Great food. The shrimp taco was very flavorful. We were given chips and salsa when we sat down. The salsa had a hint of BBQ along with some heat. The pinto beans were served hot and creamy. There is plenty of use of queso fresco that helps to enhance the flavors. After our meal I was told they have hotter sauce. Tried it and it has great flavor but was not very hot for my pallet. I would caution others as I can stand a LOT of heat. I plan on going again.

Stopped here on a whim. Great outdoor seating and our waitress was amazing. Attentive and fun! Food was fresh and really good and the beer was nice and cold. Definitely some if the best Mexican I've had since moving from Phoenix. And my daughter devoured the fried ice cream. Great way to burn an afternoon.

Service was to fine....chicken quesadilla was bad... Shrimp taco was flavorless and cold.. Chicken fajita was boring . Guacamole was fine...We will not be coming back

Wow! New favorite place HANDS DOWN! I still love the shrimp tacos from the first time I went. My husband is very fond of the margaritas. ;) The enchilada sauce is delish! I love that they are so sensitive to everyone's dietary needs. If you are gluten free, no problem. They will make your enchiladas with a corn shell instead of flour! The menu is made to match the modern day lifestyle and the authentic indulgence! Way to go Maximo's!! If you haven't been there yet.... you are truly missing out!

Service was slow...waited a while for food and even longer on refills. I had to flag down the server and ask.

Chips were too salty and not very flavorful. Sauce tasted like tomato paste with more salt. Tacos are nothing to write home about. Margarita was good. Won't be back.

I would highly recommend the chorizo nachos....the flavors were clean and refreshing. The shredded Beef Enchiladas with red sauce has a bit too much nutmeg for my liking...it has a good kick to it. The plating was perfect and very clean. I usually don't eat the beans when I order a Mexican dish but these were delicious! The complimentery chips and salsa were decent. The salsa has a smokey taste to it...youre not gonna get chopped onions and tomatoes in your salsa. But the taste was interesting (good). The service was also very pleasant. I will definately be back.

First things first: Way too expensive. With that out of the way: Service my first time here was horrible. Came with my girlfriend and her friend...they were so irritated after the drinks and appetizers that we went next door at 6:15. Happy hour ends at 6pm and the girls ordered drinks at 5:58 to beat the 6pm cutoff and were denied. The second time we came the service was below average. If you are going to offer a special for $15 the waitress should know what it is in it and tell you the price. Ours didn't. I assumed I was getting an average or so Enchilada like the menu. $4.50 for a bottle of beer? Outrageous! Premium margarita using Sauza? Really? Maybe you could get away with Jose but you are using Sauza? Wow! This day and age and in America we expect Patron, Cabo Wabo or better in a premium margarita. Queso dip comes in a petri dish, so does the Guacamole, salsa, and pico. When (not if) you run out of the complementary salsa they charge you another $1. I don't get it. Enchiladas are small. Overall, everything is in small portion. Enchiladas are the size of Carlos O'Kelly's enchiladas. Americans, particularly in Nebraska like to eat a lot of food. And we don't like to pay a fortune for it, especially mexican food. It is a societal and community expectation here to get good portions at a reasonable price. Good addition to the area and food tastes pretty good but our expectations were not met twice. Maybe 3 stars but it's not "ok" as captioned by the 3 star yelp rating. We have experienced better (2 stars). Service one star maybe. I'm shocked by the better reviews.

LOVE Maximo's!! Went there for the first time on a Friday evening and sat on the porch. The food was really really good. I had the mix of enchiladas and my pals had the seafood special that looked great and tasted great according to my pals. The service was friendly and on top of things and Maximo even popped out to say hello. This is on Main Street of Old Elkhorn. A really nice location as well. I'll be back soon!!

Great waitress. Had the white cheese dip it was amazing. The margaritas tastes fresh not like it came from some store bought mix. Will be back.

I consider myself a huge taco snob- and the shrimp taco was one of the best I've ever had. The fish taco was also excellent, but got a little soggy and became hard to eat. The servers are very kind and the atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. I highly recommend!

This is our second time eating at Maximo's. The first visit was awesome. We had a group of 8 adults. Food and drinks were great, place was packed on a Saturday night. So we came back this evening with our kids. The food was as good as the first time but the service was very, very slow. We had to request things twice, waited way to long to have to ask for refills on chips and drinks, etc. which was very disappointing as we were one of two tables It the restaurant. The waitress seemed to be more into her phone then helping us but food was great so we will be giving it another try.

Almost went with a 3 star. Above average and way above the chain places, but cant really say anything special. Tacos were good. Tried three varieties. No carnitas tacos? Chips and salsa marginal and 99c extra for more chips only. Not enough salsa. Enchilada mole sauce had good flavor and nice spice. Nice inside/decor. Service was fine. Rice was a little dry. Tacos $2.49. Meals $10-$14. Nice add to the area.

The fish tacos were excellent and very fresh. They do not have a kids menu yet but they will make mac and cheese for kids that's also very tasty (homemade-not out of a box). We will be back!

A little slow on service and food wasn't anything out of the ordinary. They use a brown enchilada sauce, which sweet with a kick and their salsa taste like they mixed a red enchilada sauce with salsa. The atmosphere was nice and would love to have margaritas outside when it gets warmer.

Outstanding!! Two thumbs up! The food is fresh, authentic, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, place is new and clean! Nothing like it in Omaha!! Can't wait for patio season......oooohhhh, margaritas in the sunset!

Fresh fare Mexican food in the heart of Elkhorn downtown. The Chef knows his stuff. Many authentic and fresh flavors in every bite. We had the veggie pizza as an appetizer which can also work as a entrée. The pizza just blew us away. The next thing we tried was the veggies enchilada with red sauce. Not too impressed with the red sauce but over all the dish was OK. The rice could have been cooked a little more. Enchiladas filled with fresh and good tasting vegetables that made up for everything. Service was excellent. They do not mind kids. Will be returning soon and often. This one is a keeper for Elkhorn downtown. A little on the pricey side for Mexican food but the chef prepared dishes make it worth the money.

Great experience in old town Elkhorn. Food was outstanding especially if you like authentic Mexican fare. Decent tequila menu. The best part was the service we got from Lacey our server, she is high energy and went out of her way to make us feel at home.

What a delightful surprise in old downtown Elkhorn. We went on a Saturday evening about 6:30. We didn't have to wait but we got the last open table. The food was delicious. Very authentic tasting. I got the chicken enchiladas. Lacey, our very attentive server suggested getting them with cheese sauce. Queso fresco was sprinkled on the enchiladas and black beans. Yum! My husband got the trio of enchiladas with beef, chicken and seafood. He enjoyed all three thoroughly. My daughter had fish tacos were excellent. The fish tasted fresh and the sauce complemented the fish nicely. Check out this great local find.

The food was awful. Way too spicy. I've had authentic Mexican in many restaurants, and it is not authentic. We won't be back... I will say the service was very very good.

Decided to try based on good reviews. We were disappointed. First, the menu was TINY and half American food. We were thinking, 'really, this is it?' I had chicken enchiladas with the cheese sauce. Very bland. I would have added salsa, but the two options were spicy, which was made with a roasted pepper (not like salsa at all) or mild, which tasted like plain tomato sauce with a few things blended in. The kids had ground beef tacos and nachos, and the meat looked tasty but dripped EVERYWHERE. My friend ordered a pork entree with fries. She seemed to end up with a kids plate, but she ate anyway... Half-way in the staff came out and realized they gave her the wrong thing. She said to forget about it and she would eat it, but when the bill came they hadn't removed the $11 item and replaced it with anything cheaper. Disappointing. Expensive. It seems like more of a place to get drinks and sit on the patio.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
