Excellent service, excellent food, large portions, very friendly. We had the steak and the catfish. I'm not sure how they charged us for the items but it sure seemed like our coconut pie was free. It's a worthy stop along Route 66!

I was told by a friend of mine to go and try Mattie's in Claremore, OK. I am SO glad that I did! As I walked into the door I was met by a very nice server. She got me seated quickly and I informed her that I love to eat at new locations and wanted to know what would WOW me. She said it would either be the steaks or the catfish. Well at $7.99 for the catfish lunch, which included mashed potatoes with gravy, carrots, side salad, and Texas toast, sold me. My server brought out my salad first. It was fresh and the iceberg lettuce was shredded and made it easy to consume with little effort. The house dressing was good and I had enough to finish the salad. When the catfish arrived a few mins later, I was impressed with several things. First the crust on the fish was thin and crispy, this allowed for the full flavor of the fish to come out in EVERY bite. Secondly the fish taste SO FRESH, I could tell immediately that the fish was never frozen. The third thing that impressed me was that the fish was so clean tasting. This was either farm raised blue or channel cat. This was very good! I can't wait to eat it again! The mashed potatoes were good as well and you could tell that they were freshly mashed and just went well with the fish, not over seasoned and the gravy complimented them well. Now the bad news, the reason that I can not give this very good restaurant 5 stars is because, the carrots were canned :( I could tell immediately and when I asked the server she confirmed it. They were seasoned well in a sweet glaze and a hint of salt, but the canned flavor overtook everything else. Now, to end this on a good note, if you go to Mattie's not only do you have to try the catfish, you HAVE TO get a slice of pie! I ordered the German Chocolate Pie and it was very good! The crust was flakey and buttery, the chocolate was smooth and creamy and the mini chocolate chips along with the shredded coconut took this pie to another level of goodness! Overall I will visit again! Mattie's is worth a stop in and you will not be sorry.

Place is not to bad. Don't come here for steak. We had the ribeye and and chicken fried chicken. The chicken and potatoes were pretty good. The steak was not desirable by any means. They serve hominy with the meals. It taste like farm. I'd eat here again if I was on my way by.

The pies are the absolute best. We had the peanut butter chocolate and the banana cream. It is worth it just for the pies alone. However, and this is why it is getting a three rating, the Chicken fried steak was undercooked and you could taste flour. The ribeye was ordered medium and came out well done. Service was excellent and waitresses were attentive.

Charming little country steakhouse, north of Claremore and Sequoyah (almost to Foyil) on Route 66. When you enter, a bunch of older wonderful "grandma" like waitresses come to greet and seat you. We had baby in tow, and they were more than gracious to give him a complimentary applesauce and green beans with mashed potatoes to keep him from screaming :) My husband had the ribeye, and I had the surf and turf. My sister had the chicken fried steak. All were delicious and served with Texas toast, green beans, salad, and my plate also came with a loaded baked potato (and they don't skimp on the butter and sour cream!) Very pleasing service, and good food. Prices are not bad at all. The homemade pies are definitely worth a try, although my cobbler was a little disappointing. My husband got the peanut butter chocolate pie and ate it in one sitting. He normally doesn't eat sweets :) Overall, a charm of a steakhouse in the middle of nowhere. Come try it!
