Best pizza ever, EVER!!! My daughter said it was good she was wrong! Best I have ever had anywhere. You must try if you get within 50 miles of Tahlequah OK.

Very good pizza!!! We come here all the time. The artiwrap is delicious as is the new artipie!!!! The only negative thing is sometime it can take a while to get your food. But trust me it's definitely worth it! If you're in Tahlequah it's a great spot!!!!

The Arti Bread was excellent and the Pizzas were to die for! The staff at the Holiday Inn express told us about this place and we were more than satisfied with the food and the great service!

Yummy pizza - love the crust! The reason I couldn't give this place 5 stars is that it was too dirty for my liking. The floor had a lot of trash on it that should've been swept up in between customers and the tables and seats weren't wiped down very well. Even though the food was tasty, I couldn't fully enjoy myself in that environment. Another con is that they frequently run out of menu items --- like one time they ran out of cheese and couldn't serve pizzas or another time they ran out of mushrooms so we couldn't order the mushroom cap appetizer. boo! On the plus side, our server was very friendly!

Awesome super cheesy pizza. Get the Arti Toast! Try a "the Hot One!" Lots of chickens everywhere to look at, and the pizza is amazing. A large will easily feed 5 people.

Love the different varieties of pizza. Haven't had the opportunity to try them all (wife and I trying a different one every week) but my favorites, so far, are the Supreme and the Rock Island Red.

Very rude staff . Very rude manager . I have been here many times over the years . My last experience was pretty sad . I called to talk to manager about a pizza being smashed in a box . I could hear the girl on phone taking to manager saying blah blah . Manager was extremely rude and hung up on me . I will never eat there again .

Ate here after reading about it in usa today, that was a few years ago, love the pizza especially the Hawaiian. Would recommend calling in or taking a stoll through old town Tahlequah while you wait.

Very lively atmosphere. Staff is very attentive. Surprised that wings were not on the menu given its name. Ordered the house salad and a small pizza. Very generous portions. The salad was very fresh and was able to split it with my wife and we could not finish it. The small pizza had six slices. Pepperoni and sausage. The crust was very light. A lot of cheese. Next time I would request less cheese. Very good and would recommend.

THE SERVICE -- A HEART-WARMING STORY My two roadtrip companions and I were driving by Talequah on a Saturday evening and decided to stop at Sam and Ella's based on the reviews here. We wanted a beer too, so we hoped there would be beer. Although there were tables open when we arrived, we were told that the wait for food would be about an hour, so at that point, we REALLY hoped there would be beer. But there wasn't, so when the waiter came to our table, we asked if we could bring our own beer inside. He said no, but looked really disappointed on our behalf, and we must have looked really disappointed too, because he put his thinking cap on, and after a few moments of considering the options, hit on a solution: We could go to a bar two blocks down the street, and he would bring us our pizza when it was ready. (They don't generally do delivery.) Yes, it's a nice bar, he assured us. They have Harp on tap. So we went to the bar, and it was VERY nice (see review for Granny's Attic), and he brought us our pizza in about half an hour (much less time than we'd counted on), and we were very happy and very grateful. THE PIZZA -- A STOMACH-WARMNG STORY The pizza here was very good. Better than you have any right to expect while randomly driving through eastern Oklahoma. Just don't expect it to be Sicilian style, New York style, Chicago style, or any other style recognized by pizza afficianados. No, this is American-small-town-homemade-style, which is not a criticism because it is a style that I grew up with and am fond of. The crust is basically good homemade bread. The sauce is spicy and deep-flavored. The toppings are all high-quality and full-flavored, and piled together in crazy heaps of delicious. The whole thing is made with care and creativity.

Killa pizza! Just had pizza and it was perfect. We will be back when in the area. You cannot go wrong here. This is the real deal!

Pizza place with Chicken motif. But Mom chose the side salad and yard bird. I ordered the Chicken salad. Coke products (sad face). Good atmosphere, good music. This is a set down place .

Some of the best pizza I've had! I got the Big & Sloppy pizza but added bell pepper instead of black olives. This pizza was enormous! I brought half of it home and it reheated nicely for breakfast the next morning! Great downtown location, fun country atmosphere, excellent pizza! Stop if you're in the area!

If you happen to be in Tahlequah then eat at Sam and Ella's ( sounds like salmonella) it has to be the best pizza I've ever eaten. We tried the ArtiWrap which was just ooey gooey cheesy goodness. I had the dill pickle pie which sound nasty but was delicious with chicken, dill pickles, cheese and a creamy ranch base. The atmosphere is a little cheesy with all the chickens but there is a large spatula with the name Carrie on it. Carrie Underwood worked here before she made it big so that's a fun fact. They are a little slow but if you're sitting around visiting with friends or family and have time to wait you won't be disappointed in these magnificent pizza pies!

Had the meatza pizza. OMG!! This pizza is the bomb!! Tastes great...airy and chewy crust with a crunch. I don't know how they do it...but it's amazing!! My first time...I'll be back!

What can I say about sam an ellas, but they have the very best salads in the world ! The restaurant is very cute the staff is great the prices are reasonable. But I am not a fan of thick crust pizza . My family thought it was good. It is very filling the topings are fresh I just myself personally do not care for the crust. Now the salads I absolutely loved not just a iceberg type with 2 slices of cucumber or a few tomatoes. They have a full garden in it. And they aren't small.

  • Chasity R.

Pretty good pizza. Sauce is a little sweet. :) we made our own which was pineapple and mushrooms. Next time we will try one of their specialties.

    (5)
  • Donna H.

Second try for a hot pizza was unsuccessful. I don't understand why they let the pizza sit and loose the hot goodness. They have the best pizza in the state, but it has to be served right out of the oven! I am disappointed after the 1 1/2 hr drive to pizza land.

The restaurant has spectacular pizza!! The decor makes dining in interesting in addition to the delicious pizza. Ordering to go is fast and easy. The pizza is just as good. I have even ordered pizza and refrigerated it immediately to transport back to Illinois where it was delicious reheated!

Such a great place! The atmosphere is very quaint and vintage, and the staff was friendly and efficient. The pizza is truly to die for. My partner and I ordered a small and it came with eight slices on thick delicious crust. We ordered the Dominiquer... very tastey! I will definitely be returning to try a different pizza the next time I'm in Tahlequah.

The name of this place is hysterical and only made better by the fact that they don't even really serve chicken. They are a pizza place. I love the creativity and sense of humor. The decor is fantastic. Everything is a chicken. Roosters and hens everywhere. Pretty cute. The pizza is actually really good. I love the crust, perfect amount of sauce and the toppings are fair and generous. I was shocked when I saw the small side salad was $5 but when it came out, I understood. It was a salad that would be enough for a meal for most people. It had a ton of veggies on it, a generous amount of shredded cheese and it wasn't full of the core of crappy iceberg lettuce. It was mostly comprised of spinach leaves. It was the best side salad I've had. I still wish they had a smaller and cheaper option though. Neat place, a little on the small side, good food, good service and great sense of humor. I dig it.

The name of this place is the best...gotta love the play on words. The pizza was pretty good...lots of toppings and cheese. The bread and mushrooms cam recommended. A bit to cheesy/greasy for me. My favorite part about this place was the atmosphere and decor. The rooster and hen decor is over the top, but that's what makes it so entertaining. Good for me to try once...not sure if I'll ever get back there again.

FAMOUS FOR: - Pizza (crust) BUZZ - Arti Mushroom Caps (8/10) I TRIED - Big & Sloppy Pizza (4/10) I have to be a little careful about this review. There's a whole town, and a college, with mad respect for this place, and here's me, Devil From The City, coming down all snobby. Yeah well, it is what it is... I have to admit, coming to this town, I was in a real bind as to what to eat. I always want to go where the locals go. I always want to go to places that are well known to bring my own take on where the hype is. Only thing I could find in the area were chain restaurants, and Yelp was very quiet about all the other places (1 review or less mostly). So, with a suggestion from a local, and topping the "Most Reviewed" in the area with 18 reviews (most with high esteem), I decided to check this place out. I wasn't really in the mood for pizza, but you know what they say, "When in Tahlequah..." Just a quick note to those who are discovering Tahlequah and Sam & Ella's for the first time: 1) Yes, it's a play on sounds to sound like salmonella. Why they'd choose to bank on this? I dunno, but it is clever! 2) They do not serve chicken here (except what may be on a pizza). MUSHROOM CAPS These are the definitely the buzz, and I can see why! These are basically just the tops of the mushrooms (caps), that are filled with spinach artichoke dip, then covered in mozzarella cheese, melted, and baked. Since both mozzarella and mushrooms have sort of a bland flavor (albeit very noticeable) and also not a lot of seasoning, it's up to the spinach artichoke mixture to really provide all of that. And you know what? It delivers! The mixture is very nice and garlicky, and full of flavor. Seasoning by itself would probably be too salty, but mixed with the mozz and mushrooms, it balances beautifully! However, as wonderful as this tastes when everything is so gooey and warm, when it chills a little, and the cheese hardens, it does lose some taste points. BIG & SLOPPY PIZZA I made a huge mistake in ordering this. While I absolutely need mozzarella cheese on a pizza, I don't like too much of it, but this pizza, was basically encased in it! This pizza, if I remember the menu correctly, is marinara, cheese, pepperoni, black olives, double layer of cheese, and then more pepperoni and black olives. The pepperoni definitely stood out and took a decent amount of focus, which I like. The olives were ok, if not a little out of place. But the mozzarella cheese was just too thick and too much. Like the caps, once the cheese cools and hardens a little, it turns into a brick of cheese... no fun. I will say this, though, the marinara was spot on. It had the perfect amount of seasoning and flavor to still shine underneath all that cheese without being overly spicy. The crust is what everyone's raving about. Under the pizza, that's fine, it adds a little crisp, but the outer crust itself was huge and yeasty. I made a mistake in finishing off the crust on my first bite, but all that did was make me more full. The crust itself didn't have enough flavor or seasoning to really make it worthwhile. I'm going to have to disagree with the crowd on this one. OVER & HYPED Sorry to say, the pizza was just ok. What can I say, I'm from Chicago, my pizza expectations are pretty high. If I went to school here, I can see myself getting the pizza often. I went to school in Chicago, and you can't afford to get Lou Malnati's every time you have a pizza crave on a college budget. No, we got all the cheap stuff just like every other college student, and believe me, I've had much worse than this in college...multiple times! Also, as for a non-Chicago or NY pizza, this would have a very long way to go to match My Pie Pizza in Portland, OR.

I found this place to eat on Yelp and came expecting to get some good chicken (obviously I didn't read far.) Hint, they don't serve chicken, with or without salmonella. The pizza was fresh with a nice sauce. I enjoyed the meal and will come back at some point when in town.

  • Amanda K.

Very disappointed. Called to order carry out and the girl asked us to hold...30 mins later, we are STILL waiting for her to come back to the phone. If you're THAT busy on a Friday night, here's a tip: don't hire college students to answer the phones.

You took the definition of "pie" too far. Location for Tahlequah'ians: 5 stars One of the rare cool spots for this bible town: 5 stars Do they serve wine or beer? Nope. In fact, Oklahoma has some pretty strict prohibition laws. Wine is equal to liquor and cannot be sold in supermarkets or in restaurants on Sunday...At least this is what Tahlequah told us.

Sam & Ella's and NO chicken? What?? I came here knowing that it was a pizza place but I thought they might have at least some fried chicken for shits and giggles. Nope. I had the arty toast which was phenomenal and the Big & Sloppy pizza. Amazing! This and Joe Momma's pizza in downtown Tulsa are my top two favorites! The sauce on the pizza was just right and the crust was awesome. Service was great, food was amazing, and the price wasn't bad at all. Got a drink, one water, an app, and a pizza for right at $20. Yeah, INSANE! :D

This is not pizza; it is a small little slice of heaven smothered in cheese, covered with a ton of toppings and placed on some of the best brick oven crust I've ever eaten. I stuttered for three days after I ate their Arti-toast, it was that good.

Best pizza in the world! The rock island red is my fave- pineapple, mushroom and ham! And the arty toast is to die for. The decor is fun and funky, and the food is phenomal and unique. I have occasionally had poor service from the waitstaff, but not enough to sway my opinion on the restaurant as a whole- love this place!

Seriously - some of the best pizza I have ever had. We stopped in for lunch and it was packed - no seating available. No problem, we walked down the street and had lunch somewhere else and returned for dinner. If you are in Tahlequah - you can't miss this place. The crust is nice and chewy without being all dough. We took home the leftovers and put them in an ice chest to keep cool all the way to Houston. Heated it up the next morning (yep, for breakfast) in the oven - almost as good. I couldn't believe it was still so good. Waitress was awesome - gave me the rundown on the history of the place. They don't serve chicken. Apparently the owners mother collected chicken stuff and after she passed, he used all her decor to decorate the restaurant. (Hence the name - sounds like Salmonella). If you go - don't be in a hurry. It is a smallish place with a smallish oven so they can only cook so much at a time. But you will find it is worth the wait.

There aren't enough stars for this place! It is waaaaay off the scale! You absolutely must eat here! It is the absolute best pizza you will ever have in your life, and I've eaten at some of the places on the travel channel's top 10 pizza places. A few years back, when I went to Wichita to meet some relatives I have never met before, when I mentioned Tahlequah, they immediately lit up and said "Sam & Ella's." It turned out that they had made several trips from Wichita to Tahlequah for the sole purpose of eating @ Sam & Ella's. And yes, it is worth the trip. A little fun trivia: Ella, before she married Sam was Ella Coli (E-Coli). But not to fear there is still an E-Coli in the food buisiness. Accross the street and a block down, is a Burrito place run by her brother, Ernie Coli.

I love the pizza here. The crust is great, the toppings are fresh, and lots of cheese. A small will feed to people and you'll probably still have a piece or two to take home. The Artie toast and mushroom caps are amazing. The Artie wrap is also absolutely delicious, don't let the name mislead you though, it's more of a cheesy, artichoke spinach calizone than it is a wrap. The Rock Island Red (they're specialty pizzas are named after chicken breeds) is my personal favorite with the Dominiquer coming in at a close second.

  • Kasey G.

Diners Drive-Ins and Dives needs to come here!! Guy Fieri I hope you read the reviews for this place. This is the best pizza I have ever had! I love their crust and the marinara sauce OMG! The only negative is that it is sometimes pretty slow but I guess brilliance takes time. Any pizza pie here is good... I mean it. The Sam and Ellas is a play on Samonella the bacteria stuff you can get from chicken... a pretty funny joke if you ask me. The interior is plastered wall to wall with chicken stuff.

Love the name! A little tongue and cheek is always a good form of advertisement. We had 3 options to give this place a true review. We had a salad, Caps, and a medium Sunrise pizza. The salad was one of the best salads my wife and I have ate in a long time. The caps where creamy, delicious and hot but they would have been better if was serve with a side of bread. The pizza was covered in fresh veggies, the feta cheese made the pizza so much better than your normal mozzarella cheese. The only thing I could chose to make it better was to remove the sun-dried tomatoes, since it had a nice sauce on it made it a little strong. The atmosphere is chicken, chicken and chicken on everything. In a college town would like to see a little more hip style and see a get rid of some the older pieces. Getting an alcohol service would make this place even better. Again the salad was the best part of our meal. Will be back to try this out again.

I found this place to eat on Yelp and came expecting to get some good chicken (obviously I didn't read far.) Hint, they don't serve chicken, with or without salmonella. The pizza was fresh with a nice sauce. I enjoyed the meal and will come back at some point when in town.

Pizza place with Chicken motif. But Mom chose the side salad and yard bird. I ordered the Chicken salad. Coke products (sad face). Good atmosphere, good music. This is a set down place .
