We came in from El Paso on President's Day. Very nice family who love their business. We had the fry bread platter (red and green) and a meat and potato burrito. Excellent food with a wonderful staff. Oh, and they serve spam and SOS. What else can you ask for. We'll be back.

We were hungry for breakfast for our first meal this trip to nm this season. Pretty limited for vegetarians; all beans have meat, green chile has chicken stock, no decaf coffee. Regular coffee pretty nondescript. Had scrambled eggs. Food is standard edible. Big open room linoleum floors, ordering window, menu on wall. Waiter is owner's son, very patient with special requests. Seems to be well liked by regulars, but we were just passing through. Looking forward to Santa Fe New Mexican restaurants, where chile is serious business. Viva "Plaza" restaurant. Here we come.

1 star not vegetarian friendly. This place has served tex mex for 28 years. Advertised as New Mexican but not authentic. Very friendly environment.

One of my absolute favorites. So good I had to go ahead and add this business to Yelp on their behalf. This is a family-run business with husband and wife in the kitchen and their son helping up front. Just talking to them, you can tell they take great pride in this business. I'm from Southern New Mexico, where green chile is unlike anything else anywhere else. No restaurant in town so far has come close to bringing me back home like Santiago's has. Since I moved to ABQ, it has become a regular stop for me. I usually like to try new places, but this business just keeps calling me back. The price is definitely right on their menu. Varies from a few bucks to around eight for a dish. Their red chile sauce is nice and herby with a rich red chile flavor. Never bitter. Their green chile sauce is as close to Hatch chile flavor as you can get up here. All other chile is always that dark green, black peppery flavored kind. The food is *always* piping hot (physical heat) and they have no qualms about it. Hot food is good food. The menu is mostly Mexican-style food, but if you're looking for some basics, they do have pancakes, bacon, eggs and sausage. However, their breakfast and lunch burritos are such a good value and really big. They can be served handheld or smothered. There's a dish called the Santiago Scramble, which looks like roadkill but tastes like ambrosia. It consists of hash browns, eggs, chorizo, cheese, and chopped onion. Smother it with chile and you're having a party on your plate! They have other menu items such as enchiladas, tacos, and burgers as well. You can order takeout if you'd like. They also do take-and-bake. Their enchiladas are perfect for any get-together. Friends have always been super-pleased when we bring some to a party. Their taco sauce is sold by request. Try it sometime! Ask for some on the side of whatever you're getting. The service is great, even if the place is packed. Don't judge too much if you have a one-off day since it's just mom and son usually helping up front and dad cooking in the back. They are outstanding, fast, helpful, and attentive 99.9% of the time. If you decide to visit and it's your first time, I highly recommend starting with the Santiago Scramble, tacos, or a breakfast/lunch burrito. Smother whatever you can in chile sauce. You won't regret it unless you hate chile... and freedom... ;-)

A mom and pop joint on Eubank with b'fast available all day, great green chile cheeseburgers and excellent tacos with "homemade" shells. Give this place a try! And if you like huge sopapillas that aren't too greasy, you'll like Santiago's. Good food, nice folks, reasonable prices . . . a neighborhood favorite.

We stopped on Saturday to have a early lunch and had the fried bread plate (christmas red and green) and a taco with that awesome taco sauce. The food was delicious, you won't be disappointed. The price and the service was great. Had the chance to talk to the owner, great guy! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Best breakfast in town! The gravy stack is amazing. Their chili is delicious and Papa's secret taco sauce is incredible. I always order extra sauce on everything.

The service was great and the place was clean. The food was okay. It was hot (temperature) and had a good amount of spice. We had breakfast burritos, smothered. We would have liked the eggs done a little less and the hash-browns cooked a little more. The green chili sauce was chicken stock based with green chili and corn starch ... maybe a little granulated garlic, not spectacular but not bad. We would go back to try some other things. The people were very nice!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
