Spinella's is a REALLY great place! It was constructed in the twenties as an Evangelical church, and its current function as a music venue, restaurant, and bar seems to be what the building was REALLY intended for. The venue is open to all ages, so bring the kids, too! We generally come here to see various bands play and get dinner at the same time. This review will focus on the venue and its food offerings. The food here is surprisingly good! They have a small menu insert whose items are changed out regularly in addition to their surprisingly broad regular menu selection. I tried the jerk chicken sandwich with slaw on a super soft roll from their small menu, and was very impressed. The sandwich was BIG, the flavors very complex, and delivered a slow-smoldering heat that never got overpowering. It was served with house-made potato chips. It was delicious. Also particularly impressive are the Thunder Thighs. These are chicken thighs that are meticulously trimmed of excess fat and other inedibles, seasoned beautifully, deep-fried just like chicken wings, and then sauced with your choice of several different house-made sauces. These were a surprise hit, and are something I order on every return trip. All of the sauces I've tried so far have been outstanding. Why not five stars? Despite the great food, and the genuine sincere friendliness and pride of the owners, they can be a bit inattentive to guests leading to drinks running empty for extended periods of time (which is not necessarily the best thing when eating a spicy jerk chicken sandwich). I hate to say this because they are so nice, but it is one minor item that could be improved.

Amazing atmosphere and good friendly service but the food is just so bland. All I see is elderly people eating here ( probably because their taste buds are all burned out). I have been here three times and now will never go back because I have not ordered one thing that was good and has flavor. The place has a open view of the kitchen and once when our plates were taken away with all the leftover food that we didn't like, you could see the chef and her annoyed reaction. It didn't make us feel very welcome. They should put a door there. Only recommend coming here for a drink. PROS: -atmosphere -full bar -friendly service CONS: -bland food -bland food -bland food Oh and probably antibiotic meat

tried this place for the first time ordered a Bloody Mary and it came out brown, never seen that before. didn't even attempt to drink it. terrible service from the owner, lots of eye rolls and irritated tones when we asked for our bread the owner replied "I don't have 3 fucking hands" no thank you when we closed our tabs. definitely won't be back.

Just ridiculous drinks. I'm in love with their no margarita mix margarita--LOVE. Their food is delicious. The atmosphere is pretty great. Now, all they need is a gay night! Then it'd be perfect :)

This space is very lovely. It's a brick building that was a church. It feels like a brewery should be located here. It's a restaurant/bar/music venue spot instead. They've got a nice selection of beers though. There's a happy hour from 3-6 as well which lowers the prices of alcohol and adds some appetizers into the mix. There's a full bar though there did not seem to be a lot of choices for alcohol. This is unfortunately the case here though in East County. I'm not going to find any local gin and have basically given up trying but I'm guessing stocking more expensive bottles might, well get expensive. The menu has a ton of pasta dishes on it and seems to also gravitate to alfredo sauce from what I could tell. These days we order one main dish and two salads. We got ourselves fettucini and clam sauce which included the alfredo sauce and also had 2 caesar salads. The caesar dressing was your average dressing and of course too much of it but we forgot to have it on the side. It also was salty. You do get a nice portion for 3.00 each however. I might be just picky so see for yourself. The main dish showed up and he did bring the extra plate automatically. (Some places you have to tell them everything as if you were talking to one of your kids or something). The pasta was cooked fine. The clams were very tiny but they were very sweet, and there were many of them throughout the dish. The alfredo sauce was NOT a mix but was freshly made and tasty. It could have been cooked just a little bit longer so it could thicken a bit more, but all in all, it was very good. The cook also did not add any additional salt so you could enjoy the flavor of the actual sauce. They have these weird tvs up front that flash all their music groups that will be there. I get the advertising but it seemed just a wee bit tacky. They also had music on that did not really seem to work with ambience for dinner. I might try this place again and am hoping they figure out what they want the place to be. I also might go and listen to some of their live music. I'm thinking the acoustics might be pretty nice. Maybe a cool jazz venue could work?

Amazing atmosphere, you can tell it's family owned and that's what will keep you coming back for more. Flower pot bread is succulent! Don't even get me started on the thighs... I could eat those for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even a typically bland dish like Mac and Cheese has been reinvented into a delicious dish that will make you upset when you realize you're on the last bite. Then.... take that great food and add friendly staff. They are always wanting to make sure you're enjoying your stay with them. Just like a family owned place should do, they seem to have extensive training in the art of "hospitality". Even with all that, there is live music, the drinks are great and there's karaoke some nights! It's a date night win every time I go there.

Niiiice place for one of those church-to-bar places; not sure that even makes sense. I only came for a wine pickup for Naked Winery that they were hosting downstairs. It is a pretty big place to give you room to roam and not feel like you are eating on top of one another. It will get packed of course closer to the evening hours as its in Gresham and a lot of the locals tend to go there. I cant say it is worth the drive out if you live far away, however if you are in Gresham. Check it out.

It took me forever to finally try this place, I wish I would have started coming here from the beginning! Such good food, drinks and atmosphere! The drinks are the best I've ever had, very strong but don't taste like I'm drinking a lot of alcohol, very sweet and pleasant. The food is good, one of the reviews was saying there was too much sauce on the Mac, I'd have to agree. More noodles and a little less sauce. I can't say enough about the flower pot bread YUM! Something that has bothered me almost every time that I'm there is that the sun comes in through those windows and its usually blinding the person I'm with and it makes me very warm, even on a cold day! Please close the shades when it's sunny!

This is a really cool place. I have been here as three different venues and I like this one the best. However the food fell flat on its face. It was not good. We ordered the courdon bleu balls for an appetizer. Not too bad. A bit salty but good. You have to be careful when eating them. They may be cool to the touch on the outside but are lava on the inside. Bit into one and it squirt hot gravy like liquid that burnt the inside of my mouth. I ordered the thighs. Sounded pretty good on the menu. When they came I was very disappointed. Very small for thighs. Very small. These things had about a 1/16 inch layer of hard dry meat covering the outside like they were under a heat lamp for hours. I ordered the plate of three and they were hard to get through. My wife shared her fish because she felt bad. I had one bite and gave it back. Tasted like deep fried carnival food. I left hungry. So the two stars I give this place is for our server who was extremely sweet.

I had high hopes for this place. I was sorely dissapointed. There were 5 adults and 3 kids in our party. When we got there, there was some sort of large party, which had every table occupied. We had to go up to the bar to find a staff member to see if we could even be seated. Next, this is supposed to be a family friendly place. They only had one working high chair, and when we got there it was being used. Right then we should have known to leave. We waited an hour and a half for our food. None of the staff even acknowledged the wait time. And once our food came, it was mediocre at best. Mushy pasta, bland mac n cheese, and steak bites without any sort of au jus or sauce. The food is incredibly overpriced ($11 for an appetizer size steak bites). Save your money, you'll feel like you were robbed if you eat here. Oh, and the bathroom is in the basement and it's super creepy.

A cool little dive-ish bar in Gresham. We happened to visit on karokee night, which I hear is most nights? Anyway, the entertainment was great from the karokee alone. The drinks were pretty amazing and the food I tried was good. Cute stop!

4 stars for the service 2.5 stars for the food Came in here for the first time tonight based on the recommendation of the staff from Cedarville as the kitchen was closed when I arrived there after 10pm. We walked right in and was immediately greeted by our server and bartender Alex and was given menus at the same time with recommendations for our meal without hesitation. I looked at the drink menu and was curious about a beer and she was more than happy to bring a sample for me to try. I tried the beer but didn't like it and I saw another drink that I thought I would like on the menu and ordered that. We ordered our food shortly after. I ended up ordering the Perlita Pomodoro and my wife orders the Mac and Cheese. The wait was short and our food came rather quickly. Right off the bat the first thing that threw me off was the amount of sauce in both our pasta dishes. I for one always enjoy a lot of sauce but it was so much on our both our dishes it looked like soup. We both took our initial first bites and my wife really enjoyed the mac and cheese. The sauce was perfect other than the amount. The pasta cooked perfectly. The crumble adds a nice textural element to the dish as well. As for my Perlita Pomodoro, The sauce was on the bland side and the capers does not do anything to enhance your palate. Chicken was really dry but the linguine was cooked perfectly. What the stole the show was the flower pot bread which is a roll cooked in a miniature flower pot. The bread was nice and delicate on the inside while the crust of the roll was perfectly baked on the outside. Overall, I would like to come back again and try a few other items on the menu to really pass a thorough judgement of this restaurant. For now the service was really great. Alex was superb as our server. She asked us about our meal and was sincere about our concerns. Another reason why I would gladly come back was her level of professionalism and follow up during our time here. Happy Eating Everyone!

This place has a friendly, local feel and is obviously family-owned. The menu is definitely original and the food is carefully prepared. There's nothing canned or packaged about this place. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. We had the macaroni and cheese and "thunder thighs", and both were terrific. Spicy means spicy as this place doesn't skimp on taste. The only problem here is choosing what to order, as the offerings are diverse as they are tasty. We'll definitely be back to enjoy more of the menu, and to catch the impressive musical acts that play here.

Beer was warm and of limited selection. Baconmary is their signature drink and it is mediocre if you are already drunk. I had the steak salad and ordered it medium rare to rare. Received it ice cold and well done. Steak had zero flavor. Wife had the vegetable Alfredo and loved the sauce. Noodles were cooked correct. Save yourself the trouble and just go someplace else, Portland is way to good on foods/beer to waste your time here.

I wanted to leave just 1 star but I didn't try the food so I'm not gonna knock on them. I went in on a Saturday night around 9pm. I heard they have karaoke some nights which drew my attention so I stopped in to check it out. There was no karaoke...oh well, no big deal so I just wanted to sit and have a beer. The atmosphere is good. I can see it being pretty comfy and fun on a packed evening but there was barely anyone there. I sat at the bar and was greeted. Then I didn't get any service for about 5 minutes until someone behind the counter finally offered me a menu. I just looked at the beverage section real quick to see my choices and put the menu down in an attempt to get someone's attention that I was ready to order. Another 5 minutes goes by and in that time I was able to look around at the decor and notice the staff member texting on their phone behind the counter just 5 feet from me. I really just wanted to leave at that point. So I've been waiting on them. It took 10 minutes to enter, sit at the bar and order a beer. It took 10 minutes to drink the beer and sign the check. I noticed another staff member on their phone too when I was drinking my beer. Seems there's a problem there. I watch a lot of restaurant impossible and bar rescue to start paying attention to things like this. I don't know if I will ever go back unless my wife wants to try the food. It seems like the regulars get good attention but everyone else is shunned. That's just the vibe I got that night.

I gave my sister a birthday party here with about 45 people in attendance back in October. Mike the owner & Alex our waitress were great. They went out of their way to accommodate us making sure the drinks were flowing and the food was ready. We had a nice spot near the large window's and they let us decorate the tables and bring our own cake which was really nice. The service was great the atmosphere was popping with live music and people. The place is not really setup for large parties but they made plenty of room for us. It would be great if they opened the downstairs area up it would be idea for large parties, they just didn't have the staff to support it at the time. I would definitely go back when I'm in town.

Just went here for the first time today for lunch with my co worker. I was a bit worried when we walked in and there was no one there but I was pleased to find good service and good food. I will definitely go back and maybe next time I'll go to check out the live music and get a drink.

So have been about 4 times now at various times of day and ordered different things. I will keep it short. The menu isn't bad, but it is too long. It feels as if they don't know what they do well and are just trying to throw stuff out there and see what sticks. The music is too loud when they play. The place is set up so as to have conversations, but this is not possible because it is so loud. Everything is overpriced for what it is. Cocktails are between $8-9 dollars, when they should be around $5. They plates are all over priced by about $3-4 dollars. If they want to stay in business they are going to have to change it up. The one thing I do like is the flower pot bread, cute and unique idea.

My fiancé and I visit Spinella's at least once a month and have never had a bad experience. The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. Friday night is karaoke night and on Saturdays they have live music. This is a "mom and pop" business so that makes it even more fun for us; knowing we are supporting a small local business. If you're looking for a fun evening and good food, don't hesitate to stop by this establishment!

Had dinner and drinks here last night. The shrimp Alfredo was fantastic! Perfectly prepared and service was outstanding. I had just gone through a very difficult and complicated day and this was the perfect place to relax, unwind and replenish! The waitress / bar tender was super friendly, understanding, and stunningly beautiful! I didn't catch her name but she was amazing! I'd be back but I live 2000 miles away..... Sad face.

Perfect date night! Great food. Great atmosphere. We had mushroom burgers and beers. The burgers were cooked perfect and we loved the music and strawberry crepes to top it off. We will most defiantly return very soon!

Went here the other night because I kept hearing great things about their "famous mac & cheese." It was good, but certainly not that great. For the price, I'd much rather get the mac & cheese from 4th Street and have good service as well. Tiny selection of sodas -- no Pepsi, no Coke, they only have RC. Really? Really? -- and just as few "desserts." The flower pot bread was probably my favorite part of the whole experience, which sounds a bit sad.

My husband was Reallly upset that there was no coke classic. But I really came here for the MAC! I was saddened when my excitement turned into slight sadness. Way to much sauce for the amount of noodles.it was good but not AMAZING like others have said. I was swimming for the noodles. My all time favorite place for MAC is at skyway bar and grill. BUT of course the flower pot roll is true to the description. It was AMAZING:) I would come back and try other things. But not the mac.

My husband and I came here for dinner late on a weeknight because we had heard that they serve a full menu until they close. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere when we crested the steps and entered the restaurant. The lighting was subdued, the atmosphere was calm and classy we were warmly greeted and sat at the bar to chat with the chef and bartender. I know they do karaoke on certain nights so I am sure it is a different experience depending on the night you are there. I had the "drive a steak in it" salad which was better than any steak salad I have ever had before....I mean like WAY better. Mouth is actually salivating thinking about it as I write this. My husband had the "chef's legendary macaroni & cheese" which he said lived up to it's name. We'll be back for sure :)

I have been here a few times actually. This place has so much potential but sadly it just doesn't work. It's in an old church (cool!) but they've done nothing but throw some tables in it. Came once for dinner, nothing memorable. The place was empty except for us. Came twice for karaoke. The guy who runs it (I believe he is the owner) has no system. You just tell him what you want to sing, and then he will, at some point of his random choosing, call you up. If he decides he doesn't want you to sing, you don't sing. And the people we saw singing were INTO IT. Like, serious business. We were there to have fun. It wasn't fun. Also, full of old people...probably just the owner's friends. Won't go back. :(

THE MAC IS TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMY! As well as the bacon mary. Great food late at night. Staff very attentive and fun. We can't wait to go back!

Casual and relaxed environment. Food is a little pricey but well worth it! I've been here a couple times just to try a new menu item. The most recent visit I tried the roasted chicken fettuccine with capers. It was a culinary delight and portion size was very decent. I was full before I was halfway finished so took the rest home for another entire meal. I've been there on a weekend evening when they've had live music. It's always been great and not too loud. I've also been there on Karoake nights and have had loads of fun. This is family owned and operated. The owners are super friendly and always make time to say hi and visit for a few minutes with everyone from newbies to tried and true. I would recommend this for everyone to visit.

I'm so glad we found another great place to eat in Gresham! The menu is full of surprises, and as far as I can tell all good surprises. I went here with my wife and her parents. We were expecting a standard bar menu with greasy snacks, but that's not here. Sure you can order stuff deep fried, but it's all tastefully done. The chef was great, the manager was great. I really don't know why this place isn't mobbed with people all the time. PS: I read one bad review on this place, somewhere on Yelp, where the guy said he was unhappy about getting 8 fries with his burger. Maybe it was different when you went in, but when I looked at the menu last night, that's a specific item. It's called the Prison Plate, and it's a burger *with 8 fries* - says so on the menu. My wife and I got a good laugh at that. Maybe your review inspired them to change the menu, who knows. Anyway, great place, great atmosphere. We'll be back frequently. The wings, btw, excellent. Ron's Salad: unique tang to it, really enjoyed it. Flower-pot bread: fantastic!! And fun idea. Portobello mushroom burger: didn't try it, but father-in-law gave it two thumbs up.

We tried this place this past Friday night. We noticed this place is fairly new in Downtown Gresham and wanted to see what it was. I have to say the signage is a little misleading. We weren't sure if it was a comedy club, some sort of live rap venue, a place catering to skaters, or a drive bar. We were pleasantly surprised once inside. It's inside a nifty old church that they've turned into a restaurant/bar with a full menu upstairs. I believe they do live music downstairs, but we didn't go down there. Anyway, it's definitely a cool setting in an old church. We were very impressed with the menu--good stick-to-your-ribs kind of food--Burgers, appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, fish and chips, with a large variety of options. We started out with mozarella sticks with marinara (yum). Then I had the bacon mac n cheese and a side salad, and my husband had the philly cheeseteak. The mac and cheese was yummy--very creamy and the salad was good too--not just a plain salad but had some little goodies in it. My husband liked his philly cheesesteak but said it wasn't the best he'd had but was good. However, he was very happy they had Ninkasi Total Domination on tap. Overall, we will definitely be back--nice neighborhood place with a great menu in a cool building. We might suggest changing the sign a bit though because it's really unclear what exactly "Spinella's off the wall" with a drawing of a guy in a baseball cap means. Doesn't really denote "nifty bar/restaurant in an old church".

Had a great time with my wife there last week. She had a seize her salad and I had the Reuben. We loved the fun menus and graphics. Service was a bit slow, it looked like they weren't prepared for the evening. The food though was great. We're looking forward to our next visit. Docked a star for service and loud music setting up, need to take the volume down from eleven in a live room folks ;).

Not understanding why all of the 5 star reviews. Were these reviews written by the owners?!? We went for eats and drinks during happy hour. Were told there was no happy hour food menu. The waiter showed us a menu item that might be of interest. I believe it was a small burger with 8 french fries. Yes, 8 french fries. We finished our drinks and moved onto Nicholas for dinner, which was amazing. Disappointed that Spinella's was so bad. This restaurant is located in an old church(?!?) and I was psyched to check this place out. Totally drab interior with giant tv screens over their bland bar.

SO first off, let me say that my wife and I still ask each other what does the name mean? Maybe someday we'll actually ask.....ANYWAY! Spinella's is a great addition to Gresham, we cannot say enough good things about it. I hate to say it, but I'm stuck on the mac and cheese. I've gone through a phase right now searching out the best mac and cheese all over and BY FAR this is the best, hands down! 503 in West Linn used to be the winner, but it's hit and miss whereas Spinella's is consistantly good everytime. The wife on the other hand has tried many different items and has said everything has been fantastic. The chicken parm is almost, dare I say it, to die for. It came the first time with broccli, I hate broccoli but tried ot, it was.....brocolli, but the wife said it was the best broccoli she has e er had in her life, and she's eaten alot of broccoli. :) The drinks are prepared as a value for your money, the flower pot bread is unique, but nessesarily the best bread I've tasted, but cute and unique. And I think this is what describes Spinella's best is unique. Drinking in a converted church? Almost feel like your doing something bad, and then your food comes and you know it's so right! We just hope more people discover it and get them the credits they deserve so it stays around for a VERY long time! Thanks Spinella's and the fantastic staff!

Great cocktails. They make chicken thighs instead of wings. I must say that the thighs are much better than other restaurant's wings. Burger was really good. Overall, everything that we had was really good. Also, it is family run and the son and daughter who took care of us really made us feel welcome. We will definitely return to listen to the live music. I have several friends who have gone there during that time and they raved about the musc and the restaurant.

A little torn here that Yelp doesn't allow half star ratings. I was between the 3 and 4 stars but gave it 4 because of the 5 star waitress. Went here because of the reviews and we are in to trying new places lately. First the atmosphere was pretty cool. Nice old church done up nice inside. But on a hot day, it was pretty warm inside. The menu was big with many options. Bar food mostly. I tried the Reuben sandwich upon the waitresses recommendation. I haven't had once since high school over 30 years ago. I upgraded from the home made chips to their "Tornado Twister" curly fries for $2. The sandwich was awesome. The curly fries were exactly the same as I get from Arby's so I wasn't impressed. My wife had the Sicilian (french) dip. Nothing special and pretty small for the price. Au jus was good. We both thought the portions were small for the price. However, I am interested enough to go back and try this place again maybe on a cooler day. It is still really new and wasn't busy at all. A bit close to 4th Street Brewery to me to try to start a business like this but I will wish them well.

LOVE LOVE this place. Great food, awesome drinks...Alex (one of the servers) rocks it every time. We are planning my next birthday party here.... Just like last year!

Sad face.
