Living in Vail, CO with it's tons of great restaurants EXCEPT Tex-Mex (don't eat at any mexican restaurant in the Vail Valley because there isn't a single good one), I found myself back in Duncan to visit family. They took us to La Fiesta for lunch. I wasn't expecting to walk out of there with any good feeling other than my hunger was stifled for a few hours. Yet, after tasting the fresh salsa and chips, I had hope. Both were really tasty, fresh and had all the right ingredients of a good Tex-Mex joint I'd come to know and love living in Dallas for so many years. Then, our entrees arrived. It wasn't an over-the-top presentation (like many Tex-Mex joints desperately substituting presentation over quality of food), but after one bite, I knew this was a very pleasant surprise. And an excellent choice by my family hosts. I'll be making La Fiesta a regular stop when I'm back in Duncan, USA...and bringing my friends.

All those people that worry about the end of the world should move to Duncan, OK. If you reside here you already know exactly what it's going to be like and I was stuck here for two days on business! So I asked my trusty Yelp Mobile App for the highest rated restaurant in town and these folks popped up with four stars. Then I asked for the most reviewed restaurant in town and they popped up again. So what's the problem you ask? Well the place only has six reviews and the most recent one is dated 2011! I guess you can tell that Duncan is not a hotbed of Yelp activity. So off I went for my supposedly four star meal. My hotel told me that these folks were down the street behind the mall. I found this sad little collection of stores that only folks from Duncan would call a mall. Behind this so called mall, back where the dumpsters are located, is the main entrance for this place. I walked in a 4:45 on a mid-week evening and I thought for a moment the place was closed. It was completely empty. Not a single table or seat at the small bar was occupied. So I sat at the bar and a bartender/waiter quickly appeared. He made me a MARGARITA for about $6 and it was acceptable. I was also served free chips and salsa. While I sipped I examined my environment and it was a typical Mexican joint with a little bit of that dive bar feel. I perused the menu and it was just like a thousand other Mexican menus I've seen. I ordered the JALISCO SPECIAL for $9.29. It included a chalupa, chile relleno, beef taco, tamale, and enchilada, and was served with Mexican rice and beans. It was served quickly and once again it was acceptable. Throughout my entire meal I was the only guest. It was a 2 1/2 star experience for me so they get 3.

Had dinner here the other night while in town. I liked it but it pretty much was the same as every other Mexican restaurant I've visited. Service was very good and the food was what I expected. Certainly would eat here again when I'm back in town.

Aside from my girlfriend residing in Duncan, OK for Nursing School at OU I now have another reason to come to the area..... La Fiesta! I"m from Houston... home of 1,000+ taquerias and Mexican restaurants. I've wined and dined at so many of them that I'd say I have a special knack now at distinguishing ingredients, the quality of the ingredients, and the intended flavor of many dishes. Well... I thought to myself .. Hmmm... in Duncan, OK? A Mexican restaurant? I was thinking only thing was Fried Pies, Sonics, mom and pops burger joints and diners, along with fast food restaurants. Ok. Sure why not lets give it a shot. So we did. I was in love. It was real deal Mexican. I seriously loved their extensive menu but the fact that I tried various dishes on the multiple visits they have been consistently great in the quality and taste of the dishes. I have yet to try anything bad. The only complaint that came from a meal one night at the location was from my GF who didn't care for the quesadillas to much but her idea of quesadilla is from Taco Hell so its not saying much. The staff was nice. The drinks were strong and delicious. The sopapilla was so friggin yummy. The chips were crunchy and the salsa was fresh. The restaurant is pretty big and nicely decorated. It is located in a pretty run-down and bankrupt looking mall but thats ok because the cash cow of this plaza/mall is La Fiesta! and they've managed to create their own private oasis away from the dull and boring vibe of the interior of the mall. I've heard of two other Mexican restaurants in the area but this is allegedly the best and honestly I don't care to go to the others to find out. As of now I'm happy and think it'll be hard for the others to compare to the taste of La Fiesta in Duncan, OK. I'll list what I had from the venue that I was ecstatic about. The Pastor tacos offered on corn or flour tortillas. Colorado dish Tamales Cheese enchiladas Sauteed beef tips in spicy sauce Sopapila Queso with meat N-Joi!!!!!!!

This place was great. The decor is basic but the service was superb, the food definitely had a home-cooked taste to it, so I'm guessing that someone's abuela or tia was in the back stirring up a pot. Located directly across the street from our hotel we ventured in here several times. The food was really good, rice and beans were up to par, and I absolutely died and went to heaven when I had their Carnita plate, which was basically Carnita meat, rice and beans...3 of my fave things on one plate...talk about heaven in my mouth. The margaritas were tasty yet strong which is just the way I like them, and I always left there with my happy lunch time buzz which I totally love. If I'm ever back in the boons of Duncan, OK I will be all over La Fiesta again.

Actually, this restaurant HASN'T burned down twice. It was Don Jose's. I recommend staying away from Don Jose's. La Fiesta is pretty good for the price.

This is a great place to eat and has great salsa...don't know why my other post got on here. It was meant for another local Mexican food place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
