Yes, the service is a bit slow, but you're also at an airport. Our waitress was very friendly, and probably a bit overwhelmed with the lunch crowd rushing in on a Monday afternoon. That being said, the food was pretty good, with tortilla soup being great. The rest of our meal was just average, but I can't complain too much as I ordered half a sandwich with salad and got the full sandwich for free. I probably would have given 4 stars due to friendliness of staff until it took 15 minutes to get attention of anyone to get our check. Still overall a decent place to eat when stuck at the airport...

Service D Food C Atmosphere D I gave it a D for atmosphere because no one will answer the annoying phone ringing often behind the bar but chiming across the restaurant. Service virtually non-existent unless you get up from your table and ask. This was on a not busy Sunday evening with 2 waitresses and a bartender. 4 people at the bar, 4 tables in the restaurant I will pack dinner next time I hit this airport.

This restaurant offers a lot of variety in food. You can get burgers to fish n' chips to chili. Service is pretty good and it's tucked away, so there isn't a stream of travelers walking by as you are eating. There's a large window where you can chill with your food and watch the planes.

Waitress for our lunch was awesome, so sweet and helpful. We had lunch here while killing 13 hours in the airport. Food was tasty.

Sub par. Greasy breakfast. Limp bacon. But fresh fruit was decent. The waitress was nice enough but when I requested egg whites only, she wasn't sure the COOK know how to separate eggs!!

No service. Dirty tables. We sat next to the kitchen. In 20 min. not one of the five servers asked if we had been helped. They looked to be wandering around. When they finally started asking other people that arrived after us If they had been helped we walked out.

For Dayton, it's a pretty average place. Ordered an old fashioned and it was not good, but the bartender made us new drinks. ELISHA IS AWESOME. She was our server and she was fun, and took care of us. I recommend max and ermas in the Dayton airport if you have a group of friends that want to have a good time while waiting for a flight!

Sitting near the window right now. As I gaze over the dining area, I get a great view of all the food others have ate here throughout the day... not because it is on the tables; but rather, because it is littered underneith all of the tables. This place is in a serious need of cleaning and makes me regret that I wore sandals today. Wait staff is lathargic and specialize in taking thier time. If you want your order taken in less than 30 mins inside of an empty restraunt, you better go some place else.

As we stepped over the ice cubes from another table's spilled drink on our way out, I remembered the words that greeted us from our server's orange Cincinnati Bengals tee: Welcome to the Jungle. It's a very casual jungle, at least on a Sunday afternoon. If you get a backhand sweeping motion duet from a female TSA agent, you might be ready for a shower, or a drink. Max & Erma's is the first place you'll see after your hands-up, thrill-a-minute stroll through security. There is a bar area as well as a dining area with windows that provide a view of airplanes making their way to and from the gates. You'll find televisions in the dining area and a few outlets available for recharging. My hubby and I seated ourselves near an outlet in the dining area, plugged in, then perused the menu. It was just a few minutes before 5 pm and we had about 40 minutes before our next flight would begin boarding. We decided on a couple of lunch specials available until 5 pm which we thought should be fairly quick: one Dynamic Duo special and one Tasty Twosome special. This meant 2 Caesar salads, soup of the day, and a half club sandwich, ($17). Minimal prep time and the restaurant was nearly empty so it seemed reasonable that we could eat and be on our merry way in around 30 minutes. Our salads came out in less than 10 minutes, the soup and half club arrived approximately 30 minutes after we initially placed our order. Slow? For a half sandwich, cup of soup, and two salads, yes. We heard our server in the kitchen tell someone after 25 minutes that it was just a half sandwich. The Caesar salad was tasty and included shredded cheese and croutons. The tortilla soup was cheesy, spicy, and tasty. The Dynamic Duo was about as enjoyable as the Backhand Sweeping Motion Duet from the TSA lady and I don't recommend it. The Stacked to the Max club menu description indicated 3 layers of white toast. The Half, however, was only half of this club with 2 layers: one half slice of white toast on the top and the other half on the bottom, not 3 layers as described on the menu. The tomato was ripe and tasty but the sandwich, even considering that it was only half, was not what I would call "Stacked to the Max." Deli meat, iceberg lettuce, and a tomato slice between two halves of white bread. Tasty, but not worth a 30 minute wait. Not sure how long it would have taken if it had been busier or if we ordered something that actually needed to be cooked. Both servers were friendly and seemed to be working well together. The other server in a black polo shirt cleared a plate from our table as she made her way back to the kitchen. We asked our Bengals fan server for the check when our soup and half sandwich arrived and she brought it to us within a few minutes. Overall, the food was decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at this jungle again even if it's just for a drink after a Backhand Sweeping Motion Duet from a TSA agent.

A security officer in the airport clued me I that this is the best sit down place to work while eating. I got a roomy booth and was able to power up my laptop, talk on the phone, and eat a great lunch. I had the burger with American and cheddar cheese and extra lettuce. I am sad to report that I ate the whole thing! It was very good. Side salad a little wimpy. I got the greens with roasted tomatoes. The balsamic dressing was good. Overall a great airport meal and atmosphere to work.

Terrible service and food was cold. Better off stopping at McDonalds on the way to the airport.

I don't know if it was because we were hungry or what, but the breakfast here was amazing. As we waited for them to open, we were nicely greeted by Kimberly who was also our server. She took very good care of us and I like the fact that even at 5am, Kimberly offered us great service. The price here is good considering we are in the airport. The breakfast plates are nicely combined. I will Def come back :)

I could see where they could be slow. I actually told the waitress I was in a hurry because of yelp reviews and she busted her butt to get me out. In all 25 minutes to order eat and pay. The meal was what to expect from an airport and overall I was satisfied.

  • Nick S.

Horrible service here, been sitting here for over 30 minutes, haven't seen the waiter, in dire need of a refill and would love To know where the food is considering there is only three other people here. One guy just walked out after waiting 40 minutes for a drink! I had ordered a wild berry lemonade and when the server brought it out said it was watermelon and when I said I had ordered a wild berry she just say oh it is, and then yelled right next to my war to another waiter asking if it was the right lemonade, which on the end tasted like watermelon and had to waive down a separate sever so I could get a coke.

Reco: Find a place to eat BEFORE arriving to the airport. I got the Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich-- comparing what I got vs what was depicted in the menu-- complete rip off. The basil was NOT fresh, the mozzarella was used sparingly and the tomato basil spread was so salty you'll be lucky if you don't walk out with high blood pressure. Save your $$. This low rating one star is a shout out to my waitress who was nice and attentive.. but I rather reserve my hunger for a more deserving place next time.

  • Rachel C.

Horrible service here today. Instructed to seat myself and wasn't approached by a waiter for ten minutes. My requests were met with "just another couple minutes response". It took about a half hour to get a salad and nachos. At an airport that's even more irritating because you're trying to catch a flight. Food was mediocre. Nachos were over cooked.

I cannot believe how bad the service is at this location. I had to wait over 20 minutes for our order to be taken at this airport location. Uh.... Service is this bad at an airport restaurant! The food was mediocre.

Slow service, bland food, cold fries, stale beer, but big windows if you like watching planes taxi out. Go elsewhere.

Maybe it's because I'm a nice guy or maybe I'm just lucky. I've visited here multiple times and have had no problems. * Each time I have sat at the bar and the service has been just fine. * Each time I ordered the Ragin' Cajun Burger and it was cooked to order, juicy and tasty. * Each time the fries were hot and fresh. * Each time my adult libations were fine. * Each time I paid airport prices which were totally expected. * Each time it took a little extra time to pay which was slightly annoying but no big deal. When I visit the airport again I'll stop back here again!

$11 Burgers are meh... meat is ok, bun is dry and crumbles as you try to eat it, bug chunks of white lettuce which just fall out, but the pretzels and service are really good...

I'm afraid this one's dreadful. I know Max & Erma's. I've been to several of their legit (i.e., not in airport) locations, and I generally think they're decent for a TGI-Ruby-Applebee's-style chain. But THIS location is terrible. I've been here several times. During a recent visit, I chose a grilled chicken caesar salad - should be a safe choice, right? Well, not so much. The chicken was so overcooked and dried up, I could not discern it from the croutons! The chili was decent. Service was equally abhorrent. Our server-dude did not write anything down as we ordered. Was he trying to show off, like he used to be a big-time water at a fancy joint in Manhattan? Dude, we're in the DAYTON AIRPORT, please just write it down! ...And he got it wrong. Brought me the wrong soup. "Oh yeah, you had the chili..." But the worst part was the WAIT TO PAY. Dude, guess what? Everybody at the airport has a plane to catch! We all have to go when we have to go! This should not be a surprise. But, no, dude is nowhere to be found with the check. I'm not one to dine-and-dash, but I was tempted. Finally, in desperation, I got up and started walking toward the bar, figuring I could somehow pay the bartender, when dude reappears. He was being trailed by THREE other diners, credit cards in hand, also waiting to pay. So, unfortunately, Dayton's only sit-down restaurant is wrecked beyond all recognition.

I used this restaurant at Dayton Airport on the way back to NY last month(Feb 2014) and waiting too long to order and later found out the credit card statement that tipping amount was manipulated by $0.50 although 20% tip was given. Many other guests were ignored and will not come back again although food was ok.

Someone needs to tell the people who work here that they are working in a SERVICE industry. And they are serving people in an AIRPORT. This is by far the worst service I think I have ever encountered. People are leaving without getting their food. Also the place smells like rotten eggs. This place is filthy to boot. What a disaster. Stay away.

Ew. Shoulda gone to chikfila. I got the burger and it was cold and chewy. The stella artois was flat. Usually one believes that a sit down restaurant is better than fast food, but that's not case here. Plus the service is really really slow

The airport isn't that big so the food/beverage options are limited. Since this was the closest to our gate (actually to all gates) we settled in and just had a few drinks prior to getting on our "as always" delayed flight to Newark....ugh! Their menu options aren't extensive but we did sample their chicken fingers (actually pretty good...not too much breading and tasted fresh) and their wings (big, plump and again actually very good). The service was good as well. They did walk around with sample stuff as well which is always a welcomed treat.

I've been to this location many times as it's the only sit down restaurant in this airport that I'm aware of. Service is routinely slow, and the last two visits (I know why did I go back) I walked out because I was never served after sitting for close to 10 minutes. Servers walk around and will not make eye contact, and when I asked for the manager the second time they said they had to call him... So the problem may be evident but I will not be spending my clients money there.

If your flight departs within an hour of entering this restaurant, don't consider eating here. On top of AWFULLY slow service, nasty waiters and bad food you'll also encounter a dirty eating space.

Not that folks are going to read a review before going to an airport restaurant, but here was my lack luster experience anyway... Service- 1 star Food- 2 stars Atmosphere- 3 stars The service was the worst I've experienced in an airport. Most airport restaurants realize that many people do not have a lot of time when in the midst of traveling. I seated myself (as was instructed by the sign) at 2:23. I wasn't greeted by anyone until 10 minutes later. Servers passed me, there was a family sitting across from me, and the place was not that busy. When someone did come to me, my order was taken. I ordered the shrimp salad and a side of fries. I received my drink a few minutes later and my fries over ten minutes after that. My salad didn't come until about 15 minutes after I received my fries. The salad looked good, but was so spicy I couldn't eat it- and I like spicy food. Of course, no one came to check on me or refill my drink that was long gone (thanks to the overly spicy food). I had to ask the bar tender to track down my server because it was now 45 minutes after my arrival and I had a flight to catch. My server was located, could see that I didn't eat my salad, and still didn't bother to ask how my food was. I would have been forward and told him what was wrong with my salad, but who knows how long it would have been waiting to have it taken off the bill. Like I said, I had a flight to catch. I'll be sure to skip Max & Erma's next time I travel through Dayton.

I don't know if anything changed in the place since the bad reviews, but I had a decent experience there about a week ago. Turkey avocado burger was good, waitress was super nice and everything was fast although the restaurant was sort of busy. Good by airport standards.

The wait was long compared to other airport restaurants. The food was nothing special either. The staff was friendly and apologetic which softens things but not enough to have me return any time soon.

One of those rare times I get to write the review while still sitting here at the establishments. The 2 one-star ratings ought to have scared me away, I suppose, but I believe in second chances (and thirds...) I was promptly seated, order quickly and pleasantly taken. Price is actually very good for an airport sit-down. I had the chicken santa fe salad, lunch size, for $8. It was probably just a little on the light side, especially the less than half a chicken breast that's sliced and placed on top. But the chicken and strips of taco chips were hot, the accompanying bread stick warm and tasty, and the salad fresh. The chicken, small portion as it was, had some taste to it. But I HATE airport menus that have no prices on the beer/drinks. Even when I asked my waitress what the price was, she just gave me a very broad range. As it turns out, a 14 oz. Sam was $6. A bit steep. That's what takes one star away. I'm going to write this Erik Sprungman dude to complain about the price-less beer menu though. A word to the wise: if you're on a first date or something, DON'T order a santa fe salad, or anything that has taco chip strips in it. Those things tend to go sideways into your mouth, smearing with its entry salad dressing. Not a very kissable picture while you try to make conversation and sweet-talk.

I understand you're an airport restaurant. Your standards are naturally lower than regular eateries. I get it. Plus you're the only game in town (or the airport as the case is). However. For the love of god, educate your waitstaff on common food allergies such as gluten intolerance. Prepare them to make accommodations. This does not mean bringing a salad to the table with a piece of bread on the edge of the plate and then saying, "oh, we can just take the bread off." No. Don't roll your eyes when we ask you to remake it, either. The restaurant wasn't busy, so it's not like we were inconveniencing the kitchen staff. Also, don't tell us that you didn't know the bread was made from wheat. I'm sorry, but are you an idiot? Also, the dressing is oil and vinegar, not oil and oil. Get it right. PS: the fries were previously frozen and my burger was not medium rare like I asked for. And there was one very lonely lettuce leaf on it. Poor lettuce leaf.

Crappy food selection and service. After my second max n ermas I've been to, I wouldn't suggest either one of them.

The staff was very attentive for a airport restaurant. I ordered a salad so it should not have taken very long & it didn't. Food was good, enjoyed the meal and was ready for my flight. Note this isn't a McDonald's, so it does take a few minutes, but my food was ready in a reasonable amount of time.

Prices actually looked good for a place in an airport. Too bad we did not get to try the food. Sat for about 10 mins as the waitress walked by us 4 times without saying a word. Even refilled coffee at other tables before we got to order our own drinks. She made eye contact with me when we decided to walk out, but she seemed pretty indfferent to us leaving.

    (1)
  • Pat K.

The one in Dayton Airport has decent food, and we had a great server. But the brand has lost its way. No clear direction, no manager engagement. Shame to see it flounder like it is. You get what you expect and that is very little.

    (1)
  • Bassy D.

Unbelievably bad service. Waitress ignored us for over 10 minutes. Then we got told she'd be right back -- and another 10 mins passed. After we placed our orders another waitress showed up and some kind of employee drama ensued; apparently the second waitress came to work late (which explains why the first waitress was having trouble getting to us) and was all upset that the first waitress had been waiting "her" tables. Bad enough having to endure these Peyton Place antics while we were trying to enjoy our meal, but on top of that we were getting close to boarding time for our flight and running out of time.
