I totally agree with George R.'s review and description of the restaurant. My husband and I went in for a late breakfast. I had the huevos rancheros that came with pinto beans and tiny little cubes of fried potato (not sure what the potatoes were called). All was good, except the potatoes were a bit greasy. Steve had scrambled eggs, smoked bacon, hashbrowns, and a side of pancakes. He liked his very much. The bacon was very smokey and flavorful. Comfort food . . . it is. There were a few hand drawn pictures on the wall in the back that showed that someone loves their "Nanna" very much. Very homey and sweet. The server was attentive and very nice. I'd like to go back and have lunch or dinner if I'm in the area.

Certainly a local eatery; was really looking forward to getting a meal at Joann's but we really did not enjoy the food here and didn't even finish what we ordered. There are other stellar places one can go for gd nm food.

Joann's was my husband's favorite New Mexican restaurant 30 years ago. It was his one big decision on this trip to drive out of our way to eat here. We were both disappointed to find that the once flat enchiladas were now rolled and the corn tortillas in the enchiladas were dry. The sopapillas were doughy and cold. What a letdown!

Not a whole lot of options in Espanola but the bright sign caught our attention. Basic New Mexican food, good service, decent prices. I ordered the vegetarian tamales but they were out of them! So I got a breakfast burrito instead. Was nice that they advertised vegetarian options. My friend ordered the chipotle black bean burger and sweet potato fries! Would prob go back if I'm back in the area.

For those who grew up on "down home" style Mexican cooking, JoAnn's Ranch O Casados Restaurant is all about that kind of comfort food. I stopped at JoAnn's for lunch as I was driving through Espanola and ordered a stuffed sopapillas topped with green chili and melted cheese, Spanish rice and posole (hominy). The food was very good, nothing out of the ordinary or fancy, but quite satisfying and filling. And though I was pretty stuffed after eating, I had to order sopaipillas for dessert. My server brought out a cinnamon-sugar mix as well as honey for the sopaipillas. Both sweeteners go well with sopaipillas. The restaurant itself looked kind of dated with a mishmash of decorating elements from various decades (building structure from the 70's, paint colors from the 80's, accents and decorations from here and there, etc.). So don't go for the setting, go for the cooking. Overall, JoAnn's Ranch O Casados is worth a visit. Good food at a good price.

We've been back a few times when we're in the area, and are still happy with the quality of the food and service. This is not the place to expect white tablecloths, but basic diner chic with good food/service.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
