Coming to Lakeview for the first time for work. I arrived at the Best Western Motel and asked where the best food in town was. Without hesitation both front desk staff simultaneously said Mario's! So I waited with anticipation for 5 p.m. so I could go there. Upon arrival I was greeting in the most friendly manner by three staff. I asked to sit in the bar area as I was by myself and didn't want to take up a table that could be used by a larger group. Immediately upon seating the bartender was at the table taking my drink order. I was saddened to hear that they didn't have any local microbrews, so I opted for an Alaskan Amber Ale from the tap. Shortly thereafter the wait staff arrived and took my order. My second disappointment came when I was informed that they did not have Prime Rib, even though it was on the menu. I went with my second choice a small filet mignon. Prior to my main course arriving I was graced with a salad. This was my third disappointment as it was clearly a bag salad, however it was topped with a very tasty lemon poppeyseed dressing. When my main course arrived I wasn't expecting much, but I was finally pleased with a part of the meal. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy, tender and melt in your mouth! The rice pilaf side was prepared on site as well and was very tasty with slivers of carrots, onions, and other spices. This was the best rice pilaf I have ever eaten. The staff were very attentive without being arduous. The ambiance of the place was very rustic although the air conditioning was set a little too cold. Price point for Mario's Dinner House was surprisingly moderate, but given the triple disappointment, I would have preferred it to be a little less than it was. All in all this is a good place in a small town with limited dining options. Give it a try, just don't order the prime rib on a Tuesday.

This is the best food I've found in lakeview and affordable for a steakhouse. I ordered a New York steak cooked seared rare with the fat edge trimmed prior to grilling. It came to my table cooked perfectly, the bread roll was baked in house and great, the staff was nice. If you're in lakeview for dinner and want something better than diner food stop here. This is a lakeview 4 star review this wouldn't compare to a 4star rating in a urban area, but you'll be pleased when compared to other places in town

Pulling into Lakeview, there are few choices for a decent meal. The clerk at my hotel suggested Mario's steakhouse, so I gave it a try. It feels like an old town restaurant, which is cool. Lots of old historic photos on the wall when you walk in. I had the place to myself save a couple at the bar. The service was friendly and quick. I was informed there was no prime rib tonight (a similar problem from another reviewer!). If you can't keep it, take it off the menu...they put limes in the water, nice touch. I ordered the rib steak with rice, Caesar salad and a roll. The salad was the best part of the meal. The rice had no flavor whatsoever. The steak (medium rare) was char-grilled and pink on the inside. It was cooked to my liking, but curiously had little taste. I had I ask for steak sauce, which I never do with a good steak. I am a little disappointed in this place based on the previous reviews. I have no doubt in a town like this, there are hundreds of ranchers who can cook a steak better in their own homes.

I have always wanted to go to Mario's and lucky for me,, a friend asked me to go with him last weekend. The service was wonderful and the food was awesome! We had a wonderful time.. This is the best place in Lakeview as far as I'm concerned!

I have to say, I was taken by surprise! In the middle of nowhere, to find a steak of this quality at this price was quite a treat. We ate here the first night in town and it was such a great surprise we came back the next night for more. The first night I had a NY cut and it was tender and cooked nicely. The second night I had a 10oz filet that was absolutely perfect! Medium rare all the way through and tender. I was with 6 other people both nights and there was not an unhappy member either night. In addition the service was great. Attentive without being overbearing. Good thing Marios isn't in my he town or I would be fat!

The customer below did not seem to enjoy this place. Why anyone would order salmon in cattle country is beyond me. It is about 300 miles from Lakeview, OR to the Pacific Ocean. If you go here, order a steak, duh? The steak, especially the filet, is great and reasonably priced. As to the ambiance, hey, it is a small town in the middle of nowhere. What do you expect?

First of all, this place is in the lobby of the new Fremont Inn, most likely the most expensive hotel in town. Which should ensure a nice atmosphere, except that in its previous life the hotel was a convalescent hospital, and despite some nice decorative accents, it still feels and smells like an old folk's home. And our chairs at the table were swivel rolling chairs, which for me makes it hard to take the place seriously as a nice restaurant. They did have once vegetarian option, Vegetable Fromage which was a nice attempt, but it turns out to be vegetables smothered with melted cheese, for $10.95. My "fresh" salmon was definitely colored pink with food coloring, and tasted like it was from the nearby Safeway (smallest Safeway I've ever been to, with the least fresh produce). Altogether, the food is edible, but not worth the money you'll pay, even considering being in the middle of nowhere. If you or a friend has any kind of cooking skills, you'll be able to make the same or better meal for cheaper, at home, without the feeling that someone might have died right where you're sitting.

We are up here from Bullhead City, Arizona and we wanted a nice dinner. We decided to try Marios and we have zero regrets. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with a friendly staff and the food is amazing. I had the Rib steak with the Mushroom cream soup and my husband and son had the Prime Rib with the Mushroom soup. The portion size, taste and quality was amazing. We are all completely satisfied. Thank you for a great meal.

A gem in the Oregon Outback. Ending up in Lakeview on my birthday, I wasn't expecting a top-class meal to celebrate. But when we walked into Mario's my lack of culinary faith in Oregon's other half quickly dissipated. Mario's is a truly classy joint, especially considering its unassuming exterior. Opening the door, we were greeted by locals in cowboy hats-who had also been celebrating a birthday-who assured us we were at the right place. Walking inside, there are lots of great photos of Lakeview's history and a cozy little bar off in the corner. The restaurant has a classic stakehouse atmosphere, and soon after we sat down, another birthday was being celebrated as Mario, the owner, and several service staff came to the table next to us and sang happy birthday to an old man dressed to the nines quietly and diligently enjoying a steak by himself. When they finished, they thanked him for his business and wished him many happy returns. When he got up to leave, he plopped on a cowboy hat and strode out of the room. Such a great image, the man could have been going there for his birthday for his whole life. I wish I could have talked to him, but he never turned around. After he left, another man his age came and sat down by himself at the same "single man" table, but was dressed very casually, reading a voluminous book and with a clearly professorial air. Amazing juxtapostition of two men of similar age occupying the same seat in the evening, but who must have had entirely different live stories. And incredible to see it in Lakeview. Aside from these non food-related observations, I did have a great steak birthday dinner in ranch country. The fliet mignon with Mario's sauce was luscious and rich, the rice and baked potato a satisying complement, the lemonade innovative, and the mud pie accompanied by a "happy birthday" a filling dessert. After eating here for dinner, Jerry's for breakfast the next morning, and stopping by Lakeview Lockers, I know that no visitor to this beautifully situated town should go hungry!

We decided on Marios for dinner on our one night in town based on Yelp reviews and enjoyed our meal. The staff was super friendly and efficient. We came in early, which appears to have been a good idea as the place was nearly full on a Wednesday night by 7 PM. The menu selection isn't extensive, but in addition to a number of beef cuts, there were a few alternatives. The salads were very appealing. DH ordered their filet which comes with no seasoning which is always a good sign of a superior piece of beef. There was a funky smokey taste to the surface of the meat that detracted from the flavor. I was ready for anything but beef yet again, being in that part of the country, and opted for their spicy chicken and vegetables. Spicey and the plural in vegetables were exaggerations from what was served, but it was tasty. I might check out the alternatives next time through, but will keep Mario's in mind.

We just returned from a wonderful dinner at Mario's. The restaurant was not crowded mid week, but we were treated by such a friendly and competent staff. I ordered a glass of wine to start, and it was NOT skimpy! In fact it looked like an 8 oz pour! We ended up splitting a dinner because we were not too hungry, and it was no problem. The food was great, the service(by Jackie) was professional AND friendly. We decided we would definitely return with a bigger appetite and try some of the steaks as they looked delicious. The rice pilaf was also very good, and they brought fresh popover type bread which was awesome. Probably the best place in town!
