All I have to say is Wop Chop. So good. Didn't need ketchup or mayo or anything like that. Just pure deep fried goodness. Our the woman behind the counter was super nice. Plus I loved the Evel Knieval decor. Loved it!

With all the great reviews, and the fact the restaurant was on Man Vs Food, I was excited to try this famously talked about wop chop. However, I was disappointed with both the sandwich and the fries. The sandwich lacked in flavor and was even burnt. I didn't even bother finishing the fries because they were soaked in grease and were not appetizing whatsoever. This is not a place I would go back to. I gave it three stars in light of how many people like the restaurant. I will say that the service is friendly and the prices are very cheap. I would only recommend this place to someone who simple wants a cheap meal.

It's a dive bar. That's what it is. But thanks to Adam Richman, it's the place I want to drive through Butte, Montana again for. If you don't know, they have a sandwich called the "Wop Chop". What it is is a battered/fried pork sandwich. We don't know what they use in the batter, but it's addictive like CRACK. Service is delightful. I think the cost is $5.25 or $5.75 for one. Me and my (then) fiancee (now wife) were driving through and grabbed one. SHOULD HAVE GRABBED TWO (or more). Remember, it's a tiny little dive bar, so if you want to try it make sure you remember that's what it looks like and that you don't let the exterior make you think twice. This is the place!

Stopped for a Wop Chop on our way home from Missoula today. I would never stop at a joint like this, but by passenger knew the drill. The pork chop sandwich and fries was $5.75. The place was packed with all 8 booths full and the counter full of working folks getting lunch. The waitress took our order, to go, and it was cooked up and in a paper sack in about 6-7 minutes. Don't expect any frills here, but quick efficient service, great prices and people are here to get their grubb. Looking forward to my next trip West on I-90, make sure you stop at Montana Street Exit, its rights there.

Passing through Butte with a friend around 8:30 and needed something to eat. I am so glad we discovered the Freeway Tavern. First, you know you are dealing with awesome when you see a "No Out of State Checks!" sign. Awesome. Second, I think the dad from Red Dawn was in there ("AVENGE MEEEE!"). Third, I don't remember what I paid, but I remember thinking, "Man, that is cheap for a good pork sandwich and two beers." Do yourself a favor next time you're passing through Butte and stop in and enjoy it!

Had the Wop Chop, was tasty but not something I would go outta my way for....but to each his own. CASH ONLY!!!!

This is the best pork chop in Butte American. It is little known and does not advertise. The wop chop is a good tenderloin with breading that is better than its rivals. The bun is normal. I'd recommend you head down to the Freeway for a wop chop (or go to Nancy's for a Pasty) if you're in town and want some Butte fare. Don't expect frills here. You get a booth by the window and order the wop chop while the locals stare at your yuppy arse with contempt. It's all good. They just wish they had your toothy grin......

Everyone talks about this "WOP CHOP" sandwich at the Freeway Tavern. Well I went there for lunch today and ordered one up. Just like the other review don't expect much. This place is a hole in the wall ,but don't judge this book by it's cover. It may be a hole in the wall but some of the best tasting food comes out of hole in the walls. The Wop chop was very juicy a tastey. The fries on the other had could be great if they were cooked fully. If you enjoy fries that have a raw crunch to them you will love these fries. But overall the Freeway Tavern is a perfect place to grab lunch or to fill your late night munchie cravings all for around $5.00. Cash only. I would have rated the Freeway 4 stars but . I am currently having some bathroom issues, if you know what I mean and I don't know what caused it. I will try the wop chop later this week to see if the Issue occurs again. If not I will edit my review.

Just thinking about my last Wop Chop makes my mouth water. I need to plan a trip to Butte soon. If you have not had, it is a definite must for everybody. Don't expect the decor to do justice to this sandwich but just like Butte, the beauty lies beneath the rought exterior.

Traveling from chicago my boyfriend introduced me to this gem. Best Pork sandwich ever!!! I love the WHOP CHOP!!!!!!

Muzz and Stan's Freeway is an institution. Always regulars at the bar and the WopChop is still the best pork chop sandwich anywhere. Never pass up a chance to stop and have one when I travel through Butte. A must stop and eat place!

I don't know if I'll ever come out to Butte, Montana again. But I must say that while the wop chop LOOKS pretty dry, it's not. In fact, it's quite juicy and flavorful. If I was in the area again, I'll get it again!

A true Butte classic. It is full of great drinks, characters and Butte history. I remember coming here with my Dad as a child and enjoying the $8.00 9oz steaks with jojos and don't forget the amazing Wop Chop. A must stop if your in the area.

We were driving from the Glacier Park area to Yellowstone and hunger hit. As always I turned to Yelp, but this time I was disappointed. The "legendary" Wop Chop is decently tender and reasonably tasty, but overwhelmed by greasy batter coating. The staff was nice and the beer was cold, but there's nothing special about this place or the Butte fried pork chop tradition. Sorry, look for a good burger or Bbq.

  • Craig N.

Great local place just off the highway; it's a fun little hole in the wall. Like many other people posted, I would definitely recommend the Wop Chop. However, if your looking for a good beer selection this is not the place. They had Bud Lite and... more Bud Lite on tap. But it does go well with the Wop Chop! Make sure you bring cash because they don't accept credit cards.

  • Carolyn P.

Came by to try the legendary wop chop. It was tasty, as was were the house cut fries. It's the combo of pork, pickles and onion on a bun that make this great. I was wishing that I'd shared that rather than order the HUGE platter of fried gizzards: again tasty but needed a dose of zip. They are an acquired taste and after all, this is a tiny bar at the side of the freeway! Totally worth the stop.

This place is a "must stop" if your traveling through Butte and looking for a great place to eat some lunch or dinner! It's a little hole in the wall, but it has loads of character, great service and delicious food! You can tell this was a hang out Evil Kneivel by looking at all of the Kneivel memorabilia and photos. Or just ask one of the local patrons sitting at the bar eating some fried chicken or a whop chop!! That's right, a whop chop! Food~ The Freeway Tavern serves up sizzling hot fried chicken and "jojos" fried potato wedges. This fried chicken is as good as it gets even for a southern boy like me. Or you must try their pork chop sandwich called "The Wop Chop." is a battered, deep fried pork shop served with just a couple of pickles, some onion on the side and yellow mustard. It may not sound appetizing but it's sinfully delish!! Restaurant~ Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is tiny ~ a hole in the wall. They don't take credit cards, so bring some cash-o-la! I have recommended this place to several friends traveling through Butte and all of them fell in love with this place. So take some friends with you, belly up to the bar, order some cold ones and enjoy a wop chop or some tasty fried chicken. Pour a 40 in memory of Evil Kneivel :-) I hope to see you there!

Well I didn't get to try the famous Wop Chop because I sat down and was completely ignored for 15 mins. The Place wasn't even even busy. I figure it's because I didn't show up in a Harley.

  • Nicholas F.

Driving through, stopped and picked up a couple wop chops. Pretty good sandwich and very reasonably priced. Not much else to say..... Wop Chop

  • Joan L.

Small, bar atmosphere. The fried chicken was hot and good. The "wow chop" or battered and fried pork chop was hot and just the right amount of greasy. And $ definitely made it worth the stop.

Passing threw we read great reviews, but at first glance the lack of windows suggests a gentlemen's club. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It had a decent selection of beers, the staff was pleasant and attentive, and great food. The WOP CHOP should not be missed.

Yum! Wop Chop is really great. Drove through on a road trip and this place does not disappoint!

  • Ted B.

I learned about the Dirty Girl (Headframe Spirits Orphan Girl Cream Bourbon + Root Beer) from this place. We tried Pork Chop John's and the Wop Chop again this year, and the Wop Chop improved from the one I had last time. Although I didn't have them side-by-side again, I did enjoy the fresh french fries, but I like the fresh-cut, soggy fries like they make here.

    (5)
  • Bob F.

Killer spot in Butte! Wop Chop is a Montana classic, be sure to douse in the hot mustard. Can't believe this good of food costs under $6!!!! Great dive bar atmosphere and service. A humane draft beer (MT brewed IPA????) would take this joint to 5 stars immediately.

  • Adam H.

So personally im not a fan of the natural cut greasy fries. They get soggy fast and just not good for me. But after spending some time in Butte I finally started ordering there famous fried pork chop sandwiches and this is the place to get it. Trust me when the locals go out for a fried pork chop its the freeway. The problem is other joints in town try to get on board with the trend and basically take ground pork in a small patty and fry it. This Whop Chop is an actual pork chop Fried!!! And soooooo good.
