Stopped by for lunch after leaving Guernsey, WY. Two signs out front waitress and cook wanted. This should have been a clue. Walked in counter loaded with dirty dishes several tables needing cleaned off. Picked a clean table waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged. Waitress comes over takes our order. Three waters and one coffee we sit there for 15 minutes waiting for our drinks. Mind you there was only one other table sitting. Food arrived nothing special.

Food made how it's supposed to be made. Very good! Order yourself a Rummy. It's a Coke with a shot of butterscotch. Very good treat.

I had the Chicken Steak skillet breakfast. It was a really good meal. Everything was seasoned great! I also had coffee with it too, and even the coffee was good too. I also I had sourdough toast to go with it. Everything was great! The diner felt like it was straight from the 50s. It was really good

We recently moved to the area and, given the unique appearance and business hours of Penny's, thought we would stop in here for dinner one night. It was just after 8 p.m. when we arrived, which is fairly late for this sleepy little corner of Nebraska; Penny's was likely the only establishment open from Morrill to Scottsbluff. I was immediately struck by the aging decor -- peeling paint and an overall dingy feel -- in stark contrast with the attractive exterior. Trying not to rush to judgment -- because who doesn't love a good dive? -- I reluctantly ordered a couple of a la carte items off of their rather meager menu. (Mind you, this was after ten minutes of waiting for our sever to finish socializing with his co-worker and take our order). Fast forward twenty minutes. We are still waiting for our food. The place isn't hopping even by Morrill standards, but the employees were so chatty with the couple of older gentlemen who came in that they can't seem to do their jobs with any great speed. A combination of boredom and eagerness to receive my order had me clocking the cook, which was a huge error in judgment. I watched in horror as he used his bare hands to dip my french toast in the egg batter -- all the while clinging to a dim hope that he practices good sanitation habits and will wash his hands afterward. Once the slices were sizzling on the grill, I watched as he wiped his egg-saturated fingers on the denim jeans -- the same jeans that were sagging halfway down his rear. The cook then took his filthy, eggy hands and collected a stack of dinner plates for our food. Yay cross-contamination! Needless to say, my intestines are experiencing relative discomfort in the wake of my dining experience at Penny's. I won't be returning.

The service is excellent! Our waitress was attentive and friendly! The pancakes are bigger than the plates and fluffy! The sausage and bacon are tasty and hearty! The portions will leave you stuffed ! They have very affordable senior options and if you stay at the Oak Tree Inn.... you eat breakfast for free or get a great discount applied to your bill. We will definitely return!!

On a road trip to the middle of no where, hunger hit and we found Penny's. Having been to a couple in the past, we stopped. I can't refuse a breakfast menu in the middle of the day. I figure most places are only as good as the cook. This is a typical diner. I ordered one of the breakfast combos and my friend got a burger. No disappointment by either of us. The breakfast almost seemed like too much food. The "side" of pancakes that came with it were as big as the plate. The burger was fresh. The fries were good. The coffee was good. No complaints and will stop again.

I have had many meals here and all have been delicious. The service is great even when the server is also the cook. The coffee could be better. But I am a bit of a coffee snob. Excellent food, friendly service. The manager is even working hard to make this place top notch.
