I used to eat here a lot, the only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the food is ok. However, I had a bad experience here recently, and wrote to the business to try and let them know and resolve it, and was met with a very disappointing response, which I do not wish to get into publicly. Suffice it to say, due to my recent experience and the response I received when trying to privately resolve the issue, I will not be returning to this establishment at either location.

New feel with the spirit of the original Steve's. Still offering friendly service and great food!

When Steve's first opened we always enjoyed eating there. However, their motto now is: quantity over quality. The fruit cups are less than they serve in a chain restaurant. Only melons. I asked why they don't add local fruits or vegetables from the Farmers market. The staff didn't seem interested in my opinion. The cafe' is a favorite with people who want to eat alot and don't care about the taste (look at the people who walk thru the door). This morning we were there (the last time). I had a request and the manager answered very snippy. i don't know what her name is. I rather eat at Sheila's or Perkins from now on.

Great, good quality food and excellent serving staff. The owners are local folks with ample experience in the restaurant business. The homemade sausage is excellent. Troy, who has waited on us several times, is excellent and always has a few fun surprises up his sleeve! That aside, all of the servers we've had have been pleasant and accommodating.

Steve's food and service always exceed our expectations. It's the only breakfast place we go to in Helena now.

So disappointed. We love the original place but this was horrible. I ordered a veggie omelet and found multiple pieces of different types of meat. I told the waitress and after 10 minutes of doing nothing we finally asked the plate be removed. She said the owner was coming over - he NEVER did. They didn't ask to make me another and never apologized. The service is terrible, the food cross contaminated. Boycott is starting now!

I'm always on the lookout for great gluten free places to eat, & Steve's cafe is definitely one!! We were visiting Helena & found this breakfast gem. They have a great gluten free menu, including GF huckleberry pancakes that are extraordinary!!! After 11 years of being GF, I can't remember any other restaurant that's served GF pancakes (& if I've had any, they definitely weren't this great-wow!!) Wish we lived closer!!!

I would leave zero stars if I could!! DO NOT GO!! I came here today for the chili relleno. Waited 30 minutes to be seated. Took my sever just a few minutes to come take my order (she was great) but when I ordered the special.... she told me they were out! This was 12:30 on Saturday. Thought it was supposed too be an entire weekend special. At least that's what I was told. Anyway, so I couldn't have what I came there for and waited so long in line for, I ordered a sausage patty and eggs and pancake side instead. (Which I can get anywhere else in town for much cheaper) 45 minutes later our food arrived. Pancakes were white on top, burnt on the bottom. (How do you mess up pancakes Steve) sausage patty was over done too all hell! I mean burnt!!! Nothing left of it!! Say 1/4 pound patty was about an ounce. And my eggs, which I ordered over medium, were brown on the outside and damn near raw in the middle. As for my wife's food.... she ordered Italian sausage and eggs. The sausage was ice cold in the middle full of fennel that she is still burping up and picking out of her teeth. Her eggs ordered scrambled, came out burnt brown. Couldn't eat them. Hashbrowns had good flavor. All though the ones on my plate were white and undercooked and the ones on my wife's plate were burnt and over cooked. Not sure how they got best breakfast ever.... first time here last time here!!!!

I tend to agree with Jill- I think they've over-extended themselves by opening up a new place- I'm giving it a rest and hopefully down the road they'll get it together here.

My friend and I went here for dinner here thinking it was J. B. Restaurant. But I guess the restaurant has changed ownership. Yes, they serve dinner on Friday and Saturday between 4:30pm and 8:30pm. The food here is good. Troy, our sever, was very attentive and helpful.

I had the hash brown two eggs and corn-beef for breakfast. The service was wonderful. Coffee kept coming and the server was very attentive the entire time we were there. The food was on point and I had an overall positive experience. The next time I'm in Montana this will be my breakfast stop all the time.

Good food with nice size portions. We had the corned beef hash and the huckleberry pancakes. Both very satisfying! Good local spot to stop. Staff very friendly. Offered a cup of coffee while waiting for our table.

A very popular place to eat in the Helena area. I have eaten here several times and the food has always been good. On this morning I ordered the full stack of Huckleberry pancakes with huckleberry sauce and maple syrup. I ordered the full stack thinking that the half stack would not be enough to eat, boy was I wrong! The pancakes were delicious and I had enough leftovers for 2 more mornings of eating. I also really enjoyed the coffee there. The service was exceptional and very friendly. I would go back anytime I am in Helena.

Best breakfast in Helena!! I highly recommend the Cafe Monte Cristo, it's delicious!! The service is hit or miss, but because the food is so good I'm still giving it 5 stars. Also, they have the best Carrot Cake I've ever had!!

My first visit to Steve's Cafe but not my last! I am here just for today on business. I found some great folks to hike with this morning and asked for recommendations from the locals for the best place for breakfast and coffee in Helena. I ordered the veggie omelet, add sausage, extra avocado, side of bacon. The omelet comes with two side items, I chose hash browns and "fruit cup". The fruit was actually fresh cut fruit, very good! All the food was cooked nicely. Initially, my service was quite slow. I had seven minutes from the time I ordered a cup of coffee and ice water to the time my waiter (Daniel) brought my drinks. I only noted the time because I was trying to order before my work phone call started. I had to write down my food order since the conference was starting and I hadn't seen my drinks yet. After that tho, the service was more than made up for by the team work between Daniel and a waitress, Terri. Together, the team work was great and the service was very good! I sent my side of bacon back to please crisp up, the cook did a nice job without burning the bacon before sending it back to me. Overall, great experience and I believe the locals when they say it's the best place for breakfast in Helena.

Wow, crazy busy on a Sunday morning. But WORTH the wait. The eggs Benedict were outstanding and the service and staff were friendly and working their butts off. Can't wait to come back.

Crazy busy but since I was by myself I got a seat at the counter right away. Got an omelette with ham, cheese and spinach. Despite being packed my coffee was always full and my food came out reasonably fast. Hash browns are nothing to write home about but the omelette and pancakes were great. Everyone was very friendly.

Food was "pretty good", but way overpriced!!! I've been there for breakfast 3 times & will not go back. The pancakes are ALWAYS very dry & there really isn't anything special that you couldn't get elsewhere. I went to the new Steve's on Montana & it took 20 minutes just to get a menu! Not worth it at all!!! I'll go through McDonalds drive thru & get much better pancakes at half the price! Not trying to be a jerk, just being honest.

Over priced frozen food. I had the chicken fried steak. Definetly not homemade neither was gravy. The only thing nice about this place is dining room. The food was not homemade that's a lie. Tasted like every other frozen food joint. If your gonna claim to be the best you should serve the best product. Not frozen crap.
