I finally was in the neighborhood, thus had to stop!! Pretty good flow of customers. I had to take a number - 10 - and only had to wait a few minutes before I was helped. I should first day there are only two tables on the left side of the store. Both of those tables were taken. Since seating is very limited, and I was running errands that day, I decided to take my Blondies to go. The craziness that ensues over the holidays got the best of me. I managed to keep forgetting about these scrumptious looking cakes. After a 2 1/2 week hold, I finally managed to eat my morsel on a Monday evening. Wow! Great taste! I prefer desserts that can be prepared warm. I popped my bar in the microwave for 15 seconds, and it only enhanced the rich flavor. After downing my half, the only thing that would have made it even better? A nice cold glass of milk :) I plan on frequenting this joint more in the future. I'm salivating just thinking about all those donut offerings, haha!

Our desire for sweets is natural, but over doing anything must be controlled. So when we want to have our weekly our monthly splurge we want the best. We moved into Pickerington a little over two years ago and love the area. So in our attempt to find the best we have been stung occasionally. However, finally we have found a bakery that is worth everything. Resch's Bakery has everything we want. With our first order we got just a few of our favorites for the weekend. Believe me, we'll be back next month.......or sooner.

There is nowhere else in Columbus to get cakes and doughnuts as r as I'm concerned. I've been coming here since I was 6 years old. Nothing in Columbus compares!

I didn't need anything fancy for a wedding cake. I really wanted something quite simple. Here is my thinking, it is being eaten what matters is that it tastes good. Many people my husband works with recommended this place so we went with it. I wanted a small cake for us to cut, and for pictures but I thought having sheet cake for my guests would be a more economical. Resch's can make this happen. Since our cake would be cut and served behind the scenes no one would know! Choices are minimal, white, or chocolate cake with lemon, strawberry or raspberry filling with their wedding butter cream frosting. When planning a wedding you will learn to appreciate small amount of option especially if you have a hard time making decision like me. We went with alternating, chocolate, and white cake with raspberry filling. The associate made sure with the small three cake and sheet cake we got the servings we needed. What really can't be beat is the price. After wedding price shock, this cake option is a welcome surprise.

Best donuts ever! Been eating from here since I was a kid. No 5 starts though, one thing they need to do is KEEP THE FLIES out of the display area where the baked goods are. It's a turn off, makes me not want to buy donuts.

I had Resch's cakes growing up for most of my friends' birthdays, since we lived way out east. The cakes are a step up from a grocery store cake, but not anything super gourmet or anything. (We always pronounced it Risch's, now I'm hearing it more as Reesch's, what do you think?) I realized I'd never actually been to the bakery. A co-worker and I were in the area, and she wanted doughnuts, so we went. It is such a dream. Cases and cases of fresh made doughnuts just calling to you. The display floor is covered in shelves that are stacked high with cookies, individual cake slices, little loaves of yummy breads (banana walnut, fruit and nut, etc.) And then there are the cakes and cupcakes in some more bakery cases. My mouth was watering! It was a challeneg, but I limited myself to just getting one small doughnut. They only take cash or check, so be aware!

I tried the apple fritter, sugar yeast, maple john long, and glazed cake. My favorites were the glazed cake and apple fritter. The sugar yeast I ended up throwing out. Resch's is a calssic bakery. The donuts are nothing too fancy and they offer cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods. The donuts are very cheap which adds to the rating. The donuts are not the best ive ever had, but theyre better than buckeye donuts. The glazed topping is done well, and the cake donuts are moist. I would return (the donuts are under $1).

We moved to Canal in Oct and had been getting our donuts at either Kroger or Walmart and I finally got bored with those, posted a request on the Nextdoor social ap p asking for a place with good donuts and baked good. All 10 or so responses directed me to Resch's and I am glad they did. Every trip I have made (three so far) I have had nothing but the best donuts, cookies and cinnamon rolls. The prices are a bit higher than I would expect for a non-chain place but the product is good and so I have no problem paying it.

This place has been around for over 100 years. My mother bought me the most beautiful castle cake from Resch's when I was 6. They still make cakes and other baked goods, but the star of the show is the donuts. We stopped by on Christmas Eve to buy donuts for Christmas morning. Even though they are a little more expensive than the chain brands you get what you pay for, which are the best donuts in town.

What a sweet find on the East Side! I'd heard about Resch's for years, but I finally tried it this weekend. I totally had the wrong idea about this place. Since it's in a strip mall, I was expecting a dumpy hole in the wall. Don't get me wrong, I love dumpy hole in the wall places, but Resch's is a somewhat up-scale bakery in the middle of Livingston Ave. Who knew?! It was the Saturday morning after a big power outage, and Resch's was bustling! I was completely overwhelmed when I walked in: overwhelmed by how nice the bakery was, overwhelmed the lines of people, and overwhelmed by all the delicious-looking baked goods! In case you're a newbie like me, here's what you need to do at Resch's: 1. Find a parking spot. Yeah, it's hard. 2. Take a number. 3. Walk around and look at all the goodies! (Or check them out online before you go.) 4. Go to the counter and place your order. They're super friendly and helpful, and they make great recommendations. 5. Pay with CASH. Yep, no cards here. 6. Walk away with your box of treats and indulge. I got a box full of treats for the family to try, and every single thing was delicious! The stand-outs were: glazed donuts, pecan cinnamon roll thingies, long johns, and the eclairs. And the price? A huge box for about $15.

I love this place. I hold glazed donuts on a pedastal, so I was beyond pleased with Resch's. HOWEVER. That being said, I was completely pissed off that they are a cash only place. Had I known this prior to going in, it would have saved me a lot of grief. I wanted that donut so bad, I actually left to go to an ATM and came back, cash in hand and ready. I try to eat healthy, but on my junk food-free-of-penalty days, I gorge the f-ck out here at Resch's. My only draw back is the cash only part. Damn it.

Still the best in town for all purpose baked goods. Their made to order cakes are outstanding. Be prepared to wait when you arrive, the rest of the world knows this too.

We'd researched this place for a while before trying, and suffice it to say that we were definitely not disappointed! We purchased some donuts and cupcakes, and the rest of the story is found in the climbing numbers on the bathroom scale! I personally think that these were some of the best donuts that I've ever had. My wife was not as big of a fan, but I found them to be light and airy with just the right touch of sweetness. Even ordering our treats in the afternoon yielded a very fresh taste throughout the rest of the day, and even days following. We also tried a half dozen cupcakes, which admittedly were somewhat bland. The red velvet was good, but most of the cake and frosting alike were nothing special and tasted very bland. In fact, we even questioned whether the cupcakes were out of a box mix. This would not be something we stop in for again, but the donuts definitely make up for it. The staff was very friendly and informative, and the prices were very reasonable, especially when compared with a lot of other bakeries / stores in the area. We hope to go back and try some of their breads and / or pies. Definitely try and make a stop in for the donuts, but take a pass on the cupcakes.

I have been hearing about how great these donuts are for the last few years and I finally was on East Livingston the other day and I decided to stop in for a taste. I like the fact that the place is busy enough that you need to take a number at the front door and wait your turn. The good: Chocolate Eclair. They fill the Choc. Eclair with wonderful cream that just eases out of it. The fluffy, moist glazed donut. Yes! I ate ordered two in the middle of the afternoon and ate both before I ever got to my destination. They have a wide variety of different donuts that looked pretty tasty and from hearing the orders from, everyone else they had to be tasty. It was 3 in the afternoon and people were still ordering a dozen or more donuts at a time. They also have other various cookies and baked breads. The bad: The first bite of the Eclair was a disappointment as it was a little dry without the cream but the rest made up for it. No prices for dunuts so I had no idea how much I was spending. I like to know what I am spending, please put donut prices somewhere in the store. Cash only. I didn't even realize this until I read posts on yelp. The glazed donut was better than Krispy Kreme, Kroger, Meijer by far. It was on par with Der Dutchman. I need to taste their Fritters and Long Johns to make a true overall judgment but I don't know when I will be over there again.

I won't ding them for not taking credit cards....Donuts, cakes, cookies and more, all made PERFECT! If we need a cake for a birthday or occasion such as our 10th anniversary vow renewal, Resch's is it, hands down!

I had a birthday cake made here for my wife's birthday this last weekend. It was an 8 inch cake with white cake, raspberry filling, and buttercream frosting. Everyone loved the cake and it was one of the better cakes I've had, period. We will be getting all of our birthday cakes there in the future. We also picked up a dozen donuts, assorted flavors. Again, some of the best I've had. Only ones around here that compare are Derr Dutchman, but I think these are a bit less rich and overwhelming. They taste very good and are extremely fresh. I think I prefer these.

We looooove this bakery. The staff is super friendly and efficient, so there is never a long wait no matter how busy the bakery gets. The donuts are always fresh, and there is always a wide variety to choose from, no matter what time of day you go. We used Resch's for our wedding cake (small, simple, but still very elegantly decorated) and everyone raved about how delicious our cake was. I am glad I don't live closer or I would be there every morning, stuffing my face with whatever amazing treats I could get my chubby hands on.

Another of the "old guard" Columbus bakeries, Resch's has a sign outside that proudly declares they've been in business for over 100 years, and when you try their food, it's easy to see why. The donut offerings are as traditional as you'd expect, no crazy flavors or odd fillings. What you will get is a bunch of really well executed standards, along with a broad selection of cookies, cakes, pies, and breads. (Try the little pretzel rolls if you're in the mood for a quick savory bite.) You've probably heard this already, but this is a cash or check only establishment, so army yourself appropriately - it's worth the minor inconvenience.

The five star rating is not for their cake. I prefer sweeter, more moist cakes. Theirs tend to be very dry to me. Those stars are for the donuts. When you arrive, make sure you take a number immediately. Also, not sure if they've changed recently, but you must pay cash. I think they also take checks. Those glaze donuts, though... If you are ordering for a group, please make sure you get two for yourself. Remove them from the box. These will be yours. Defend them. Don't let anyone know these extras exist. You will thank me. Later, after everyone has devoured theirs, you can sit in heavenly splendor and enjoy your treasure. They are tender, soft, pillowy twists of glaze and dough... hallelu! And if you get them fresh? Just go there. It's best if you go early, but it will be crowded. Leave time enough time in your morning routine, one day, to stop in. Get enough for your friends. But don't forget...

I won't rehash everything about this bakery (see Bryant M's review if you're new for a great overview of what to do when you get there!), but here are a few highlights from my experience: - I didn't see prices when I was ordering various pastries, so I was happily surprised when four pastries rang up under five dollars. - The pastries tasted awesome. - Except, the lemon danish--I could tell that the danish was filled with that purchased lemon goo and not a fresh lemon curd. Fake lemony flavor is not my favorite; it reminds me of furniture polish. Next time, totally going for the cheese danish. Going back soon. Maybe tomorrow!

I went in this evening with a hankering for something sweet. The glazed donuts looked delicious, (and they were pretty inexpensive- $.89) so I got two. I'm not a big fan of donuts at all but, my goodness, these were incredible. Soft and sweet and fluffy! Best donuts I've ever had! I intended to take a bite of one in the car and then save the rest for home. I ended up eating 1 1/2 donuts right there in the parking lot. Not a huge fanciful selection of donuts, but they seem to have perfected the classics.

We get a lot of our cakes here. They have he best white cake with white frosting ever. I hosted a bridal shower 8 hours away and ordered the cake from here and took it with us. Their pastries and doughnuts are super fresh and they have so many different homemade breads too. Their cream horns and sticky buns are killer.

  • Ann S.

Seriously? You'll only sell me cinnamon rolls if I buy six? We wanted 2 cinnamon rolls, they weren't pre-bagged like we've seen before, they were right on the bottom shelf and honestly they were the only thing that looked like they weren't selling. I'm not going to buy four extras just because of some weird rule. This may have been how its always been done but why have them out for sale on a sheet like the rest of your donuts when you have a minimum on them?? I'd say that's about it for us. Sigh.

I'm so glad I randomly stumbled across this bakery. As I've mentioned in other reviews, my job requires me to drive all over Franklin county. I was driving down E. Livingston Ave and knew I had to stop when I saw the Resch's sign. This is definitely a drive from my apartment in Clintonville, but I always stop when I'm on this side of town! The good: -ALL THE DONUTS. Seriously, I have liked almost everything I've eaten. My favorites are the strawberry danish and the jelly filled donuts. The jelly filled donuts are not too sweet, which can be a problem at other bakeries/donut shops. -The employees are always friendly and willing to help. -They accept credit cards now! The not-so-good: -Parking can be a pain at any time of day. I can usually find a spot though. I've just had to wait for other people to get in their cars and pull out. -The wait. I can't really fault them for this, but the wait kind of sucks. During a busy weekend morning, I've waited 15-20 minutes before even ordering. Make sure you grab a number as soon as you walk in. Don't be one of the people complaining because they forgot to take a number. Resch's is worth the drive across town for me. They have baked goods in addition to the donuts so there will be something for everyone.

I came here to pick up a cake. Its a little bit out of the way for me, but people seemed to love it. Parking lot SEEMED full, but there are lots more spots around the back that no one seemed to be taking advantage of. It doesn't seem like this would be nice bakery before you go in, but it was. I took a number as soon as I got in (68) and they were on 50. (Saturday morning). Wait was maybe 10-15 minutes. Everything looked good, smelled good, and everyone seemed happy to be there getting their treats. The cake was FANTASTIC. Everyone loved it. Ate it 5 days later... still great. If you need a custom cake for a special event, splurge and get it here. I haven't had better cake in Columbus. Only suggestions, I wish since I was pre-paid and picking up a fairly expensive cake for an event that I wouldn't have had to wait 15 minutes (maybe make a separate line or section for pre-paid pickups?). Also its far for me (but distance doesn't affect star rating; just a reason I wouldn't go back unless for a special reason).

I ordered a wedding cake from Resch's bakery, it was a 2 tier beach themed cake that was to serve about 40 people. They did an aweful job. First, I was on a time crunch and they did not have it done at the scheduled time, I was supposed to pick it up at 11:00 and they gave it to me at 11:30. I realize this is only half an hour, but I put the order in over a month ahead of time. The cake was not how I ordered it. I asked for a chocolate top tier and vanilla bottom tier with raspberry filling. They said they were out of chocolate cake in that size, so they substituted a separate sheet cake of chocolate. I have no idea why they couldn't make more chocolate cake in the right size, they are a bakery after all. The cake I got was dry and there was barely any raspberry filling. The decoration looked like they rushed it last minute. Honestly I could have done a better job decorating myself. I spent $115 on this cake. When I called to complain, they told me it was because my order got mixed up and it was in the pile for a different day. They offered to give a $20 refund. I feel like a month is an adequate amount of time to provide a quality cake with all of the correct ingredients but Resch's failed to deliver. I would never get a cake from them again.

Best donuts on the east side. Probably best in Columbus! Really fresh and tasty. The bakery is clean and works quickly to serve sweets lovers. I ordered two of the twists, glazed and chocolate glazed. Holy donut they were good. Soft and perfectly glazed. Remember to grab a number when you walk in and listen for your number. Next time I'm trying their cakes and of course more donuts.

I love everything I have had out of here , I've purchased from my wedding cake 32 years ago and shower cakes, pies, donuts, cookies, rolls, bread. I never have had a complaint every item really is good and fresh. The prices are great also. Saturdays is a busy day and blueberry donut day so get them asap . I remember I wanted a eclair and they had one left I said it was meant for me those are my must haves and the apple and peach pie oh my. Just enjoy the selection and grab a cookie chocolate chip and sugar are awesome but my favorite is oatmeal raisin . enough said go and get something you love sweet from this place.

CASH ONLY CASH ONLY CASH ONLY (or checks) =) Today we tried a chocolate and a vanilla long john, a glazed, and a vanilla dipped cake. They were all very good- the glazed was light and fluffy and tasted super fresh. The long johns were pretty good with great icing (but perhaps not as full of cream as they should be, agreed) and the cake donut was standard and tasty. Everything tasted freshly made, and we watched them restock a couple of trays while we were there, which makes me think they're making them throughout the day and are less likely to run out. We would have gotten a loaf of bread, but we were lucky to have the $5 cash we did scrounge up. The four donuts were a total $3.20ish. Deal! It would be nice to have some tags with names and prices- there were four trays of cinnamon roll-like items, but I'm sure they weren't the same, and we would have spent all 5 of our big bucks if we'd been able to strategize before getting to the counter. At 11:30 am on a Monday, there were at least 5 people waiting for service (which you receive by taking a number) so I doubt there's ever a good time to have an employee walk you through the case and educate.

I stopped in today to pick up a treat before visiting with a client. I took the advice that I had read previously and I took a number right away. Good thing since there were at least 10 ahead of me. This was a good indication of the quality, and I asked for an assortment of donuts since I had no previous experience to draw on. The donuts were fresh, and excellent and enjoyed by everyone. I would return to this bakery anytime I needed some fresh and yummy baked goods. The cakes were beautiful, as were the cupcakes!

We were in a bit of a pinch lately. My grandmother's 98th birthday party was this past weekend and the bakery that we normally order from was closed. I went online and after reading all of the positive reviews, decided to order a cake from Resch's (have never been there, never tried it, and don't know anyone that has). I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake (1/2 white and 1/2 chocolate) with white frosting. It cost $38.00, which I thought was reasonable. My family and I LOVED it! My grandmother raived about it - said it was the best cake she's ever had. I have to admit, I'm definitely a fan - the case was delicious - both the chocolate and white. When I picked the cake up, I also bought a white cupcake with coconut (delicious), a carrot cake cupcake (delicious), a package of sandwich buns (delicious) and a loaf of cranberry, orange bread (not so impressed, it was kind of dry). Overall, the cake was fantastic - just remember to bring cash - they don't take credit cards.

Resch's Bakery has the best Long Johns in town. The dough isn't sweet at all, but the whipped sugary filling inside and the sugar frosting on the top is impossible to resist. When those three things are combined it forms something magical. Note though that if you eat more than one you might very well go into some sort of sugar coma. The donuts are less sugary, more what you'd expect in terms of a really, freaking good donut. They stay pretty well from day one to day two as well, which is nice. These are great with coffee or hot tea, and when we have special occasion mornings I'm always begging my husband to make the trek to get them. One last thing, they only accept cash so be sure you've got some on you or you'll end up disappointed!

Hands down one of the best in Columbus. When I had to work early Saturday mornings, sometimes the only thing that could get me out of bed was the promise of Resch's donuts. It really doesn't bother me that they don't take debit or credit. Cash is how they have done it since they opened and maybe they just want to stick with what they know. Plus it probably would cost them more to actually have a credit card machine and run tons of small transactions.

This, to me, is your run-of-the-mill white flour bakery. It's solid, but nothing special. I've tried the donuts, the cinnamon rolls, the fritters, the pretzel bread, and the cookies. There's just no "WOW" factor for me! Sorry guys!

I live over on the west side of Columbus so this is somewhat of a long drive for me. The first time I visited Resch's was about a month ago. It must've been around 1 PM on a Saturday. Wow. The place was pretty busy and customers actually have to take a number. Yep. The place apparently is so routinely busy that you better take a number when you walk in. It only took about 5 minutes to get service but that was no biggie, as I was just trying to figure out what to get. I decided on getting some type of raisin cookie, a couple of cupcakes, an eclair, and a couple of other things. I can't recall the exact details. I'll say that the raisin cookie that I got was superb and new to me. Definitely a pleasant surprise. The cupcakes were fresh but I really didn't care too much for the buttercream frosting. Essentially, the frosting added nothing to the cupcake. I'm a bit picky when it comes to buttercream icing. If it's good, then you've completely won me over. If it's bad or average, then I'll never go back again. Think about it: why spend a decent chunk of money on cupcakes or cake that is average when you can go right down the road to your local grocer (Kroger's, Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart) and get a cake that is equally as average for practially half the price? Overall, most of the items were fine but nothing memorable or, "Oh, my! I have to go back and get this. This was the best xxx that I've ever had." Granted, I didn't try everything in the store so there may be some missed gems there. I will say that I've heard nothing but good things about their sticky pecan rolls (I hope I have that right) but when I asked for a roll, the lady behind the counter said they only sell them in half dozens! And a single one was already quite big. Not sure what the logic is behind that but I have no need to feed a football team. Nonetheless I didn't get to try the pecan sticky buns. I'm sure that Resch's is a great little bakery but there were some negatives for me. The most obvious one is its location. For me this is a long drive, which equals inconvenience. This obviously doesn't apply if you live on the East Side of Columbus. The other thing that was kind of weird is that this place is actually pretty big. They have plenty of floor space and tons and tons of glass case space. It just seemed like the place was a little too big for the operation. You would expect a bakery that has that much counter space to have a larger selection than what they have on display. Overall, a nice bakery. The best in Columbus? In my opinion, no. Would I go back to this location? Hmm. l doubt it. It's just so far away from where I live and there are plenty of other bakeries, that are just as delicious, that I find it hard to justify the drive. On a last note: it appeared, at least from what I observed, that Resch's sells a ton of cakes. The majority of customers that were in the store while I was there were picking up cakes. Of course, being curious about their cakes, they had single slices sitting out on to purchase. I bought the yellow cake (pretty sure it wasn't white) and the chocolate cake. In line with my experience, it was just okay. The cake was fine but the buttercream frosting was...what's the word...just incredibly unremarkable. Frankly, and I run into this a lot, the cake tasted like something that you would get at Giant Eagle or Kroger. Don't get me wrong: the cake wasn't horrible but it was merely mediocre. Nothing memorable.

We drive from Clintonville for a yummy Resch's treat! Delicious baked goods! Great fruit flavors that don't taste fake (but not maybe gourmet quality). The apple fritters have APPLE chunks in them- go figure! and best I've ever had- and I'm a BIG apple fritter fan. Great if you need massive amounts of sheet cake for an event. Cake was good, but not best I've ever had. (pretty run of the mill) Very clean, quick and organized, but no labels so you'll have to point and describe if you don't know what things are called. Make sure to grab a ticket when you walk in- it's packed! Good Saturday morning treat. Cash only.

I have been going to this bakery since I was a kid. They have had the best donuts, cakes, breads and cookies for their value in the city. They have remained economical even in hard times. I just went on Tuesday to get some fruit bars. This has been a favorite cookie bar of mine since I can remember. When I lived in NYC and came home to Columbus, I had to stop in to this bakery to get the cookies. I do love the old fashioned stick dounuts. There is none like them. Even Timmy Ho's can't match up to Resch's. If you have ever had their cakes, you will know.... They can make something to fit any budget. I have known them to work with people in the past. They have been a family owned business for I do not know how many years. I know at least as long as I have been around and I am 45 years old.

Yum-meee! The doughnuts and cakes are to die for. They don't get any better than this anywhere in Columbus. The price is a little more than you would pay at other places, but it is worth it. They only take cash or check, and the place can get really busy, especially in the mornings.

Resch's is the best bakery in Columbus. I will drive from West of 270 to the east side to pick up their donuts. There is no comparison. Their cakes are also the best in town. Their cakes are very moist and their frosting feels light.

If you want a taste of childhood then go here! The donut holes and eclaires are out of this world especially when fresh! I got all of my birthday cakes from here growing up and I just can never get enough of this place. It's an old fashioned bakery and still holds it's appeal. I have been to bakeries all over the place but nothing holds a candle to Resch's....I'm really craving some now.

I can agree with all the other reviews, that the glazed donuts here are the best of the places ive visited in Columbus. I have been back several times. I've had the cakes and some other baked items, but the donuts are the best. However, I doubt whether the owners of this place will ever read yelp. Thats a shame! All I can say is that the customer service just isn't there. There is nothing special about the experience, its just good donuts. I mean nobody offered my toddler son a cookie, while we waited. What a miss on treating customers with some appreciation. So I don't proclaim this place for the service because its just not that great. By the way, we waited for a while, as we do every time because there is always a line. They cant find a better way for customers to wait than a paper tag with a number? I guess thats the lumps you have to take there as a loyal customer. By the way, they run this place like its in the stone age. The customer always has to pay cash, and I don't like that either. They raised the prices for a dozen over the past year and they use to offer a 13th donut when you bought a dozen... Where did that go? The owners seem stingy to me, and thats what I tell people who wanna buy some great donuts there, dont expect top notch service. Its just not there. Again, I doubt whether the owners of this place will ever read yelp. Thats a shame! Service is the Game now people! Not just great donuts and cakes, and for gosh sakes offer up a free cookie, for goodness sakes! Is that really too much to ask for? People Like to feel APPRECIATED and VALUED for there LOYALTY. But i just dont feel so much anymore, so my loyalty is waning.

This appears to be a very good bakery but I'll know more once I crack open the stuff I bought there. I did notice that they don't have a huge amount of baked goods. Probably enough to sell but not as much as I'd have thought they would have had. I bought a package of cookies and a couple of rolls that I'm going to use for sandwiches tonght.

Let's hear it for the white flour bakeries! Yes it's soft and white and shouldn't be eaten in great quantities, but you know for special occasions, it's nice to indulge. And Resch's makes it a pleasure to indulge. Yesterday it was a 60 to 90 minute wait as of 11:30am - but this bakery was stocked for the holiday. Charming "bunny" cakes, a variety of donuts (excellent chocolate frosted long johns or creme sticks), fruitful danishes, yeasty cinnamon rolls, caramel-ly pecan rolls, glazed hot crossed buns with cinnamon, cherry, and raisins, and the object of my rave - the "grandma" roll. The grandma roll is the perfect cinnamon roll - a sturdy yeast dough rolled with cinnamon sugar, topped with pecans in caramel, syrupy goodness, and to top it off - confectioner's glaze. They are excellent. The best thing about them is that they are not too sweet - this is a perfect combination, reminding me of my Mother's homemade cinnamon rolls. Sold in a 6 pack, it's easy to overindulge. Take it home, gently warm it in the microwave and spread generously with butter - or split it and grill it in a skillet. They are excellent and worth the trip from Hilliard to the East side. We also picked up a birthday cake for a certain Yelper - white cake with white frosting - beautifully decorated. The cake is light and fresh and the frosting is indulgent enough - not too thick not too thin....just right. Their cakes are top notch, and once again worth the drive. This place occasionally sells out, and getting there so late in the day usually means slim pickings, but as I said earlier - they were ready for this holiday madness. Their sandwich roils are also excellent- everything is fresh. They also offer smaller cakes and individual slices of cake if you aren't interested in a sheet cake. Make the trip sometime to try some superior baked goods - not organic, but of the highest quality. Bring cash too!

If you get here at opening time (usually a few minutes before 7 a.m.), the donuts are still warm. You have not LIVED until you try a warm glazed bow tie donut. It actually melts in your mouth. I'd never been impressed with the "Hot Donuts Now" sign at Krispy Kreme-- the need for a hot donut had never been there for me. (And I can't stand Krispy Kremes to begin with, so that maybe played a role in my blah-ness.) But Resch's warm glazed bow tie donut is the stuff diabetic dreams are made of. The donut itself isn't really sweet, but the glaze-- not too thin, not too thick-- lifts it. Heaven. And if you're a danish fan, Resch's has absolutely delicious ones. Try the pineapple, and then question a universe where these aren't available everywhere. Yes, you have to pay with cash. Yes, there's a paper ticket line order. Yes, it can be tricky to find parking during peak times. And no, they might not leap over the counter to give your toddler a free cookie, but that's because they're too busy WAITING ON CUSTOMERS and CREATING DELICIOUSNESS. It's actually nice to know that there are some places for whom the old ways work best-- helpful customer service without being too "I'm your new BFF"-style perky, cash on the barrelhead, and a throwback to a time when white flour was not the devil. I'm a fan.

I agree with Dan D. You shouldn't have it, but it tastes so good! My high school and college graduation cakes came from here and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also have called and they will make me mini hamburger buns for sliders (I have to call in advance though). Their staff is always friendly and helpful and I inevitably walk out with more than I planned. It is a long wait if you get there at peak times but worth it. I just wish they had a larger variety of baked goods such as pastries.

You can smell the deliciousness as soon as you get out of your car. This family-owned bakery has been in the same location in Whitehall for as long as I can remember. If I'm celebrating a birthday or anything that necessitates cake, I go to Resch's. The bread, donuts, cake - - EVERYTHING is amazing. The prices are remarkably low too. If you haven't tried this place, do it. You will thank me (your waistband will not).

Resch's has made it hard for me to decide what the best donut I've ever had is... Before I would've probably said the blueberry cake from Buckeye Donuts, but after today I can't decide between Resch's pumpkin donut and red velvet donut. Both donuts were incredible! So fluffy on the inside with just enough sweet glaze to be very satisfying without overpowering the other flavors of the donut. I was a little worried when I first came in and was almost 20 numbers behind the current one being called, but they were super fast and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes at most. I only tried the donuts but I can't imagine anything from here being less than amazing after being absolutely blown away by my first taste test. It's probably a good thing ultimately that Resch's is over 20 minutes away from me, otherwise I'd be visiting way too frequently for sweet treats.

Resch's is my all time favorite. You just can't go wrong with anything from this place. I've been going to Resch's my entire childhood and I have yet to find a bakery that comes close to competing with the quality of product or cost! Everytime I'm in town we stop in at Resch's.

Thought I'd already reviewed this, but guess not. Went there last week, and used to go there a lot. It hasn't changed much. Great baked goods, good selection, friendly service. Always a line. I wish there were more good old-school bakeries scattered around town. We got donuts, bread, and nut bread. The nut bread was like pound cake with walnuts in it; pretty good. The bread and donuts were great.

This is the best bakery in the city. I like how it feels just like family every time you walk in. I love anything red velvet from here. The only bad thing I can say about this bakery is that they still do not take plastic!

Their pastries and crusts and breads are made from time tested receipes that leave a person always wanting more. Light, flaky, delish- I can't think of a thing they don't make well. I am counting calories these days, but I always leave enough room on my list for a baked good from this honest to goodness home town treasure that has been baking in Columbus for a long time~

Definitely a step up from my recent doughnut ventures. I have finally found a really good apple fritter! Kudos Resch's!! I went here on a Tuesday and tried a whole bunch of stuff. Mostly doughnuts, but also some pastries. There were two younger girls working the counter (shouldn't they be in school?). The bakery was super clean. This was great considering how the rest of the neighborhood looks around it. Keep in mind this place is right by adorable downtown Whitehall. If you're north of Livingston take Yearling to Resch's for some scenic driving! Anyway, back to business. I got all three flavors of "long johns" or creme sticks or what-have-you. They were better than average save the maple, which was bland. Their doughnut dough is more of a dense consistency than most making it so they didn't have a fresh fried taste, but more of a bakery cake taste. Like i said, better than average. I also tried a apricot danish. I LOVE apricot in pastries. These danishes were pretty good. Again above average. I'd say it was little dry, but 10 seconds in the microwave would have fixed that. It was 1:30 PM after all. The counter girl said the "butterscotch rolls" were her fav; so of course I got those. They sell them in a group of six. I was left wondering why they were her fav when the apple fritters were so stellar and these were so plain. They were like hot dogs buns that had the dough twisted with cinnamon and topped with butter brown sugar and glaze. They made me think of the free cinnamon rolls at Cap City. They're great free, but I wouldn't pay for them. I would absolutely return here for apple fritters anytime. Anything else I could forego, but everything I tried was good, mind you. Pro Tip: CASH OR CHECK ONLY Bring your dolla dolla bills because 6 doughnuts, 2 apple fritters, the danish, and the "butterscotch rools" were only $12. Seriously?? Only $12??!! Yes Please! Comparatively, I paid just under $15 for a box of inedible crap from Buckeye.

So about 4 more years have passed since my last update on Reschs. I still stop in every now and then, but there's only one thing I will get there that i know is always good. Their fruit bar cookies are fantastic. Still don't take credit cards. Parking lot is usually crowded, a lot of people get cakes here.

OMG, they have the best donuts in town! And there is one glazed donut as big as my head (which is fairly large), delicious! Now if only they would realize that people don't use cash and checks (who accepts checks anymore, really?) and get a credit card machine they would be 5 stars!

Definetly one of the best bakeries in Columbus! They have a huge selection of Donuuts, Muffins, Cupcakes, Breads, bagels and other desserts and all are good! I cant leave with less than a huge box full of goodies, the place is always packed but they have enough friendly staff to keep things moving quickly. The cupcakes arent special, but the Bagels and Donuts are definetly worth getting!

I was looking for a good bakery to take my bakery-lovin' father when he visited last week and reading what people wrote here made me decide this was the place. It was good, we enjoyed everything we got there (cake, cinnamon rolls, donuts, pretzel, chocolate chip cookies), but they weren't amazing. If I was in the area I might stop in again to get something, but it would not be worth the half hour drive for me to get something in my opinion. That said, everything's definitely good and if I needed a special occasion cake and didn't want to just get something from Kroger, I'd definitely consider Reschs. I was also pleased with their prices. Very reasonable!

Such a shame. Reschs had been around forever and as a child many of my birthday cakes where from here. Now I know they aren't organic or even free of artificial colors but this list of ingredients is no better than a Walmart "bakery" cake. I had an errand yesterday in this area and thought I would stop in for a cheat and grab a couple doughnuts or a slice of cake. I walked in and chose a regular yeast glazed doughnut and an apple fritter. Each around .90. The employee was pleasant enough. Heres the problem. When walking out I browsed through their items they had set out fresh that day to sell (slices of cake/packs of cookies). Now, I don't expect an artisan cake made with local. gmo-free, organic ingredients from here but I also don't expect to pay bakery prices for a pre-made industrial mix full of chemicals and about 30 ingredients.. If I wanted an "anti-freeze" cake I would go to Walmart. Not cool Reschs...something went wrong in the 100 years you have been around. They get no stars for their poor quality and deception. However, I would prefer someone support a local buisness over a chain, the place is clean, the workers are friendly, and I can't say the product tastes badly. Thats why I'm giving them any stars. p.s- my hubby and I each had a bite of the doughnut and although it tasted good (how can a doughnut not) it left us both with that greasy/rock in the stomach/burping up all day feeling. Not what I experiance from quality made doughnuts such as Doughnut Plant in NYC or our very own Destination Donuts at the North Market.

Damn it.

Sorry guys!

I'm a fan.

Resch's is my all time favorite. You just can't go wrong with anything from this place. I've been going to Resch's my entire childhood and I have yet to find a bakery that comes close to competing with the quality of product or cost! Everytime I'm in town we stop in at Resch's.

The best bakery I've been to in Columbus. Whenever I've lived out of state, I've had people bring me their granny rolls (which are amazing) when they came to visit.

Sigh.

Cash only.

Damn it.

Best cake ever!! I am not exaggerating, I travel a lot and in each town I try the cake. I read the great reviews but still was not convinced, then I tried it. Perfection!!! Frank was great. I traveled 5 hours and it was totally worth it. Cindy Parks

Definitely some of the best donuts I've ever had in Columbus. Decently priced with friendly bakery associates.

    Oh my god the donuts.

Charming and definitely the BEST bakery in Columbus hands down. Our family buys all our cakes here because we are always impressed and never let down. So good!

Donuts were incredible, 5 star worthy. Apple fritters were also excellent. The unfriendly help is the only area this place needs work. I can even put up with the cash only policy.

The best bakery ever! Birthday cakes are out of this world, along with everything else they make! Every opportunity I get I make sure to get a cake! Did I mention their hot cross buns are incredible? Mmmmhhh!!

This is the best bakery in the city. I like how it feels just like family every time you walk in. I love anything red velvet from here. The only bad thing I can say about this bakery is that they still do not take plastic!

I won't ding them for not taking credit cards....Donuts, cakes, cookies and more, all made PERFECT! If we need a cake for a birthday or occasion such as our 10th anniversary vow renewal, Resch's is it, hands down!

The best bakery I've been to in Columbus. Whenever I've lived out of state, I've had people bring me their granny rolls (which are amazing) when they came to visit.

I'm a fan.

OMG, they have the best donuts in town! And there is one glazed donut as big as my head (which is fairly large), delicious! Now if only they would realize that people don't use cash and checks (who accepts checks anymore, really?) and get a credit card machine they would be 5 stars!

Yes..I can say. It's a good bakery with fantastic bakery product. My girl friend send me some of very delicious to taste. That were just imagine. She says the bakery compound is fresh and clean. Staff is very friendly too. Thanks Resch such a nice products.

This, to me, is your run-of-the-mill white flour bakery. It's solid, but nothing special. I've tried the donuts, the cinnamon rolls, the fritters, the pretzel bread, and the cookies. There's just no "WOW" factor for me! Sorry guys!

Resch's is my all time favorite. You just can't go wrong with anything from this place. I've been going to Resch's my entire childhood and I have yet to find a bakery that comes close to competing with the quality of product or cost! Everytime I'm in town we stop in at Resch's.
