Incredible. We just had Chan's for the first time tonight, and it was crazy delicious. We read a bunch of reviews and everyone said the takeout portions were enormous and piping hot when they got it home. When we opened up the bag, I'm pretty sure I heard angels start singing.... Price was great, portions are HUGE, and it's location is right off 3rd. I think we've found our new chinese go-to. You'll be hard pressed to find a better value than this.

Clean and roomy. Plays Chinese music in the background. Feasibly priced. Portions are HUGE! Many menu choices. Dishes made with no MSG. No sodium option. Gluten free option. Tasty food.

Good food and I greatly appreciate the wide variety of Gluten free dishes they will make. Im a celiac and never have problem here.

One night in Bend. Why not have Chineese? I am so glad we gave Chan's a try. The shrimp, scallop and vegetable dish was fresh and expertly cooked. The shrimp were large and the bay scallops were moist and juicy. Perfect! We ordered the kung pao beef. Nice to see the veggies were different than those in the seafood dish. Again, lots of flavor, excellent selection. As mentioned in other posts, the portions were large. Oh, yes, and the service was friendly and speedy. Yum, yum yum!

Very large portions! The food is so full of flavor. The service could be better, but in no means is it bad. My favorite place for Chinese food!

I really wanted to like this place. I've given it 3 tries out of convenience. The quantities are big but the quality sucks. The Mongolian beef was so tough I couldn't even chew it enough to swallow. The pot stickers are decent if you use hot oil and fresh ginger and soy sauce. The food is pre-made and kept hot. Example, the noodles expand and get really doughy because it's been kept hot for so long. I wouldn't be surprised if they reuse yesterdays leftover food by just reheating it. Yuck! Advise: improve the quality and cook the food fresh to order!

Chan's is the best Chinese in Bend, hands down. You get a TON of food for the prices (which are awesome). It has been a regular stop for my family for over a decade now. I especially recommend to those visiting bend for a good lunch spot- you really can't beat the prices.

Not my kind of place at all. I know and have heard many people like this place and I have to think it is because it is cheap. The food doesn't cost a lot but I think that is why my stomach didn't do to well after eating here. I don't know if they use MSG but maybe that was why I didn't feel well after dining here. I wont be back but I know many people will. Staff was nice and accomadating. I give them a 4 star. Food gets only 1.

It's not horrible by any means! We got a big to go order on Saturday night. No parking first of all, very small lot. It was also packed. We took that as a good sign. Problem was by the time we got home the sweet and sour chicken was just an oily mushy mess. Probably would have been ok fresh. The sweet sour chicken didn't taste all that fresh and I think it was the oil? The other combo items were a lot of yummy vegetables, which were very good. The other meat tastes good, hubs just didn't like it. I hated the hot and sour soup! I usually love all types, but this had tons of celery and tomatoes and not much else. Was sweet and the tomatoes made it taste like tin. Yuk!!!! We might might try again if we ever come back to town. Just won't get it to go or get soup!

I suppose there's a "Stephanie" in every crowd (see her oh-so-shitty review below). Although Chan's is obviously regarded as one of Bend's choice Chinese restaurants, those like me who've both lived in Asia and in large US cities are certainly spoiled by more authentic Chinese cuisine - although Chan's certainly have their own versions of various dishes, I cannot say their food wasn't good or up to par in ANY way! I'm not used to steamed dumplings (aka pot stickers) made Chan's way, as they're filled with both pork and veggies -- but I really enjoyed their version. The dumplings were well stuffed, steamed and then lightly grilled, and UNLIKE many Chinese restaurants, the dumplings didn't have an extra thick layer of dough. I ordered the Szechuan Beef, again it was unlike what I've had hundreds of times before. Instead of shredded carrots (the main veggie ingredient) there were not only thick pieces of carrot, but several other veggies, unlike what I'm used to. BUT, not only was there an enormous amount of beef, but every single slice was obviously from a damn good cut, and as tender as tender gets. Different veggies or not, it really comes down to the sauce... Chan's version of Szechuan Beef is certainly different, but I must say it was terrific. On top of that good meal, I'd called about 15 minutes before closing. I was pretty beat up from driving all day and was in a motel room when I called Chan's. I didn't know they didn't deliver, yet the owner said he'd be happy to drop my order off seeing I was close by! So whether it's "Bend-style Chinese" or whatever you want to call it, from my experience Chan's is one damn good place to eat. IMHO, Stephanie probably needs a little more fiber in her diet, and maybe needs her meds adjusted too... this isn't exactly the forum for venting one's spleen, much less her "guts". Shame on you.

We went to the newly re-opened Chan's last night for dinner and had a pretty great meal. Having dined there about a year ago (pre-fire), I was pleasantly surprised by the "new" Chan's. Better food, better service, WAY better decor and ambiance. Now after patronizing pretty much all of the Chinese options here in Bend, I have to say that Chan's is my favorite. There were 5 of us dining last night, so we shared an order of veggie spring rolls, beef and broccoli, chicken lo-mein, cashew chicken and chicken chow mein. Portions were huge and delicious and we all left full and happy (with a bag of leftovers for lunch today, Yay!). Our server was friendly and efficient, without being overbearing, and it was an overall nice dining experience. We'll definitely be checking out Chan's again the next time we're craving Chinese food in Bend. It's not the BEST Chinese food I've ever had, but it's the best in Bend. :)

  • Walerz B.

Quantity over quality. A SHITLOAD of food for less than $6. I ordered sesame chicken and got soup, a crispy spring roll, rice and practically a platter of chicken. It's cheap food but passable and you'll be full and have more to bring home. Service was fine.

  • Jay P.

This is the best Chinese food in Bend. However, the service is not that great and they only offer one refill on drinks, pretty downright cheap if you ask me. I keep going back though because the food and portions make up for it's downfalls.

We had dinner here on July 4th on the recommendation of a friend. It was worth the effort. It was pretty decent Chinese Food for Oregon. And that's coming from a Chinese guy who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. All the dishes we had were tasty and the portions were fantastic. Here's the rundown. Potstickers were good but not great. However, the dipping sauce that came with them was excellent - better than many others I have tried. Of the 4 entrees we had, the chicken stir fry with green beans was the best. Beans were perfectly cooked and dish had nice flavor. The szechwan chicken was also very tasty with nice mixture of chicken, green peppers etc. Could have been a bit more spicy, but then again this was Bend. The beef chow fun was not bad - it passed muster with my daughter the Chow Fun maniac. And the orange chicken was nice, but not great. Nothing wrong with it. But probably would order some other choice next time. A good meal and an even better value for the money. Give this place a try. You probably won't be disappointed. Just make sure you pick dishes that you like.

Some of the best "Chinese" food around. If you have to go somewhere for American Chinese food, which I love, Chan's is a good bet. Been around for a while and is a local favorite, I wouldn't go anywhere else in bend. Great for groups and takeout.

I first ate at Chan's almost 10 years ago while on vacation in Sunriver, and I have eaten here every time I have been back since then. The portions here are huge, one dish is large enough to feed three people! The prices are also really low. The food is great, there is a wide variety of dishes, and I have never been disappointed. Chan's is the place to go in Bend.

  • Becki T.

Chan's is consistent, fresh, fast and plentiful Chinese food....in Bend. We love to hit it when we have a busy few days ahead of us, so we can eat leftovers for days. And I'm a bit of a 'restaurant canary'....if preparation is substandard, I will get ill. Chan's doesn't use MSG and I've never had a bad reaction to their food, eat-in OR call-ahead-pick-up-take-out. Not something I can say of all Chinese restaurants, for sure. Great place to take college boys who are bottomless pits, too. Perfectly addicted to Kung Pao chicken!

Just moved to Bend and trying to find a reliable Chinese take out place... I honk this might be it. Standard fare, not like, earth shattering, but better quality than I expected for the price. Prices were very reasonable compared to Denver and the portions were huge! Definitely a new staple. If you're looking for haute Chinese cuisine, this probably isn't it, but for what it is, it's major yum.

  • Linda K.

Got take out last night. The portions were huge and steaming hot! The pork fried rice had minimal veggies, moderate amount of pork and lots of egg. Good portion of sliced BBQ pork on top. The sweet and sour chicken came with the sauce separate which I prefer! The breading wasn't too thick. The chow mein was regular but very fresh. The beef and Broccoli was good but packaged with all the broccoli on the bottom and all the beef on top. The General Tso's chicken was the biggest disappointment because it was sweet and not spicy at all! Overall this place was a winner! $48 for 5 items with humongous serving sizes! We will have leftovers for days!

Great food, fresh ingredients. You are definitely not going away hungry. We had enough food leftover for another full meal.

Love the food, Love the Price! Visitors: I highly recommend! Why, because I know vacation with the kids can be expensive and you want to feed the whole gang without having to pay an arm and a leg (reminds me of the time my Fam of 5 had bad Chinese food at the only one in Estest, CO). We take all of our out of town guest here... they still talk about it. *Waiters - I like them all *personable* *Generous portions, and Delicious! *Price - perfect My Chinese Food Background: grew up with a Chinese restaurant (rated 5 stars) next to my parents Mexican restaurant, zero in MO, and CO it was all about Thai and sushi because there were no good CR. So I consider myself lucky with Chan's!

Great food and large portions. Seated quickly. Nice ambience. Get Mu Shu and low carb Triple Szechuan for good and healthy.

  • Marty S.

This is easily the best Chinese in central oregon. It may not be the best in the country but it certainly does a good job and I'm happy that we have it. In fact, when I want Chinese food, this is my only option . The meals are excellent, fairly priced and the service is FAST!! My only complaint is that you don't get refills on your soda which I think is weird. Other than that , I've never been disappointed.

    (5)
  • Renge' G.

Appallingly mediocre. I've never liked this place but then I have limited choices since I don't eat red meat or pork. My Husband has been a fan in the past, but tonight we called it fini after tasteless mushu vegetables consisting of primarily cabbage (and not nearly enough hoisin sauce and pancakes for the amount of mushu), green beans in bland black bean sauce, and creepy eel-like (mushy) chicken & green beans in more bland black bean sauce. I don't know why we continue to waste our money here--sheer longing for some tasty ethnic food I guess, and seriously poor memories. Chans excels at quantity over quality, so if you can manage to finish one plate of bleck you won't be comforted to know you will have many meals of lame, unappealing leftovers ahead. Save your Chinese food longings for the big city and your money for Bend's other decent eateries. Chans isn't one of them. A big disappointment.

We were in the mood for Chinese and were told this place was pretty good. Upon arriving the outside of the restaraunt could use an updated look, but who really cares? It's the outside! The interior looks good and they have a bunch of really cool chinese artifacts and things in cases. (Not sure if they are real, but still cool). The menu is huge, offering a wide variety of styles of Chinese food and their portions are even bigger. Do not order an entree for yourself unless you eat like a sumo wrestler or you like to eat leftovers. A really cool thing they do is bring you complimentary oolong tea. I thought it was a really nice touch and got very excited for the food. We had potstickers as a starter which were basically a wad of pork inside a dumpling... I do not recommend this! We also had the egg drop soup...I do not recommend this either. I got Kung Pao chicken and my wife got Mother's chicken and neither of them were good. At least the entrees were better than the appetizers. We couldn't even finish them. The vegetable spring rolls were surprisingly great. I love to give out 4&5 stars reviews, but we were not happy with our food at Chan's. We wouldn't recommend dining here and won't be back since there are so many other great places for Chinese.

This will be the first time I write a bad review about any restaurant. I usually just spend my time writing about the good one. But I really think Chan should stop using old oil that tastes like it had been reused for numbers of time. I spent $30 on their food and all my family and I could tasted was old , stinky oil. It was gross and I felt really ripped off.

If you like good chinese food combined with explosive diarrhea, then Chans is the place for you. I did a quick search on phone for good restaurants in Bend as I was getting into town and Chans came up as fairly highly rated! Chinese sounded good! So the first warning sign should have been the fact i had to park next to a dumpster behind Chans that apparently is filled with rotting carcasses. The 2nd warning sign would have had to been the "NEW MENU" sign on the front door (makes you think what happened to the old menu?) But, I was hungry and Chinese sounded so good. I ordered the cashew chicken, which every Chinese person on planet earth learns to make by the age of 2. They coupled it with a free bowl of hot n sour soup and some fried rice! It all tasted pretty good, the soup was great, the cashew chicken quite good, the fried rice was more like Uncle Ben's but passable. I wolfed down as much as I could, paid the bill and got in the truck to continue on my journey north on Hwy 97. About Redmond, the warning signs from my stomach began. Kind of like an internal explosion, like you ate a box of Pop Rocks and drank a pepsi. But the moment passed and I didn't think anymore on it. BIG MISTAKE! As I neared Madras my internal combustion was starting to really hit its stride! I passed a gas station and thought "maybe i should pull in here and take care of business" but decided instead to soldier on. Another potentially fatal mistake because about a block later my insides told me they wanted to be outside. I raced into the McDonalds, cutting off a family of hungry people at the door and bolted to the bathroom JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME! My advice to travelers that eat at Chans is to have an emergency preparedness plan. Figure that the McDonalds in Madras is the very limit of human endurance and plan your next stop either in Redmond or at the southern end of Madras, like Burger King or Bi-Mart.

Did take out last night. Had family style gourmet dinner for four of us. OMG was that the best ever. Shrimp dish awesome. More food than we could finish and we each had large plate fulls Included every thing needed. If u want soup u need to bring container. Staff was great at front desk. I am not sure we avoid going back again tonight.

It seems like you could get a great meal at this restaurant however me and my girlfriend did NOT. the Pros: nice atmosphere and clean. Looks raggity from the outside but far better on the inside. The cons: Our server gave us our food and never visited us again, I even had to hunt her down to get the check. Other people around us seem to have gotten better service, our glasses didn't even get refilled. Lastly, I liked my chicken but both me and my girlfriends noodles were over done and soggy. Their clay-pot noodles where very bland.

This trip to Chan's was the most regrettable I have ever had. First they put meals down In front of us that belonged to another table then moved them to the other table. Good thing I didn't sneeze. Part of our table was served before the other part by 40 min. In addition every single meal was incorrect. The food itself was over cooked, not burned just over cooked. Very very disappointing in a local favorite.

Food was incredible, the service was great, and it was nice and quiet. They went above my expectations. We ordered the calamari Mongolian style, mothers chicken combo 1, egg flower soup and the hot and spicy soup. The portions were huge and well worth the money. You will have left overs. I will be coming here again.

Chan's is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Bend. Hands down. My personal favorites are the Ginger Cilantro Chicken and Shrimp and the Chicken Pineapple Fried rice. (I'm a snob and ALWAYS ask for white meat.) It's a $1.50 extra by the way. But so worth it. Doesn't hurt that the portions are large enough to feed a small country.

The best Mapo Tofu in town! ... and they put pork in it like the real stuff in Sichuan. If only I could get them to serve it with hua jiao ;) I can add it at home though. The service is always friendly and the portions are quite large.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I've never found Mongolian beef as good as Chan's. Other favorite is the Peking pork. Everything else I've tried has been great. The prices are very good. There's enough for me to have 2-3 meals out of whatever I get. I've tried all the other Chinese restaurants in Bend, and this is my favorite by far. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is calm. I always enjoy it.

Just had lunch at chans! Always fantastic, fast and the price-point, you just can't beat! I've eaten there for 20 years and have introduced at least 30 people to the restaurant. Not once have we been disappointed. Need a quick meal (or, really 2...I always take home left-overs, so it's really 2 meals in one!), run to Chans! Kathy Kemper-Green

This place is my favorite new Chinese Food restaurant. I've been craving Kung Pao Chicken since I moved here 3 months ago and yelped this today. The atmosphere was clean and cozy, the food was hot and came our relatively quickly. The staff was nice and the owners seemed to take pride in their establishment. My Fiancé had the Teriyaki chicken off the dinner menu and I had the Kung Pao off the lunch menu. The portions were huge! The lunch menu pricing was so inexpensive. Can't wait to go back.

Good, simple eats. Chicken eggplant = delicious. Egg roll = large portion. If you want authentic or high end Chinese food, this is not the place. If you want simple, clean flavors and fast service, this is your go-to place! Prices = Cheap. Lunch for under $7, with soup, appetizer, fried rice and entree...what a STEAL! Everything else on the menu looked reasonable as well. Service = friendly and efficient.

Let's be real: we're in Bend.... There's not a whole lot of exceptional Chinese food in this town. If you want amazing and authentic Chinese, you might need to check Portland.. That being said: This place is great! Nice, cozy atmosphere, with somewhat private booths. Seemed clean, and the staff was very polite and fast. Our waitress was really sweet and laidback; she was super on top of things and had everything out in perfect timing. Between the two of us, we got a beef dish and a chicken dish. Each came with soup and rice (3 rice options!). We had SO MUCH food that we had leftovers that lasted for lunch and dinner the next day. It was crazy! All of that was less than $25! AND they serve hot tea for free, love that. The meat was great, the sauce was awesome, the veggies were crisp. I really liked this place. I also loved that the menu had a variety of Chinese styles to choose from. We really weren't expecting a fine dining experience, or Top Chef Chinese food.... But we enjoyed it and will be back!

Real chinese people do not eat here. And will never eat here. Ever. Or anybody who enjoys chinese food, and has consumed DECENT chinese food before. Any hole in the wall p.o.s. take-out restaurant in New York City would have a 5 star rating if they were compared to this place. I know most chinese take out restaurants have variations on the same sauce to make different dishes such as general tso's, szechuan, kung-pao, sesame ect, this place just has the same sauce, and taste, for everything. (Sweetened Soy Sauce) I know JFC the largest asian food distributor comes out here to central oregon. Please order some more quality ingredients from them. At this point the, all those asian frozen dinners at Fred Meyer's are above your level. I really hated(!) this place. A lot. Bend and surrounding areas, I am sorry this is the best rated chinese restaurant.

Pros: Tasty food, massive portions, very cheap. Cons: Occasionally (1 in 10 chance) iffy service but usually easily mitigated. My family and I love this place for Sunday lunch and take out.

CHAN'S IS BACK IN BUSINESS AS OF YESTERDAY! Eight months after a major fire caused the owner to close Chan's, gut the place and start over, twenty five years to the day Chan's first opened, owner Lap Chan's restaurant is open again. To celebrate the reopening, for eight days there will be lunch and dinner specials that run $2.25 and $6.95 respectively, reflecting the pricing of the long ago original opening. News reports say Chan's staff is now up to 30 from 20, so that's good all around for jobs in a community where unemployment is well above national averages. Not only that, but verified Mr. Chan continued to pay his regular staff during the eight months the restaurant was closed. Pretty impressive. Wish I could say my hubby and I are fans of Chans' food. But we're never been, putting it below average for quality that we were used to during our 20 some years living in the SF area. But we'll try again and hope that an updated kitchen and additional staff will both be beneficial. Time will tell. In the meantime, you'll likely need to get in a long line if you want a seat at Chan's. Bend really is a desert for decent Chinese food and while Chan's food wouldn't win accolades in a major market, it is the best Chinese food in this little city. Not to mention what a good guy is Mr. Chan.

I've been going to Chan's for years, and their food has always been great. Not so last night. I ordered Yu Xiang Pork, which is always spicy-hot. This was as bland as it could possibly be. My husband had a shrimp noodle stir-fry - the noodles were definitely NOT STIR-fried, who knows what they were! This was the worst dinner we've had in Bend (not just worst Chinese food, worst food period ) in YEARS. Do I need to say we won't be going back?

Chans opened back up today, and i went for lunch with a friend. I got my food after only a 30 minute wait while my friends food took another 30 minutes to arive. My chicken was cold, bland, and the fryer oil was rancid. My friends food was mediocre, and we almost walked out. The power kept failing and the wait staff were very slow. I will not be returning.

I just wanted to write a review of this establishment, my husband, mother and father in law and I ate there September 2011 and I think it has to be the best chinese/ oriental food I've ever eaten out at a restaurant. Service too, was also amazing. We had a fun. quick witted waitress who we loved. I can't wait to visit back to Oregon from Texas and go back for the LoMien, which was also awesome I might add and the Sunflower soup. Thanks, hope to see you and eat there again soon!

2013 Edit: Went back to Chan's today & my experience was totally different. The food was not good at all. We had Spring Rolls for appetizer but they had a weird taste. Our dimmers came with soup so we had Egg Flower-no flavor & Hot & Sour soup-ugh! so sweet you couldn't taste anything. Our meals were Shrimp with Lobster Sauce-but there was NO sauce & the white, clotted egg sticking to the shrimp looked ugly. There was quite a few shrimp but once taken out there was a pile of veggies. I had the House Clay Pot Noodles which had NO flavor at all & the noodles were mushy & so slimy they stuck together. The beef in it was tasty but the chicken & shrimp also tasted bland. I can't remember ever not boxing leftovers to go home (the best part) from a Chinese restaurant but we took nothing. Even the fortune cookies were stale & tasteless. What happened to this place?? 2012: The reviews are true- Chan's is great!! Only gave it 4 stars when compared to places in SF & LA Chinatown. We are visiting Bend from LA (frequent LA Chinatown & formerly NY so we want GOOD Chinese food) tired & hungry from hiking the amazing volcanic areas. Trusting my fellow Yelpers reviews, we stopped at Chans. The people were great and the food was full of flavor and enough to easily split (I read someone said you could split between 2-3 but I had doubts since I was really hungry- but now instead I have leftovers for 2 more dinners!! Which is great too) We had Hot & Sour (different but good) and Egg Drop (very good!) Entrees were BBQ pork fried rice (very flavorful but a touch dry for me), House Chow Fun (the best- thick, tender noodles with every meat in a complex & wonderful sauce!) and Yu Xiang, a shredded Pork dish that was sweet and spicy. We had it mild for my husband- but it needed the regular spice to balance the sweet. Now the only problem is I will be wanting Chan's when I am back in Marina del Rey! They just don't get the idea of flavor in their dishes like Mr. Chan does.

Super nice people here. The food was starchy and not very authentic. HUGE portions so you can feed an army on $20.

We came here with family for a nice dinner and none of us were disappointed! Everything was kind of new here. After I realized that there was a fire here, I was surprised by the level of quality the builder went to to make this an inviting neighbourhood American-style Chinese restaurant. It was pretty cool, to say the least....for a new place. The food was great. The fried calamari, kung pao chicken, Szechuan beef are my favourites here. The soup is delicious.....although The service was pretty quick and the dishes were better than anything else I have ever had (Chinese) in Bend. The prices were quite reasonable and the whole family was in and out for under 50 bucks! Anyone who is a debbie downer might try and write differently....I wouldn't listen....try for yourself!

We got scared away from Double Happiness (our old standby) by the haters on Yelp, but I'm not sure Chan's is a do over for us. The takeout service was weird. When I called in our order, they took down my name and phone number, but when my husband arrived they didn't have any names on the takeout orders. He ended up with the right thing eventually, but had to text me to find out the number I'd used on the order. The food: Kung Pao Beef - the beef was in strips, which was weird, and although it was very nicely tender it tasted way too much like Sysco beef for me to be able to stomach much of it. Veggie Chow Fun - totally bland. The noodles are fat fresh rice noodles, which I love, but there was no discernible sauce! Just a clear corn starch pudding over the veggies. Gross. Black Bean Tofu and Green Beans - the best of what we got, but still not a stand out. Also, there was a hair in it. I'm not one to make a fuss about hairs in food - I know accidents happen. But it seems to happen with some regularity at Chan's (if the reviews are to be believed). If someone else's DNA in your food skeeves you out, be warned. Overall, a total meh for us. We'll probably risk Double Happiness next time we are in the mood for Chinese takeout.

Above average American Chinese. Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either. The ingredients were fresh and the portions were out of control. You'll have no troubles sharing a meal easily between two people and maybe three depending on your appetites.

Chan's chinese is your typical american chinese style cuisine, except, better. The amount of food you get for your money, and the quality is far better than fast food places such as Mr Chow's or Panda Express. So while the food may not be as tasty as some very authentic cuisine, it's excellent value for the money, and you're guaranteed to have left overs for another meal.

Hands down the best crab rangoons/cheese wontons on the planet!! Their Mother's Chicken is a must try for all! I love this place, most certainly my favorite place to eat in Bend, OR.

Tried this place at recommendation of hotel front desk. Great choices on the menu which also accommodate gluten-free diet. Food was very good and very well priced. Restaurant was very clean and service excellent.

This place is hurtin! I had hair in my food the LAST time I ate there and the service was terrible. The party at the table next to us was disgusted too. I must admit, the portions are tremendous and so is the oil slick running out of them. If you want some good Chinese food, head just up the road to Red Dragon and if Eddie is cooking (from the old Eddie's Canton) all the better. Enjoy and Salute.

Chan's food is always good. We tried the new Black Pepper Chicken and it was great! Even the lady who runs the cash register is starting to smile! Good stuff.

I love Chinese food. I didn't love this place. We were visiting the in-laws and they know I love love love Chinese food, so they took us all to Chan's. The service was excellent. Everyone was nice, friendly and efficient. The food was not very flavorful at all. I really thought it was bland and unexciting. It is highly possible that I am spoiled when it comes to Chinese food....I mean, here in the SF Bay Area we are definately not lacking in the ability to aquire extra yummy Chinese food. The place was nice, so if we're in the area, I would probably go ahead and give it a second chance sometime in the future. More than likely though, I would check Yelp for another option. :)

I have been around the block a few times and Chan's is consistently the best Chinese food I have every had. Wonderful selection, great variety, very tasty and they will be very responsive to special requests. I have eaten at Chan's since before it was Chan's (Originally the China Ranch back in 1983 or '84 when Chan purchased it) and Chan himself pretty much did everything from seating you, taking your order, running into the back to cook it up and serving you with a smile. The Lunch specials cannot be beat for flavor, portions and value. Thanks Chan for almost 30 years of tasty food! You are truly an icon of Central Oregon's locally owned and operated businesses.

Local's favorite, the best Chinese food in Bend (which is not known for its Chinese food). I frequented this joint faithfully through the years, originally when it was called "China Ranch" and was a notorious bar that did good chinese food on the side, as a kind of afterthought. Funny place, I used to go dancing there, and they had the band roped off and protected at the front, with chicken wire, so when the bottles started flying, the band wouldn't get hurt. Seriously, there were some pretty regular bar fights there. The mill guys and lumberjacks were regulars and they know how to fight. Then Mr. and Mrs. Chan took it over and put the bar at the back, and focused on the food. The food is yummy and I used to head there for the $3.95 lunch specials, which were more than enough leftovers for the next 3 meals. If you be craving chinese, in bend, go and try chan's. I miss it. Anyone coming to SLC, bring me a sesame chicken, or fresh green beans in black bean sauce, ok? and as you enter, try to imagine that main dining room as a seedy, rough n tough beer bar with chicken wire around the band's platform.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
