Trapala Restaurant Menu

We were in Woodburn on errands and decided to try this place for lunch based on the good reviews. Well, I guess I have to say I wasn't blown over - probably we just ordered the wrong thing... we both had the carnitas, and being gringos we didn't get it the we are used to. Rather than shredded pork, it was very large hunks of meat with lots of fat still on them. Once we pulled off the fat and smushed up the meat it was pretty much the expected carnitas (although the meat didn't have a lot of seasoning to add flavor). And to be fair, it was a very big amount of food for the price (we ended up having leftovers for dinner too), and there were nice sauces and hot roasted peppers on the side. The service was decently fast. The place itself is unassuming to look at which is just fine, not a lot of overblown mexi-decor like you see elsewhere, but not run down either. I am pretty sure if I come back and try something else from the big menu, I would end up happier.

Went again only to be surprised at the new menu with more options! We so love this restaurant. The food never disappoints. The service was perfect as usual!

TRAPALA's is always stepping up their game with fresh ideas! For us low carb eaters they are willing to leave out the tortillas, and just make a plate with meats, veggies, fresh tomatoes, guacamole, cheese and salsa! Keeps me coming back!

I was in Woodburn at the outlets craving Mexican food. I came to this place because of the reviews. I'm not going to bash this place but the food was not good. I wanted a chile relleno but was told there not ready for 30 more minutes. The red sauce on the enchiladas was bad, it put the whole lunch off. The only thing I can say service was great and same with the salsa. I would say try it for that reason it might be good for you. It might be because I grew up with good Mexican food is the reason I didn't like it.

Great food. Great service. We had the best time here and our food was all home made, hot and authentic. The menu is extensive. We will be back to sample more of the great items. Dress is casual. Drinks were tasty and not watered down. I am not sure how they could improve. Best chicken fajita I have ever eaten. Yummy. The waitress was helpful with suggested favorites. Just an all around great evening.

Great food and excellent service. My family really enjoyed! From the fajita burrito, to the chimichangas, chile rellano and rice and beans....mucho gusto!

The service is amazing and everyone is so sweet. We came for lunch and had the pick two (tamale and enchiladas) which were amazing! The drinks are very tasty as well!!

Fantastic lunch spot. Authentic and creative. Food was seasoned well and tasty. Burritos were BIG and fish tacos filling. Drinks were pretty strong and the piña colada was served in a hollowed out pineapple with the fruit served as garnish on the side. Yum! Staff was also super nice. We'll be back!!

This past Sunday I led a group of fellow Oktoberfesters there based on high Yelp rating, and the place exceeded my expectations. Quick service; friendly, helpful (but not obsequious--HATE obsequious) server; shaded patio seating; extensive breakfast AND lunch menu offered. At very turn we were treated like special guests. We were served excellent versions of standard Mexican dishes (chile relleno, huevos rancheros, eggs with chorizo) plus out-of-the-ordinary dishes like "parillada" (grilled meats and veggies, with various sauses). House-made tortillas (the corn were incredible!), salsas, chips. And all with a flourish of fancy presentation. A wonderful way to wash away our Germanic hangovers. Thank you, Trapala. And thank you too, Yelp.

The best traditional Mexican food ever! It's one of those hole in the wall gems...we got the house special of mixed grilled meat, enough for 3-4 people. It side-by-side had 2 pieces of cactus! Yum...

Another great Mexican restaurant in Woodburn. An excellent menu with a few distinct dishes to separate it from the many other restaurants in town. The service was excellent, the dishes during a Saturday lunch came promptly and the staff was knowledgable about the food. One advantage this has over Luis's Taqueria (which seems to be the most popular restaurant in town) is a much nicer atmosphere. It's a step up from the casual seating at Luis's.

YUM! Live in a neighboring town and wanted to try something different. Sat outside on a nice summer night. Service was prompt and sincere. Can't beat the $2.50 bottle beer! Hubby got a widmer IPA and I got a margarita. Margarita was big and pretty good. Hubby had the carnitas, oh my goodness, almost made me wish I ordered it! I got the chicken mole, it was super rich and yummy! It's a toss up on what I will order next time. As we were leaving, we saw the nachos go to another table, they looks really good! The portions are hearty, we both had leftovers for lunch the next day. Side note...Salsa that came out with the chips was good, especially the hot green salsa! Service was wonderful. It was genuine and sincere. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food and great service. Will definitely visit this place again!

Great little sit down place for family friendly authentic Mexican food. It's an alternative to the taqueria, and they really have some great eats. They have an awesome menu, and really wonderful service. My husband had a sampler platter and loved everything, but especially the chorizo. My favorite part of the night was the giant pina colada smoothie I got...served in an entire pineapple! Went wonderfully with my chile colorado!

  • Joseph O.

Oh my god. A particularly wonderful night of Mexican culinary delights. We shared a sizzling platter of various meats (pollo, carne asada, y chorizo) with fresh corn tortillas. Delicious! Even the clam chowder (not something you think of in a Mexican restaurant!) was excellent. Definitely coming back here.

  • Jaime C.

This place is outstanding! The food variety is more than we find in most Mexican restaurants. The quality was absolutely fantastic. Our waiter, who is a member of the family that owns the restaurant, suggested I try something very different from what I've had before (el molcajete con salsa roja), and it was excellent! Sra. Chupacabra had the camarones marinated in tequila, and they were dope. After a tough day of shopping at the outlet mall, this is just the place to come for a fantastic meal before heading back to Portland! Totally worth the trip!

    (5)
  • Aaron L.

I don't particular like Mexican food and will not seek out Mexican food in general. We were late after shopping in the outlet so need to find a place that close at 9pm or after. Yelp saved the date. This place food portion was generous and service was better than expected. Food quality was not bad either!

Visiting family in Seattle from San Diego and after a journey to the outlets wanted a place to sit and recoupe from the drive and the tax-free shopping. Saw the reviews and decided to try it out... VERY GOOD!!! The portions! The flavors! The quick service! All top notch! Had a mix between chile verde, enchiladas, carnitas, and a few kids items as well. The meat was very flavorful and was so tender it melted on the fresh corn tortillas. Frijoles de la olla can do for a little onion and peppers just for flavor but it was all still delish! Great hidden gem with service that was so prompt and courteous! Word to the wise: either share or prepare for a second meal! Luckily went for late lunch so now we know whats for dinner!

  • Catilin O.

Handmade tortillas. Incredible huge servings. I had the Chili Relleno dinner plate and it came out on three plates! I wish the sauce was spicier but it was still wonderful. Homemade refried beans too!!!

Sooooo yummy! I was very impressed with this food. I went after work one day on the way to a meeting, not expecting anything great. Boy was I surprised!! The waitresses are SO sweet. The food is AMAZING. I haven't been able to find good Mexican food since moving up from California. Finally I found some! Will be back, whenever I'm in town.

In fairness, I grew up in a predominantly Mexican part of Los Angeles, and was spoiled being surrounded by great food (at homes, restaurants, taco trucks, etc.)...due to the large hispanic population in Woodburn, was hoping for that - a task nearly impossible to replicate in Oregon, perhaps... Mexican food = comfort food for me (and my wife); though the service was fine (as noted by prior postings), the food was decent (my chile relleno was the highlight), we couldn't get past the watered-down salsa we received. Trapala was serviceable, but we probably won't be back.

  • Lauren G.

DAAAAAAANG. My family and I want to Trapala today and honest weren't expecting the food and service that we got. What a surprise though!! The food was FANTASTIC. It was flavorful and not greasy (which I find a lot of Mexican restaurants are). The food was presented nicely, even. They obviously take pride in what they do. The service was out of this world. They were kind, and quick and helpful and simply wonderful. Our family meets in Woodburn often as it is equidistant for us all. It is now our meeting place.

After reading all the amazing reviews, I was very excited to eat here. I must say, I was disappointed. I ordered a taco salad that was just "okay". The menu listed five basic ingredients, but it actually came with a large amount of grilled vegetables (similar to the ingredients listed under the vegetarian taco salad- not sure if it was a mistake or a typo on the menu). Although the veggies were not bad, it just was not what I expected and atypical for a taco salad. There was also very little lettuce. No beers on tap, but several bottled beers and a full bar. The service was very good, though. Friendly and efficient. Outdoor seating was nice and they moved an umbrella over are table.

  • Paul D.

Is this really the best Mexican food Woodburn has to offer? It is positively mediocre. The first thing you notice upon entering is the huge Oregon Lottery sign. I'm always suspicious of food establishments that feel the need to boost their business by attracting desperate gamblers. The food is fine -- nothing special, nothing bad. The chips were a bit stale and I've had better salsa. Would not rush to go back.

  • Richard E.

We went here on a Friday night and was not disappointed at all. The food and service we're outstanding!! This place is a very highly recommended and we will be coming back. The salsa and chips are awesome we tried cactus for the first time well I don't like it but I loved the rest of the meal!!!!

Great service. Presentation was spot on. Burrito was huuge and tasty. Rice/beans were on point. Would definitely go again. My whole table loved their food as well!

My wife and I went here last weekend because we were down in Woodburn and heard some raves about Trapala. I was a little worried when I saw the prices, which seemed a little high compared to the other Mexican place I had eaten at in Woodburn. Be known that this is more of a traditional sit down restaurant than a taqueria so you spend a little more. I ended up ordering the three taco plate and a pollo asado burrito (to go, mind you, since we had all the kids with us). The first thing I noticed was how great the service was - not in your face but there always seemed to be someone coming just at the right time to attend to a customer. They even gave me a Pepsi to drink while I waited! The three taco plate is worth the money. Three handmade tortillas with a healthy amount of carne asada, pollo asado and carnitas, respectively. Mixed with the meat were cebollitas and grilled jalepenos. The salsas they gave us (red and green) were amazingly flavored and (finally) as hot as you'd get them in Mexico. If they set up a food cart with their tacos in Portland they'd be a hit and I'd be going every day.

  • Jeff B.

Let's start with the service; everyone was attentive without being pushy, and they made our entire party feel welcome - like you went to your moms house for dinner. We ordered the enchiladas, the carne asada, and the baby back ribs. The portions were good size, and everything was excellent! The ingredients are obviously fresh, and prepared right when you order. The owner, Nevero, spent time explaining all of the dishes, and checked in on us constantly. Bring your appetite, and make sure to order some of their specialty drinks from the bar.

We all left happy. The food was very very good and the margaritas were yummy. our server even took it up a notch and brought us all shots while we waited for food. The guy is obviously very good at his job. The entire staff was so incredibly welcoming and we were never without water, chips, or salsa. They were prompt friendly and warm. I will make this place a regular stop whenever I'm near Woodburn.

I went today for lunch based on the great reviews. I ordered the Chili Verde Burrito. When it arrived it was MASSIVE and served on a platter-no exaggeration. Unfortunately, I missed the description on the menu of it being filled with rice and beans. Also unfortunate for me, I don't love rice and beans. I only had 8 small bites of pork. Left a huge mound of rice and beans on my plate and walked out hungry. Really disappointing.

Thanks for putting up with our group. Great authentic Mexican food that deserved all the good reviews it has received. Get the Piña Colada !!! And the chimichangas.

Our club had an outing and we brought them here for lunch. We had 25 picky old eaters but everyone was pleased:-) They graciously set up the outside patio area for us. Service and food was outstanding and they were very gracious and likable hosts. Saw some dishes being served that I had never seen before so very unique experience. This was my second meal in two weeks there as I had scouted out Trapala's the week before to make sure the food was good.

Superb food, the real Mexcan you rarely get. I had the Trapala tequila flamed canaries and the sauce was just amazing! I had to buy it to bring home for baking enchiladas in. Very happy we followed Yelp and stopped in.... Magnifico

We have always gone to Lus while in Woodburn, but the lines were long there so we decided to try Trapala. It's definitely a step up in quality and comfort--the lamb barbacoa I had was delicious. The waitress moreover was friendly and attentive.

Clearly family owned. They are lovely and welcoming. Nothing is too heavy and the mochelada is outstanding. I am from Southern California, and we are pretty picky with our Mexican food. TO be honest when the honey said let's get Mexican in OR I almost left him over at the outlet mall. We were starving and over ordered a tad but everything was so good. The queso fundido was fresh cheese and not some packaged mix. The place was packed but we were served promptly and the family-owned vibe came through really well, but not in an amateur or campy. way.

We were here with friends last month. The food and service was wonderful and very authentic. I like Chile relanos and they have the best I have had. We live several miles from here but make excuses to make the drive so we can enjoy the food.

Trapala is an excellent "sit down" alternative to the already established taqueria around the corner. Service was absolutely top-notch. Our server communicated all of the options expertly, and made sure we were happy with our choices and well taken care of. The food was also outstanding, with fresh ingredients obviously used in preparation. The plates were arranged with interesting presentations, with flavors that matched the aesthetic styling. The beans and rice both had a homemade flavor, and the use of queso fresco instead of cheddar cheese was refreshing. I would have liked to see cabbage used instead of lettuce, but I really can't find anything else to fault them on. My 12-y.o. son had the Flauta Platter, and thought it was delicious -- he would definitely order it again. My wife went with the Street Taco Plate, which included three tacos; one carne asada, one carnitas, and one pollo. She really liked the homemade tortillas and the flavors of the meats, but couldn't pick a winner -- she thought they were all good. I went with the Carne Asada plate, which was excellent. The homemade corn torillas were soft yet light, and the beef was perfectly flavored. I really enjoyed the addition of the roasted jalapenos and cactus. My taste buds were definitely dancing from all the wonderful, authentic Mexican flavors. For me, no truly authentic Mexican dining experience is complete without a glass of some sort of agua -- whether it's pepino, mango, pina, or arroz (horchata). In this case, Trapala had horchata available, so I went with that -- the flavor was perfect, yet it wasn't so syrupy that it filled me up -- it was a nice accompaniment. Many things on the menu looked good, so we will definitely need to come back soon to give it another try.

Fortunately I read a lot of good reviews from this restaurant, unfortunately it wasn't a good experience with their food. Service was awesome and definitely good. Had a birthday for a friend and this was recommended since it was in the area. A few of us chose out the carne asada burritos which you can never go wrong with......How they came out was just awful. The meat looked like it was leftover from days ago, rice was good but beans tasted like canned ones. The fact they didn't even warm up or grill the tortilla made it difficult to eat. It was about a 10 inch burrito that was folded over like a taco and stacked with nothing but lettuce and tomato and a dash of avocado and sour cream. I won't recommend this place to anyone for burritos, I'm sure they have better things on the menu but they definitely lost my interest after this. Good service, awful experience with food.

Really friendly staff. It's a modest restaurant but the food is impeccable! They serve cactus, which I like, but it's not for everyone. Their meat is prepared like no one's business here in Woodburn. They also have corona margaritas that are pretty tasty!

My sweet wife surprised me with anniversary breakfast here on the way to other festivities and adventures. This is a comparatively new restaurant in Woodburn. Wonderful breakfast of 3 tamales (pork and chicken) with green chili salsa. My wife had two tamales with a side of scrambled eggs. Rice and refried beans were well done and authentic. You want to come here...no, you need to come here. Atmosphere was quiet because ...hey, it was early morning on Veterans' Day. Our server co-owns the restaurant with her husband, so the place had a warm, friendly feel. Bottom line: a breakfast that made us happy...what's not to like?

Stopped in for breakfast 5 days after opening. Excellent and authentic breakfast with all fresh ingredients. No canned items in the kitchen. Friendly and informative owners. Great service. Will be back for more.

The best Mexican food in Woodburn or anywhere in the area. With a town full of Mexican restaurants it's hard to shine above the rest but they have here at Trapala. The food is amazingly fresh and light compared to many Mexican restaurants that just cover every plate with melted cheese. Great value for the amount of food you get. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.

OMG ... The FOOD is The Best .. The Service is The Best ... We had the Most wonderful dinner and time . Very Friendly (family owned, which I also Love about it, as I own my own business) ... I will continue to go and bring More friends each time ... Many thanks to the Trapala family ......

Great food! Authentic!! And for a great price!!! Staff was really friendly and the food was great. If your looking for great Mexican food this is the place to be. Finding anything short of Taco Bell comes a dumb a dozen within the Oregon area, but an authentic Mexican dish, is a diamond in the dirt, and this place is a gem

I never stop in Woodburn for food but when I do I stop at Trapala. This place is the real deal from top to bottom. The staff, the ambiance, and the food by are by far the best in woodburn. If you're in Woodburn and hungry for Mexican food you be a fool to pass up Trapala! (And from what I hear, the margaritas are super strong) :-)

This was a great local Mexican restaurant Chips and salsa were good We had the grilled meat sampler and everything was really tasty And flavorful The service was really good and everyone was very nice We will definitely go back again To give you a lot to eat and for under $30 we are taking home leftovers! Can't go wrong for that price:)

We came here because it was the only place in this town that had good ratings. It's location is weird since it's right next to a taqueria. Which had more people eating there than this restaurant. We found it pretty pricey. I did not like my food at all, it was lacking flavor. Not even the horchata or the chips & salsa hit that flavor spot. My hub (he's Mexican) liked the menudo & said it is authentic Mexican food just very bland. The service was great though. They were very attentive & friendly. I do wish this town had more food options.

Found the BEST Mexican food restaurant around for miles! Everything was the best. ..the queso is one of the best we ever had, Fajitas were incredible, they actually give you a big helping of vegetables and NOT just onions like many other places. .the service was top notch! For woodburn being a major Latino area, it doesn't have very great Mexican restaurants. But this place is pretty damn awesome. Friendly and fast service, delicious and authentic Mexican food, and good prices. The location isn't great, but like many good places don't let it throw you off.

It was genuine and sincere. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food and great service. Will definitely visit this place again!

We were here with friends last month. The food and service was wonderful and very authentic. I like Chile relanos and they have the best I have had. We live several miles from here but make excuses to make the drive so we can enjoy the food.

The food is very very delicious, Is authentic Mexican food. The barbacoa is the best. Amigos el Restaurant está de primera, muy buena atención y sobre todo muy atentos.

We went here on a Friday night and was not disappointed at all. The food and service we're outstanding!! This place is a very highly recommended and we will be coming back. The salsa and chips are awesome we tried cactus for the first time well I don't like it but I loved the rest of the meal!!!!

The best Mexican food in Woodburn or anywhere in the area. With a town full of Mexican restaurants it's hard to shine above the rest but they have here at Trapala. The food is amazingly fresh and light compared to many Mexican restaurants that just cover every plate with melted cheese. Great value for the amount of food you get. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.

OMG ... The FOOD is The Best .. The Service is The Best ... The choices will astound you ...I went here for the first time last Friday night with some friends, and LOVED it ... so, today I had a friend over, and told him about the Great food, and we decided to go there.

For woodburn being a major Latino area, it doesn't have very great Mexican restaurants. But this place is pretty damn awesome. Friendly and fast service, delicious and authentic Mexican food, and good prices. The location isn't great, but like many good places don't let it throw you off.

Trapala is a solid 4 stars. Four of us went here for lunch and all were very satisfied with our meals. We had a good variety, beef enchiladas, combo fajitas, and I had the veggie tostada and added the Camarone's al la Diablo to the tostada. Great flavor and spice. We also shared the Special Nacho's. They were very flavorable and not weighed down with excessive cheese like so many restaurants do. Not that there is anything wrong with cheese... They just were not overloaded. Server was very nice and helpful. When asked questions, she had the answer. Their menu is loaded with a variety of everything. Thanks Trapala Restaurant, we will difinitely be back.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is a solid spot in Woodburn. I don't get to the town of Woodburn frequently, however, I was down there checking out the tulips and thought I would stop into this small town favorite. The place is small but not too small and family owned. The staff is friendly and will definitely cater to your every need. We asked for margaritas without that terrible mixer that most bars use. They made us up some from scratch margaritas that were beyond belief. The food its top notch and usually always enough for the following days lunch. A lot of times a friend and I will split the fajitas and still have a little left over. You know after the chips and salsa and that whole thing who can complete a meal. All in all my one stop in this town. Check it out if you down that way.

If you turn to salsa throughout the day as a path to nirvana, add a star. This place has some of the best salsa that I've had. I bought container of the sassy verde salsa to take home. The chips were fresh and hot. My fish tacos were exactly the way I dream of them--quickly fried without the flour coating. The handmade tortillas were fresh and delicious, but served cold, a startlement to an otherwise great taco. The rice and beans were fine. The red salsa that accompanied the fish tacos had heat and rich flavor. Winning! My son prefers the bean burrito at our neighborhood restaurant, Nuevo Vallerta. He couldn't describe the difference, aside from claiming these refries aren't as flavorful. It might be a texture difference, too. These refried had whole beans as well as mashed beans. I liked this less salty version over Nuevo's. The service was great--friendly, attentive and generous. When our waiter discovered she hadn't brought my son his mandarin Jaritto, she insisted that he take a bottle to go--on the house. We'll definitely be back.

Fantastic lunch spot. Authentic and creative. Food was seasoned well and tasty. Burritos were BIG and fish tacos filling.

The place was packed but we were served promptly and the family-owned vibe came through really well, but not in an amateur or campy. way.

Great food and excellent service. My family really enjoyed! From the fajita burrito, to the chimichangas, chile rellano and rice and beans....mucho gusto!

I don't particular like Mexican food and will not seek out Mexican food in general. We were late after shopping in the outlet so need to find a place that close at 9pm or after. Yelp saved the date. This place food portion was generous and service was better than expected. Food quality was not bad either!

  • April D.

Really friendly staff. It's a modest restaurant but the food is impeccable! They serve cactus, which I like, but it's not for everyone. Their meat is prepared like no one's business here in Woodburn. They also have corona margaritas that are pretty tasty!

The best Mexican food in Woodburn or anywhere in the area. With a town full of Mexican restaurants it's hard to shine above the rest but they have here at Trapala. The food is amazingly fresh and light compared to many Mexican restaurants that just cover every plate with melted cheese. Great value for the amount of food you get. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.

Great food!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
