We've stayed in a number of B&Bs around the country and this is by far the nicest. A lovely house that made you feel like you were coming home. The owner, Marijo, goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and make your stay enjoyable. Little did we know there was a long standing Thursday evening event where neighbors come over to share wine and snacks. What fun meeting many of the people in the area. Guests are encouraged to join the fun. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Come hungry to breakfast as she puts on a sumptuous spread. If you are a bacon fan her oven baked maple bacon is terrific. If you have any dietary issues she will work to be sure your needs are met. The meal is informal and it is a great time to meet the other guests and share stories and travel experiences.

This may be the best place in Pendleton but hardly five stars. OK, the best thing about this old building is character. It really is old, unique and one of a kind. If you like history museums, old buildings, and personal service, this may be right for you. On the other hand I kind of missed having my own bathroom and all that that provides. The property is showing some of its age.

We stayed 3 nights for a Tandem bicycle rally. There were 4 other couples also staying there for the same thing. It was great, the house was amazing. Lots of history & great architecture. MaryJo was great. As she says "her guests check in as strangers & check out as friends. We even invited her to stop by & visit us the next time she went thru our town. The food was great, she was very accommodating to our special diet needs. And we really enjoyed sitting around the large table eating & visiting with the other guests. Possibly the BEST place to stay in Pendleton... Unless you are the anti-social, wanting the latest high tech modern luxuries type.

If there were six stars we'd give them! We stayed for three nights in November 2014 while visiting family in Pendleton. Pendleton House exceeded our expectations in every way (FYI, our tastes tend toward places with character and history, with a bit of luxury - think Ace Hotel's properties, etc.). I believe Pendleton House is the nicest bed and breakfast experience I have ever had. Here are the reasons: -The house. Epically beautiful. Built with no expense spared around 1915 by the town's canned pea baron. Literally no expense spared. Gorgeous woods, handmade parget ceilings, balconies, large windows, Otis elevator with brass cage, silk draperies and wallpaper. And the most amazing thing, it's all original and well functioning, down to the bathroom fixtures, switch plates, draperies. I do not know that I had ever stayed in a house with so many original elements intact and functioning. Interacting with these brilliant pieces of near 100 year old technology was like stepping back in time and was a joy. While the bulk of the furniture is not original to the house, the current owners have set a perfect and tasteful tone with what is there. Every piece I saw in the house is quality-made, real, and period-appropriate. Do note that some of the rooms do not have their own bathrooms; this did not diminish the experience for us at all (comfortable robes were provided for trips to the amazing bathroom down the hall) if anything it made our experience of the house better as its original layout is preserved. The house was cozy and kept at a pleasant temperature throughout. Linens, mattresses, towels, robes and such were all high quality and pleasant to use. The house is kept very, very clean throughout. WiFi was fast and easy to connect to with good coverage throughout the house. -The Location. It sits about 2 blocks from Pendleton's main street with excellent views of the quaint town center. The location puts it a short walk from Pendleton's restaurants, shopping, and a local microbrewery. It sits in what is perhaps Pendleton's nicest neighborhood. Two blocks away there is a pleasant park (with an elaborate childrens' play structure), and an excellent coffee roaster / bakery / cafe ("Buckin' Bean") looking out over the park. One block away is the Umatilla River (bordered by a walking path). -The Breakfasts. Our three breakfasts were delicious and varied. Expertly prepared and timely. Truly enjoyable and served in the beautiful main dining room of the house. -The Owners. Wow. Wonderful people, truly at ease in their role as hosts. They were a joy to talk with and deeply knowledgeable about Pendleton. They dealt so well with the varied needs of our large group (children and dog included). They made us all feel truly at home. Communication via email in our trip planning was thorough and prompt. Also, their dog, Summer (a wonderfully polite and charming herding mix), was great to hang out with. On our last morning in Pendleton the temperatures had dropped overnight into the 20s. Coming down the sunlit curving staircase that morning to see a great fire crackling in the fireplace and the smell of another excellent breakfast being prepared was an experience I will carry with me as a benchmark of B and B perfection. In sum, we started planning our next return to Pendleton House before we had even left. Go to Pendleton House, you will not be disappointed.

There was a time, not too long ago, that weary travelers on the Oregon Trail stopped to ford the Umatilla River mere footsteps from the present location of Pendleton House. I imagine that some of them stopped to rest, but also to admire the location. From the Northern river bank, you can ascend a hill to get sweeping views of the surrounding area. Not surprisingly, Pendleton's 20th century elite families built mansions and spacious homes along these hills. Separated from the downtown by the river, the North Side neighborhood took on a distinctive charm that you can still see if you wander the streets looking for the historical society markers at some of the older structures that are still standing. Pendleton House is one of the architectural gems of the neighborhood: a pink stucco mansion with balconies and enclosed porches outside and original period furnishings (including silk wallpaper from China) on the inside. In winter, a crackling fire greets guests in the living/reading room, and large leather chairs and couches invite you to lounge and linger. Upstairs, the rooms are equally inviting, with large 4-poster beds, antique chests and closets, and a magnificent shared bathroom with high ceilings, natural light, a sitdown tub and standup shower. Breakfasts are sociable and sumptuous, served at an elegant table by Marijo or a member of her family. Conversations are not forced, but flow freely. The travelers are quite varied, and they have good stories to tell. Make that great stories. If you're in Pendleton and staying at a B&B, you probably have an interesting reason for doing so. This ain't Coeur d'Alene, with all those annoying newlywed types. It's not even Walla Walla, for that matter, with the wine drinking crowd and the "my daughter goes to Whitman" proud parents. It's Pendleton, and that means Eastern Oregon, roundup, blankets, and all. It's a cool town, so you shouldn't spend all your time inside the B&B, as appealing as that might indeed sound. There is a great riverside walking/jogging trail that heads East towards the ballfields; you can really get a sense of community by watching 3 softball/baseball/little league games being played at once under the lights on a warm summer's evening. It's also a great place for an easy early morning run, before the breakfast festivities commence. A few blocks to the West, there is a lovely park and a local coffee roaster; on Main Street you'll find Cimmiyotti's for steak or "cowboy sushi" (both are great), or a farmers' market/street fair on Fridays from 4-7 pm. If you head up the hill from the B&B, in about 10 minutes you'll reach the end of the neighborhood, and the views from up here at sunset can be spectacular. Make the B&b your base of operations, to rest and recover from the rigors of 21st century travel. But once you've caught your breath and soaked in the lovely interior surroundings, get out and see the sights. Be adventurous, like the pioneers who passed by this place 175 years ago. You can always come back home to Marijo when you've had your fill.

I've always wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast. I saw this deal for the Pendleton B & B around Christmas time and I thought it would be a great gift for my husband. I love to drive. So I was looking forward to driving and seeing Northeast Oregon. This B&B had all the things I was looking for. I really like the way the website displayed the rooms and it appealed to me greatly. The kicker was they welcomed dogs. :) The town of Pendleton is what I describe as a big-little town. The B & B is near water (river walk is 2 blocks away), a 7 minute drive to a pretty big casino and walking distance to restaurants and bars (if we decided to tie one on) Once I stepped into the house, I knew I made the right choice. We were greeted by one of the caretakers named Tracy and he was so welcoming and friendly. He showed us the place. They were redoing some rooms and they had just a couple of rooms that weren't available. He showed us to our room and it was just what I needed at the time. No TV, big windows and an ol' timey feel. :) The bathroom (which is shared by other guests) is absolutely charming. It had one of those big ass tubs. The long ones you can sink your whole body in. The shower is a stand up shower that had this unusual antique mist apparatus. I think it was an old German type of thingamabob. It's looks sort of trippy but the overhead-rain-shower-head felt heavenly. I loved the whole bathroom's look and feel. Later on in evening, we met the 2 other caretakers. Marijo and Kevin. We got to chatting and drinking some wine. Meeting these 3 was the cherry on the best sundae ever!!! It's great to meet genuine, funny, interesting and caring people. I could tell we were kindred spirits once we started chatting. Marijo is the one who actually lives here and she makes some kick ass breakfast and to die for chocolate truffles. I've always wanted to know what sort of person opens up their home to strangers. Now that I've met Marijo it's easy to see. She is full of spirit and has an open heart for all who enters her life. That's why the house was so inviting to me. These people really made it feel like a home away from home. I am definitely staying here for many years to come. I fell inlove with the town, the eats, and the great people we've came into contact with. I only wish our stay was longer. But I know I will be back. :)

Staying here was like taking a walk back into history. The original silk wall coverings and paper still look amazing for being almost 100 years old. The home itself is so beautiful with its wood work and special ceiling affects. You just have to see it to appreciate this home and it handiwork. The location is very close to all of what Pendleton has to offer downtown. The owner was so nice and friendly and offered several suggestions for us to choose from. I stayed in one of two King rooms and was the first to stay in the newly 'redone" Rose room. The four poster bed and crystal chandelier made me feel like I had gone back in time. I will stay here again and I highly recommend this place to anyone.

This is a beautiful old historic home, very close to downtown Pendleton. We stayed in the Gwendolyn Room, a lovely large room with two walk-in closets and a fireplace. The room, and the entire house, is beautifully decorated in keeping with its age, but quite comfortable. The highlight of our stay was breakfast, when we had a chance to chat with the other guests as well as Tracy, Kevin and Marijo. The food was fabulous (OMG - the maple glazed bacon!) but the conversation was even better- everyone stayed in the dining room long past the end of the meal, just because we were having so much fun.
