Fruit macarons are not the greatest and the staff takes a little while to warm up to you, but they are friendly. Great outdoor seating in the heart of Carlisle. Macarons are priced fairly at $2 each. Read more about our review here: wanderlustandsweets.com/…

I came in search of real French macarons. I was not disappointed. They have a very nice selection of flavors. No matter where you go, French macarons are expensive. They are very difficult to make and are fragile. They charge $2.00 per macaron, but it is worth it. I got a box of 10. My boyfriend ordered a cafe mocha coffee and was very pleased with it. Their other desserts and pastries looked amazing. We will be returning.

I've is my gotten both sweet and savory crepes here, and they are delicious. The Nutella and banana is my favorite sweet, and the ham, egg and gruyere is my favorite savory. I got a latte and it was good as well.

Overview: Quaint little bakery located on the main drag in Carlisle. Menu isn't too big but the food is homemade and flavorful! Food: I have only had the desserts and pastries, however they are very good. The ingredients are high quality and everything is fresh. The prices are a bit high, but I'm always willing to pay for good food. I do wish that their presentation for their cake slices had a bit more effort to it. For 4.50 a slice, a drizzle of chocolate sauce or a bit of whipped cream to jazz up the plate wouldn't be amiss. Recommend: I highly recommend their croissants, which are big, flaky, and perfect with your morning cup of coffee. Their cakes are also truly lovely. I had the chocolate almond, which was a truly superb blend of both flavors. My boyfriend had the Oreo cheesecake and raved about it all the way home. The macarons are also very delicious. They're a good size, the fillings are very flavorful, and the shells have a good balance of crispness and chewiness. My personal favorite is the espresso flavor! Atmosphere: The place is a bit small, but there is still a good amount of seating. It's definitely a college hot spot, but it's also just a nice place to relax with an afternoon cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Service: We were promptly greeted and waited upon entering the bakery. The cashier/waitress was nice and efficiently brought us our selections.

The macaroons are GREAT! They are larger than most (and I have had a lot of macaroons from a lot of places) and are the perfect balance of soft, airy, and chewy. Love the key lime, cherry, cinnamon, cappuccino... Can't wait to try them all. So glad we found this place, we were sad when our macaroon place on MD moved. We were fraud we wouldn't find anything to compare, but these are even better! They also make crepes but haven't tried them yet.

I so want this place to be good. Unfortunately, most times my latte is lukewarm and my crepe undercooked. And there is something off about the ambiance. It just feels cold and a bit dusty. I wish there was some competition to force Helena's to rise above the mediocrity of Carlisle resaurants. A dissappointment.

My son and I really liked this French cafe. We had sweet butter & sugar crepes and it was delicious !!! The cafe is kids friendly with a cute colored toddler table and some books. The staff was really friendly and gave us good tips about visiting Carlisle with a child. :) Overall great experience & highly recommended!!

My mom and I came for breakfast and had a strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe. The crepe was delicious and their menu has some other items I am interested to try. The desserts and macaroons in the case looked delicious as well.

Best crepes I have had in a long time. Perfect to satisfy a sweet tooth, or to enjoy brunch with their savory choices. Dessert are made in house and superb tasting macarons if any flavor...rose and lavender are my favorite not to perfumey but full of flavor. Coffee and tea are also delicious and great pair to their dessert or their crepes!

Cute little coffee shop. Definitely not a place to get work done, more of a social place. Can get pretty crowded at times like Sunday mornings so order may take longer. Homemade croissants are petty good (warmed up) and decent coffee (free refills!). Glad Carlisle got a place like this! Service is fine, not too friendly but not rude they just seem to be overwhelmed sometimes. Try it out for a yummy breakfast or treat! 3.5 stars

Recently I've tried an egg and cheese crepe, a macaron and an eclair and all were very good. The macaron was not as delicate and irresistible as the ones I've had in Paris, but Helena's did a great job. It was fresh and not crumbly and the filling was tasty. The eclair was very good as well and filled with copious amounts of fresh whipped cream. It was very rich and I even had to ask my husband to help me finish it, which he gladly did.

First time here. Loved it. Small, and local. Great food! Went on a Sunday morning, not busy at all.

I guess I'm against the masses here...I had some of the macaroons and they were sub par and cost way too much for the taste. $2/macaroon and were not discounted for a box. the prices were not given to the public either--i had to ask for the price. they could've charged anything and whatever they wished. i probably received the naive discount. however, if you've ever had a really good macaroon it should melt in your mouth and make you crave more. these simply made me not want to eat anymore. it's too bad...good macaroons are wonderful. i guess once you've tasted a Parisian macaroon or other well made macaroons it's hard to go back.

Ordered a cappuccino. It was tiny and over priced at 3 dollars and it tasted horrible. One sip and tossed it.

I was in town for business and another restaurant suggested I go to Helena's for carrot cake after my dinner. It was so amazing, I decided to get up early the next morning and come again for the BEST mocha I've ever had and a perfectly cooked crepe with mushrooms and gruyere. I wish to someday own a cafe as amazing as this place. If you live in Carlisle or you are in town for just a night or two, it is not to be missed.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while, especially since we moved into town. I got the chance this past weekend, and it did not disappoint! I went in knowing I wanted some sort of dessert, and I figured I'd just pick what looked great when I got there. Well that was everything, but I did narrow it down. I ended up picking a piece of a S'more pie type dessert. It was amazing. I offered to share it with my husband, but I have to be honest - he didn't get much of it! It was a perfect combination of chocolate, their home made marshmallow and a graham type crust. I realized after I had eaten the entire thing that I didn't get a picture. But trust me - it was amazing. I will definitely be back to try more of the goodies!

I tried this place for the first time and I think I'm in trouble! I have been looking for macaroons since the place I normally go closed and got the recommendation to go here. I was not disappointed! The macaroons were huge first off! Perfect cloud like cookies with awesomely balanced cream centers. The flavors were great and I was surprised how much I liked the cherry ones! I recommend getting there early, though! I got there at like 10:30 on a Saturday and pretty much cleared them out and I'm sure missed some great flavors. Can't wait to get there and try more of different kinds!

Get your coffee at Sheetz. This place needs to invest in a real espresso machine. Their stovetop moka pot is not cutting it. They leave it on the stove far too long, the coffee starts to boil, and you're left with an undrinkable, bitter, metallic, watered down cup of ram's piss you paid $2.50 for. Ambience is cold, stark, and empty; waitstaff is indifferent. Please get your act together and you would see more customers in your shop.

Not bad but wish they had more options, macaroons are good and the caramel cheesecake was pretty tasty

Helena's has been a favorite spot of ours ever since they opened. From their choice of authentic crepes, to gluten-free varieties, and macaroons, we simply cannot pass by there without stopping inside! The staff is helpful, offering their suggestions and the aesthetic decor is a pleasing comfort that envelops you when you sit down.

My husband and I were downtown for a light lunch at the Green Room. Unfortunately they did not open until noon and I, being pregnant, was not in the mood to wait for 20 minutes for them to open. We walked a few doors down and discovered this sweet little cafe. So glad we did! My husband had the crepe special which was smoked salmon with dill, capers, and creme fraishe. He was thrilled with it! I had a Nutella and strawberry crepe. Delicious! The crepe was perfectly thin and slightly crisp on one side. We will certainly be back for more crepes and to sample the tasty looking pastries and desserts. This is a great place for a casual brunch, lunch, or just for dessert.

I was gifted a box of macaroons several months ago. I fell in love with Helena's at that moment. The presentation was so beautiful. And the melt in your mouth cookies and flavors were amazing!! I was given a mixture of flavors and colors and they were all my favorite. I have since been back for lunch and had a great experience. Looking forward to trying more of their menu items and homemade chocolates!!

I can't wait to come back to Helena's!!! We got the crepes with peaches and mascapone and everything was so tasty. Everyone was very pleasant. And you absolutely must try the macaroons. I got the lavender and the pistachio and OMG my mouth was so happy. We have zero complaints.

We stopped in here after being turned away from the Green Room yet again. I'm so glad we did! We tried the special turkey, provolone, and chipotle mayo crepes, which were to die for. I love that they have a regular menu as well as a specials board. We also tried the chocolate-strawberry crepe and the flourless chocolate mini-cake. The cake was so good it was addicting! The sweet crepes were just as good as the savory. The service was also fantastic. Both counter staff (one of whom I think was the owner) were wonderful, gracious, welcoming, and great with a crowd. The place got really busy while we were there, but it didn't ruffle the ladies at all. Great little place, worth battling the nightmarish Carlisle traffic!

These are not the smartest business people. It is Monday, Christmas Eve and I have about a $100 order of chocolates, bread, cakes etc. to buy to get us through the holidays. The place was CLOSED. Monday they usually close but you would have thought they would be open on one of the biggest business days of the year. Tuesday they are scheduled to be open, but with it being Christmas Day I doubt they will open. So I took my order to Carlisle Bakery which was doing phenomenal business and had run out of many things. However they do not have the specialty chocolates that Helena's has so now I am a few presents short. The candy store on Pitt with a name too complicated to remember was open, but did not have end chocolate I wanted as stocking stuffers and treats. Downtown Carlisle was empty, even Green Room was closed. The Carlisle Theatre box office was not open. NO one was offering free hot apple drink or coffee. I love the hustle and bustle of last minute shopping. There was no one who thought to roast some chestnuts on the street. There was no one dressed as elves. There were no wandering Carole singers. Downtown Carlisle on Christmas Eve was a bust and had no holiday spirit. Where are people supposed to go when so many family and friends are coming home for the holidays and need a place to meet for breakfast, lunch and buy last minute stocking stuffers and gift cards. If the downtown vendors don't believe in a downtown, why should their potential customers.

I just had a fantastic lunch. Smoked samon crepe with cream fresch and capers. I also splurged on the dulce le leche desert crepe and it was worth the stomach ache that I got later from eating too much food. Friendly staff, small pleasant cafe. I will go back again.

You don't find many crepe places around, especially in the middle of PA! So for that I'm bumping up from 3 stars to 4 stars. Staff was very nice and the food was good but not fantastic. The place itself is nice, has free wi-fi, but again nothing spectacular. If you're in the mood for dessert or a lite bite to eat definitely worth a stop, very interesting place that I hope makes a go of it.

The macarons are to die for. And so pretty. We bought two dozen for an event and shared all of them. We will definitely be back for some crepes. My favorite was the mint chocolate by far. YUM

Both the sweet and the savory crepes are fantastic and I love the coffee too. One of my favorite places to go in Carlisle. Fast, friendly service, and with cases full of delicious desserts. The last dessert I bought there was s great that I would've happily eaten in bathtub-size portions. But I really like my sweets. Really amazing stuff.

Macarons were delicious! I arranged for Helena (over the phone) to make up a special assortment of cakes, pastries, etc for a client, they raved about them! Then after hearing such great reviews, I went and tried them myself - pistachio & blood orange macarons- delicious! Was also shocked/and happy to see GF cakes!

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Delicious crepes (savory AND sweet), desserts, coffees (mochas, espresso, etc.), iced tea, gelato, chocolates, soups....what more could you want? Delightful staff and always great service. One of my favorite "go to" places in Carlisle..

I wanted to try their crepe, so I ordered one with marmalade. It was lot thicker than the one I had experienced in Japan, but I don't know which is the authentic crepe. I don't normally get full after eating a crepe like I said, it's very very thin, but I was so full after Helena's. Their crepe reminded me of very thin pancakes. I recommend this as a meal, not as a snack. The macaroons were so pretty and colorful and I could not help but get me some. I bought a pistachio. It was good. What I really liked was their chocolate cheese cake. It was awesome. I will return to buy more of this.

I've tried many (too many!) of the crepes, and love them all. There are also sandwiches, soups, and artisan breads (on Saturdays). Coffee is good (wonder if they've considered using Courthouse Common beans?), gelato is great, and the desserts make me drool. The flourless chocolate cake was amazing! I've only tried a couple of the specialty chocolates; they make great gifts. While all of the above is worth the trip, what makes it even better is the friendly service. It's a comfortable place to stop for a bite to eat, and the great service keeps you coming back.

I saw the ad for this pop up on Pennlive ( blog.pennlive.com/life/2… ) a few days ago and noticed it was right next to one of my favorite food stops in Carlisle. Yesterday we decided to give this place a good ole rundown. With my wife being from Toronto, getting crepes is as easy as turning a corner, however trying to pull up places that serve crepes in this area is a little more difficult so we were thrilled when we read the word "Creperie" in the name. After having lunch we walked a few doors down. The front for the time being, only has info on the windows and glass doors and it is in brown vinyl lettering so it's easy to pass by. Stepping inside, colors are everywhere. Yellows, oranges, blues, pictures of big flowers and a flat screen tv mounted in the corner. There is free wi-fi so you can bring your laptop in and get a hot chocolate while you surf. Two university students were doing just that when we entered. The counter and crepe pans are to the left and seating for around 45-50 people to the right. 2 unisex bathrooms were clean and stocked in the back. Helena's husband Ryan was working the counter with 2 other employees and they were more than happy to answer any questions we had and were willing to throw samples of the gelato at us for approval. I gave the apricot a try and it was very tasty, smooth, and creamy. Pistachio was also given a whirl and again, great flavor to it. After the samples we decided on a Macaroon (The purple one, the name berry was in the title.) and a Nutella crepe. The macaroon looked very pretty until I took a bite out of it and it shattered. Taste wise, I'll give it an A, it was very fruity and sweet tasting, the middle filling had the consistency of chewy caramel. The crepe was dissected much like a high schooler cuts into a frog, just without eating it of course. They use a savory crepe batter instead of a dessert sweet style. It had a good crisp edge to it, and was very thin. For flavor, everything was great and I will definitely come back again to try more of their offerings when I'm not on a full stomach. Prices are reasonable for "gourmet chocolate" sweets. Crepes are between 6-7 dollars, macaroons and other small chocolates are 1-4 dollars. Slices of pies and cups of gelato also priced for a college crowd looking for something special without paying an arm and a leg. They take credit cards and also recommendations for different crepe ideas if you have any, also they are willing to put a custom crepe together for you if you don't see something on their menu that fits your craving. The only negative I have here and the reason for 1 star off is the store hours. They stop serving at 4:30 in the afternoon. Unfortunately the best time to get a sweet crepe or a bowl of gelato is after dinnertime in the evenings or during those warm summer nights after a long motorcycle ride. Maybe after being open for awhile they will expand their hours. If that happens, It'll be a 5 star from me.

Awesome crepes and super friendly staff. It's just down the street from the library, and is a great place to hang out for a while and have a latte.

I have to give Helena's a 5 star rating. OMG! Lavender macaroons! A sweet little gem in central PA which makes me miss SoCal even more. We are bookmarking the city of Carlisle, a college town, for future outings. Turns out there are a lots of little gems to be found there. Apologies to my husband, but I am so tired of chain and country restaurants!

So far we've only tried the French macarons, but they were TERRIFIC. (By the way, these are NOT coconut "macaroons" - they are beautiful, light cookies made of almond flour, egg whites and sugar with a flavored pastry cream or other cream-type filling.) We tried the lemon, strawberry, cinnamon and pistachio. All were good. They vary the flavors from day to day - others include chocolate and the owner said she may try blood-orange soon.

We ate here on Sunday morning, Sept. 25. The decor was nice, the people that worked there were pleasent. The coffee was decent, not Dunkies, the crepes were good. We could not finish them. The sticky buns were excellent.

We arrived late in the day. The prices seemed high for stale coffee and pastries. Clerk was busy getting ready to close. Fresher would have been better.

  • Julie P.

The crepes are very good. The only drawbacks are the hours are horrible and I barely can ever go with working a 9-5 job, and the menu isn't very creative. The people that work though are great.
