High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

What's a shame is that the time before this that we had visited, everything was spot on. That wasnt the case a few nights ago. We were their last customer of the night, and it felt like just that. The waitress seemed only interested in getting rid of us. When asking where the sides were on the menu, she sighed and said, "appetizers are on the front page." Apparently their waitresses don't know the difference between sides and appetizers. I had to reword it to "what comes with this steak" for her to comprehend me. My husband asked for a med-well and got mid-rare. It seemed that the theme of the night was "everyone just wants you to go away". I would have tolerated that had the food been outstanding, but it wasn't. A misleading sizzling plate arrived with our meatballs, to which our waitress said, "careful, hot", but the only thing hot was the plate itself. The meatballs? Lukewarm at best.

I don't normally review chains but this place has been a reliable find where I can count on a good meal at a reasonable price since I've moved to town. Have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. Every meal seems fresh and is tasty. Bar is always busy and often hard to find a seat. Surprised there are so many bad reviews, but most of them sound like alcoholics whining that their drinks aren't strong enough. If you're looking for a buzz, maybe this isn't the place. If you want a decent meal in a town with limited options, it definitely is. My only criticism is that several times I've been asked about dessert while I'm in the middle of a meal. Feels like I'm being pushed out the door. But it's a nice switch from the usual pokey service around here.

If I could I would give this place NO stars. We went out for a dinner date, we never have a sitter but we had one that night, We were hovered over by the wait staff. My husband had beer, he was driving, however I spent close to 70$ in drinks and had no buzz what so ever. My shots tasted completely watered down and they were 10$ a piece! My steak was blood red in the middle, I asked for well done. I will never EVER spend money at this establishment again because their service, food, and drinks are not worth the time or money! Our bill was over 120$ and I left that place feeling completely ripped off. I would have rather gone to Golden Corral, and they closed down... so I am not sure how this place is staying open! Save your money and dont waste your time... this is NOT your home town Applebees! This is the worst Applebees I have ever been to in my whole life! I am from the city and Applebees usually has decent food and decent service. These people in Alamogordo are not trained properly at all! As a franchise owner you have a responsibility to uphold the name on your billboard and this place gets a Negative 5 Stars from me!

Horrible! The waitress took our order and we never saw her again, she had other people bring our food. The chicken lime was burned and the fries were cold. On our way out the hostess was sitting by door with leg up. Horrible service!

Just passing through looking for a few drinks near our motel to discuss whats for dinner. We were greeted right away and sat at the bar must not be many bars in this town cuz it was filled to the rim with locals. The bartender ignored us for a minute and wasn't friendly and the drinks were pretty light. We had three each and left sober, walked to a place to eat nearby. Save your money and just stay sober instead of paying someone to keep you that way...

We ordered online to pickup at car side to go. Placed the order for a pickup time ~40 minutes later. We arrived at the scheduled time and after waiting, sat in the car an additional 15 minutes. When we finally received our food some was piping hot. Other items were cold and had obviously been sitting in the container for a while.

As others have mentioned, this is your typical Applebees experience-- but slightly less good. We ordered the Cowboy Burger and the Fish and Chips, as well as a French Onion Soup and Garden Salad. The burger was burnt and dry, and the least tasty Applebees burger husband has ever had, but the fish was fine. It is truly not worth spending your money on... really... but like we did, you will probably go anyway, eat some 'meh' food, and then think, "I should have just listened to those other Yelpers."

Worst Applebee's that I've been to. Ordered wings and Summer Shandy. Food arrived late, waitress totally forgot the Shandy. Had to remind her. Wings were not mixed with sauce properly. Some of them were totally dry. Didn't taste good at all. In the end, I had to leave both of them half empty. I'll never visit the place again. Suggestion: There are other options around. Head there.

I will never go back to Applebees again! I went with a group of friends, and the service was the WORST service I have ever had! If you go and your waiter is Walley, watch out! He took 30 minutes to take our order. My friend asked if he could take our order and he responded with "I don't know. Can I?" My jaw hit the ground. His rudeness was completely unnecessary. It only got worse from their. We had to ask for for refills, and for him to take our plates when we were done. We complained to the manager but I don't think anything was done because Walley continued to neglect our table. I even e-mailed corporate but I will never return to Applebees AGAIN!

This is the last time I will EVER be eating at an applebees what an awful experience... We waited almost an hour for a table which was fine we were already told there would be a wait as it was a Friday evening and they were busy.... Mistake number 1 was made with our drinks order my husband was given the wrong beer :/ apparently they didn't even have the beer he had ordered even though he had asked the waitress and she give him a list of what was on tap and what can I say about my cocktail.... It tasted like it was missing the alcohol... We ordered chips and dip for our starter it was ok nothing great I had to ask for a bigger bowl as the one the dip was served in was baby size and we couldn't even fit the chips into it:/ For our mains we ordered ribs and I ordered steak for the kids Mac and cheese.... Wow what they served us was disgusting my husbands ribs had been burnt to a crisp and they tried to cover it with the sauce :/ my steak was un cooked not even rare it wasn't cooked at all it looked like they put it on the grill flipped it straight over and put it on my plate (I asked for well done) the fries were COLD everything on my plate was un edible.... And please can someone tell me how you mess up Mac and cheese? It was over done and cold...... I immediately asked to speak to the manager after almost a 20 minute wait the manager came to our table we showed her our food which she offered to replace..... No way did we want to wait for more under done/ overcooked food so we asked for our bill..... The couple at the table next to us also sent back there steaks so we defiantly weren't the only ones served poor quality food that I wouldn't even give to my dog.... Don't waste your time on this place!!!!

I notice that most of the one-star reviews were from 2011, maybe they were having problems then, I don't recall. I've been eating at Applebee's as long as they've been open, and it's not significantly different than any other Applebee's that I've eaten at in a variety of states across the country. Any restaurant has variation, the staff or cook could be having a bad night, if you have a consistent series of bad visits, then it's probably time for a management change. One thing that I definitely like about the Alamogordo's Applebee's is the happy hour specials. They are much more liberal with their specials than even in Las Cruces. For example, the half price on all appetizers at night. Not in 'Cruces. Only certain appetizers, only on certain nights. Their current special of buy any drink after 9pm and get any burger on the menu for $5? I've not seen that anywhere else. And in my opinion, the Black & Bleu burger is well worth it, just hold the mushrooms for me. I do have a couple of complaints. First is the karaoke. I really wish they didn't have karaoke, I really do. But they do. So I ignore it as best I can. It used to be only on Thursday night, but now apparently it is also on the weekend. I can tolerate it and laugh at the people trying to sing, and on rare occasion someone who doesn't need a bucket to carry a tune sings and that's not too bad. Another complaint: they should know their hamburgers are a bit greasy, which I like, infinitely better than the burgers at Marie Calendar's, they should bring extra napkins without asking. But my biggest complaint about the burgers are the buns. The best way to prepare a bun for a hamburger is to toast it with some butter on it. This forms a moisture seal and prevents the hamburger's juices from causing the bun to fall apart before you finish your meal. A minor complaint: they could do a better job stocking the tables with sweeteners and ketchup. I run in to empty ketchup bottles more often than I like. But that's about it for complaints, which I consider trifles. For the most part, the service that I have gotten here has always been acceptable. They're sometimes a little slow on keeping my iced tea refilled. Again, a trifle. Now let me give them a major compliment. I went in late one evening, ordered a burger, and was working on my laptop reviewing some photos to be edited. I was in absolutely no hurry. I knew they'd just seated a big church group of 40 people and I ordered as soon as the waiter took my tea order. A little while later the manager came out and said that my burger had been delivered to the wrong table, and that they were going to comp it. It was really not neccessary, I would have been perfectly happy with a free dessert. I got my burger, it was perfectly done, and I tipped the waiter on the full amount as if the burger had not been free. My wife and I are regulars. I'm frequently recognized by the hostesses, which is nice. I can't recall any problems that I've had with the food in all the times that I've eaten here. It's always been hot and flavorful. They provide me with malted vinegar when I order fish & chips, apparently malted vinegar is prohibited at the Applebee's in Milwaukee. They are prompt with to-go boxes, they don't question me setting aside french fries for my dog on a side napkin. In fact, when we lamented that we'd forgotten to set some aside for our dog, the waitress brought us more. My personal favorites: the Cowboy Burger and the Black & Bleu burger, I sometimes get the boneless buffalo wings and chicken quesadillas (eating half of each and taking the other half home for a later meal), honestly they're one of the better burgers in town. And the $5 burger after 9pm is a fantastic deal, especially since iced tea counts as a drink for the purposes of this special. For dessert, my wife and I will frequently split a chocolate mousse shooter, it's a great deal for $2 and perfectly satisfying as a dessert that won't leave you bloated after a good meal. So no complaints, really, overall. I'm sorry that so many people had bad experiences and gave it one star. I think normally they're better than that. I would give them 3-4 stars, but I think Applebee's deserves a better average, so I'm sticking with giving them five.

Service was very poor, portions were small. This is a place to avoid, certainly not worth the money and the long wait for service.

When giving feedback I try to be mild and at the same time give my honest opinion. The dinner we had at this Applebee's was so terrible that I prefer not to be mild. Where to begin...our order: chips and queso, bacon cheeseburger, quesadilla burger, two children's cheeseburger meals, and drinks. All were horrible and definitely not worth the price paid. The meager amount of queso in the bowl was sad. We didn't know appetizers were half price until ordering, but we also didn't know Applebee's would recoup the loss of money by serving only half the appetizer. In addition, the chips were actually stale. Stale! Both the adult burgers were pink inside and one was red (all ordered well done). The bacon cheeseburger was the same size of a quarter pounder and the amount of fries was equivalent to a medium fry at McDonalds...the difference was that the Applebee's burger was more expensive and tasted worse. Why didn't we return them? First, they should have been cooked properly the first time, and second, our server was busy talking to her friends so she didn't check on us until roughly 10 minutes after we received the food. The fries, well...the small amount we had, were very soft, had zero crispiness and tasted uncooked. I felt like I was just throwing my money away. On to the children's meals which were a waste of money! The burger buns were burnt, the cheeseburgers were minute, and the applesauce came in a container. How fun! A metal covered container when we go out to eat at a restaurant. My daughter looked at it and didn't want it. Can we not put it in a bowl with maybe a dash of cinnamon on top? At least attempt to make it look like something you want to eat. She gets little containers of applesauce like that for school lunch - shouldn't a dinner out be more special? The night we went was kids night and both meals were .99 cents. I can honestly say they weren't even worth the .99 cents paid when it came to the quality. In closing, as we were almost done with our meal, a single older gentleman sitting next to us who had eaten one of the steaks on the menu said these exact words to his server. "I don't know who you have to tell, but that was the worst steak I have had in a long time." I feel I am doing him an honor by mentioning his complaint. I can tell you that my family will never go to Applebee's again. Our previous visit a couple months ago was bad, and this one just verified that fact. Bad tasting food, tiny portions (at least serve a little more than a McDonald's meal), and prices that don't equal the quality of what you should be getting. The only positive point to mention about the evening...I was lucky enough not to pay full price for the kid's meals.

This is your typical Applebees. There are always slight differences, but I've found them to be relatively minor in the face of the staff's devotion to service. In the past, this restaurant has had difficulty with attracting good waitstaff. Often times, I've found myself wishing that I'd gone for a fast-food burger instead of ordering seven dollars of burned meat. Lately, the restaurant seems to have found better help. Maybe the managers were tired of staff visiting with each other in the bar instead of taking care of people. However it happened, this Applebee's is much improved over the last year, and is probably worth visiting again.

Food was so so, it's Applebee's so I don't expect greatness but at least it's consistent. Unfortunately this particular location had the worse service ever. Took 20-25 min just to get our drinks. Waitress was rude, short and to busy socializing to actually work.

Extremely slow service, food was okay. The waitress was taking care of her toddler at work. This was my first time and my last time here.
