Sadly I moved away from the area back in 2009. This place was so good it excited me every time I went there. I still get the emails and drool each time. The Mac n Cheese was EPIC!! Plus it was in Booth's Corner which was a major plus. This was one of the only good things about living in Wilmington DE as it wasn't far from my office. The food made for great weekend leftovers. Keep up the amazing work.

Great Jambalaya and Gumbo :) enjoyed the food here.

UFB! (Un-Fricking-Believeable) Run to this place. Order anything on the menu. Eat it entirely too fast because your fingers have become puppet masters. Order something else because your taste buds WILL it to be so. Realize that you have to move at some point. Ask Don when he's opening a full time place. Order something for takeout. Roll back to the car with a huge smile on your face.

NOLA in the heart of Boothwyn! I've been to New Orleans a couple times, and I love the cajun/creole food! Cajun Kate's is the closest you can get to real cajun food without hopping on a plane. They have a featured po' bo sandwich every week; my favorite is the oyster po' boy. So far, I haven't had a bad meal here, and the fun, engaging staff makes the experience that much better. The only real downsides (which also makes this a hidden gem) is that they are located in the Booth's Corner Farmer's Market, they're only open 2 days a week, and the counter space is limited. I'm not complaining, it's just the way it is. Their Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, and Jambalaya are fabulous! You can't go wrong with Cajun Kate's!!

Best Cajun in Delco. Po Boys are tasty as they come. Gumbo is the real deal. If you never had Cajun have to give it a try

Amazing, after nearly 150 reviews here, I happen upon one of the best places in the world for REAL, home-style Acadian gumbo. We visited the Booth's Corner Farmer's Market for a taste of what the area Amish might have to offer, but being a southern/Cajun boy I was naturally drawn into the orbit of this little place. Owner Don was instantly our very best friend on Earth, going on and on about how he makes his gumbo and having learned much of what he knows personally from his former boss, Emeril Lagasse. (I'm no fan of Emeril myself but still, impressive credentials.). Don was a chef in New Orleans and to my surprise, knew the difference between a muffaletta and a po-boy. He also knew the vast difference between New Orleans (Creole) cuisine and true Cajun cooking. I'm in love with this guy. The gumbo was excellent. A medium condensed smokey roux which truly tasted as though it were made by the most seasoned of Cajun grandmas. I wanted to inject this stuff directly into my arm, and if you've read my other reviews of the regional Cajun fare here, you know that comment doesn't necessarily come easy. The jambalaya was perfectly seasoned, just spicy enough to be craved by this spice-freak Cajun, and just mild enough to be devoured by my weak-palletted yankee partner in food. This place is bound for local glory, if not a featured spot on one of those Food Network programs devoted to finding great food off the beaten path. Don says they're soon to open a shop-front restaurant. For now however, Cajun Kate's is only accessible on Fridays and Saturdays. The rest of the week is spent cooking to keep up with the heavy weekend demand. C'est C'est Bon! Laissez le bon temps roule avec Cajun Kate's!!!!!

The food is ok. Considering all of the five star reviews I expected better. The po' boy was good-spicy and with plenty of filling l- but the seafood was all frozen. The muffuletta was tasty but I expected more filling, ie wrong bread to filling ratio. There are five or six stools facing the counter but if you are sitting there expect to have people breathing down your back. Might try take out next time. The counter folks are nice but border on obsequious .

I went here looking for a good shrimp po-boy like I used to get in Memphis. So far I'd had no luck in the Philadelphia area finding anything that near resembled one until I found this place. I had a shrimp po-boy, and I wasn't disappointed. The batter was nice and crispy and little spicy. There were about five varieties of hot sauce on the table, so you could add more spice to suit your tastebuds. It was a really good sandwich. My boyfriend had the catfish po-boy which I tasted and it was just as good as the shrimp one I ordered. The people working there were really friendly and gave speedy service. Oh and my boyfriend kept going on about how good the coffee was. The only downside is that the market they're located in is only open on Friday and Saturday, and they only take cash. There is an ATM on premises though if you forget. Also, it's a food stand, so there aren't many places to sit. Also the menu is limited because it's such a tiny place. I wish they'd open up a full scale restaurant. I think they'd do well.

This place is as good as it gets. Having been to New Orleans many times, I don't expect most "Cajun" places in the NE to have real New Orleans food. There are many good New Orleans themed places that make good food, but not authentic, not like Cajun Kate's. If you've ever been to Jazzfest and experienced all of the great flavors, Kate's food is like that, but better. Gumbo is REAL gumbo, dark, delicious. Poboys are all great. Smoked brisket, pork, seafood. All spot on! I don't normally gush over a restaurant, but this place is just great. And great staff too. Thanks for all that you do, Cajun Kate's! I no longer have to go on vacation to get great New Orleans cooking.

All the praise is very well-deserved. Even Craig LaBan of the Inquirer agrees that Kate's has the best Cajun in the Philly area. I heartily concur. I made a habit of stopping by Kate's on the weekends last summer. I would see the signs for fried oyster po-boys (oysters flown in fresh from the gulf) and get all excited. I never got to try that sandwich. It was always sold out by the time i arrived. (Note: if you call ahead, they may set special items aside for you) But besides that one disappointment, Kate's food has never let me down. I LOVE the Tomato Garlic Parmesan soup. It is so creamy and full of flavor. If you eat in, it comes garnished with croutons and some sort of pesto. You may need to ask for some garnish if you get take-out. The Pain Perdu is also worth mentioning. Deep fried french toast with pecan syrup. It's diabetes coated in a heart attack, but probably the most delicious form of death available. Have it with a cup of their fabulous Cafe au Lait. I dont know what's in it (probably chickoree) but it's the best coffee i've ever had. I've also had the crispy macaroni, crawfish pie, gator on a stick, jambalya, red beans and rice, and several of the rotating gumbos and have only nice things to say about all those dishes. I specifically like the crawfish pie: puff pastry with a cheesy crawfish filling. Perfect to start your meal or to grab to nibble on while you browse the market. I've lucked out in that i always manage to come when a seat is opening up at the counter, but i have designs on getting tons of takeout (specifically the soup) and freezing it down to save on gas.

Note - this restaurant is a stand with stools in a farmer's market that is only open on weekends. In other words, it is a great venue. Kate's is as close to a typical Nola lunch stand as I have ever found in the area. The chef and his wife learned their trade in the Big Easy (with photos posed with celebrity chefs to prove it). The proof is in the mac and cheese, muffaletas and po boys. If you are on a diet, keep your distance. I like them more as a take-out, but the stools are fun too (warning, on Saturdays it can get crowded, for good reason).

This is a little stand in Booth's Corner farmer's market. Because of that, there have been times I've wanted to stop, couldn't find a seat, and left. But, trust me if I could have gotten a seat, I would have stayed. I'm hoping they'll expand if another spot opens in the market. The food here is amazing. Definitely worth the trip. Oh, and while you're there (if it's a Friday night) stop over to the auction across the street. Tons of great finds there!

I didn't even hesitate before giving this place 5 stars. New Orleans is my husband and my favorite vacation city and we miss the food so much when we come home. Someone suggested we try this place and it's quickly becoming a favorite! Here's what we've tried so far: Jambalaya- awesome! Great heat, rice consistancy was perfect (a peeve of mine). Exactly how i like it! Unfortunately, the hubby isn't into jambalaya, so we don't order it often. Red beans and rice- traditional & delicious Brisket Gumbo- so tender, smokey, ridiculously good. Muffaletta- this is one thing that you typically cannot find outside of NOLA. Many places do their own variation, but the bread and the olive salad makes the dish. I had heard that Serpes bakes rolls specifically for their muffs and I had to try it. Spot on! Love it, love it! Cafe au lait- mmmmm Beignets- this is the only thing I'd pass on. Very good, but made with cinnamon with isn't my thing. I always get take out and he packs everything for easy microwaving or reheating.

I'm a Connecticut Yankee through and through. I've never been to Louisiana. Thus, I don't pretend to know the first thing about authentic Cajun cuisine. However, I do know what I like and I like Cajun Kate's. Actually, I love Cajun Kate's jambalaya. The friendly owner Don allows you to sample his offerings before placing your order. Once I tried the jambalaya, I knew that was what I must have. The very reasonably priced medium-sized portion was just right to fill me up for lunch. It was spicy, but not too spicy. My half-Cajun comrade assured me that this was the real deal, but that's not why I liked it. While I appreciate the authenticity, the most important thing is that it tasted darn good. Who would have thought that the best Cajun food in the Philly area would be found in a largely Amish farmers market? I sure wouldn't have, but I'm glad I found this place. The only thing negative that I can say about Cajun Kate's is that it's only open on Friday and Saturday. Apparently Don is currently searching for a new location where he can operate more than two days per week. Wherever that location may be, I plan on swinging by for more jambalaya.

I read everyone else's review, and had to try this place that is close to my sister's new place. So we shuffled around our schedules to try this place before the holiday craziness. There was a long line in front of this small stand. I checked out the menu, although it was limited to maybe 25 items, the prices were more than reasonable. I ordered the smoked brisket provolone po'boy special. It was delicious! The meat was smoked perfectly and flavorful. It was a tiny itty bitty bit dry, but I tend to like very, very moist meat. The bread was soft and heavenly. Lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. I liked the pickles they put in. I will admit, if I had known they were going to put mayo on it, I would have asked for it without (it probably did not even need it and I love mayo), but overall it was a delicious sandwich. We also shared an order of benets. They were good and cinnamon (I think I tasted some) and sugar coated. They were warm and soft. There was a bit too much bread in the middle for me. I suggest trying it with some jelly - AMAZING! My sister and I already picked out what we are trying the next time we go. Hahaha

I am such a huge fan of this place. Even though it is only 4 or 5 stools in front of a small kitchen in a Farmer's Market. The food is home-made and amazing. Great Cajun food is few and far between. This place is tops in the area. I will travel for it.

I had read about this place in a few philadelphia food blogs and had to take the trip out to boothwyn to try it for myself. As a former Delco-ite, I used to frequent Booth's Corner for the baseball card stand and deep fried veggies. Oh how I wish Cajun Kate's was there during my youth. I convinced my roommates to make the 40minute drive out there this psat saturday, and I'm not quite sure they were prepared for the "treasures" booth's corner holds. But once we found Cajun Kate's it didn't really matter. There are only 6 stools which proved a tiny problem when there were 5 of us and already people enjoying their meals. No matter, we'll order and find somewhere else to sit. So a few Oyster po boy's, a crawfish pie, quart of jumbo, fried french toast, mac and cheese with crab and sause, and beignets later, we take our munchies on a quest for somewhere to sit. NOT HAPPENING. Thank goodness it was a nice day; we ended up making an imprompu tailgate on the trunk of my car. So the food. OH THE DEEP FRIED GOODNESS. I absolutely loved it all. My friends thought it was all "ok". psh. That mac and cheese was unlike anything I've ever had before. 2 large deep fried triangles of deliously creamy mac with crab and sausage with a side of a spicy tomato sauce. I could eat that every day. I think the best thing any of us ordered, though, was the crawfish pie. Soft, flaky crust with a creamy center and nice chucks of crawfish. DELISH. I would definitely come here again, just not with 5 people. Probably alone so I can maybe score a seat at the bar.

(For this review I will be handing over the reins to the very capable Ignatius J Reilly as his fine, discerning tastes and inimitable knowledge about Nawlins cuisine far outstrips my own. Pardon his tendency to drone on.) Dear Thoughtful Reader, Today was thoroughly unpleasant; a sloshy mud puddle of a day, abominably cold and damp. On days like these I am doing well if I have enough spirit to straggle out of the swaddling in my bed, but Fortuna's sweet promise of treats and savories, whipped up in the fashion known to my beloved home city was enough to set me down the road to the godforsaken corner where the dross of Delaware and Pennsylvania collide, Boothwyn. "Booth's Corner", as it were, my eventual destination. Inside this Ali Baba's cave (in warehouse incarnation) somewhere, a stand called Cajun Kate's was beckoning with it's aromatic toothsome fare. I was terribly enervated along the way; travel by automobile does horrors to my valve, which was sending out distress signals when finally I happened upon a space in the expansive, buzzing parking lot. Booth's Corner, a place heretofore I had never witnessed, is a veritable hotbed of activity, a sprawling chaotic market of sorts where all manners of merchandise are sold to the masses: young grabbing harridans, the watery-eyed aged, and everything in between shouting orders and taking slips of paper to endlessly queue up for produce, tchotchkes, fowl and Fortuna only knows what else. I was immediately lost. Passersby in this gigantic agora had the hurried, glazed look of those unconcerned for the man in peril, so finally I ventured to call upon a rather bored looking retailer ( he was hawking faux flora, bored I would be too) to point me in the direction of the stall in question. I finally happened upon it, the so-called "Cajun Kate's" showed to be a simple counter with a handful of stools lined up in front. Every stool was occupied save one, so I settled my carriage precariously onto this and took to scrutinizing the menu. The men behind the counter were cheeky, ruddy types with the air of true denizens of the Crescent City (whether they ever stepped a farthing's worth into the fair city or not I felt a mild kinship with them immediately). As I learned, this rudimentary counter took naught but cash, and since I was not sufficiently well-coined to order a smorgasbord I settled on jambalaya, "gator on a stick" , beignets and a cafe au lait. They took my order and tossed it between them until what was once a straightforward selection was now a patchwork of their own kitsch jargon. Presently, my food was delivered to me. I sniffed the fumes issuing forth with great sensory pleasure, the vibrissae about my nostrils taking in the smokiness of the alligator sausage, the serene aroma and pleasing hue of the cafe au lait, and the piquant spice of the jambalaya. I found the rice in the latter to be a tad mushy, but I will magnanimously forgive that offense because the rest of the dish satiated my hunger, as did the scrumptious sausage. After washing down my meal with the cafe au lait I accepted my beignets. Inquiring after the recipe I was told it was a Kate's original. Fair enough, but this did not prove to dethrone that of Cafe du Monde's. Still, I gobbled them down with great rapidity. I was deeply satisfied and settled my bill, and then set off home. I shall spare you, dear reader, from the account of the various atrocities and offenses to taste and decency I encountered on the way back to my warm bed. I daresay I will venture out to Kate's again, but I shudder to think of the journey involved. Until later, Ignatius J Reilly (Lisa's note: Booths Corner is great (as of course is Kate's). Do not read too much into Ignatius' vituperation ) Lisa's edit part 2: Ignatius can shove it. On subsequent visits, I savored the amazing tomato soup, the FANTASTIC fried mac&cheese, rice and beans, gumbo, and EVERYTHING is delicious. !!!! 5 STARS!!!!

While the Farmer's Market is a little weird, Cajun Kate's is worth the trip/experience. While their regular menu is awesome, I like checking out their weekly specials. If you can get there when they have their soft shell crab po' boy, I'd recommend ordering two! Also, the owner and employees are very friendly and great to speak with while eating your meal.

We had been looking forward to trying out Kate's for weeks now, every since we moved into the area. Finding the time to get over there on only a Friday or Saturday has proven tricky, but we pulled it off today. And now I believe we'll be scheduling our weekends around Kate's hours. It was absolutely fantastic! After finding the restaurant in the crowded marketplace, we were lucky enough to have two stools wide open and waiting for us. We sat down and immediately were greeted by one of the friendliest chefs around. Upon learning it was our first time eating here, he immediately began giving us hefty sized free samples of the gumbo, soup, jambalaya (jam), and red beans and rice. Each was delicious in it's own way. We ordered the tomato Parmesan garlic soup, jambalaya, and the mac and cheese. We were served quickly and he checked with us to make sure we would like each particular sauce or addition. Really conscientious service from a place that had people walking up every few seconds for their favorite dishes. The soup was the best tomato based we've ever had, the jambalaya complex and tasty, and the mac and cheese was...magical. Seriously, it's not in any way what you'd expect to receive, and that makes the fact that it blows all expectations away even better. We were full to bursting, otherwise I would have ordered a few more dishes and desert. They do all of their items for there or to go, and have most dishes pre-chilled if you want to take it home for later. The girl and I have already hatched a plan for weekly tomato soup grabs to take home and pair with our own grilled cheese. You can tell these guys care about their products, and enjoy seeing customers walk away stuffed and happy. To summarize, stop reading, mark your calendars, and go to Cajun Kate's. It's easily my favorite restaurant in the area. Now I must dream about it until next week.

Favorites: 1. Gumbo - I don't know what's in the gumbo except what the sign says. I usually get it more than once every weekend. I have eaten a quart of this among other items in one sitting. I prefer the gumbo with chicken & sausage, but the slow roasted pork gumbo is the definition of smoky richness and the harbinger of flavor. A+! Don made me a gumbo fan for life. I speak of his gumbo worshipfully. 2. Catfish Fingers - These are excellent! The winning element would be the coating, or breading, as it comes out less greasy, more spiced, and delightfully crunchy. The fish part tastes swell, too and like it should (not fishy). It's hard to wait til this dish cools down, so be careful! 3. Jambalaya - Sometimes I like to put hot sauce on the jamb. This dish makes a hearty meal. It has a touch of heat, but I usually don't notice it. Usually I eat jamb because a quart of gumbo is a lot of gumbo and it usually needs a compliment. I find it difficult to eat a quart of gumbo and then add jamb on top of it. Tonight I got jamb to go in the freezer, because it reheats good. Rice, sausage, and shrimp, and I was too busy eating it to notice what else made it taste so darnned good. 4. Red Beans - one weekend the red beans were served extra hot. I ate it twice as fast. I don't know Cajun food too well, but this dish screams of authenticity. Soft red beans that are in a flavorful mixture of thick consistency. 5. Crawfish Pie - This delicately flaky pastry with a warm & gooey filling of cheese, sour cream, crawfish tails, and spices comes hot, cold and uncooked 6. Tomato Soup - Unexpectly excellent as I've never had good tomato soup before! 7. Deep fried Mac & Cheese - this is a testament to the art of deep frying, oft written-off as a cheap & easy method of quick heating. Even if your fear of calories is overbearing, you should order this just for the experience.

Only gotten takeout here- I try to stop by on Fridays when it's not so crowded. If you can brave the people (and they're allll kinds) and the parking lot, it's worth it. The muffaleta is the best.

The food here is stellar. Faves include red beans and rice. The tomato soup is to die for. Their brisket po boy is their best specialty item. The food is killer. You have to be really patient to get a seat at the counter, or go during off-hours, but it is more than worth the effort. If all else fails, get their food to go. You will not be disappointed. Not sure, ask for a sample of whatever is on their menu. They will hook you up.

Oh man. Do you like Cajun food? Don't feel like going to the Big Easy? I don't know why I am doing this, as I have always regarded this place as my own little secret, but Cajun Kate's is amazing. They have a smoked brisket po' boy on special sometimes that will make your head spin. Deep fried mac and cheese with crab and tasso ham, insane. Muffaletta, gator sausage, gator on a stick, fried oyster po'boys on special, I mean, are you serious? One catch. The line. This place is in the heart of the Delco weirdo Bermuda triangle, and it's inside a flea market. In Delco. Catch my drift? So anyway, cash only, Friday and Saturday only, and there are only 6 stools. I have been taking my bounty and finding a bench around the corner, and eating like a starving hobo who wandered into a bayou oasis. Don, the main man in charge, was Emeril's sous chef for 3 years! I mean seriously. You think any of that crap Cajun food in the city is going to top him? I think not.

Awesome Cajun food found in a little stand in Booth's Farmers Market. Super freindly staff. Free samples of most things. Had the most AWESOME tomatoe soup EVER there.( am Im a big fan since the days of eating it along with a grilled cheese sammy as a kid) Now you might ask how a Cajun place offers that soup on their menu ( of course there is a different gumbo each week). They had it as a special once and it was such a hit its on the menu permanently. Their Tomatoe Garlic Parm soup with tasty croutons is da bomb!Worth the trip just for that. I also got red beans and rice, jambalaya and seafood gumbo to go. Two Thumbs Up!

amazing real cajun food. spicy. this is the real deal. it's small though, more like a food stand, only five people can sit down. you can even get an order of their special sauce to take out.

what can I say, every reviewer has touched on something inherently wonderful about this particular restaurant's fare, which is so expertly crafted, so widely regarded, and so beautifully recommended. chef Don is every bit the artist, music lover, pacifist, wiseman, the list goes on. usually people are upset about the wait or the lack of stools or the fact it's only open two days a week; to me that only elevates the exclusivity of the experience, from the tomato parm soup to the Cajun Mac -n- cheese, to any of the po' boys to the "breakfast of champions." if you don't know to what that refers, you're missing out. booths corner, Cajun Kate's, the best eating experience you'll have. go visit.

Easily the best place ever to get a po' boy. Even better than in the Nola! That also give great service and are full of life like the people in the Nola.

Stopped in and met Don and Kate, ate spectacular food. As I told Don food is great because it is unique to them. New Orleans style but still with their signature flavors and unique twists. The best part is menu changes each week, new stuff, new flavors, new twists on basic dishes. And you can get things to go to finish cooking at home. Glad they brought my towns culture to new parts of our land.

I wish this place wasn't only open fridays and Saturdays! The Cajun food here is sooooo good. My family and I usually pick up jambalaya and the gumbo of the week whenever we are having friends over. The people who work here are really helpful and always make suggestions on how to heat up/cook the food we take home. They also sell gator meat...I haven't been brave enough to try it yet but it's definitely something cool for all you adventurous eaters. If you come to eat on site it can be kind of cramped but the workers definitely make you feel welcome and you might even get to try some free food!

So after reading everyone's reviews I had to try it for myself. I had very high expectations and than they managed to exceed those expectations ! They offered me many free samples of delicious cajun food. Great conversation, and truly amazing food. I will be a regular now.

We had the pecan pancakes and one muffuletta plus an order of beignets too! Really tasty but it was too early for Gumbo! Although we did taste it and it was good too. Not enough to render a verdict. Bottom line: awesome food great atmosphere friendly workers. Give it a whirl.

Now that I have gotten more familiar with this area around my workplace I ventured into Booth's Corner on my lunch break. I walked past a number of very tempting places to eat but I stopped right in my tracks at Cajun Kate's. If I had had a longer stretch of time I would have sat and had an entire meal but I ordered the catfish fingers to go. I have had them at Warmdaddy's and Famous Dave's but Cajun Kate's were hands down the best. Perfectly seasoned, fried to a crisp and moist and flakey on the inside. And the cajun tartar sauce was spot on. For 8.00 I got a very generous portion of meaty strips and sauce. I will certainly be back and you should come too.

Amazing food! My fiance and i have been to NOLA and i must say, their gator poboy is better here. The beignets are good but not like Cafe Du Monde.the jambalaya was very tasty too. They don't take credit card so make sure you have cash! So worth it though.

I've been going to Cajun Kate's since it opened. The food is absolutely incredible. My favorite is the beef brisket po boy, which is only offered occasionally. The red beans & rice is really delicious with generous portions of meat and just enough spice to keep things interesting. Don't leave without trying the mac & cheese, it's definitely a must have.

Cajun Kate's is the perfect hole in the wall. Went with a friend on Black Friday and we shared several items from the menu. The staff is friendly, will engage you in conversation and are eager to tell you all about what they have to offer each day, as there are weekly alterations to their menu items. The New Orleans decor provides an at-home atmosphere amongst the many shops and patrons in the surrounding area of this farmers market. The gumbo was the first item sampled. Today's was shrimp and sausage. The roux had a very rich and savory taste, but slightly lacking in thickness (but that's not a bad thing). The rice and generous portions of meat more than satisfied my palate. Next was the jambalaya, which featured shrimp, chicken and sausage. My friend and I both agreed that it was easily the best we've had. There's an interesting spice (found in their creole seasoning!) going on with this jambalaya that permeates the entire dish leading to a very hearty and flavorful meal. There is no filler here; everything was clearly chosen to contribute to the overall flavor. Lastly, we split an order of the deep fried mac n cheese with lobster meat and Tasso ham, with a sweet/spicy sauce served on top (it can be served on the side). Just fantastic. It's hard to mess this one up; the mac and cheese oozes out when you cut into it, the lobster provides a tinge of sweetness, the ham gives that subtle peppery pork texture and the sauce was the icing on the cake. I can't recommended this enough. This is truly a hidden gem of the greater philadelphia area. You might think with these rave reviews that you're going to break the bank, but what if I told you that you could have all of the above, plus two drinks for under $25? Go there asap. There is always time to stash a little gumbo and you will not be disappointed.

There's two things I don't like about this place. NU THING! I wish they were open every day! when you're looking for a place to make your mouth happy and give your shocks a workout, get over to Cajun Kate's every Fri. & Sat. everything is so delicious that they completely sell out some items. Don, a former employee of Emeril, puts so much soul in his food, you need a separate napkin just to wipe the love! Great menu, fast friendly service and groovin N'alins tunes playing. High energy, fantastic food (including pre made frozen to go) great staff and some deserts you can't describe. MAKE THIS a destination, then walk it off in the Farmers Market. This is a must do. one of my favorite spots.

Nothing I can say that others already haven't. All of the amazing reviews are totally justified. The food here is SO good, the people are super friendly. Fully intend on getting lunch from here whenever we go to Booth's Corner. We had the crispy Cajun mac and cheese (unreal, my favorite), Crawfish pie and a po'boy (can't remember which one), everything was seriously delicious. Can't wait to go back.

This little place has won my heart with flavors straight from NOLA. It's a humble booth at Booth's Corner farmer's market. Pull up a stool at the small counter or get your meal to-go. Without fail, it seems that I always encounter a regular when I come here -- a great sign of delicious food. Then again, they know my name too. That's great service and some friendly southern feel for ya right there. The food itself is, well, astoundingly fantastic and delicious. This is the only place I'll go to get my Cajun fix. Don't let the fact that they pull stuff out of the fridge and freezer to heat/fry up to-order get to you. It still tastes good. If it's your first time here, they'll give you samples of their gumbo of the day, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. These three items are always amazing! They serve these in paper cups which appear to be unassuming, but I'm always surprised by how full I am after I finish eating. Po-boys also seem to be a crowd favorite, but I've only gotten one once, so I can't say too much about them. Lastly, fried mac and cheese. They offer a different flavor combination every week, and these are just epic. Mac and cheese goodness packed into a cube, battered, fried, drizzled with some sauce, and topped with green onions. It's so good, I never bothered remembering what that sauce is. I will typically split this and something else with someone because a thing of the mac and cheese by myself is way too intense for me to eat in one sitting. I think I can safely say that everything here will taste good, so get whatever you think you'd like.

Yes. Ohh yes. I drove a half hour to try this place and it was worth every minute. My friend and I split the gumbo of the day, the jambalaya, and the Cajun Mac n cheese with crab and Tasso. Everything was mind blowing and reasonably priced. Their jambalaya was the best I've ever had but everything was bursting with flavor. Keep in mind that this place is in the farmers market so they only have 8 cafe style seats. So now you know. Stop reading this and get in your car because I might eat the rest of their stock.

The epitome of a hidden gem. I am definitely a late comer to this flavorful culinary party known as Cajun Kate's, but as they say better late than never. In short, Cajun Kate's lives up to its great reputation and then some. This is a MUST visit and taste if you are ever in the Booth's Corner Farmers Market. They are ONLY open on Fri and Sat, so eat lite and workout all week, then bring a big appetite and reward yourself with this great tasting N'Awlins style food. I love that Cajun Kate's has a theme and focus because it allows them to stay very true to who they are as a brand by going deep on their concept, and not trying to be all things for all people. This is a true and authentic Cajun N'Awlins style culinary experience. I would recommend you try everything on their menu at least once, because I plan to. I enjoyed my first tasting at Cajun Kate's so much that my son and I went in for lunch on a Fri around 3pm, and then I brought my son and wife back at 8:30pm the same day for desert! We are at the counter for Lunch: - Crispy Cajun Mac & Cheese with Crab & Artichoke - Fried Oyster PO-BOY!!!!! - Catfish PO-BOY We took food home for Later: - Chicken & Sausage Gumbo - Sweet Potato Bisque!!! - Crispy Cajun Mac & Cheese with Crab & Artichoke (Yes, we ordered another to-go) We came back for desert and had: - Pain Perdu (Deep Fried French Toast) & Gator Sausage (aka the Champions Breakfast) - My 12 yr old son devoured this. - Beignets w/ powdered sugar - Bananas Foster Bread Pudding (To-Go) Everything We Ate Was DELICIOUS! As you can see I have found my new guilty pleasure. Truth be told, I am glad that they are only open on Fri/Sat, so I don't have to worry about over indulging. The service was extremely friendly and personable. Don the owner, and one of his helpers Gina are very genuine and good spirited people! I highly recommend you getting to know them as people too. Don is a bit of a "music-head" that likes to listen to vinyl records, and I found out is also a huge fan of the music of Fela Kuti. For me, there is nothing more mellow and laid-back than a Fri after work eating a delicious Oyster Po-Boy, some authentic Gumbo and listening to the groove & funk sounds of Fela Kuti... true bliss!

The reviews here do not lie. Everything at this place is excellent. The owners are friendly, originally from NOLA, so very authentic. It's located in the Amish Farmers Market with a handful of stools bar style for seating, so this means you either get it to go; or you try to come during a non-crowded time (aka not for lunch on Saturday at 1pm) if you plan to sit down. Red beans and rice, crusted crab mac and cheese, po-boys, I love their catfish sticks, just the right breading and fry and their spicy tartar is to die for. Get a bread pudding to go... yum. Not really kid-friendly with the food unless your kiddo likes cajun mac n'cheese or spicy catfish--so we go without the kiddo.

Well, I just got back from NOLA yesterday. I loved my trip to the FQ! We grazed our way from place to place, in search of the best Cajun staples, including the perfect Po'Boy. I could not find something to top Cajun Kates' smoked brisket po'boy. While this was disappointing, it left me feeling quite giddy that I have this place right in my back yard. I'm still on a cajun kick, and I can't wait to get here to get some of what I missed in NOLA.

What a great place. Pulled up one of the limited stools (this place is little more than a counter and a closet kitchen) and told them it was my first time. Out came good size, 3 bite, samples of Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red beans & rice, and Tomato parm soup. Each was fantastic, full of flavor, and an experience in and of itself. I went for the Jam and the meat lovers mac and cheese. You'll leave feeling warm, happy, and satisfied inside and out. Their menu has defintely made my menu wall. Pros: - Amazing food and flavors - Good value - Friendly service/environment, even when they're barking at each other Cons: - 6 stools at a counter Mind you this added to the overall experience and I'll definitely be back but a weekend kickback it is not; should you value your personal space, consider ordering it to-go and eating it in the car.

The experience is seriously hampered by the limited seating. If you need to sit next to an overweight person (which would seem to describe ALL their regulars) you will pretty much need to turn sideways. The Red Beans and Rice were superb. Lots of Andouille, and a perfect ration of rice to beans and gravy. Also has the crispy mac and cheese (which the sign said contained crawfish, but was apparently out of date. They change the dish every week, and don;t seem to care to update the simple computer-printed sign. Food is prepped to order and arrives piping hot. Mac and cheese was lightly breaded and DEEP FRIED (which might explain the girth of the regulars.) In all, very authentic NOLA-style cuisine, and friendly and efficient service. It would have been more pleasant with a table and without a dozen people behind us eyeing our seats.

Amazing little Cajun spot located in Booth's Corner Market. I ordered the gumbo of the day and my fiance ordered a deconstructed shrimp po-boy. Basically it's a shrimp po-boy thrown together like a salad without the bread, absolutely amazing shrimp and tasted exactly like an authentic po-boy. The gumbo, simple yet amazing. It has a bit of a kick but I like things extra spicy and they let me try their homemade hot sauce for some extra heat. We also had an order of beignets and they were very tasty and decadent, lot's of powdered sugar and definitely reminded me of New Orleans. The owner is very personable and we got to talking and asked about how they got into cooking Cajun. Turns out he used to work for Emeril down in New Orleans at NOLA. The quality of the food goes to show and you certainly won't be disappointed. I'm leaving the West Chester area shortly to be closer to my fiance and this place will certainly be missed. A must stop if you're ever visiting Chester County or Booth's Corner for sure. FYI, tiny, tiny booth with maybe 8 seats max. If you want to eat here you may have to wait a bit. They will also kindly wrap up a to-go order if you so desire.

I drive from 30 minutes away just to eat at this 6 seat counter. Some of the best cajun food I've ever had. Don and his team are also some of the friendliest people. Make sure you get on their email list for the weekly specials.

The food is good, don't get me wrong. Is it the best of the best, in my opinion no. But again, as stated in previous reviews, this is simply MY opinion. The menu is full of very heavy entrees. The Red Beans and Rice is good. Fried Mac and Cheese is very good. Take out is a waste because the food is best eaten hot and reheating at home is nearly impossible. Someone mentioned the muffelletta is the wrong ratio of meat to bread to olive tapenade and I would whole-heartedly agree with that statement. The Po-Boys are hit or miss. Had the pork po boy once and it was simply average. The seafood po-boys totally rock. If you happen to get a seat, be SERIOUSLY prepared to have everyone staring at you in anticipation of you finishing and sometimes literally breathing down your neck.

Cajun Kate's is PHENOMENAL. Firstly, this hole in the wall can hold it's own against any Philly restaurant. Read some of the reviews for this place, the one yelper wrote a short story from the vantage of Ignatius J Riley from A Confederacy of Dunces. I can't compete with that review, however it is spot on and I sometimes read it in the parking lot while receiving my weekend sacrament from Kate's. Yes, it's that good, it will absolve you of your sins, namely the copious libations you have transgressed upon your liver the night prior. Repent and grab yourself a po'boy, jambalaya and fried Mac n cheese.

It is unclear to me why I haven't already posted a review of Cajun Kate's. I have been eating here for years and always left smiling and satisfied (That's what she said!). From the Catfish Fingers to the rotating parade of gumbos, everything is homemade and delicious. Even the sandwich spread is their own recipe. I especially like the Crawfish Pie, a savory puff pastry bundle of creamy, cheesy goodness. They also have the good sense to offer diet and regular Dr. Pepper. Moreover, the friendly welcome you receive from Don (Kate's husband) and his staff makes you feel good on the inside. Music from New Orleans (where Don & Kate cooked for years) fills the air. It's a good time for all here at Cajun Kate's, located in Booths's Corner Farmers' Market in Boothwyn. You won't be disappointed.

If you are reading this, it is Friday or Saturday, and you are within 1000 miles of Cajun Kate's, stop reading immediately. Go to your nearest car, airplane, helicopter or boat and begin your journey to Boothwyn. Thank you letters can be mailed to my office or via email. I have to preface my review with two facts: 1) I have never been to New Orleans 2) I have only been to Cajun Kate's once. Yet, I am undeniably qualified to speak authoritatively on the matter. Why might you ask? Well.. just because. This is my first, and will be my only, Yelp review. Food I ordered: Jambalaya - 10/10 - perfect mix of rice, sausage and shrimp; well spiced Cajun mac n cheese w/ crabmeat and tasso ham - 10/10 - abusrdly large portion, crispy on outside yet soft and delicious on inside, tomato glaze is unreal Catfish po' boy - 10/10 - simple but perfect. catfish is fried perfectly with a nice spice blend, the roll is soft and the mayo and pickle bring it all together. Food I sampled: Brisket gumbo Red beans and rice Tomato garlic soup Slow roasted pulled pork Crawfish pie Banana bread pudding Naturally, everything was perfect. Personal favorite was the red beans and rice. It was previously impossible to fathom how such a simple dish could have so much flavor. Don said he occasionally makes it with habaneros for extra kick. I will be back. People I like: Don - the owner/chef. Don is the absolute man. Go meet him and eat his food. People I don't like: Anyone still reading this on a Friday or Saturday -- Heading back on 95-N my buddy realized he left his glasses there. Feelings of frustration instantly turned to joy as one thought crossed our minds: it's muffaletta time. Repeat: IT'S MUFFALETTA TIME. Muffaletta did not disappoint. See you soon, Don. See you soon.

I've lived in North Delaware for the last 20 years and yesterday I tried Cajun Kate's for the first time. My wife picked up the jambalaya and Gumbo! Wow was I missing out. This was the best Cajun food I've eaten and I've been to New Orleans several times. The only thing I can say is I won't miss out again. At first I thought it was a little pricey until I tasted the food. Well worth it! Get he bigger container the first time it'll say you a trip back the same day.

We flew in a few hours early for a wedding in Chadds Ford and wanted to find a good lunch, so we Yelped and couldn't quite believe the high rating this place had---and if it was true, we wanted to eat there! Cajun Kate's totally lived up to it's reputation. We ate pretty light---after all we had a wedding dinner in a few hours---and just split between the two of us a crawfish pie and a block of the macaroni and cheese with crabmeat and ham. Both were easily in the top 5 things we've eaten this year. Plus we had a fun half hour talking music (and getting good recommendations) from Don, and the rest of the staff was just as friendly. Not sure when we'll be back in the area, but if we're anywhere even close to Philly on a Friday or Saturday, we will be back and bring along anyone we can. Great food, great music, great coffee, great staff.

Belly up to this tiny counter in the heart of Booth's Corner for the best damned Cajun cuisine you're going to find anywhere, this side of the bayou. Everything -- and I do mean everything -- here is lip-smacking good. Today I sampled their pulled pork po'boy with provolone, pickles and lettuce (hold the tomato, please). The first thing you notice when you order any of their sandwiches is that the bread is superb, and akin to the very best that NOLA has to offer (which is Leidenheimer's French bread, in my humble opinion). The golden brown crust crackles in your mouth when you bite down, and the crumb springs back as you draw the blessed po'boy away from your lips. Close your eyes and listen to to the crunch. I know that I'm dining at an authentic New Orleans eatery when I take such careful note of the quality of their bread, and this is as real as it gets. Is it baked locally? And if so, where can we get some? The pulled pork was slow cooked and seasoned with just the right combination of cumin, cayenne, paprika, pepper, garlic and onion -- and yes, you can taste them all (close your eyes again and let the juices wash over your tongue). The meat is tender and moist and practically melts in your mouth. My po'boy was accompanied by a steaming hot side of cafe-au-lait made with Cafe du Monde dark roast with chicory, and it was spectacularly good. For a split second it felt like I was sitting in the French Market on Decatur. Four talented cooks work the stand, led by Don, the owner, who lived and cooked in NOLA for seven years. They're all enjoying what they do and it shows. Stop by and join the party. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Amazing food! Great staff! It's a great environment for a great price. I highly reccomend everything on the menu! We had amazing red beans and rice as well as the gumbo. The Mac and cheese was tasty and so was the Gator on a stick (which is in sausage format).

I travel to NOLA (specifically the French Quarter) infrequently - but as often as I can, just for a break, and to get my fill of the jazz and the Cajun and Creole cookin'. And it used to be that, when I returned home, I'd try to find some local restaurant that had food comparable to what I'd been eating in NOLA. Since Cajun Kate's has been at Booth's Corner, I've reversed my comparisons: Now, when I go to NOLA, I seek to find Cajun cooking as good as what I get at Cajun Kate's! Thanks, Don, for bringing the authentic Cajun cookin' to this area! It don't get no better than this!!

I love this place. The jambalaya is as good as you will get around these parts - chicken and smoked sausage goodness. The gumbos differ each week. The Mac and cheese is out of this world. The Tomatoe soup with pesto and croutons is the best I ever tried. The shrimp po boy I ate today was fantastic. The one problem I had today was service from the young woman who worked the counter. I asked for a soda. She ignored me. Twice. I gave her my po boy order and she didn't put it in. The guy who sat down next to me 10 minutes after I arrived got his order first so I checked to see whet my sandwich was and learn it wasn't even turned in. The problem is the food is so good I have no choice but to put up with this employee who doesnt seem to care.. Everyone else is great.

Seriously...right out of NOLA!!!! Amazing PO Boy that was so good it made me close my eyes! I got the shrimp PO & it was fabulous. The red beans & rice are great but hot & spicy as a warning for those not able to handle the heat! I wish this place was bigger & located closer to my home...I'd live there! Going back!!!!!

Wonderful. Delightful. We had a scrumptious soft shell crab po' boy sandwich for breakfast and our tummies were happy all day long. The cafe au lait was perfect. The beignets were fabulous, they could have come from Cafe du Monde. We had a taste of the tomato bisque and that too was great. The two people behind the counter were a joy to talk with. We are gong back! It was the closest thing to New Orleans outside NOLA. After we ate we wandered thru Booth's Corner Market and that too was fun.

Everything I've tried here is wonderful (gumbo, jambalaya, popcorn crawfish, crawfish pies, crispy mac&cheese) but the real standout is their weekly Po'Boy special. The fried oyster is hands-down our favorite, but we've also enjoyed the brisket and pork. Always fully dressed with lettuce/tomato/pickles/mayo... yum. Don and the staff are wonderfully friendly and accomodating. However, the stand is small with only a few counter seats available, so we usually get ours to go... and sometimes don't make it past the parking lot before digging in. Oops!

Amazing food! My fiance and i have been to NOLA and i must say, their gator poboy is better here. The beignets are good but not like Cafe Du Monde.the jambalaya was very tasty too. They don't take credit card so make sure you have cash! So worth it though.

I will certainly be back and you should come too.

what can I say, every reviewer has touched on something inherently wonderful about this particular restaurant's fare, which is so expertly crafted, so widely regarded, and so beautifully recommended. chef Don is every bit the artist, music lover, pacifist, wiseman, the list goes on. usually people are upset about the wait or the lack of stools or the fact it's only open two days a week; to me that only elevates the exclusivity of the experience, from the tomato parm soup to the Cajun Mac -n- cheese, to any of the po' boys to the "breakfast of champions." if you don't know to what that refers, you're missing out. booths corner, Cajun Kate's, the best eating experience you'll have. go visit.

Easily the best place ever to get a po' boy. Even better than in the Nola! That also give great service and are full of life like the people in the Nola.

For me, there is nothing more mellow and laid-back than a Fri after work eating a delicious Oyster Po-Boy, some authentic Gumbo and listening to the groove & funk sounds of Fela Kuti... true bliss!

One word: Jambalaya! It's the best I've ever had.

Yes.

I am such a huge fan of this place. Even though it is only 4 or 5 stools in front of a small kitchen in a Farmer's Market. The food is home-made and amazing. Great Cajun food is few and far between. This place is tops in the area. I will travel for it.

!!!! 5 STARS!!!!

Been here for 3 years and never knew about this place until last weekend. Best Shrimp and Fried Oyster Po' Boy on the planet. If you're in the area, don't hesitate!!!

Only gotten takeout here- I try to stop by on Fridays when it's not so crowded. If you can brave the people (and they're allll kinds) and the parking lot, it's worth it. The muffaleta is the best.

Hahaha

Oops!
