You really have to keep an eye out for this small, free-standing deli in downtown Toledo. Try a half pastrami, half turkey reuben. You won't regret it.

I have indulged in many reubens in my life time but none come close to the awesomeness that is a reuben from Roman's deli. The freshly sliced corned beef melts in your mouth and the rest of the flavors came in waves of Swiss, rye and dressing. This may seem like an extreme review for such a simple deli setting but between the quality of the food and the wonderful conversation with the owner it was a truly great lunch experience. If you are in down town during weekday business hours do yourself a favor and stop in for a bite.

I am known by many names. Mr Last Minute, Mr Cheap, and of course Mr Don't Get Out of the Car if you dont have to. This place fits at least 2 of my 3 alter-egos. I discovered this place a few years ago while renewing my license to operate a public vehicle. Usually, I would go to City Hall with my driving partner and while he would be upstairs getting his license I would orbit the block a few thousand times. It was during one of these times I discovered Romans. I scoffed at first because the place was so tiny. There's not a lot of room for the customers here, so be warned. You may have to wait outside for a few minutes. I decided to try it before I got around to hating it. I never got that far. I ordered the Corned Beef, and since being exiled to the Land of No Decent Jewish Food, I wondered how good it really could be. I had been to the Bread Basket in Oak Park, not to mention the gone but never to be forgotten Lefkowskys Deli on Broadway in Downtown Detroit, so when it comes to Corned Beef, I know from what I''m talking about and I am super critical on how my sandwich should be made. 6 dollars buys a huge sandwich which for me is right down my alley. I am a big guy and I need food to live. This was it. The one thing that bothered me was the mustard choices. There is but one mustard at Romans and it has all the charm of downtown Toledo on a Monday night. I mean, bland and boring and as yellow as my cab was. Not good. But that is a minor, very minor detail. Don't even think of parking there. There is none. So I did the next best thing, I went inside and spoke to the owner. I arranged it so I could have my sandwich brought our to my cab instead of risking a parking ticket from the cash starved City of Toledo. For that I always threw the guy an extra buck, Hey, for that kind of service it's worth it. They are not open on weekends, but could be. I think he'd make a mint during Mudhen games, but thats just me.

We were traveling on the turnpike and given the pathetic options for food found there, we ventured into Toledo to find something better. Found this deli on Yelp and I was excited. I LOOOOOVVE me some pastrami and corned beef. So I was hopeful when I saw the great reviews for this place. It's a cute enough little shop right across from what seems to be City Hall or something similar in downtown Toledo. We ordered a corned beef sandwich and a pastrami sandwich. For a dollar each, we got a small bag of chips and a can of pop each. Pretty good deal so far. The place was clean and the staff friendly, but at the end of the day, the food has to be good. Aaaaand it just wasn't. As we're eating our sandwiches, both Sean and I kept saying that something just tasted weird. The meat had a definitely weird flavor that was definitely NOT what you normally taste with corned beef and pastrami. After a few more bites and discussion, we decided what it tasted like - HOT DOGS. I kid you not, the exact flavor of the meat on my sandwich was that of a hot dog. Gross. The pickle was also not good. The bag of cheese curls was orange-flavored styrofoam. The only thing good about the meal was the Dr. Pepper. Sorry, Roman's. You just can't hold a candle to my beloved TJ and Mr. Brisket in the CLE. We'll stop elsewhere next time.

Hands down, this place makes the best Rubin in Toledo. Small place located at the northern side of downtown Toledo, it can be a little hard to park, sometimes. But the sandwiches are well worth the hassle.

Taking the day on my Birthday to try out local Toledo eateries and came across Roman's Deli's. I've always like the little off the main chain style places and Roman's is such a place with its small size but not small on flavor. I'm a lover of Ruben sandwiches and not to be let down here. Great friendly folks, price right, a must for corned-beef and Pastrami lovers and the sauerkraut was was mild and tasted as well, 4.5 stars only because We ate in our car.

Excellent sandwiches. Period. Add chips and a pop to your order for an extra buck. Try the homemade grape leaves, hummus or Greek salad. The menu is limited, but oddly, it doesn't feel limited; it feels refreshing instead of overwhelming. Downsides: limited hours (which do feel limited; 9 to 5, weekdays) and difficult parking. Don't let that stop you from going, however. Roman's is worth the extra effort it takes to get there.

I had heard about the corned beef sandwiches at Roman's Deli and finally had the opportunity to venture downtown the Friday after 4th of July to try one. I must say, it was, hands down, the best corned beef sandwich I've had in years. The corned beef was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a good sandwich while in downtown Toledo, you must stop at Roman's Deli - I promise you, it won't be a disappointment.

This is a strong 4.5 stars. The pastrami was a little mushey but melted in your mouth. The Reuben was great. Sauerkraut had a nice flavor. Pickles were not overbearing but again a little soft. The place is like a food truck without the wheels. No inside seating. Prices are a bargain at $6.50 and $6.00. I will be back!

I love corned beef and pastrami. This is the very best version of either of these I've had in Toledo. Lean, flavorful, melt in your mouth. If you live or work downtown, this needs to be a weekly stop.

I've recently discovered Romans deli in downtown Toledo across from the city hall. Hands down the best quality corned beef I've had In a long time since my last trip to New York. Although I loved the corned beef the turkey reuben was amazing. And there's a great deal, 6 bucks for a gigantic sandwich and a pop and a bag of chips for an additional dollar. Also the staff was extremely kind.

This is a great place to grab a sandwich. I try to make it there at least once a week. Their prices are very reasonable and you get a great sandwich in return. Currently my favorite is the corned beef on rye, but I've never had a bad sandwich here. The workers and owners are very friendly. Would definitely recommend anyone who works downtown to give them a shot.
