Have eaten here a few times and have always great food and great service! Clean and friendly people, right in the middle of town. Would recommend to everyone, open from 6am to 8pm!

Fantastic, food was fresh, meals were flavorful and cooked to perfection. My husband and I came across this gem on one of our road trips ( we travel cross country every year for a month, just for kicks and new food experiences). We decided to give this place a try. At first we were worried, it was empty, a red flag we thought. Wrong.. We live in NJ ' home of dinners' and this place put all jersey diners to shame. I love it when a great meal comes together.

Real maple syrup from trees IS thin, almost watery, and not overly sweet. I think the reviewer who wanted thick, sweet syrup is probably used to the fake "pancake" syrup.

The only reason it gets 2 stars is because of the pancakes which were amazing. We were told to sit anywhere by the waitress as she was vacuuming and then proceeded to wait 5 minutes for a menu. Literally. I timed it. Then it took a ridiculously long time to get our items , and omelet and pancakes, as there were only 2 other couples in there. The other waitress was ridiculous! She was stomping around the place as if she was angry and then we could hear her in the kitchen talking about how "we should do shots!!" And proceeded to pour 3 shots of crown royal at the breakfast bar area and take them out of sight, obviously to drink them. Oh, and it was 11:00 am on a Sunday. I wish I was making this up. Not so much. We won't be back.

I did not care for their syrup. When it comes to my French Toast or pancakes I love nice sweet some what thick syrup. Their's was like soy sauce, I actually thought I had poured some sauce on my French Toast. The taste was not no syrup taste either. I did enjoy the atmosphere (except for the elderly people staring my man and I down) and the staff seemed friendly but I don't think I will go here again.

Very nice, good menu, clean, friendly. Lots of beef in the soup and a great beer menu featuring Montana Micro-brews.

I was in the midst of reflecting upon the nothingness on the big, wide roads and the gigantic oil refinery nearby, and whether I had any regrets of choosing a country-boy husband who happened to be from the great state of Montana, when the vintage model Chrysler New Yorker in which I was a passenger croaked to a stop in front of the Owl's Diner. The cozy dining room welcomed us and a cheerful waitress guided us to a table by the window. Its menu of dishes from organic and grass-fed ingredients certainly did not match its more humble facade. I was particularly shocked to see a soba noodle soup menu item with organic ingredients, I was tempted but I went for the burger even though I don't frequently eat burgers but since I was in Montana, I felt that I had to. The burger tasted fine, not out-of-this-world but pretty good! The waitress was attentive so no complaints there! In the end, the Owl's Diner made me feel better that you can indeed have great food even in Laurel, and my budding regrets of marrying a country boy slowly evaporated in the Montana heat. So the next time you find yourself in Laurel and after asking yourself WHY, do head to Owl's for a quality meal at a budget-friendly price :)!

This place is a diamond in an epic rough. Knowing nothing about the owl diner in advance, I agreed to go here for dinner to humor my older parents, so I was shocked-- SHOCKED to find, in Laurel Montana of all places, a diner that serves sustainable, local, produce. I had a bison burger that was just as good as (maybe better than) one I had in NY a few months ago. In Laurel Montana! Hearty recommendation.

Monte Cristo with sliced American cheese instead of Swiss, soggy French toast for the bread. Ice cold French fries. Food was horrible. Had to wait nearly two hours with all the other frustrated customers. Service was terrible!!! Save your stomach, go anywhere else.

The Owl has always had great food and great service. A couple of years ago they went from a small town cafe "Perkins" style menu to a a slightly higher end almost bistro/cafe higher end cafe style menu. Along with the menu change, they also are now buying locally sustained food, grown and raised by local farmers and ranchers. Prices went up a bit, but the food is excellent, and it supports our local Montana food growers and ranchers. The breakfasts are excellent. On this last visit, myself and my family (my wife, 6yr old and 3 yr old) whet for dinner. I had the 8oz. chicken fried steak (CFS) with mashed potatoes and gravy. I was very impressed - the CFS was 8oz of beef, flattened and panko breaded and laid on a good portion of very well seasoned mashed potatoes, coupled with a side of halved brussel sprouts cooked in what tasted like clarified butter and salt and pepper. My wife has the bison burger, my son had the smaller portion of the dinner (4oz.) CFS with fries and my little girl had the fish and chips. My meal was about $14 and the total bill was around $40 for all of us. I don't think that is too bad for a higher end cafe that supports local food suppliers. If you read the other "review" by user KM...please ignore it. Thanks for spending your $$ locally in Laurel, however, we find that people who are not from Montana will not understand what Laurel is all about. They are best off staying back where the came from. I personally like the menu change, although, honestly we don't eat there as often now because of the higher prices. Despite that, if you read this review and want good food with great quality local ingredients, you should try The Owl - you won't be disappointed.

I found the review by "k.m." rather offensive. The one by "Mike R." is helpful--except for the comment about outsiders. We're from Colorado and visit Laurel regularly. (We have family there.) We find the people we meet there very friendly and welcoming. While the town itself doesn't have a lot to offer to the tourist, it's in a great location if you wish to visit the surrounding attractions. It's only 10 miles from Billings, but their hotel rates are far cheaper. We ate at the Owl recently and had a nice conversation with its owner. It was refreshing to hear how much care goes into making their dishes. Mike R. already wrote about that. They have a professionally trained chef who added items to the menu that one might be surprised to find in a small town restaurant. I had Chicken Cordon Bleu, which was absolutely delicious. My wife had a simple spaetzle dish prepared with cabbage and bits of bacon. She loved it. The restaurant is unpretentious and they have great food and service. Their prices are very reasonable--especially if you consider what you'd be paying for similar dishes in Billings. By far they're the best restaurant in Laurel. If you're wondering what places you might visit near Laurel, I'll list a few: Chief Joseph Monument, Yellowstone River, Charles Ringer's studio in Joliet, Billings, Red Lodge, Beartooth Highway, and Yellowstone National Park.
