This place is so amazing compared to all the other B&Bs we stayed in on our trip - I can't believe it is so affordable. Be sure to take the tour (9:00-4:00 - free for guests) when you check in so you can see and experience the history of the whole house. It's like staying in a stunning museum. You have to adapt a little to century old bathroom styles - bathtub but no shower, need to pull a floorlamp over to provide bright light to shave by, etc. But it all adds to the spirit of being a part of history. The owners are friendly and treat you like family, while diligently working to keep this living treasure going - a huge job. Breakfast was tasty and enjoyable in the beautiful dining room with other interesting guests. You do need to be prepared to have your room tour-ready (luggage packed or out) by 9:00. We came back from breakfast and the room had been cleaned and made ready. So just plan to be packed if checking out or organized if not by 9:00. After 4:00 the house is all yours. This B&B was truly a highlight of our trip and I highly recommend it.

I had never seen the Copper King Mansion. It was after 5 on Saturday and we stopped to see if they gave tours on Sunday as it is the off season in the area. The sign on the door stated no Sunday tours during the winter season. So we walked around the outside, admiring the beautiful architecture. A gentleman was in the yard doing fall clean up, he acknowledged us and explained he was the owner. We chatted a bit and he took us inside for a quick tour of the main floor and then we discovered it was a B&B. To our delight there was one room left. We quickly booked our room and had a wonderful stay. The owners make you feel so at home and you get a tour in the morning that is absolutely amazing.

I had a great experience here. The architecture in this place is incredible. The details that have not been removed from this house are beautiful. If you want a modern 5 star hotel this is not what you're looking for. If you're willing to take in the beauty and history of this fabulous old home and want a homey, welcoming experience give this a try. Several of the bedrooms share a bathroom, the old multi head shower is amazing. If you're an architecture and history nerd you'll love it.

I have called 3 times and left messages about trying to make a reservation, as well as e-mailed....never a reply. I also stopped by during business hours to try to get a real human being and door was locked......guess I won't be staying here, very unwelcoming and poor customer service, and I haven't even been inside yet =( UPDATE: I visited this place for a wine soiree a few months ago and I must admit, the inside is unbelievable! The craftsmanship and character is beautiful and the history is intriguing BUT I am glad I did not make reservations to stay here (see above). I felt the house could have used some repairs and maintenance, not to change the character or give modern amenities, but just make it more comfortable accommodations. My advice, definitely visit this gem, but I don't think I'd recommend staying here.

This B&B is indeed reminiscent of a museum. More specifically, it's like stepping back in time, for it gives one the chance to experience the lap of luxury -- in the late 19th century, that is. For that reason alone, I recommend staying there. However, keep in mind that the lap of luxury has changed a bit over the last 120 years. Therefore, if you're thinking that this is going to be like most contemporary B&B experiences, be forewarned that it is a little more primitive than typical. However, it is certainly intriguing to sleep in the bedroom of one of the richest men of 19th century America, and to tour the first house to be electrified west of the Mississippi River! And, the plumbing is like nothing I've ever seen before. Clearly, the home's original owner, William Andrews Clark, was not only extremely wealthy, but he was also an advocate of what was, at that time, cutting-edge technology. As an aside, the owners claim to have wi-fi, but they do not readily make it available. I did ask, but the only person who knew anything about it was gone for the evening, and I never received any further information. My PC did pick up a signal, but it was too weak in that portion of the house to even try to connect, if I had even had the appropriate login information. Bottom line: Go there. See it. Just don't expect it to be as comfortable as modern lodging. If you have that mindset, you won't be disappointed.

Butte, Montana: Copper King Mansion is a bed and breakfast/local museum and previously home to William Andrews Clark, one of Butte's three Copper Kings. This mansion, built in 1888, was the 32 room home of Senator W.A. Clark from the early mining days. It has been restored with special emphasis on the frescoed ceilings and walls, stained-glass windows and nine hand-carved fireplaces and more. Another Yelp reviewer describes the Mansion: "The best way to describe this bed and breakfast is saying its like a museum that you would think you aren't allowed to touch anything, but you are sleeping in the beds there. The house looks just as it would have at the turn of the century and it exudes elegance."

This bed and breakfast was amazing. If you are looking for the creature comforts it may not be for you. If you are interested in history and would like to see some amazing early carpentry this is the place for you. The owners are very friendly and treated us great, I can't say enough about how great they were. I was in awe every time I looked around the rooms, it is truly like staying in a museum. A stay at the Copper King Mansion will give you something to talk about for many years. During our stay, the last living daughter of William A. Clark passed away at age 104. We will never forget this place and plan on coming back to visit as soon as possible. The owners are in the process of restoring the home and it will be even more amazing when they are finished. I would highly recommend the Copper King Mansion!

The best way to describe this bed and breakfast is saying its like a museum that you would think you aren't allowed to touch anything, but you are sleeping in the beds there. The house looks just as it would have at the turn of the century and it exudes elegance. Previous owners and the current owners have tried and succeeded in preserving the look from when it was built. The room we stayed in shared a bathroom with two other rooms, but was clean and had the original shower and tub, which are still in working condition. Breakfast was delicious as well, and the free tour after gave us a better understanding of the history of the house and it previous owners. There is no question why this is a historic landmark, and if you ever get the chance to stay in this bed and breakfast you should. Especially considering the price was $50 less than chain hotels nearby.
