was that I really liked my pulled pork sandwich which was flavorful and moist. Second visit was about a month or so after the first. Again, I was out to dinner with my father. We walked in and there was nobody up front to greet us. Multiple employees walked by us. Nobody bothered to greet us, seat us, or even inquire as to why we were there. I sat down to wait. Another employee came out to change what was on the display board that I was sitting next to. We were waiting 5-10 minutes, had 3-5 different employees walk by us, never got addressed by any of them, so we left. I called to complain and the manager offered to mail me a gift card. Went again last month to get the gift card used. This most recent visit was about a year after the horrible visit we last had. Yes, the experiences so far made me wait an entire year to go back even armed with a gift card. Pros: We got seated immediately and service was quick. Pulled pork sandwich was great. Cons: I ordered mac and cheese and it wasn't creamy like I expected. It was definitely more of a very classic home-made type of mac and cheese. My dad loves his mac and cheese like that, so he finished off mine, but my picky mac and cheese tastes did not allow me to finish it myself. Overall, I'd say there was an improvement in service, but I can assure you that I will not be coming back here within the next year unless my meal is free or if all the other local restaurants mysteriously close up shop leaving me with no other choice. Heck, even then I'd probably drive out of the way to go eat somewhere better.

This was such a disappointment to my family. Such a waste of money and time. The corn bread was served first. More like a cake-like bread, than corn bread. But it was fine compared to the rest of our lunch. The brisket was extremely greasy. My brisket sandwich literally coated my hands with grease, while my husband's brisket in a bowl was swimming in a puddle of grease. My fries were brown and looked and tasted like they had been in a warmer for an hour. The beans were so sweet and full of vinegar, that none of us could swallow it. The ribs were ok. But the meat was a bit old tasting. We are big Redd's fans and why we ventured from them, I have no idea. I can't imagine this restaurant staying in business with another bbq place nearby that is far superior. By the time we got home, all three of us had sick stomachs. Lots of Tums consumed.

If you like grease, this is the place for you. If not, you may wish to consider going elsewhere. I wanted to love Horner's Corner, as I enjoyed a taste of their BBQ at the "Taste of Carlisle" and really liked it. Unfortunately, my experience at their restaurant did not reflect that first yummy taste. Our first visit, we were told that there was no tea or lemonade because they had yet to get the machine. It feels to me that they have been in business long enough to have this set up. Sweet tea and BBQ go hand-in-hand! We both got a platter (me: two meats, him: three meats), and were both grossed out by the layer of grease left behind after we finished our meat. The food tasted ok, but not fabulous. Thinking this might be a fluke, we chose to re-visit Horner's Corner to try out their burgers. My burger was cooked as I ordered it, but his was way over cooked. Plus, in addition to them buttering and grilling the bun, the burger is WAAAAAY greasy, so the bun is really a mess. It was pretty unappetizing. And yet again they had no sweet tea! (How hard it is to keep a drink cooler in the back with fresh brewed sweet tea??) Service has been good both times. The girl who waited on us last time, despite them being really busy, was actually fantastic! Oh well.......thanks anyway, Horner's.

Food was okay. I had the pulled pork sandwich and hubby had the brisket sandwich, which he really enjoyed. There was a lot of meat on the pork sandwich (def a plus) so I couldn't finish it all, and gave the rest to him. He agreed with me that it was pretty dry. My side of fries was lukewarm, leading me to believe that they were plated before my sandwich was done. The place was clean and the staff was friendly, and our special requests (toasting of the buns, coleslaw on the side, ect.) were accommodated with a smile. All in all not a bad place to go if you're in the mood for some BBQ.

I hate to be negative but I cannot recommend this place for any true BBQ fans. Real BBQ means slow smoked meats and the two true tests are beef ribs and beef brisket. They only serve pork ribs here so that leaves the brisket. I'm sad to report that it is not served sliced, it is shredded. That's the first clue that it won't be good. Often places in the north will shred the brisket rather than smoking it properly for 10+ hours. The thing is it was still very tough and had no detectable smoky flavor. One bright note was the Mac and cheese which was very good and clearly not the barely a step above Kraft that many places try to pass off.

This was my first visit to Horner's BBQ & Grill. It was quite busy but only had a 15 minute wait until we got seated. Our server was polite and helped me with recommendations on the menu. For an appetizer I had a dozen wings, smoky sweet sauce on 6 and Horner's hot sauce on the other 6. Both were really good and plenty of the sauce. I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs with baked mac and cheese and fresh cut fries as my sides. The ribs were excellent. The meat fell right off the bones and was quite tender. I will definitely go back.

Easily one the best places for BBQ in the Carlisle area, Horner's offers a great variety of tasty meat options that are sure to please. They have a wide selection of homemade sauce recipes (Horner's BBQ Hot is awesome on everything) and the staff are some of the nicest people I've ever experienced in a restaurant. The owner frequently wanders out to visit with guests and is always laughing and asking for suggestions. The cornbread is heavenly. Seriously. It's like eating delicious cake. Their loaded fries are a meal in themselves, and that's only an appetizer. I'm a huge fan of their pulled chicken, which is prepare so well that I sometimes don't even need to use any sauce. You get huge portions of everything (though I find the portions are larger when you dine in versus carry out), so you'll never leave hungry. I frequent Horner's at least once a week and I highly recommend you do the same!

I'm officially done with this "BBQ place". I have been going here since they opened, usually only ordering take out because I live so close so I cannot comment on the wait staff. When they initially opened, the portion sizes were larger. That kinda made up for the order that was always wrong when I walked out of the restaurant. I swear, I don't think I have ever ordered something and the whole meal was correct when I arrived home. It's either missing items (cole slaw, FF) or the food is just plain nasty. My most recent order was just last night. The "Pitts" burger appears to be a frozen patty and guess what......missing the cole slaw. The bun that was attempting to hold the burger together was so soaked in grease it fell apart on the bottom. (Should have took a pitcure) What happened to the fries???? Certainly not "fresh cut" anymore. I hate to be negative, I really like to see local businesses thrive, but I cannot support something like this. What really gets me is it doesn't matter the time of day or how full the restaurant is, the order is ALWAYS wrong. Yes, i have called and they have offered to replace the missing items and I have drove back to get sometimes but usually it wouldn't be worth it anyway. If you are ordering take out, go through every container (which you shouldn't have to do) before you leave or you too will be disappointed. Like others have also said, place your order and tell them to hold the grease.

Call it 3.5 stars. did not observe the "grease" problem other posters have mentioned, no one else in our 7 party did either.. Complaint: lunch 'special' portions were tiny for 6.99 for a meat and a side. Praise: creamed spiniach was 2nd best in the Universe. (yes, the whole Universe). Hence the extra.5 stars. Sauces were ok, spices were ok. Service was slow, but very friendly. Both owners came to talk to us.

Quick service. Decent food. Brisket chili was okay with a few large chunks of meat and a nice flavor. Drawback was cheese on top wasn't melted and spur cream really chilled the rest of the bowl. Pulled pork sandwich was okay. Meat was plentiful, but kind of damp and soggy in the middle. Held the sauce well, though. A nice portion. Fresh cut fries were the star of the show. Don't miss the fries. Would've enjoyed some malt vinegar on the table. Table mate had the two meat platter. Brisket was dry and chewy. When asked for a box, he declined. Better than fast foot, but not a go to BBQ joint.

Very good place to eat in Carlisle . First visit to this restaurant . Was greeted when we walked in the door and was seated immediately . We ordered the sampler and was enough food for 2-3 people . The ribs, chicken , and brisket was good . The pulled pork was very good . The broccoli salad was the true star of the meal . Our server Melissa was on top of things and our Arnold palmers never hit the bottom. The place is really nice and would be suitable for any occasion dressed up or dressed down .

While I feel bad for only giving this place two stars, I do feel it is justified. Allow me to begin by saying that the food here is excellent. We've ordered several times and have dined there once. We've never had bad food, but it's quantity that is a problem. I understand I'm not going to receive a heaping pile of meat for a moderate price, but the small sides are ridiculous; especially when you order takeout. The size of the accompaniments aren't even large enough for a child. Usually the other half doesn't finish his meals elsewhere, yet here he orders double side dishes. This wasn't an issue when Horner's first opened, but seems to be getting worse now. While we did enjoy our dinner tonight, we aren't going to pay the same price for less food. I can definitely understand limiting the meat portions, but things like mac and cheese, beans, coleslaw, etc., shouldn't be as skimpy as they are here. I'm not sure if this is an issue only with take out orders, as I read another review mentioning the same complaint. In any case, I believe to keep customers coming back a business needs to make them feel as though they are getting an adequate serving for the moderate menu prices.

Got the mac and cheese / pulled pork sandwich and loved it! I thought it could use a bit more Memphis sauce but was very tasty and could probable be a nice shared lunch. French fries were great as well. Inside seating is small but peaceful and very clean. A bit pricey but the quality was there, I thought. Just a quick stop in for lunch, so I hope to have a longer experience next time!

Meat was really good - I had pulled pork and husband had wings and ribs. Side of Mac n cheese was very bland and appeared to be food service quality with extra cheese whiz added in. Fresh cut fries were good, fried pickles pretty good too. If they can step up their Mac game, I think it'll be a winning combo!

Food and service are both top notch. Make sure to try the chili.

Decent food, sauces were a little bland for my taste. What really left a bad taste in my mouth was the Christian music piped into the place. If I visit again it'll definitely be for take out.

Been there 2 times. Loved the food and atmosphere. Didn't realize until later they forgot to give us cornbread but better for our health anyways if we don't eat it. I love their homemade sauces too. No problems with service or wait times.

I was really excited to try this new local restaurant. We went at 5:15 on a Saturday. We got one of the last tables in the place. Upon sitting, we ordered an appetizer of wings. About 30 minutes later we had to ask where they were. The waitress had no idea we wanted them before the meal. The $10 beach salad was way overpriced. It was the size of a side salad at most restaurants. My husband and I both ordered ribs. His ribs were fall off the bone delicious and mine were tougher. The service was very slow and our waitress was not good. The Mac and cheese was not very good and didn't look appetizing. I will give them the benefit of the doubt since they are so new and try it again. The corn bread was my favorite part and the sweet potato fries were good.

This was my second visit to Horners, my first was a few weeks after they opened and I was disappointed. My first rating was one star, this time I have increased it to two stars. After my last review the owner took the time to respond and invite me back. The owner and staff are very hospitable and welcoming, they are trying very hard to make this restaurant successful. The restaurant is very clean with comfortable seating. The walls are decorated in a bland, old fashion way. The muzak is bland and caters for an older crowd. Personally I would prefer to see something contemporary, photographs of pigs, the smoker, the wood stack, cowboys and steers, something interesting to look at, something that makes me think food, and anything more interesting than candles that will never be lit. The crab soup is very good. I know it is common to use a splash of sherry, but again personally I think it would taste even better with some roasted garlic to flavor it. I would also put in a bowl with steeper sides rather than a wide soup bowl which allows the soup to go colder more quickly. The French fries are very good, and I am guessing they are fried in peanut oil. The brisket sandwich was OK. Again it is all a personal taste thing, but I would prefer to have the brisket sliced and not shredded. I think it would hold its flavor better if it was sliced. By slicing you avoid stewing the meat, or worse drying the meat out.. The bun was fresh, I like mine slightly toasted with a hint of garlic butter, I am sure they would have done this if I had thought to ask. There are two sauces a sweet smoked sauce and a Memphis style which is a little more tangy. Sides are served small $1.50, medium $2.50 and large $4.50( for sharing). I like having a choice of size and price, I am more likely to try a side if there is a small size at a reasonable price. Staff are on top of things and pay attention to requests. Down the road at Brad's pizza they sometimes offer a good brisket and fries that is at a beter price point and a larger portion, there is also stiff opposition BBQ in town. There is nothing wrong with Hoerner's it is mostly about a reviewers preferences. I hope the business is doing well, as the Horners are nice people. If not then they make want to make some changes.

I've only eaten here twice. The first time I ordered the grilled mac n cheese pork bbq sandwich. It was incredible! Grilled garlic texas toast, homemade mac n cheese, carmelized sweet onion, american cheese, pork bbq, and bbq sauce on top. This was the best sandwich I have ever eaten and I was sad when it was gone. Yes, It was THAT good. The second time we went, we ate there. The servers were friendly, but seemed kinda new to serving. Our order got a little messed up and took a little longer than expected, but they made up for it with correcting our order, giving a discount and free deserts on top of that! (I got the same incredible sandwich again this time to and it was just as incredible!) I will definitely go back!

I love the food. I have yet to eat inside, so I can't comment on the service. Our orders were always correct and done on time. I love the smokey flavor and have tried every meat they offer. I am a big fan as well of their brocolli salad. My one and only complaint is I wish their hot wings were a bit more hot.

Went to Horner's last night on the way back from the Carlisle Corvette show. It was outstanding. The property, the décor, the food, the waiter staff, and best of all Brian, the owner. We had the following amazing food: the brisket sandwich, full rack of ribs, broccoli salad, cole slaw, garlic parm wings, sample of the crab bisque soup, & salt & pepper chips. The food here is excellent quality and tastes great too. I highly recommend the restaurant and its menu selections. I am from the Phila area and consider myself a foodie. I can't wait for next year's corvette show so I can go to the restaurant again.
