Doesn't look like much from the outside but it is super yummy. I have a son with a gluten allergy and the server was very knowledgable and helpful to find something he can eat. The pork was very tender and the best I have ever had. The food came really quick and it all included sopapilla which were fantastic. Would highly recommend for good authentic New Mexican food.

Not sure what was so great for everyone to give it a good rating.we went yesterday and it was such a let down.chips n salsa were store bought I'm sure.ordered soft tacos whith shredded beef but was served basically rolled enchiladas.Beans are runny, rice was blah.got taquitos have to be prefrozen definitely not fresh. I was so disappointed after reading so many good reviews.my waitress didn't check on us once .sadly I will not return here.the two stars are for the sopapillas which were fresh and good other than that not worth it.:(

This place doesnt look like much from the outside but the food was really good! I am not a native New Mexican but my travel partner is. He said it was amazing and I completely agree! I got the shredded beef enchiladas with red and green chili and my friend got the ground beef stuffed sopapia. Both were delicious! The salsa was good but the chips did not look homemade. Prob my only complaint. Quick, friendly and close to the highway. Guess that makes it worth the stop! I would def come back and also recommend you stop in too.

As good as it gets! This has been a Belen staple for a very long time. Yes it's a small hole-in-a-wall place but that's what makes it great. First off the portions are huge. If you're a big guy like me you appreciate that you can likely take 1/2 of a stuffed sopapilla plate home after. The beans and rice are very tasty and everyone gets yummy salsa and chips to start and plates come with 2 wonderfully delicious sopapillas. If you want to get romanced in a pompous atmosphere don't go here the atmosphere here is plain and simple and just functional, but you'd be missing out.

Great find in our way to Las Cruces. Airy sopapillas and delicious green chili chicken enchiladas.

If you want experience New Mexican cuisine this is one of the best places located in an out of the way small town just off I 25. It is small. But be prepared for some great flavor and SPICY.

If you're eating in Belen, go to Montaño's, because they are the best place in town. After you drive past it the first time, and maybe wait a few minutes for a table if you came right at lunchtime, you won't be sorry. The food is awesome and inexpensive, the cups are gigantic, and the salsa is delicious. My favorite is the huevos rancheros, which they serve all day, and they actually know how to cook over-hard eggs, so I love them.

So good! Nice and cozy, clean atmosphere. The server took our order, said it would be right out and in literally 5 minutes we had our food, nice and hot. The soapaipillas were nice and puffy. I will come back again and again. Only suggestion is hotter salsa and chile :)

This place is the perfect stop. Great prices and oh so generous servings. The staff was so awesome!!!! Thank you Taylor!!! I recommend this place over any that I've tried on my travels through Belen. Hungry? Then this is your stop.

One word to describe this place. ...BOMB!!! This was my first time eating here even though I grew up local. I came during vacation and am so glad I decided to give it a try.... it looks like a small house from the outside but the minute I walked in and the smell of chile smacked me in the face I knew it was going to be good. In my opinion although both the red and green chile was good the red was tastier and had a little more bite. The meal came complete with sopapillas and honey added at the end of our meal, which if you grew up in NM then you know that is a authentic dinner. On top of the food being amazing their staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. Although the restaurant did not look like much from outside it had a cute ambiance inside and it was clean. It was really crowded when I got there (lunch rush) but I would wait anytime.

Here for the first time today. We both had enchiladas one red one green. They were good. The only thing I wished they had chile between each layer. The stack of three corn tortillas and cheese were topped with chile. Soaps were good, not real honey. We'll probably be back to try something different. Rice was not bad just not great. Beans tasted good but could've been cooked longer before they were refried.

This is a great little hole in the wall place with the best sopaipillas I have ever had. My boyfriend and I shared the special which was red chile enchiladas. The red sauce had great flavor and enough heat to make it spicy but not so hot you couldn't taste the sauce. The owner was sitting at a table in the front and was fun to talk to.

My favorite New Mexican food restaurant! The portions are generous and the food is delicious. Some of my favorites are the tacos and the carne adovada stuffed spoapillas. The service is always good too! Definitely my favorite place to eat in Belen!

Huge portions and delicious! Sopapillas are fresh and the best Ive had. If you love cheese, you'll love Montanos!

It's where I go exclusively for New Mexican, or Mexican food. Pete's is waaaay overrated and the food is so much better @ Montano's that it's a shame that Pete's gets all the attention. As has been stated: LOTS of food, fair pricing, decent service, small joint. And ever so much worth it!

Ask the locals where they eat Mexican food, and this is where they said to go. I almost missed it. It is the size of a box. I walked in and there's about 10 tables, and a girl at the counter. I sat down and ordered. The service was friendly. The menu is bigger than the restaurant. She was very patient, even though it didn't take me long: 3 stacked enchiladas and ice tea. Check this out, here's where it gets interesting. The enchiladas came with 2 huge, fresh and warm sopadillas. She also bought honey, and chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious. The best I've had in a long time. The lunch was huge. I have enough left over for a second meal. I had cheese enchiladas, and it comes with rice and beans. It was fantastic, and very friendly. I really am glad I went. And best of all, I have left overs. How grand!!

We were on the way back from Socorro (husband was judging a science fair) and got hungry around Belen. I looked on Yelp for a recommendation and found Montanos. AWESOME!!! We found the little stand-alone restaurant and went in, ordered and sat at one of the five or so tables. We were joking around with the staff and generally having a great time while we waited for our food. Everyone was friendly and extremely nice. Then the food arrived. HEAVEN... I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was not much. In return, we got a TON of ridiculously delicious food, and we felt like we had hit the jackpot. The sopaipillas were utterly perfect. Piping hot, yeasty and light, and I could have eaten about fifty of them. The guacamole was awesome. Everything was awesome. We had to take home about half our food, and six hours later when we were mildly hungry again, we gorged on it - it was amazing. This place is a gem. We go there anytime we are nearby. You should, too!

Very small place, max capacity about 26. We drove past it while looking for it. Would not have found it without GPS. I had shredded beef burrito and was disappointed, it was so so nothing to write home about. There are no lights in the parking lot . I would find another place to eat the next time I'm in Belen.

We stumbled upon this place driving through to Arizona. Highly recommend stopping in to get some authentic tex mex cuisine. Yes - the sopapillas (fried dough pastries) were amazing. Not an understatement. But also make sure to try the red chile - super unique sauce that made everything it covered addictive. I scraped my plate clean. YUM.

You know something's off when your husband brings takeout from a new mexican food restaurant back to the motel and it smells like sickeningly sweet msg loaded chinese food. I asked for rellenos, with red chile sauce on the side. The chiles were drenched with sauce, which tasted more like canned enchilada sauce than red chile. Inside each soggy chile was a frozen solid block of cheese. I don't know how it tasted because I wasn't interested in eating cheese popsicles. My husband ordered a red chile pork burrito. His wasn't frozen, so he ate more of his meal than I did. He was very sick that night with the runs, and for 2 more days, not a good situation any time, but even more so on a road trip. The sopapillas were ok, but they gave us " sopapilla sauce" packets, basically corn syrup, instead of honey, what a total cheap out. Never never ever would I return.

This place is great. We have been here many times. The lunch special with 3 tacos totally rocks and is a huge amount of food. Love the chips and salsa and the enchiladas. My husbands favorite is the carb special, you won't believe the amount if meat they serve! Just a yummy place to eat! It is small, clean and the service is good but not overly friendly (which we happen to like).

Great place for great food. Small tiny place, may have to wait for an open table on busy nights, but well worth it. Plates are big prices are small. Daughter and father are great cooks.

Montano's serves New Mexican food. The restaurant is very short on atmosphere and really just a shack in a gravel lot. It only has about 8 tables. However, the food is excellent, plentiful, and inexpensive. The service is good and the owners are friendly and always glad to see you. They do a brisk take out business. Eat here when you get tired of dealing with the wait staff at Pete's.
