I don't know what the bad reviews are from. We had the time of our lives. Food was great, Drake our server was exceptional, the music was totally awesome. They definitely live up to the reputation of Eugene's home of the Blues. Reminds me of the clubs back home in Chicago we used to go and see the great local musicians. Not stuffy like some of the newer places. The beer, we'll, IPA was the best.

I really wanted to like this place, but it proved impossible. We ordered food and a drink. The drink service was a bit slow, but two hours later the kitchen had not even started our order. We only saw the waitresses one more time for another slow drink service. Finally we decided to settle up and leave, with no sign of food, and were treated with a serious attitude - of the customer is always wrong - by a manager no less. I would recommend going somewhere, in fact almost anywhere else.

Don't let the name fool you, this isn't your grandpa's bar! The vets club does have a varied clientle, but it isn't a bunch of older gentleman sitting around like they're at the lodge. They are famous for their beer cheese soup, which has been the same recipe for over 20+ years I hear. You can get a burger and microbrew for $8 on a weekly special. The food is reasonably priced, and is down home cooking good. Staples like chicken fried steak, and pot roast are frequently served. Drinks are strong, music is good and the staff, every accommodating. Nothing pretentious about this local hang out. Come as you are, and you will be greeted with a smile.

I stepped into Mac's one evening when my friend's band had booked a gig upstairs. I needed a few minutes to get ready to listen to some really screechin' noise acts. The place was almost empty, and the feel is really laid-back. A good bit of Knob Creek from their big bottle was just the thing to get me ready to go upstairs to be yelled at (with massive microphone feedback!) The drink specials are great deals, but you can order whatever drink you'd like, and the Pesto Bread Bowl appetizer is probably what you should like to go with it. I was told to come back on a Thursday for sing-a-long night, so I brought my friends down to celebrate my birthday there. That was a good call--We sang along to some 90's songs we kinda knew, had a bunch of drinks and fun. Next time, I'm going to stay later, because we had to move on just as it seemed everybody was getting drunk enough to start singing dirty/embarrassing things. The "Oatmeal Cookie" shot they gave me for my birthday was mm-mm-tasty! Sit at the bar if you want to chat with the friendly staff and/or get served quicker. Minors can come in for lunch and dinner (they may be not allowed after 9PM though).

Thursday night is (nearly empty) sing-along night. Bring your song requests and enjoy the cheap drink specials. If you're lucky like me, the guitarist will have several too many and when he wins at video poker, he'll treat your party to a round of drinks!

Macs. You either love it or hate it. We love it! Outdoor music on the veranda in summer, pretty often good blues and dancing indoors. Surprisingly good chef if you stay away from the fried stuff. Macs is a large venue and it wears many hats, so it takes awhile to get to know it. In its own way though, it's a Eugene institution.

I have been here a handful of times. It's that delicious Mac & Cheese / awesome staff that go beyond the distance to make sure you're enjoying yourself. Not to mention the live jazz, and lottery room. I highly recommend this place!!!

I didn't like it! What else can I say! Ohhhh wait a tick...I have quite a bit more to say actually... We stopped here for about 2 hours for a friends birthday party. When I arrived the waitress asked what I would like to drink. I asked what they had on tap and all they had was Hop Valley's Alphadelic. Hell yeah!! Better than Total Dom which is at almost every establishment these days. Once my beer was delivered, I instantly noticed that this wasn't an IPA. It was clearly a Lager. How do I know? VERY FEW IPA's have a clear appearance. Hop Venom is one of the clearest IPA's i've seen. However, what I had was Double D Blonde. Considering I was at a table with many people, I wasn't ready to hash out the argument. My 2nd pint of beer was IPA....an accident i'm sure. I was pondering getting some food, but then I seen a few plates delivered. The food looked sad. I felt bad for it. I wanted to put it out of it's missery and find a stray dog on the side of the road and do them both a favor. So when the Lager gal asked me, "What will you have to eat?" I politely declined. I was incredibly hungry too!! That's the sad part. Lastly, when I went to break the seal...I was locked out. The bathroom's are located through some double doors in a hallway. So I had to knock rather loudly on the door so that I could rejoin our group. Thankfully, there was another dinner party sitting down eating who seen me stranded behind the double doors. After a little heckling and laughter they let me in. I can't blame them either!! Return Factor: 10%

Great place to go for decent food, enthusiastic service and wonderful live music. Blues every Monday and 25% of the food! I especially love their turkey burger, it's very moist with a cranberry spread. The inside isn't much to look at and their drinks are just average, but strong. It's a solid go-to, especially when I'm in the mood for tunes.

I have not had food this good in a long time! Prime ribs was cooked right and well seasoned. Served with roasted veggies and a great salad. Drake was our server and was so good. he knew what to do and when to do it, a pro! Try Mac's, it's a bar in the vets club with GREAT food. They do live music 6 notes at 8PM.

this use to be my very favorite place in Eugene. I use to tell everyone, when the subject came up that Mac's menu was right up there with the best of them but oh, my gosh it has gone down hill. They took away all the great things that I use to order. The waitress were still very sweet and helpful but I'm just really sad about the rest of it... I will of course be back for the music but I'll go elsewhere to eat... ;(

I'm usually at the Vet's ballroom for dancing, but have ventured downstairs where The Blues meets The Food. Mac's blues' theme restaurant doesn't miss a beat when it comes to American cuisine courtesy of fabulous Northwest ingredients and inspiration. They do host live music and bands...check out their calendar....though I haven't experienced these kinds of events here (yet!). The bar is full service and staff is most welcoming. It just always seems so dark...but aren't all nightclubs?

My experience at Mac's was fantastic! I am surprised by all of the negative reviews on this page, because it doesn't reflect my experience at all! My husband and I went here for dinner quite recently. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, fun, and accommodating to our every request. The menu was very impressive. There were so many things we wanted to try. We started out with the brussell sprouts, which were topped with bacon and a delightful maple dressing... UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! For dinner, my husband had the salmon picatta, which was well presented and perfectly cooked. I had the mac and cheese, which was like none that I have ever tried! They have taken this American classic to a whole new level, nothing short of gourmet! After dinner, we were too full for desert, so our waitress suggested that we try a cocktail and stick around for the music. We tried two of the drink specials, one which tasted exactly like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! It was crazy! I'll be back for that one alone! The music started and the band was really talented. We proceeded to dance the night away. Probably the best date night my husband and I have enjoyed in years! We can't wait to go back!

The Vets club is a Eugene classic and Mac's does I justice! Sometimes the wait is a little longer than what we'd like but the quality of the food makes it a good value. Especially if you have a coupon:). The Cobb salad is awesome and the taco salad is yummy too. We've also tried the potstickers and beef and salmon sliders and the were all satisfactory. We've also ordered take out and they've done well making sure the order was complete and got everything we asked for:). Oh and if they ever they have the prime rib sliders with su jus on special, get them! So yummy!

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. Yelp wont let me give it less than 1 star, but it deserves much less. Went here tonight for the first time with an impromptu party of five friends. Menu looked decent enough but we are unsure about the food because after waiting for just short of 2 hours, we tracked down a waitress to get an ETA on food and she told one of us "we were being plated" and another of us was told that "there was a printer error and our order wasn't placed." We asked to be comped for our few drinks so we could go elsewhere for food and the manager became belligerent and discriminatory; alluding that one of our party was too old to understand computerized ordering systems! As we looked around, only one table of 2 had food, everyone else was still waiting. Something clearly went wrong in the kitchen tonight, but that doesn't excuse the waitress from not keeping us informed and nothing excuses this manager's outrageous behavior. There are tons of great meals in Eugene, Please don't waste your time, hard-earned money or happiness on this train wreck of a place.

Good experience tonight. Probably would not have gone here again after our last time visiting when the food looked like it had been cooked in the morning and then put under a heat lamp until that particular dish came up for order. Tonight was totallly different. Had the mac and cheese which was flavorful and cooked well. Only complaint is that there could have been more of all the add-ons we chose. Maybe also a bit expensive for the fare but it was very fresh tonight. The server, Kimberly, was great! Really friendly, attentive, helpful and outgoing. She didn't even seem annoyed that it took us forever to decide what we wanted. She was the one who helped us to settle on the mac and cheese! Likely will be back in the near future, especially to enjoy some music while we eat.

We ate dinner here once, a few weeks ago. Gift certificate, I think. For dinner, once was definitely enough. The menu was full of typical American restaurant standards. It reminded me of a place my parents would have taken me back East in the 80s. For that matter, my parents would like this place now. Full of old people with underdeveloped taste buds. There was nothing, or next to nothing, vegetarian on the menu. I got fish and chips--bland and overpriced. Everything on the menu seemed to be at least a couple dollars more than I would have expected. Two stars instead of one because a) the server was super nice and b) it seemed like a potentially intriguing music venue. If I was having a midlife crisis and suddenly into the white-person's-blues, which seemed to be the primary genre advertised.

This place is awesome! I'm from Portland and get to Eugene every now and then to visit family. I love going to Mac's every time I'm there. It's definitely not an "old person bar." It's lively and fun with great bands. The staff is always super friendly and make me feel very welcome. The food is delish! I've never had anything I didn't like. They have quite a varied menu with options that would delight any taste bud. I like trying new selections each time. Definitely not your regular "bar food" kinda place. The drinks are fabulous, with quite a selection. There's dancing and music, lots of fun! I'm in my 30s and would rate this place as one of my favorites in Eugene. Definitely check in out!
