Cousin Pedro’s Menu

Lewistown has never had a real Tex Mex or straight up Mexican restaurant. At least not to my knowledge. So it was met with much excitement when Pedro's opened up last year. It took me that long to convince my wife to order food with me from there. Typically, if I get takeout, I don't necessarily review a place. In this case, I can as I sat down and took in some atmosphere waiting for my food. First, let me preface this by saying it was not busy when I went in. It may be an entirely different experience if it is. Pedro's is clean. Really clean. It looks new on the inside. The seating is counter service booth and table. There are paper menus on them but I am not sure if you get wait service, here. I think it is strictly counter. Either way, the clerk was very friendly. There was good clean banter going on between her and the guy cooking my food. It was cute to listen to. I sat, tapping away at my S5, waiting. I snapped a picture of the counter. I am always respectful of others when it comes to taking pics. So I only snapped one. The atmosphere, here, is laid back. It is tastefully decorated. There are what looks to be homemade treats you can buy at the counter. They also sell imported glass bottle soda but I would be careful drinking it. You never know when you might drink one that has gamma radiated blood in it. Ask Stan Lee how that goes. Hey.... Hulk fans get the reference. Now the food. I ordered a side of chips and cheese. These were solid appetizers. Typical Mexican fare. The entrée was a YOLO beef burrito. This thing was huge! It started with the taco meat. Then rice, sauce, refried, cheese of various types, onion, lettuce, and then all this wrapped in a tasty tortilla. Did I mention it was huge? It was covered with shredded lettuce and sour cream. The whole thing barely fit in the takeout box. This wasn't a Taco Bell pick up with your hands burrito. No, this thing meant business. Fork and knife required. Bite after bite made me fear for the end of this thing. It was that good. Everything just blended perfectly. The beans tasted perfect. The rice complimented the beef just right. The sauce had that little Tex Mex snap. This is was a great burrito, a proper meal, and a 4 star recommendation. On top of that, the bill was under 20 bucks. That included side chips and a chicken quesadilla for my wife. Not a five star. It lacks those crazy Mexican adult beverages and it doesn't have a sit down, wait service atmosphere . But that's ok. It is a good stop and a new local favorite.

I went there after looking at good review. Because of lack of business, They closed the restaurant. I am very disappointed that I didn't get to try their food.

The food at this clean, bright restaurant is delicious. They have a tortilla-maker that is not only cool to watch but means that every tortilla is crispy and fresh. I enjoy the taco salad. My hubby--this has quickly become his favorite local restaurant--likes the tacos, homemade salsa, chips and cheese dip. Check it out!

Reasonable prices, clean, fairly fast but the food wasn't very good. Very bland. The nachos didn't even come with jalepenos?

Great place for a quick bite to eat. The guacamole and the YOLO nachos are great. I recommend this place over Taco Bell any day of the week.

Very good! Found it by accident and glad I did. Simple, tasty food, great price. Had a burrito and Yolo nachos. And they were playing an NFL documentary on the 1975 Steelers, not that that swayed my review. Food was 4 stars, location and comfort brought it down a little. Definitely worth a stop for quick, good food.

I was skeptical about eating here. My Mom had brought home a menu, and some of the items had the phrase "YOLO" in them (as in "You Only Live Once.") There is definitely a void here in the Lewistown area, as we haven't had a real Tex Mex restaurant. Cousin Pedro's fills the void Lewistown needed. My Mom asked to try one of their homemade chips before she ordered her nacho platter because she's very picky about how her chips are. Even plain, it was absolutely delicious. We got our food for carry out and it was very inexpensive. She ordered the Pedro's "YOLO" Beef Nachos. The chips stayed crisp, the cheese tasted good, and the ground beef wasn't greasy. When she got to her side of salsa, she handed it to me, because she doesn't eat salsa. I advised her to give it a try, because I had already dug into my Chicken Quesadilla (which came with a side of salsa and sour cream.) She was so glad she did! The salsa is amazing. Fresh tomatoes and onions, and I mean FRESH. I also had one of their chocolate chip cookies! Also fresh, soft, and amazing! We ordered two more items for later, she got a bean burrito and I got Pedro's "YOLO" Chicken Burrito. I will amend my review when I get around to eating it, but I felt the need to get this out there. Amazing! I think this will become my go to place for good, cheap tacos! Edit: I've been back SEVERAL times! Everything on the menu is DELICIOUS!

First Mexican place in Mifflin County in quite a few years. They have an awesome tortilla press, and the inside is very clean, with a couple of TV's that usually have ESPN playing. I went the first day they opened and they were slammed. I got the beef burrito platter with rice, and the burrito was very good. Today, I got the $3.99 special which is 2 beef tacos, side and 24 oz drink= good value! The hard taco was small and ok, the soft taco a little bigger and better. The refried beans were on point, with a little spice, and not dry. Overall, I would say the menu is Mexican Fast Food but much better quality than a Taco Bell-type place. Plusses are value, taste, cleanliness. Minuses are smallish portions and limited menu especially if looking for a nice dinner.

Was ok, Not much taste in the tacos. When you can make better Tacos at home that doesn't say much. The hard shells were too small to put anything into them. The people behind the counter acted like they didn't want to be there. The Beans were actually real good and rice ok. Quesadillas were ehh, can make them better at home also. I will give it one more shot and try the burritos next time. Was hoping for more. Like El Campasino in Altoona. I guess something is better than nothing.

Wasn't bad. Would be nice if there was fajitas! Nice clean restaurant though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
