This had been my guilty pleasure of choice for over 2 years now! Taco Box is a great alternative to the normal fast food. Think of it as Taco Bell, but with actual taste. My current favorite on the menu is the BIg Baja Steak burrito. The staff is always friendly and always willing to assist. Interior is kept very tidy with a great decor highlighting the local community. A true bright spot in this town!

This is my all time favorite drink stop. I love my refillable mug. It's an everyday stop before work. Service is great and so is taco Tom!!!!

Seeing that Taco Box was one of the "official stops of the green chili cheeseburger trail" I had to stop right? Unfortunately I am unable to eat a whole hearty burger but decided I could cut it in half and see if I can resist the other (sigh, where is a Yelp friend when you need them :) Besides the green chili cheeseburger, Taco Box is not short on unique menu options to include a peanut butter burger (yes that is peanut butter on a beef patty) and pig-in-a-poncho (hot dog chimichanga). I ordered the green chili cheeseburger and a side of Spanish fries with a side of house made salsa. The green chili had the perfect kick to it and the beef was good and the burger was not greasy. Not a pre-made patty but not exactly Angus beef either. The "Spanish" fries were standard tater tots, I envisioned something a bit different like topped with green chili and/or queso but was a nice side for the burger. This might not be the BEST burger evah, nor a place to go out of your way to hit up, but if you find yourself in Clovis, this seems to be a local tradition and has been in business since 1969.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Been going since I was six! Great memories and every time I visit Clovis, it is the first and last place I hit, with a couple more times in between. I am so sad it didn't break into an inter-state chain. I live in AZ and am tortured by my Taco Box burrito and Spanish fry cravings. My mouth is watering as we speak- I might just have to see if orders can be frozen and shipped!

This is a good alternative to chain restaurants if you are on the road. They have some ok vegetarian choices (not always easy to find in a place like Clovis, NM).

I love to eat at Taco Box! The guacamole bacon burritos are my favorite!

So it isn't just the great food that makes Taco Box a must stop in Clovis, Nm. Though they have the food to back up their "cult favorite" status, what really makes them stand out is the extras they provide. The atmosphere is fantastic. A home town restaurant that feels inviting and warm with out the cheesy and quaint feeling that often comes along with it. Also free wi-fi, and their willingness to do WHATEVER you want with your order. Order off menu, add as many ingredients, or take as many off as you want, they are happy to help. Stop by Taco Box, quite simply, it lives up to the hype.

LOVE Taco Box!!! Taco Box is an icon in New Mexico. I'm originally from Clovis and currently live in Dallas. Every time I go home I have to hit up Taco Box at least several times. The food is fresh, homemade, authentic and delicious! Probably the best chile cheese burger ever! Also get a frijole burrito and Spanish fries--don't forget the Ranch dressing! Top it off with a large lemon-lime Dr. Pepper. The mixed sodas are awesome! I'm going to Clovis in 2 weeks and I cannot wait!! By the way. my first job was at the Taco Box in Portales in 1989. I can attest that everything is fresh and quality driven. Yum!!!!

As someone who grew up in Clovis, Taco Box has always been one of my favorite places to eat there. From the rather quirky building to the different menu items, Taco Box really is a place like no other. Tom, the owner, regularly comes through the dining area to greet the customers. He even gave my wife a free t-shirt a few months ago. All of the service there is top-notch. The food is great, as well. Much different than what you would find at Taco Bell. Better tortillas, better beans/meat, and they make their own salsa. Fresh green chile on just about anything you want, and a large assortment of drinks and desserts. Taco Box is great! I just wish there was a location in Austin! :)

I got a fish taco here one time a couple months ago. There was a fin and big piece of fish bone. I threw up and haven't been back since. That was only the second time I had ever been there.

Taco Box is an institution here in Clovis. You have to stop by...just because. Anything fried here is amazing, mozzarella sticks being my personal fav. Burgers...eh...so so and tacos aren't very good. Everything else though? Very good! Great salsa as well!

BEST GREEN CHILE CHEESEBURGER EVER! There are also some seasonal items that are pretty tasty as well too like the green chile stew & the chicken and green chile chimichanga. Staff is very friendly and small town. The drive thru gets super packed and congested during lunch and dinner times.

On growing up in Clovis, NM and passing Taco Box just about daily on my way to and from the High School, it is certainly a sure thing to know that Taco Box was the stop for all things beverage, as their 1-litre drinks were very easy to customize...my personal favorite being a cherry-lime Sprite. Of course, their menu certainly offered a wide variety of choices, including spanish fries (tater tots) with queso (nacho cheese) or cheddar and green chili. While bacon was an offering, it was not so great with the spanish fries. Beyond the quick nibble of spanish fries, there are two personal favorite items for me. The first is a guacamole and bacon burrito with onion, cheese and sour cream. This thing always weighed a pound easily, and if it was a 'coming home at the end of the night' kind of thing, cut in half was more than enough. The guacamole is always made the same day...the bacon is cooked fresh for the order and they don't skimp on the sour cream or cheese. It is a custom order that you won't find on the menu. My second favorite is another item not on the menu...it is a bean burrito with a scoop of meat burrito, add sour cream and smother the whole thing in green sauce on a bed of lettuce. For the price, it's an easy 2-meal order... Ah, those high school days, when it was all about soda and quick munchies!

Good place to get Mexican food to go, it's no wonder that the Taco Box is a local favorite. Good authentic Mexican food, fairly quick service, and at a decent price!

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
