As usual... I've passed this place a few times and today I stopped in the beautiful small town of Amity. It's a cute little barbecue place with the gravel parking lot and beautiful flowers planted around it. The interior is a lil rustic with log furniture and such. Vintage pictures on the walls. There are baskets of peanuts on the tables and it's A-okay to throw the shells on the floor. There are couple flatscreen TVs to watch while you're throwin down your barbecue. Outdoor seating in front and on the side of the building. I chose the combo with beef brisket and baby back ribs. This combo comes with a roll and your choice of one small side item as well as barbecue sauce for $16.95. I ordered an additional side item, the loaded mashed potatoes. The two girls working were very pleasant and I was the only customer. Everything is prepared and ready to go behind the counter so they just assembly-line it and it's ready to go in 5 minutes..... Fast! I'm a barbecue lover through and through and have tried barbecue all over the country. Smoked, dry rub, wet rub, saucy.... You name it, i've tried it. I really really wanted to love the food here but I didn't. The meats were served without sauces on them which is fine. The beef brisket was a bit dry, minimally seasoned and missing that smoky flavor. It came shredded and not sliced which could be the reason it dried out. The baby back ribs had no seasoning on them, no smoke ring or smoky flavor. The ribs weren't cooked enough because they weren't falling off the bone. Just cooked ribs with no flavor. Their barbecue sauces were quite good especially the spicy one though. The red potato salad was quite good as well is the loaded mashed potatoes. Both of these were home cooked and very delicious. As always.... I will try them again in the future and hope to revise this review to five stars. Maybe it was just a bad day. :-) 2015-74

Stopped by to try the brisket. Was disappointed with the lack of flavor. I guess if you drenched it in some sort of sauce it would add some flavor. But if you are looking to actually taste the meat then I would pass on the brisket. In my opinion it more resembled a boiled pot roast. The people were nice and the service was quick. It was kinda high priced. I would like to see a commercial refrigerator not a residential one. Surprised the health inspector lets them get away with it. I work in some of the best restaurants in Portland. If you want to taste good brisket, try Reverands BBQ in Sellwood.

I think I've tried everything on the menu and it's all really good, fast and friendly service too. There have been a couple times that I've looked forward to eating at Jack's only to see the dreaded closed sign during normal business hours... One of the downsides to a tiny restaurant in small town I guess, now I call ahead so I don't get my hopes up. Other than that I love this place!

It's not a bad little bbq place for a small town. It's spendy but that's what you get with barbecue so it's what I expected. The ribs were moist and fell off the bone, but the taste was a disappointment. I don't know enough about barbecue to know what was wrong, but they tasted overwhelmingly like ham. I love ribs, but I don't really like ham so I was disappointed. I had some of my wife's brisket, which I liked a lot better. It wasn't fatty and with a little sauce was really good. The sides were better than the main course for me- the loaded mash was GREAT. I do wish there was a mac and cheese option, but the macaroni salad wasn't bad at all. I would definitely like to see them replace the super market dinner rolls with some corn bread or Texas toast. It's a small dining area with just a few tables large enough for 4 adults, so take out might be a good option. But everyone there was really friendly and it had a nice family atmosphere.

I've eaten there twice since moving to the area once eat in and another time take out. Both times it was very good, quick service and a friendly atmosphere. I suggest the meal for 3. It really feeds 4+.

Super nice wait staff and excellent customer service. Great deals on sandwiches and other BBQ options. Would certainly come here again.

Came because it was listed as the best in the area. Sorry had the meat sampler and felt the Tri Tip was the best. Fair deal for the price but sadly didn't deserve more than a 3 star rating. Average flavor on all the meats. Did not like the sausage taste at all. Pepsi products.

Stopped by after a wine tasting trip. They advertised tri-tip as their special of the day. Apparently it's not on the regular menu, but they try to do it every Tuesday and Saturday. I ordered the tri-tip. It is fine. Just fine. In fact, I will be returning, that's how fine it is. The best surprise though was the BBQ sauce. They have regular (tasty, but boring) and a spicy BBQ. This "spicy" BBQ rocks. It's not ghost pepper craziness, but it is indeed hot and spicy. Joint was small but nice atmosphere. Employees were nothing but courteous. I go through this area frequently, and have actually gone out of my way now two more times to order from them. Good food, and GREAT portions. The loaded mash potatoes are a particular favorite. Assuming you like bacon. If you don't like bacon, then we have nothing more to talk about.

The restaurant is very tiny, but cozy. Great BBQ! Love the chicken wings and brisket with the spicy BBQ sauce. Great portion and left overs for the next day still taste yummy. Will definitely be back for more BBQ.

Only tried it once, but I'm going back. Took a meal home of pulled pork and Kielbasa sausage with the loaded mashed potatoes as a side. Yummeeee! I'm picky about my smoked pork ... prefer the smoky taste and not the BBQ sauce. This was some of the best. The potatoes were good too. Didn't need the roll, which was a basic storebought. I'm going to have to try something else next time. Lucky it's on my way home from Salem! The place is tiny ... so takeout is a good idea. They were very nice, service was prompt, and I could eat the whole peanuts while I waited ... and toss the shells on the floor.

We found Uncle Jack's in Amity today and became fans! I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was really good. The brisket looked fabulous -- all meat, almost no fat. I'll order that on my next visit. I thought the beans to be just okay but our riding partners thought they were great. The slaw was tasty and I'm told the mac salad was as well. Really good food, good service and friendly owner.

I can't say enough good things about Uncle Jack's BBQ. Friendly staff, fair prices, and GREAT barbeque! Worth the drive from Salem any day of the week.

Been there twice in the last 30 days. Spare Ribs are falling off the bone yummy (a bit salty, but tasty!), the half chicken was good too. Nice side sauces (spicy and regular). The BBQ beans were NOT runofthemill, and oh-so-good, and even had chunks of meat in them. Eat in or out, call ahead. They smoke/bbq the meat right there. Great portion sizes. Nice cozy place with historical photos on the walls and shell some peanuts while u wait. They do catering too. Help a great and local small business!

My husband and I are both huge fans of the pulled pork sandwich with the spicy barbecue sauce! We love the small town atmosphere and the quick service. My husband especially loves the basket of peanuts they provide at each table, but he especially like that they let you throw the shells on the floor!

Wish I could provide an actual review. I drove over 30 mind to try this place only to find it closed to attend a funeral.

My husband and I were out for a motorcycle ride yesterday and decided to stop here for lunch..I am very picky about my BBQ brisket and this was amazing...BBQ sauce, amazing, so simple, yet so yummy. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender. My husband had the chicken...yummers..we will be back and will highly recommend.

Overall good flavor. It is certainly not the same as true Texas BBQ, but it's definitely a good place to go in our small town! I love the tables, everything is made out of log furniture, very quick service which is great with kids. We ordered the Large BBQ platter and shared it. Everything was hot and the BBQ sauce was great, although a tad too sweet for me. They offer take out which works well considering it is such a small establishment. Loaded mashed potatoes were a little soupy, but the baked beans were awesome. There was enough left over to provide a second meal for my husband and I, so while the meal was $40 (with tip), we are eating twice from it.

During my exploration in this small town (hamlet?) called Amity, I came across this eatery. It is almost the only place in town to grab any bbq (ok the only place I have found, did I mention this is a small town?) The service was prompt, the food was good and served within minutes. The decor is rugged with peanuts on the table. I ordered the brisket with spicy BBQ sauce and it was spicy (i.e. very hot). I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this place. The only thing was it was a little on the pricy side for the portions but that is the price you pay in a small town where I suspect deliveries of food are expensive too. Three stars seemed fair, I would go back again to get a better feel for the other food products.

We got here late, just before they were closing and we were hungry.. They had ran out of almost everything that they made that day. We got some burnt ends, chicken, ribs and smoked prime rib.. All of the food was really good. We'll go back when the place isn't getting ready to close so we can try out their pulled pork and other tasty treats!

Brought my dad here since we came down here on vacation. There wasn't much of a choice on BBQ joints in the area. That being said when you walk In the dinning area was rustic with furniture made from trees. Traditional peanut shells on the floor.. my dad had the brisket and I had the brisket and ribs. The sides were good, but honestly I was kinda disappointed with the meat. The ribs we're moist and tender but there was not much flavor. They looked liked they were just partially smoked and then finished off in the oven. I'm a big bbq person and seeing ribs with no blackened crust from the rub and smoke was kinda off and it showed in the flavor. The sauces were pretty good. Loved the spicy. The brisket was the same as the ribs except it had more of a smoke ring to it but it was kinda tuff. I'm not saying this was the worse food I've had but definitely not the best.

I am from out of town, but I passed through Amity, OR, and heard about this homemade BBQ location. I was pretty hungry, and I love trying out local spots. BBQ happens to be my all-time favorite cuisine, and I was not disappointed by this place! I only give it 4 out of 5 stars because I only tried it one time, and I had no expectations of what it could serve. But I was very pleased, and I hope I get another chance to try it again!

I really liked this place and the food was really good. Classic, non-fancy barbecue in a casual environment.
