Early dinner yesterday with the wife. Transplants from NY we're always searching for good food/prices/service. We have dined here probably 10x in the last 3+ years and we have never been disappointed in either of my three critical categories. Yesterday was no exception. Starters included cup of house-made French onion soup and small side salad (spinach) w/house-made dressing. Both delicious. We had burgers this time Mine was the Colonel Burger (stuffed with fries/slaw/egg/bacon), which was killer and the wife had the expresso burger (lightly dusted with coffee flavor and a hunk of Gouda w/caramelized onions, also spot on. Burgers included regular french fries and sweet potato french fries with I believe sea salt. Both were fresh cut and actually very good and plentiful. Service was excellent and the prices were as expected. Why not 5 then? There really weren't any misses but we must leave room for improvement.

Whatever you do don't sit in the bar if you aren't a local. You won't get served and service is BAD. We waited 20 minutes for a beer and asked several times if we could get a waitress. Apparently only the bartender can serve people seating in bar or at the bar even though there are waitresses congregating at the bar. We saw locals come and go with refills of beer and food. Food was good though. First time ever I didn't leave a tip. Ruined our old town experience.

It was basically okay. I think it was not so cheap, kind of greasy. I really liked the onion soup though. It is a good place to have some drinks with friends. The cake was awesome, as last time I went.

Ate here several times during my stay in BB. Very quaint and people are very nice. Food is very good. Kids liked it too. Quiet, not for party people most nights.

While we were a bit disappointing with the champagne offerings, my wife and I both really enjoyed the food. The service was just OK and the beer selection was a little weak in my mind. But neither was enough to keep us from wanting to go back.

NEVER GO TO DUFFY'S. They continually lied about our wait time (after forgetting about our reservation), saying that we would have food "very soon", but made us wait over an hour for a table and another hour for food. After trying to talk to management, we were lied to again - told that the owner was "working in the kitchen for 10 tickets" when we were the only customers left in the restaurant. Suffice to say, we will never be back.

My daughter and I happened upon this very charming place and enjoyed seafood crepes, calamari, crab dip and crab cakes. We sat next to Bruce Clark and his wife ( Penn state all star footballer and Saints). They were so friendly! Sweet potato fries were great!

My fiance and I went here for dinner and he found a very long hair in his burger. The waitress took the burger away, but brought back the same plate that the hair had touched with the fries on it and set it down in front of him, saying "at least the fries are still good." We waited about 15 minutes for a new burger, which did not come with fresh fries. The waitress then proceeded to dump the (now cold) fries from the hair plate onto the new plate without asking. They charged us for everything (including the additional $1.50 for fries), and didn't offer anything to make up for the experience. The burger was also ordered medium rare but came back well done both times. Finding the hair was gross, but the inadequate response was worse.

Good food but horrible service. Waitress was so rude and disrespectful. We had a party of 11 and none of us will go back. Complained to the hostess, she said she'd talk to her....but doubt that will happen.

I love the rustic charm of this place. It's a very old house with many interesting rooms. We celebrated our 7 year anniversary here last night and had a great time. Our service was fantastic! We order the calamari as an appetizer which was cooked well and had 2 well-paired sauces. I got the rack of lamb with polenta cakes and it was delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend ordered te prime rib which also didn't dissappoint! We'll be back!

Due to schedules not working out over Christmas, my boyfriend and I were not able to take a weekend to visit my parents in western Pennsylvania. We decided to meet halfway to have lunch and exchange gifts and found Duffy's as a reasonable halfway meeting point. Our lunches were good - we ordered mainly sandwich and salad fare and tried the pumpkin soup, which was a bit rich for my tastes. The service was fine during the lunch hour. It appeared most of the guests were like us - out of towners. The price was OK for what was offered and the portions were fairly standard. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place - the old, warped floorboards and 19th century inspired prints and paintings on the walls. It was decorated nicely for Christmas which probably helped add to the ambiance even more. If we need to have another halfway meeting point, we'll certainly consider coming here again!

Lovely atmosphere and really friendly staff. The food was absolutely delicious, both the vegetarian and the meat dishes. The potato salad they serve on the side also tasted pretty good, while normally I am not a big fan of those.

Stumbled upon this for lunch while dropping off son in State College, PSU. We dined on an interesting selections of soups and salads. Will go back for dinner.

Worst. Service. Ever. They have little to no vegetarian or seafood options, even in salads, so I would always order the crabcake sandwich at lunch. They took it off the menu. I would ask for it, and after reassuring the server the kitchen could handle placing the crabcake on a bun they would usually concede. The last time I went our young, dark haired waitress outright refused, without even the illusion of checking with the kitchen. I ate a disgustingly wilted side salad with slimy mushrooms for my meal. She never gave us refills, and had an attitude like, "Why are you even here, I was busy leaning against the wall". Their food is blah and small portions for the cost. The only redeeming quality (hence the second star) is $1 Yeunglings.

I'd never been to the tavern before recently helping to host a bridal shower there, and was extremely impressed with their service! We were able to rent the private room upstairs, for no additional charge, which was a large old room with a fireplace and a lot of charm. We had our own server, who was very attentive and fulfilled all of our requests, and didn't blink an eye when we added guests to the party at the last second. The food was reasonably priced, everyone was happy with all the choices available. Best of all they let us have individual checks, and even split the bride to be's bill on to each check for us! Duffy's made the shower a success, I'd highly recommend them if you're looking for somewhere to host a party!

Dinner after Blue and White was excellent and away from the craziness of State College during a football game. Seated immediately in the tavern and enjoyed our evening! Definitely must return. Historical building and great surroundings. Outside area looked interesting so we may hit this in the fall!

I'm pretty sure that I couldn't have been more underwhelmed by this place. Our server was the worst server I've ever had in my life, which makes him worse that the one who basically asked for my number while I was somewhere with my then boyfriend. He was just so apathetic to everything; we had to ask for refills repeatedly, he messed up our food order, insisted I had ordered a salad (when I got a sammich) and instead of saying "Hey I'm going to go check on what's going on, I apologize" he just walked out and we sat there for about 5-7 minutes until he brought out my food and just set it down, blaming another server and never apologizing. On an amusing note, he asked how a friend wanted his veggie burger cooked; we all got quite the laugh out of that. When check time came, the first time he said to make a list of how much we wanted on each card, and he could split it that way. The second time, he said that the only way he would split the check was evenly over credit cards. Luckily we had ordered things that were all about the same price, but it could have been a real hassle. It took him about 20 minutes to bring out. I have a high tolerance for service mistakes-- as long as it seems like you're trying. The food was mediocre, but the service really just killed it. Smile, and act like you care a little bit. One perk? With our party of 11, they didn't add in the gratuity... with such horrible service, we would have paid the full amount, but only begrudgingly.

Date Visited: Monday 6/22/09 (Lunch) Once again, the smell of seafood may have been the thing that made my eating experience less than it could have been. After a morning of driving and site-seeing, we stopped at Duffy's to refuel. I had the Grande Nachos (or something like that), which were definitely grande. It had a little bit of cheese, guacamole, salsa, some greens, and sour cream. It was all piled up on the plate with a bunch of chips. If there were more cheese on the chips, I would have been happier. Beans or black olives could have helped too. It's a nice restaurant that probably needs more parking spaces and a waitress that needs to be a little quieter, especially when sounds travel quite easily where we were seated.

"Duffy's Tav" as we like to say is truly as good as it gets for the region. The ambiance is very warm and brings you back to what it may have been like in Centre County 100 years ago with its rustic interior and unobtrusive antiquities. The food is very good, especially the burgers. I ordered one that came with fried onions, bacon, coleslaw, and a fried egg (yoke unbroken) and it easily made my top ten list of best burgers ever. It's a modest drive from the center of State College, but its more than worth trip.

Wing night is Wednesday evening, 25 cent wings with several great flavors. Friendly staff, in a historic surrounding. This was a tavern in the 1800's. Don't concern yourself with the creaky floors, this gives the place character and charm. Parking is not always the easiest to find. Dress can be casual or formal as there are different dining areas for any occasion. One of two pubs in this little burg, you'll probably run into the rowdier group of the locals here. (of which I am proudly a member)

We were on our way home from a mt. biking weekend near State College and I've been eating here off and on since the late 80's when I was at PSU. I thought that I'd show my friends Duffy's, a classic tavern, with good bar food, in a cool old building. Apparently, there are new owners and things are quite a bit different than I remember. We sat outside (table of 5 including my 8 year old son) and waited 20 minutes to get our sodas/beer and then had to remind our waitress that we also wanted waters. Another 5 minutes and she spilled them on the table next to us and then we eventually got some water. So about 1/2 hour into this experience we have lowered our expectations greatly and are just hoping to get some decent food as the service is definitely going to be bad. This is Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and it was not busy. For appetizers, we order the wings and fried yellow peppers. The wings are flavorful and good - the peppers taste like fried batter and have no flavor. We don't get plates and have to resort to throwing the bones into a popcorn basket that my son had - no one ever notices this. Three of us order the ciabatta steak sandwiches and have to remind the server that she should ask us how we want them prepared. Two rare, one medium. Two order onion rings as a side my son gets a cheeseburger. Now we are 1 hour + into this when our food arrives. My rare steak sandwich is medium and the other two are well-done. We are NOT sending them back, because we don't have time to wait again. My son's cheeseburger appears to be already formed rather than made there. Considering that their adult burgers are in the $9-12 range I'd be mighty dissapointed had I ordered one. The food here is 2 1/2 stars, the wings are 4, the service was a 1 star - It really was the worst service I've ever had. I can not imagine how anyone has had a 5 star dining experience here - seriously you need to get out of Centre County once in a while. We won't be eating here again and with other options available nearby you may want to think twice as well. PS - There was an issue with their computer system and two of our debit cards had holds placed on them for the entire bill so I spoke with Tracy, the owner, a day later to get it sorted out and shared how awful our experience was. She apologized, made some excuses about people not showing up for work, our server being new, basically that there wasn't anything that she could do about it. Just bad luck for us. For $90 I dont' want to risk "bad luck".

This is a terrific restaurant. Tons and tons of food options / extensive menu. Blackened salmon salad was wonderful, so was the pasta putanesca. Nice beer options, beautiful old building restaurant, great place to know about, will hit it up again next time I am passing through.

Really beautiful, historic building, the seating on the glass-enclosed porch was very nice since it offers a view of the garden. I have been here only once for lunch, which turned out to be delicious, I ordered a sirloin steak sandwich and the steak was cooked perfectly; their sweet potato fries were also very tasty. Looking forward to going back for dinner.

Nice low key spot for happy hour drinks from 5-7 at the bar! There is free popcorn at the door, and the staff is friendly and attentive. If you are dining, there are many good seats in the house that are comfortable. Jaimie was our waitress and greeted us promptly and provided us with great hospitality! Love this spot!! Will be back here soon.

My husband and I decided to try Duffy's with another couple since we saw they recently added a new martini menu. Upon arrival we were seated without a wait. There was, however, a large party upstairs so it took some time to get water and a visit from our waitress. Duffy's menu is pretty large, so while we made our selections the waitress took our drink orders - 2 glasses of wine and 2 martinis. While I did not have a martini, our friends said they were poorly made and had too much vermouth. Our wine was as expected. We ordered our food - I had a spinach salad which had dirty mushrooms on top and french onion soup that contained way too much bread. The roll that was supposed to come with my meal never arrived. My husband had the Rachel sandwich with sweet potato fries except he was brought cole slaw. The fries eventually showed up after we alerted the waitress to the mistake. The fries were pretty good, better than others we've had in town. Our friends had a buffalo chicken wrap that looked to fall apart and the coffee burger lacked any coffee flavor with runny potato salad to boot. I can't say any of us were pleased with our meals. Our service started out fine but took a dive when we tried to get water refills and then the check. The waitress dropped off the check but before we could ask her to split the bill between our two parties she ran off. Once we flagged her down and asked her to make the change to the bill she rolled her eyes and rudely stomped away. We were all shocked that she had such a issue with making the accommodation for our party. She returned with the split checks and we concluded our Duffy's experience. The only thing that saved our evening was the pleasant hostess who told us a few historic facts about the restaurant and wished us a nice evening. I think sticking to drinks and appetizers may be a safer bet for our next visit...and we will obviously avoid the terrible server we encountered.

Walking into Duffy's is like walking back into the 1800's. This place has great character and really good food as well. The town of Boalsburg is great as well and Duffys is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat. The only thing that kept me from giving Duffys 5 stars is the $ of beer is just a tad high.....other than that Duffys is great!

Certainly historic and in a beautiful setting. Can't complain about the quality of the food and it was very busy at lunch time on a Saturday afternoon. I got soup and salad, which was a seafood bisque and a small salad with raspberry vinaigrette. Well done. There was just something about the atmosphere and the service that left me cold. Maybe it was the poor up-keep of certain areas of the tavern--like big holes in the floor boarding that sort of looked dangerous to me. And the mishmash of furniture and furnishings. I love history, but it just felt like they were trying to cash in on the historic past without really keeping the place up to snuff. A bit pricey too. From the looks of the clientele, no one was local. Also, there weren't many choices to eat elsewhere. Boalsburg is a pretty small berg.

My client (T.P.) took me out for dinner at this place. It's a nice historical Tavern with outdoor settings. There are 3 parts in the Tavern, casual dining with paper napkin, fancy dining with real napkin, and a bar. We were setting near the window, nice view outside as the weather is good. The service is so so. T.P. ordered a fried zucchini for starter. Large fries size zucchini strings covered with beer batter were fried to golden brown, served with radish source. I was saying "this is how you make something health, not health" I ordered Pork with Orange Sauce and T.P. ordered the Crab Cake dinner. The plate came out little cold as the one waitress was busy running around with 6 tables of people. T.P.'s crab cake looks funny, it has a hard shell (like a crab :). My pork with orange sauce is okay, the orange sauce is bit plain, not enough citrus flavor. The 2 sides, rice and vegi are really small portion too. As we are leaving, I notice lots of students from Penn State were have group dinner over there too.

I am a fan of the food and prices at Duffy's. Their sandwiches and burgers, and salads are under $10, with entrees ranging from $10-$20. Their burgers are some of the best I have ever had, and on Mondays they are half price. They used to have 99 cent Yingling draft, but the price has risen. I have had good sandwiches, entrees and desserts at Duffy's. I have yet to be disappointed.
