There must be a million little diners just like Ichabod's all across this land of ours. If there's anything in a name, every time I've dined @ Ichabod's over the years, I have subconsciously (maybe not so subconsciously) expected---no, FERVENTLY hoped is a better word-- that our server would have a prominent Adam's Apple. So far, that has just never happened. Damn! The problem is, Yelp has made the likelihood of my dining at place's like Ichabod's far less likely and less frequent. Ichabod's is not terrible, but then they ain't great shakes, neither, baby. Why go back over and over to middle of the road, when there's so many other places yet to check out? Reviewing the menu for Ichabod's would not be very entertaining, and I'm afraid, even less so, for you to read. There's breakfast pretty near any time you want; there's Burgers, fries, soups salads, entree specials like Chicken cacciatore or the occasional prime rib, etc etc. Lukewarm reviews are in many respects the most difficult for me to write, so tell you what, if anyone out there notices any new wait-staff that are obviously blessed in the Adam's Apple department, please notify me at once. THAT would be well worth a return visit to this fine little beacon shining out of the provincial burg of Scappoose....and I promise to set to the task of writing up a review worthy of the event, at once...

Had dinner here for the first time. It was not great. The onion rings were good, otherwise everything else was not. Maybe their breakfast is better??

Service is generally good and the portions are a good size. The food is pretty good too. I suggest getting the Mexican omlette.

This is a long time establishment in this community. Many of the locals come here to visit with friends over breakfast and a cup of coffee. That is very nice. I have visited several times. I generally go in for breakfast. They open early which makes it nice to drop in before the Church crowd on a Sunday. For the most part they make a pretty good biscuit and gravy. Only once I had it and it seemed the cook forgot something. It tasted starchy with no flavor. But that was only once in 6 years. I really appreciate that I can ask for an egg over medium well and the cook will give me what I ordered. Not over medium, not over hard but over medium well. A good line cook knows the difference. I know this because I was a waitress then supervisor and then a manger for many years. I know it is hard to mess up a breakfast but other establishments have done it and don't know the difference. My peppered bacon is always done correctly. Not too soft and not burnt. I would give them more stars if anything stood out but not really outstanding. This is not a fine dining epicurious gourmet delight of a place. It is basically a Grandma's house for breakfast kind of place.

Friendly, fast and comfortable. Decorations are interesting but not matching to each other or the holiday. Food does not have seasonings added but they will kindly make your food how you request it. We had a group of 16 people and there were no mistakes or complaints. Great job Ichabod's.

We come to visit at least four or five times a year. It is a 35 minute drive for us, but the scenery from Portland to Scappoose is nice and the service and food once we arrive makes the whole deal worth it a few times over. There are not many places within reach that give you the small town feel. Everyone from newborns to great grand parents gather here to eat. We have only ever been for weekend breakfast and highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, the chicken fried steak and eggs and the eggs benedict. The coffee is also nice - diner style and to top it all off the staff are friendly, courteous and attentive. It has been eight years that we have made this pilgrimage and we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

I like breakfast. I especially like CANNED hash. So I asked our bubbly server if by any chance they serve hash from a can... To my delight she said yes! She also told me that they add fried onions to it to take it up a notch - Boy Howdy! It was awesome. I also had the hash browns with onions too! Booyah! Perfectly crispy fried h'browns that paired deliciously with my sunnyside egg yolk! They also serve English muffins... The totally forgotten bread option. Some folks said the food was bland, I did not have that issue. Just wanted to point out that not everyone wants to coat their food with salt- so I appreciated the fact that it wasn't overly salted or seasoned. It's also why there are shakers on the table FYI. I will totally eat here again, as I really wanted the biscuits and gravy. Til next time!

2 words - Pepper Bacon Biscuits & Gravy with eggs and pepper bacon was the special! Pancakes fluffy, hearty portions, fast friendly service but 3 stars because instead of real butter, "whipped spread" made of water and partially hydrogenated oil was provided for the pancakes. The Johnny's season salt on the table has MSG in it. (Easy enough, don't use it) Get the eggs, biscuits & gravy and the PEPPER BACON

I don't know what happened to this place. Was going to get eggs Benedict which I get with tomato and avocado, but they don't carry avocado the server said, but have guacamole. No thanks! Decided to have the French dip, which was all cheese and vey little meat. Bland tasting! My husband got the triple decker Rueben and it was a sad sandwich. 2 thin slices of pastrami and it also had cheddar cheese on it. Honestly it was absolutely disgusting. This is really sad since we are out of American food restaurants here. I give two stars because for the most part the servers are great and friendly! Don't know if we'll be back!

So disappointing. It has been a while since we have eaten here and we probably won't be back. The only thing the full tables and parking lot tell me is that people in this area don't know this isn't good food. Pretty sad. Ichabods used to have pretty good standard fare. Nothing spectacular but good solid food. Today's are was bland, pretty sure all of it except the eggs (maybe) came from a can or was frozen. Jim ordered the corned beef hash with over easy eggs with dark rye toast, a side of pepper bacon and hash browns. I have never ever eaten corned beef hash with no flavor but now I can say I have. Obviously out of a can and not even a good quality can at that. Zero flavor. The eggs were over medium, the hashbrowns had no seasoning at all and maybe a pepper corn was passed over the bacon but it was over cooked and bland as well. How is it possible to make bacon bland? Don't know, but they managed it quite well. I ordered the German Omelette - sausage, swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Sausage was the frozen crumbly kind pizza places use and was tasteless. I was expecting a German style sausage. The Sauerkraut was also bland and obviously from a can. The omelet was just bland all the way around. No seasoning in the eggs either. The hash browns were slightly undercooked and in a puddle of grease. The biscuits - oh the biscuits..under cooked and obviously started life as a frozen disc. And the coffee..again a sad imitation of coffee. We live in one of the richest coffee roasting places on the planet and yet restaurants in the area will buy the cheapest crap at the local grocery outlet. Man up and buy some decent coffee. And they now serve whipped margarine in place of butter. yuck. The prices have gone up, the quality has taken a nose dive BUT they do have all new staff who all had great attitudes and actually hustled. Refreshing from the tired, loud, slow wait staff they had before. Refills on coffee where constant which is nice. Apparently the owner died sometime in the last year and it is under some kind of new ownership or maybe family took it over. They need to ramp up the quality. Fresh ingredients for sure and in this area there is no reason not to use seasonal fresh ingredients. Make their own biscuits and hash browns. Get rid of the frozen and canned goop. And for the love of all that is holy season the food while you are cooking it. Salt is your friend. We normally go into Portland for breakfast out or even to Rainier which has a lovely breakfast place. We decided to hit Ichabods since we had things to do today. At $24.95 plus tip, it was a wrong decision. We can get a tastier breakfast with great coffee for less than that in Portland. St. Helens and Scappoose need a decent great breakfast place. Ichabods isn't it anymore, sad to say

Scappoose may be 20 miles from Portland on the map, but it seems like the other side of the world. A foodie paradise it is not. That being said Ichabod's is a-ok. It's a typical country diner, with friendly service and food that is about what you would expect. The food is nothing special, but the important thing is, they are nice and they deliver just what they promise.

Love the food, love the service, love the atmosphere. We had breakfast here on Saturday, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast. My hubby had the pancakes, and he loved them. I had the overeasy eggs (cooked to perfection with the whites done but the yolk still runny but not raw), the hashbrowns tasted fresh and homemade, not like they'd been frozen for months. The bacon was thick, not that super cheap kind, and for me, they even had gluten free toast (a rarity in most restaurants). For once, I got to have toast with breakfast. It was good gluten free toast too. This place even has souvenirs, such as Halloween earrings, little hanging towels that are handmade, little hobo clocks, and there were Halloween decorations galore. Any restaurant that also has souvenirs is my kind of restaurant. Not to mention that the waitress was super sweet too. What more could customers ask for! Thank you for making our sad event, the Celebration of Life for our dear friend Donna Kadow, a longtime Scappoose resident, a bit easier that day.

This evening my daughter, Ella and I went here for dinner. The staff is nice enough and the atmosphere is very laid back. The food is typical greasy spoon American style faire. I ordered chicken strips and mashed potatoes. I found the food to be a bit bland but once I added salt and pepper it tasted better. Ella really enjoyed her grilled cheese and curly fries off the kids menu; to our delight, Monday was kids eat free day! All and all Ichabod's is a nice local restaurant with fun decor and decent food for an affordable price.

Visiting family and needed a place for breakfast. Took my brother-in-law's suggestion and headed in to this place. Hands down going to go back. It's down home feel, good eats, and friendly locals.

Been going here since I was a kid. The food has always just been Ok... Nothing special or unique about the food, it's just average. I used to always get the crispy chicken salad but in recent years it's gotten smaller & gone up in price (wtf) but I do always go here if I'm in the mood for eggs Benedict. While theirs isn't the best I've ever had, it's passable & I like that they always will substitute hash browns for fries instead

People told me that folks come here for the atmosphere and whenever people say that about anyplace, it means the food is shit. Well, the atmosphere of Ichabod's is good but the food is always going to be still pretty bad. No flavour, no substance, and really nothing sticks out as anything singularly good. On the flip side, good atmosphere. I don't go to breakfast restaurants to read a newspaper and socialize, I go there to stuff my face with good food. However, if I did go to read a newspaper and socialize, I'd go here...but I wouldn't order anything unless I was truly curious. At the moment though, I'm more curious about eating something like pressed cold pig ear than anything on the menu here. Pig ear is nice when it's fried, but pressed so you're eating a couple strips of pig ears with each slice has delightful possibilities. If only Fergus Henderson had a restaurant in Scappoose...

Run-of-the-mill breakfast food. Been here a few times for breakfast and dinner. Nothing special. Won't be back. Favorite part about the place are the awesome pet portraits.

For me the food lacked any luster it was pretty bland and run of the mill I felt as if the restaurant is more leaning towards people who need soft food my vegetables tasted like they came from a can and my steak looked as if someone beat it with a hammer the freshest thing on my plate was my potato There milkshakes on the other hand are amazing and made my dinner a more pleasant experience I'm not in a huge hurry to return
